Reuters: Obama Administration allowed Iran to cheat in order to get funds

There have been various posts here stating that the nuclear deal that the USA helped negotiate with Iran was full of problems. Here is something now from Reuters:

The United States and its negotiating partners agreed “in secret” to allow Iran to evade some restrictions in last year’s landmark nuclear agreement in order to meet the deadline for it to start getting relief from economic sanctions, according to a report reviewed by Reuters.

The report is to be published on Thursday by the Washington-based Institute for Science and International Security, said the think tank’s president David Albright, a former U.N. weapons inspector and co-author of the report. It is based on information provided by several officials of governments involved in the negotiations, who Albright declined to identify.

Reuters could not independently verify the report’s assertions.

“The exemptions or loopholes are happening in secret, and it appears that they favor Iran,” Albright said.

Among the exemptions were two that allowed Iran to exceed the deal’s limits on how much low-enriched uranium (LEU) it can keep in its nuclear facilities, the report said. LEU can be purified into highly enriched, weapons-grade uranium.

The exemptions, the report said, were approved by the joint commission the deal created to oversee implementation of the accord. The commission is comprised of the United States and its negotiating partners — called the P5+1 — and Iran.

One senior “knowledgeable” official was cited by the report as saying that if the joint commission had not acted to create these exemptions, some of Iran’s nuclear facilities would not have been in compliance with the deal by Jan. 16, the deadline for the beginning of the lifting of sanctions. http://www.reuters.com/article/us-iran-nuclear-exemptions-exclusive-idUSKCN1173LA

A new report by a Washington, D.C. think tank allegedly reveals the U.S. secretly agreed Iran did not have to comply with restrictions under the nuclear deal, to get Iran sanctions relief funding as soon as possible.

Iran was supposed to turn over its entire stockpile of low-enriched uranium to Russia in December 2015. U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry at the time said it was “one of the most significant steps Iran has taken toward fulfilling its commitment.” President Barack Obama echoed these sentiments and reiterated that “with the unprecedented monitoring and access this deal puts in place, if Iran tries, we will know and sanctions will snap back into place.”

Another loophole allegedly allows Iran to continue operating 19 different radiation containment chambers that are larger than allowed under the nuclear deal. The report notes, “misused for secret, mostly small-scale plutonium separation efforts.” Plutonium is a key material in nuclear weapons manufacture.

Experts cautioned to Reuters that if the secret loopholes obfuscate the true amount of low-enriched uranium Iran possesses, it would be impossible to know how much Uranium the group could yield. …

The White House alleges it frequently and clearly informed Congress of the secret exemptions. Democratic New Jersey Sen. It seems, to me at least, that the Obama Administration saw that Iran was cheating, and that it tried to somehow paper over it so if this came out, Iran would appear to have complied with international demands.

As far as Iran itself goes, it would like to knock out the USA whenever it can and it believes that mystical powers will one day allow it to do that (see also the article Iran in Prophecy).

We in the Continuing Church of God do not believe that Iran is about to align with Russia to fulfill Ezekiel 38 (two related videos are available titled Ezekiel 38: For Russia, Ukraine, & Iran Now? and Russia, Iran, Syria, & the Bible (Code).).

We also do not believe that Iran will be the final King of the South of Bible prophecy (cf. Daniel 11:40-43).

Because of these biblically-backed positions, I have tended to believe that Iran may somehow get “neutralized” before the final King of the South rises up.

Furthermore, it may be that by Iran provoking some type of conflict with Israel (through an attack or through simply possessing nuclear bombs) could result in Israel hitting Iran hard enough militarily to greatly reduce Iran’s influence in the Islamic world. Since no later than May of 2010, I have been writing that since Iran may be neutralized (see Iran Slams Russia).

Iran could be neutralized because of internal unrest or perhaps a region conflict involving Israel.

As far as the nuclear deal goes, I believe that the Obama Administration has strengthen Iran and its resolve to someday rule at least the Islamic part of the world. It wants that as well as total world domination–which it will not get (see Iran in Prophecy).

Because of exemptions and/or cheating, expect Iran to overplay its hand and believe it is more powerful than it really is. This will not lead to peace.

Israel, and perhaps even the USA, apparently will be negatively affected by Iran in the future. Yet I should also point out that the Bible shows that Iran will not end up faring well.

Notice the following prophecy which indicates at least part of Iran’s destruction before the latter days:

34 The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet against Elam, in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, saying, 35 “Thus says the Lord of hosts:

‘Behold, I will break the bow of Elam,
The foremost of their might.
36 Against Elam I will bring the four winds
From the four quarters of heaven,
And scatter them toward all those winds;
There shall be no nations where the outcasts of Elam will not go.
37 For I will cause Elam to be dismayed before their enemies
And before those who seek their life.
I will bring disaster upon them,
My fierce anger,’ says the Lord;
‘And I will send the sword after them
Until I have consumed them.
38 I will set My throne in Elam,
And will destroy from there the king and the princes,’ says the Lord. (Jeremiah 49:34-38)

So, what’s next for Iran?

It will complain and try to work around the nuclear agreement until it violates it so much that the USA will decide it has to take further steps (beyond those it has recently taken).

Iran will attempt to improve aspects of its economy and its military so that it can try to persuade the Islamic world to follow it.

The Bible shows that it is probable that God will allow Iran to strike the nation of Israel:

1 The burden against the Valley of Vision.

What ails you now, that you have all gone up to the housetops, 2 You who are full of noise, A tumultuous city, a joyous city? Your slain men are not slain with the sword, Nor dead in battle. 3 All your rulers have fled together; They are captured by the archers. 5 For it is a day of trouble and treading down and perplexity By the Lord God of hosts In the Valley of Vision — Breaking down the walls And of crying to the mountain. 6 Elam bore the quiver With chariots of men and horsemen, And Kir uncovered the shield. 7 It shall come to pass that your choicest valleys Shall be full of chariots,And the horsemen shall set themselves in array at the gate.

8 He removed the protection of Judah. You looked in that day to the armor of the House of the Forest; 9 You also saw the damage to the city of David, That it was great; And you gathered together the waters of the lower pool. 10 You numbered the houses of Jerusalem, And the houses you broke down To fortify the wall. 11 You also made a reservoir between the two walls For the water of the old pool. But you did not look to its Maker, Nor did you have respect for Him who fashioned it long ago.

14 Then it was revealed in my hearing by the Lord of hosts,”Surely for this iniquity there will be no atonement for you, Even to your death,” says the Lord God of hosts. (Isaiah 22:1-14 NKJV)

But although Jerusalem will see damage under the above, Iran will not do well and will not be the power that the Bible shows will lead the Islamic nations in the Middle East and North Africa. That power will be an Arabic power (cf. Ezekiel 30:2-8), referred to as the King of the South by the prophet Daniel (Daniel 11:40-43).

Many warned that the Obama Administration wanted a deal so bad with Iran that it would make a bad deal. The report from Reuters, if true, seems to be additional backing for those warnings.
