Obama: ‘You Can Call this Class Warfare’
Caught some of US President Obama’s re-election campaign speech last night, which officially was called the State of the Union address. Here are a few quotes of what he said:
The state of our union is getting stronger, and we’ve come too far to turn back now… I intend to fight obstruction with action, and I will oppose any effort to return to the very same policies that brought on this economic crisis in the first place.
No, we will not go back to an economy weakened by outsourcing, bad debt, and phony financial profits…From now on, every multinational company should have to pay a basic minimum tax…
And I will not go back to the days when Wall Street was allowed to play by its own set of rules…So if you are a big bank or financial institution, you’re no longer allowed to make risky bets with your customers’ deposits. You’re required to write out a living will that details exactly how you’ll pay the bills if you fail, because the rest of us are not bailing you out ever again…We’ll also establish a Financial Crimes Unit of highly trained investigators to crack down on large-scale fraud and protect people’s investments…
Do we want to keep these tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans?…
Now, you can call this class warfare all you want.(Complete transcript is available at http://www.cnn.com/2012/01/24/politics/sotu-transcript/index.html)
Apparently part of the message of the Occupy Movement seems to resonate also from the US President. Now, I disagree that the state of the union of the USA is getting stronger. Promotion of class warfare reduces unity. Also, the increased USA debt, which has raised faster under USA President Barack Obama than any time in the history of the USA is a significant weakening factor, as is the continued decline in the acceptance of biblically-based morality in the USA–several specific anti-biblical policies of which have been implemented/encouraged by the Obama Administration.
While Barack Obama seems to have his increased policed state powers targeted towards private financial companies and individuals who are successful and/or who work internationally, the reality is the the US government keeps playing what amounts to a series of shell games and ponzi schemes when it comes to Social Security, the value of the US dollar, and the national debt. Private individuals would face jail time if they engaged in many of the accounting tricks that the federal government and Federal Reserve (which, while technically not part of the government, acts in a governmental way with governmental support) have. Perhaps if the federal government of the USA will come clean and get its financial house in order it will be in a better position to see how to serve the citizens that try to produce wealth as opposed to try to figure out how to regulate them into frustrating oblivion.
As I have mentioned before, while I do not agree with all the political shenanigans involving banks and banking bailouts, I have believed that the main point of the Occupy protesters is class warfare. Many of the protesters apparently believe that they are entitled to assets that other people have accumulated. US President Barack Obama, in my view, has repeatedly encouraged class warfare through his rhetoric–and did so again last night. And I believe that this is part of his re-election strategy.
Presuming he is re-elected, there remains a good chance that Barack Obama will see protests turning increasingly violent in the future. In my view, while there are appropriate biblical provisions for debt relief (Deuteronomy 15:1-2), gleaning (Leviticus 19:10), helping the poor (1 Timothy 5:3-7; Deuteronomy 26:12-15, see also Is Third Tithe Still Valid Today?), and certain land distribution issues (Leviticus 25:8-17), what many of the Occupy protesters, as well as the US President, seem to want is unbiblical (cf Exodus 20:17;; 23:2-3; Acts 5:4). The reality is that producing more goods and services, from a carnal perspective, is economically what the USA needs. Raising taxes and adding more regulators, generally speaking, does not accompish that.
Covetousness is becoming the political rule of the day. A nation that used to claim to have a Judea-Christian heritage should not overlook the Bible, as politicians should not bother one class of people because others want them to:
5 Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. (Hebrews 13:5)
2 You shall not follow a crowd to do evil; nor shall you testify in a dispute so as to turn aside after many to pervert justice. 3 You shall not show partiality to a poor man in his dispute. (Exodus 23:2-3)
The Bible also warns:
1 But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: 2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, 4 traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away! 6 For of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts, 7 always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. (2 Timothy 3:1-8)
8 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be earthquakes in various places, and there will be famines and troubles. These are the beginnings of sorrows. (Mark 13:8)
We are living in the last days. The London riots and the flash mobs in the USA this past summer also brought these verses to mind. The sorrows and troubles are just beginning (Matthew 24:5-8) and will get much worse (Matthew 24:21-22).
I believe that class warfare and other protests will help weaken the USA and other Anglo-nations and may also be a factor in them being vulnerable to real warfare: invasion by the Beast. (I also suspect that protests and civil unrest in Europe will be factors in the actual rise the Beast, as he will be a militaristic leader cf. Revelation 13:4.)
As Jesus said:
37 And what I say to you, I say to all: Watch! (Mark 13:36-37)
