Israel concered USA reportedly cutting funding to Egypt

Israel apparently would like the USA to supporting Egypt’s military-backed government more than it may have decided to:

JERUSALEM — Officials and experts in Israel responded on Wednesday with a mixture of disappointment and alarm to the news that the United States planned to reduce its military aid to Egypt in response to this summer’s brutal crackdown on the Muslim Brotherhood and the continuing violence it has spawned.

Israel views the aid as part and parcel of its 1979 peace treaty with Egypt, and essential to the maintenance of stability in the region.

Israel has been involved in the Obama administration’s discussions on the cuts. Israeli officials refused to comment publicly on the matter on Wednesday, in part because there had been no official announcement yet from Washington.

But one Israeli official, speaking on the condition of anonymity because of the delicate diplomacy involved, warned that the implications of punitive cuts in Egypt’s aid could go far beyond the issue of Israeli-Egyptian relations. Although Egypt’s military government has driven the Muslim Brotherhood underground, the situation there is far from settled.

The biblical reality is that situation in the Middle East and North Africa must change. It is tense and battle lines are being drawn. Now, I am not saying that what will replace the interim government in Egypt will be better for the West than the current one. But what I am saying is that neither the interim government of Egypt will continue as they have been.

Now, earlier, Saudi Arabia basically said it would give Egypt more money than the US aid, so that should seem to make up for the loss. However, as tourism continues to suffer in Egypt, its overall economy is not doing well and it probably feels it needs even more aid than Saudi Arabia, the USA, and others have given it.

The Muslim Brotherhood itself is a Sunni Muslim group. Most Arabs, including those in Egypt, are Sunni Muslims (countries such as Iran and Iraq are mainly Shi’ite Muslims; Syria has a Shi’ite Muslim leader, its President Assad, though the majority of Syrians are Sunnis).

The Muslim Brotherhood apparently wants as its top priority a pan-national Islamic caliphate ruled by an Islamic leader known as an Imam or Caliph. Many Muslims long for the rising up of a leader called the 12th Imam, often referred to as the Imam Mahdi. It will not end up with Spain if I understand certain aspects of Bible prophecy correctly, but the confederation of the final King of the South may go from around Western Sahara and/or Mauritania to Oman (with possible involvement and/or coordination with Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan and/or Indonesia).

Notice a translation of what some, who have been part of it, write that the Muslim Brotherhood wants:

…the Islamic Ummah [nation] can regain its power and be liberated and assume its rightful position which was intended by Allah, as the most exalted nation among men, as the leaders of humanity…

He [Hassan al-Banna] felt the grave danger overshadowing the Muslims and the urgent need and obligation which Islam places on every Muslim, man and woman, to act in order to restore the Islamic Caliphate and to reestablish the Islamic State on strong foundations and to liberate the Muslims and defend them from any attack, and to spread the Da’wa (Islamic missionary activity) of Islam in the world and to establish this great religion, which Allah wanted for his servants…

Some think that Shahada (Martyrdom) causes loss and damages the [Muslim Brotherhood] Society, since it has lost influential people in action and Jihad. To bring enough Arab nations together, I have felt that some type of “strongman” needed to rise up. One who Arabs would tend to respect–who might use or not use the title Imam Mahdi.

Despite being made illegal by an Egyptian court, the goal of the Muslim Brotherhood, which is a confederation of states in North Africa and the Middle East, will come to pass (Daniel 11:40-43; Ezekiel 30:1-9).

USA funding, or lack thereof, will likely affect the balance of power in Egypt.
