Pope Francis’ ‘solution’ to Syrian crisis will not work
Pope Francis has proposed his response to the use of chemical weapons in Syria:
There are so many conflicts in this world which cause me great suffering and worry, but in these days my heart is deeply wounded in particular by what is happening in Syria and anguished by the dramatic developments which are looming…
With utmost firmness I condemn the use of chemical weapons: I tell you that those terrible images from recent days are burned into my mind and heart. There is a judgment of God and of history upon our actions which are inescapable! Never has the use of violence brought peace in its wake. War begets war, violence begets violence…
What can we do to make peace in the world? As Pope John said, it pertains to each individual to establish new relationships in human society under the mastery and guidance of justice and love (cf. John XXIII, Pacem in Terris, [11 April 1963]: AAS 55, [1963], 301-302).
All men and women of good will are bound by the task of pursuing peace. I make a forceful and urgent call to the entire Catholic Church, and also to every Christian of other confessions, as well as to followers of every religion and to those brothers and sisters who do not believe: peace is a good which overcomes every barrier, because it belongs to all of humanity!…
To this end, brothers and sisters, I have decided to proclaim for the whole Church on 7 September next, the vigil of the birth of Mary, Queen of Peace, a day of fasting and prayer for peace in Syria, the Middle East, and throughout the world, and I also invite each person, including our fellow Christians, followers of other religions and all men of good will, to participate, in whatever way they can, in this initiative.
On 7 September, in Saint Peter’s Square, here, from 19:00 until 24:00, we will gather in prayer and in a spirit of penance, invoking God’s great gift of peace upon the beloved nation of Syria and upon each situation of conflict and violence around the world. Humanity needs to see these gestures of peace and to hear words of hope and peace! I ask all the local churches, in addition to fasting, that they gather to pray for this intention.
Let us ask Mary to help us to respond to violence, to conflict and to war, with the power of dialogue, reconciliation and love. She is our mother: may She help us to find peace; all of us are Her children! Help us, Mary, to overcome this most difficult moment and to dedicate ourselves each day to building in every situation an authentic culture of encounter and peace. Mary, Queen of Peace, pray for us! (Francis, Pope. September 1, 2013, as reported 09/03/13 by The Fatima Center)
While Pope Francis is correct that, to a degree, “War begets war, violence begets violence,” he does not know the way to peace. Celebrating the alleged birthday of Mary with fasting is not going to bring peace (cf. Romans 3:17). Pope Francis, while trying to appear to be “like a lamb and spoke like a dragon” (Revelation 13:11). Some type of war breaking out within a week or so of Mary’s birthday is more likely than peace.
Here are a few comments from my book, The Last Pope:
The final Antichrist would also appear to be the one warned about as the antipope in various Catholic and Orthodox writings. Also, notice the following:
Priest Herman Kramer (20th century): This false prophet possibly…usurps the papal supremacy…His assumed spiritual authority and supremacy over the Church would make him resemble the Bishop of Rome…He would be Pontifex Maximus, a title of pagan emperors, having spiritual and temporal authority. Assuming authority without having it makes him the False Prophet…Though he poses as a lamb, his doctrines betray him…His principles and dogmas to be accepted…it will comprise emperor-worship…with the persecution of true believers.
Priest A. Maas (20th century): Nearly all commentators find Antichrist mentioned in the Apocalypse… many scholars identify Antichrist with the beast which had “two horns, like a lamb” and spoke “as a dragon”… the Abbot really believes that Antichrist will overthrow the Pope and usurp his See…
Apparitions Claiming to Be Mary May Be Involved in the End
Although many of the Catholic prophecies show that their Great Monarch will spread a version of “Catholicism” all over the world and a pope will do miracles, it perhaps should be mentioned that others indicate that some type of Marian image/apparition will be involved in insuring his success over non-Catholics:
R. Gerald Culleton (20th century): During the reign of the Great Monarch and the Angelic Pastor the Catholic Church will spread throughout the world, conversions will be innumerable…The Blessed Virgin will be the chief one in gaining victory over all heresy and schism because of her power over the demons in the last ages of the world will be especially great. This will be recognized by her enthronement as “Mistress and Queen of Men’s Hearts.”
St. Louis-Marie Grignion De Montfort (18th century): The power of Mary over all the devils will be particularly outstanding in the last period of time. She will extend the Kingdom of Christ over the idolaters and Moslems, and there will come glorious era when Mary is the Ruler and Queen of Hearts.
St. Louis De Montfort (died 1720): The training and education of the great saints, who will appear towards the end of the world, is reserved for the Mother of God…These great saints, full of grace and zeal, will be chosen in order to oppose the enemies of God who will appear everywhere. By their word and example these saints will bring the whole world to a true veneration of Mary.
Notice that this alleged “Mary” also has the power over the demons. As the Bible never indicates that the biblical Mary has this power, this is apparently a reference to a demonic manifestation/apparition claiming to be Mary. And notice that many are working for this apparition to put down those who oppose the extreme veneration of Mary.
Here is some of what the Roman Catholic academic Jean Guitton concluded in 1973 about what some of the apparitions were teaching:
One of the themes of Grignon de Monfort is that devotion to Mary would grow toward the end of time, that the progress of this cult would be a sign of the end times.
Also notice the following from Pope John Paul II:
Christ will be victorious by means of Her, because He wishes that the victories of the Church in the contemporary world and in the future will be united to Her.
The idea that “Mary” will be part of the end times is clearly within Roman Catholic literature.
This world needs the return of Jesus Christ (Luke 1:68-79) and the establishment of the Kingdom of God, not turning towards a non-biblical version of ‘Mary,’ as Pope Francis is advocating.
Pope Francis frequently speaks of Mary, has dedicated his pontificate to his version of Mary, and recently told people in Brazil to turn to ‘Mary’ (see Massive crowds meet Pope Francis at Marion shrine in Brazil and he speaks of ‘Mary’).
Turning people towards Mary, appealing to ecumenical dialogue, appearing as a popular ‘lamb’ to many, frequently taking economic positions (cf. Revelation 13:16-17), and perhaps getting demonic support to function as he does at his age with a missing lung (cf. Revelation 16:13-14), could be signs of the final Antichrist.
While it is still too early to tell for sure if Pope Francis is this individual, many of the items I have discussed in various posts point to that as a possibility (and are consistent with the many of the details I wrote about in my book The Last Pope: Do Biblical and Catholic Prophecies Point to Pope Francis?). And if he is not, he certainly is setting the stage for the one who will be. His proposed ‘solution’ to the crisis in Syria involving fasting for ‘Mary’ will not work.

Could Pope Francis be the Last Pope and Antichrist? According to some interpretations of the prophecies of the popes by the Catholic saint and Bishop Malachy, Pope Francis I is in the position of “Peter the Roman,” the pontiff who reigns during tribulations until around the time of the destruction of Rome. Do biblical prophecies warn of someone that sounds like Peter the Roman? Could Francis I be the heretical antipope of Catholic private prophecies and the final Antichrist of Bible prophecy?
