Bible does not define our laws

EDITOR: I support the First Amendment rights of same-sex marriage opponents to practice their faith.

But the greatest freedom of religion is freedom from being forced to follow a particular brand of religion.

As to our forefathers, I am not sure I can say what they would have wanted.

But I can tell you I have carefully looked over the Constitution and find no place where this is a “Christian” or “Bible”-based nation. Being the thorough men they were, you would think they would have put it in the Constitution.

In fact, ours was founded as the first nation without a state religion.

Practice your religion in your church, in your life and in your home; respect other beliefs. But please do not expect the Constitution to conform to your beliefs. The Constitution and 14th Amendment are the law of the land; the Bible is the law of your religion.

It is true that the Bible does not define the laws of the USA.  However, while the founders of the USA did not want a state religion  imposed on the citizenry, most of them agreed on various moral teachings that the Bible endorsed.

This is one reason why, for example, none of the colonies allowed homosexual marriage and pretty much all of them made practicing aspects of homosexuality a crime.  None of the colonies allowed abortion either.

Now, this has changed.  The US Supreme Court has ‘legalized’ various immoral practices (pornography is another example).

So, is everything fine in the USA for it defining laws that oppose the laws of the Bible?

No, of course not.  The USA went from the world’s largest creditor nation to the most indebted nation in the history of humanity from when its states began to ‘legalize’ abortion until present (watch also Abortion, the Bible, and US Debt).  This also coincided with the increased legal acceptance of pornography.

Is the matter of homosexual marriage simply a personal right of freedom that will not affect the USA so that all the religious should condone this?

Well, the Bible says no:

18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19 because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, 21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man — and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.

24 Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, 25 who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

26 For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. 27 Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.

28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, 30 backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; 32 who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them. (Romans 1:18-32)

Some will act like going against the Bible is fine for the USA.  But the Bible has warnings for those that do (Romans 1:18-32; Habakkuk 2:6-8).

There are costs for going against the Bible, and destruction will come to the USA as it goes more and more against the laws of the Bible.

Perhaps I should add that I think I have seen nearly one article per day, since the recent Supreme Court decision on homosexual marriage, from writers who try to claim that the Bible either does not condemn homosexuality or does not define marriage as being between one man and one woman.

Typically, they will mention that various ones practiced polygamy or something else.  However, the Bible warned the kings not to multiply wives (Deuteronomy 17:14-17) and clearly condemned homosexuality as an abomination (Leviticus 18:22; 20:13).  Also, they seem to overlook that when Jesus came, He made it clear what a biblical marriage would be.  Notice what He said when asked about divorce:

3 The Pharisees also came to Him, testing Him, and saying to Him, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for just any reason?”

4 And He answered and said to them, “Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female,’  5 and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’?  6 So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.”

7 They said to Him, “Why then did Moses command to give a certificate of divorce, and to put her away?”

8 He said to them, “Moses, because of the hardness of your hearts, permitted you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so.  9 And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery; and whoever marries her who is divorced commits adultery.” (Matthew 19:3-9)

Some can act like attempting to redefine marriage to between two of the same sex will not contribute to the destruction of the USA, but they are wrong (watch also What Does the Bible Really Teach about Homosexuality?).

As regular readers of this page are aware, I have repeatedly warned about a coming ‘famine of the word’ (cf. Amos 8:11-12).  I have already experienced some of it myself (watch Famine of the Word?).  But notice something that is happening in the State of Kentucky:

The state of Kentucky has begun imposing a religious test on volunteer pastor counselors in its youth division, insisting that they refrain from calling homosexuality “sinful” and dismissing those who cannot bend their religious faith to accommodate the state requirements.

The policy was uncovered by Liberty Counsel, which has sent a letter to Bob Hayter, commissioner of the Kentucky Department of Juvenile Justice, demanding that the state religious test be dropped and that a dismissed counselor be reinstated.

“Liberty Counsel writes regarding the blatantly unconstitutional revocation of volunteer prison minister status of ordained Christian minister David Wells, who has provided voluntary spiritual counseling and mentorship to juvenile inmates under the control of the Department of Juvenile Justice. … This revocation was issued by Warren County Regional Juvenile Detention Center on the basis of the April 4, 2014, DJJ Policy 912, which mandates full DJJ support of homosexuality and transvestism.

“With no evidence of any violation of DJJ policy on Mr. Wells’ part, his volunteer status was revoked by the Warren RJDC superintendent because he could not sign a state-mandated statement that homosexuality was not ‘sinful,’ among other things,” the letter said.

The policy states that DJJ staff, volunteers and others “shall not imply or tell LGBTQI juveniles that they are abnormal, deviant, sinful or that they can or should change their sexual orientation or gender identity.” http://www.wnd.com/2015/07/state-forbids-pastors-calling-homosexuality-sinful/#gcKUxJlD8PoQ6O8q.99

The Bible teaches:

1 Cry aloud, spare not;
Lift up your voice like a trumpet;
Tell My people their transgression,
And the house of Jacob their sins.  (Isaiah 58:1)

Homosexuality is sinful.  Many in the government are opposed to Isaiah 58:1.

The Bible warns of destruction for those who go for ‘strange flesh’ (Jude 7) as well as those who merely approve it (Romans 1:18-32).  Going against the Bible will lead to the total destruction of the USA (Daniel 11:39; Habakkuk 2:6-8).
