BBC: Questionable data on ‘greenhouse’ gas levels

The BBC reported the following:

‘Dodgy’ greenhouse gas data threatens Paris accord

Air monitors in Switzerland have detected large quantities of one gas coming from a location in Italy.

However, the Italian submission to the UN records just a tiny amount of the substance being emitted.

Levels of some emissions from India and China are so uncertain that experts say their records are plus or minus 100%.

These flaws posed a bigger threat to the Paris climate agreement than US President Donald Trump’s intention to withdraw, researchers told BBC Radio 4’s Counting Carbon programme. …

“Our estimate for this location in Italy is about 60-80 tonnes of this substance being emitted every year. Then we can compare this with the Italian emission inventory, and that is quite interesting because the official inventory says below 10 tonnes or in the region of two to three tonnes,” said Dr Stefan Reimann, from the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology.

“They actually say it is happening, but they don’t think it is happening as much as we see.

“Just to put it into perspective, this greenhouse gas is thousands of times stronger than CO2. …

Another rare warming gas, carbon tetrachloride, once popular as a refrigerant and a solvent but very damaging to the ozone layer, has been banned in Europe since 2002.

But Dr Reimann told Counting Carbon: “We still see 10,000-20,000 tonnes coming out of China every year.”

“That is something that shouldn’t be there.

“There is actually no Chinese inventory for these gases, as they are banned and industry shouldn’t be releasing them anymore.” …

For a country such as India, home to 15% of the world’s livestock, methane is a very important gas in their inventory – but the amount produced is subject to a high degree of uncertainty. …

“What they note is that methane emissions are about 50% uncertain for categories like ruminants, so what this means is that the emissions they submit could be plus or minus 50% of what’s been submitted,” said Dr Anita Ganesan, from the University of Bristol, who has overseen air monitoring research in the country.

“For nitrous oxide, that’s 100%.”

There are similar uncertainties with methane emissions in Russia, of between 30-40%, according to scientists who work there.

“What we’re worried about is what the planet experiences, never mind what the statistics are,” said Prof Euan Nisbet, from Royal Holloway, University of London.

“In the air, we see methane going up. The warming impact from that methane is enough to derail Paris.” http://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-40669449

So, in Italy, China, Russia, and India, there is believed to be an under-reporting of ‘greenhouse’ gas emissions. Enough so, that the Paris Accords essentially will be of little, if any, value.

The United Nations, Vatican, and various others tend to believe that temperature records are proof of carbon-burning caused ‘climate change,’ though CO2 is not the only chemical factor. Many think that those who disbelieve the climate change message are intentionally ignorant as there are facts behind parts of some of their claims. Yet, those warners of climate change do not seem to be able to conceive of the idea that weather problems could be a curse from God for things like the LGBTQ agenda, pornography, and other aspects of immorality (for some details as to why that can be relevant, check out the article Weather Blessings and Sorrows).

Various others are skeptical of the ‘climate change’ agenda as they have seen some statistics and facts about this falsified–and today’s report from the BBC will give them further reasons to maintain their skepticism. Many believe/suspect that wealth redistribution and other social goals are what is really behind this– they can point to Pope Francis’ Laudato Si and the United Nations’ ‘New Universal Agenda’ as proof of this, as they include aspects of wealth distribution and social policy not directly related to environmental issues.

That being said, my personal observations are the glaciers are melting at a historically alarming rate as are parts of Antarctica. My wife and I personally observed a massive glacier in Alaska, for example, in 1982 that was only a fraction of itself in 1999. We have also witnessed what appears to be rising sea levels in Venice, Italy, based upon visits there in the 20th and 21st centuries. While we did not personally see it, in 2017, it has been reported “An iceberg the size of Delaware has broken off from Antarctica .” There are changes occurring.

Will the Paris Accords fix the climate?

No. Not according to the Bible. The Bible says when Jesus returns, He will destroy those that destroy the Earth:

18 The nations were angry, and Your wrath has come,
And the time of the dead, that they should be judged,
And that You should reward Your servants the prophets and the saints,
And those who fear Your name, small and great,
And should destroy those who destroy the earth. (Revelation 11:18)

Revelation 11:8 is proof that humans are not about to solve the climate problems facing the world. It will get worse.

Irrespective of how one views the climate, the Bible shows that sin causes problems and facts demonstrate that we have had severe weather.

Consider the following

7 “I also withheld rain from you,When there were still three months to the harvest.I made it rain on one city, I withheld rain from another city.One part was rained upon, And where it did not rain the part withered.

9 “I blasted you with blight and mildew. When your gardens increased, Your vineyards, Your fig trees, And your olive trees, The locust devoured them; Yet you have not returned to Me,”Says the Lord.

11 “I overthrew some of you,As God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah,And you were like a firebrand plucked from the burning; Yet you have not returned to Me,”Says the Lord. (Amos 4:7, 9, 11)

Thus, both Amos and Jeremiah tied weather issues in with later being over thrown like Sodom and Gomorrah–and remember the Bible says that Sodom and Gomorrah were overthrown as examples for those who would go after “strange flesh” (2 Peter 2:6; see also The Bible Condemns Homosexuality).

What about ‘global warming’? Well, that will get worse than most expect:

8 Then the fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun, and power was given to him to scorch men with fire. 9 And men were scorched with great heat, and they blasphemed the name of God who has power over these plagues; and they did not repent and give Him glory. (Revelation 16:8-9)

Although, the above prophecy is for several years into the future, there are biblical reasons to believe that this will happen in the 21st century (see Does God Have a 6,000 Year Plan? What Year Does the 6,000 Years End? and When Will the Great Tribulation Begin?).

Most will ignore weather changes and simply believe that weather changes all the time and the changes do not have to do with God or disobeying His laws. However, weather-problems are one tool that God uses to urge people to repent (cf. Haggai 2:17; Amos 4:7-12). But most will not. Nor will most Christians as they should (cf. Revelation 3:14-18; see also The Laodicean Church Era).

The Bible shows:

30 God … commands all men everywhere to repent (Acts 17:30)

And, the Bible shows that weird, severe, and odd weather patterns are part of the warning messages that God gives.
