Beheading, and France calls for ‘global strategy’ to deal with the Islamic State

The President of France wants a global strategy to deal with the threat from Islamic State terrorists:

U.S. intelligence officials on Wednesday confirmed the authenticity of a grisly video showing the beheading of American freelance journalist James Foley by the Islamic State militant group.

The Sunni extremist group had released the Internet video Tuesday, claiming it had killed Foley in retaliation for U.S. airstrikes targeting the group’s fighters in northern Iraq. It also showed a second hostage American journalist, Steven Joel Sotloff, and included militants’ threats to kill him.

U.S. intelligence experts “have reached the judgment that this video is authentic,” National Security Council spokeswoman Caitlin Hayden said.

Foley disappeared November 22, 2012, after being abducted in Syria by unidentified gunmen. French President Francois Hollande has called for an international conference to discuss the militant group Islamic State that has seized territory in Iraq and Syria.

Hollande told the Le Monde newspaper Wednesday there needs to be a “global strategy” to address the group he called well-structured, well-financed and armed with sophisticated weapons.

The threat posed by the Islamic extremists to the international community is “the most serious since 2001,” Hollande said, explaining why France would arrange a conference focused on security in Iraq and the fight against Islamic State.

The French president did not say when the meeting would take place or who would be invited.

“We can no longer keep to the traditional debate of intervention or non-intervention,” Hollande said, according to Reuters news agency.

The savagery of the beheading and other atrocities by the Islamic State is leading many to wish to take stronger steps against it. The USA President has also objected to it and to the Islamic State.

But by ‘global strategy’ against the Islamic State, it would appear that the French President means to include those other than those in NATO (like most of Europe, the USA, and Canada). To me, it appears that a ‘global strategy’ would be expected to include the Arabs and others in some of the other predominantly Islamic lands. Actually, after I wrote that, President Hollande to confirm it:

France said on Wednesday it wanted the permanent members of the U.N. Security Council and regional countries, including Arab states and Iran, to coordinate action against the militant group Islamic State, the insurgents who control parts of Iraq and Syria.

“In our minds and we hope that it will be possible … we want not only all the regional countries, including Arab states and Iran, but the five members of the Security Council, also to join this action,” Foreign Minister Faurent Fabius told lawmakers.

Some type of cooperation between Europe (King of the North) and the Arabs (King of the South) will take place (cf. Daniel 9:27; Psalm 83:3-8) and President Hollande is calling for some cooperation now.

The time will come when there will be a type of caliphate confederation that will encompass many nations in the Middle East and North Africa (Daniel 11:40-43; Ezekiel 30:2-8). There will be some type of Western cooperation as it will likely be believed that such a confederation will have leaders NOT be considered to be as radical and murderous as the Islamic State now is.

Actually, I suspect that when the final King of the South begins to rise up, he and his supporters will indicate that such a confederation/caliphate is precisely what is needed to keep the more radical terrorists under control. And while I do believe that such a confederation will take militaristic as well as terroristic actions against the USA and UK (cf. Psalm 83:3-8) , it is likely that politicians in both countries will endorse various aspects of such a confederation.

As I have written before, one of the reasons that a “King of the South confederation” will form is because some national leaders will consider that they are facing a worse threat by NOT agreeing to a confederation. Steps for fulfilling the biblical prophecies related to the formation of that confederation are taking place.
