01/02/11 a.m. Here is the latest Living Church of God World Ahead Weekly Update from Dr. Winnail. In it, he mentions telecast responses, TWSPs, the Charlotte Weekend, a healing, LYC, a new teen weekly Bible study, Chilean Youth Camp, News & Prophecy, LU, world news items, and asks where is your heart.

Scientist Not Hired Because of Religious Beliefs? Dr. Martin Gaskell has claimed that religious discrimination prevented him from being hired for a university position in 2007 for which he was uniquely qualified. Gaskell was considered by the University of Kentucky search committee as the top candidate for a director of a new student observatory. Court records note that one university search committee member commented that Gaskell was “breathtakingly above the other applicants.” Court records further disclose the internal debate that university faculty members had about the potential impact of Dr. Gaskell’s Christian leanings and his belief that evolution is a theory with “significant scientific problems”—a decision-making discussion that was against university and federal hiring policy. Last month a U.S. district judge rejected the University of Kentucky’s motion and moved the case to trial, noting “There is no dispute that based on his application, Gaskell was a leading candidate for the position” (Associated Press, December 17, 2010). Jesus prophesied that at the end of the age, Christians would be persecuted for their beliefs (Matthew 24:9). However, the Bible also warns there will be serious consequences for those who “take away justice from the righteous man” (Isaiah 5:23).

Science, real science that is, always supports the Bible.

Commentary: Is religious syncretism a good thing?
By Roger Meyer (guest columnist) | Tuesday, December 28, 2010
Most people don't realize it, but their religion is a blend of paganism and Christianity. Is that a good thing? Does it make any difference to God that at least part of one's beliefs and practices came from a pagan religion? Read more

TWSPs in Nigeria

Lagos, Nigeria: On December 17 and 18, two Tomorrow’s World Special Presentations were held where the Lagos congregation meets for Sabbath services. The theme of the TWSPs was “Why Were You Created?” On December 17, Mr. Oladele Akin-Ogundeji made a presentation on “Why You Were Born” with 10 people in attendance, including three members of the Lagos congregation. A few hours after Sabbath services on December 18, 2010, Mr. Akin-Ogundeji made a second presentation on the topic “You Must be Re-Created”—11 people, including five brethren, were in attendance. We planned for a maximum number of seven visitors, and God answered our prayers! The primary method of publicity was a banner display in the locality.
The TWSPs were organized to educate the community where the Lagos congregation meets on the true Sabbath, and booklets were available on various topics: Satan’s Counterfeit Christianity, Your Ultimate Destiny and Christian Baptism. The audience was positive and enthusiastic about the truth they heard but were shocked regarding the false teachings that they have been fed. This shock was reflected in the many questions they asked on each day. They expressed their desire to learn more and requested subscriptions to the Tomorrow’s World magazine.

In light of the enthusiasm of the audience, the kind of questions they asked and the pervading spurious teachings in the community, the Lagos congregation plans to host a monthly video show of the Tomorrow’s World Telecast DVD on the last Sabbath day of each month beginning January 2011. Furthermore, the next TWSPs will be on “Why Are There So Many Churches?”

Commentary: Who lied to you?
By Lehman B. Lyons, Jr. | Saturday, December 25, 2010
When I was in grammar school, I shared a class with a young man who became known as "Stevie the Liar." If anyone told of an event that they had actually experienced, Stevie developed a more extravagant fabrication that overshadowed that occurrence. Stevie constantly shared "points of fact" that upon closer scrutiny proved to be more of his vivid imagination. In fact, Stevie's reputation was such that he was credited with the dispersing of any misinformation, no matter which of our classmates relayed the telling. Stevie was the teller of tales. Read more

Commentary: "Has science made God obsolete?"
By John Wheeler | Tuesday, December 21, 2010
We live in truly remarkable times - times which your Bible prophesied long ago. Two general trends the Bible mention define our age as they define no other: "Many shall run to and fro [many shall travel here and there as never before], and knowledge shall increase" (Daniel 12:4, NKJV). One meaning of the Hebrew word translated "and ... shall increase" (watirbeh) is "and ... shall multiply" - and as the years go by, we see human knowledge multiplying at a faster and faster rate! Here is one of the world news items:

Russia and China Growing Closer.  Late last month, China and Russia signed a new deal to cease trading with each other in U.S. dollars, and instead use their own currencies. The yuan has now begun trading against the ruble—a very important step. “Chinese experts said the move reflected closer relations between Beijing and Moscow and is not aimed at challenging the dollar, but to protect their domestic economies.” Speaking during the meeting, Chinese Premier Wen emphasized that “the partnership between Beijing and Moscow has ‘reached an unprecedented level’ and pledged the two countries will ‘never become each other’s enemy’” (China Daily, November 24, 2010). God warned that because of the sins of the Israelite-descended nations (like the U.S.), the pride of their power would be broken (Leviticus 26:19). The greenback has long been a source of pride for the U.S. In addition, God prophesied that a mighty end-time army from the “east” would threaten Jerusalem (Daniel 11:44-45; Revelation 9:13-21). Russian and Chinese ties could eventually fulfill those prophecies!

LCG also just announced the Head’s Up radio show I mentioned a few days ago:

The world is constantly changing! Unemployment, the economy, and threats of war, violence and terrorism fill news headlines daily! But what are the underlying causes of these events? Where are things in this world headed? Coming soon, an exciting podcast entitled "Heads Up" will explain what's behind today's world events! Listen to "Heads Up" online or download the program through the website or iTunes. Visit http://headsupshow.org for the latest podcast, insightful commentary, and more.

12/15/10 p.m. Today, a weekly news radio show called Head’s Up began.

The first guest being interviewed is the Presiding Evangelist of the Living Church of God, Dr. Roderick C. Meredith.

One of the topics mentioned was civil unrest in Europe.  Other subjects included the decline of the West and the rise of non-Western governments.

As far as the USA goes, he mentioned that he expects municipal and/or state governments to go bankrupt, civil and race riots likely to happen in the USA.  Dr. Meredith explained that the Bible teaches that God will establish a government on the earth and will send Jesus to stop humanity from destroying themselves (Matthew 24:21-22).   He also explained certain passages related to the Olivet prophecy in Matthew 24.

Those interested in seeing this themselves can go to http://www.headsupshow.org

Dr. Meredith has taken a variety of approaches to help fulfill the commission in Matthew:

14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.  (Matthew 24:14)

19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,  20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.  (Matthew 28:19-20)

Thus, this internet radio approach seems to be another way to reach people around the world.

12/15/10 p.m. Here is some of what Presiding Evangelist Roderick C. Meredith wrote in his latest co-worker which came out today:

Brethren and friends, prophetic events are truly speeding up! So you and I—and all to whom God gives understanding—need to act on the Truth and not be afraid of carnal men. We must not be like those spiritual cowards in Jesus’ time who—though they “believed” in Him—would not fully commit to following Him, “for they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God” (John 12:43). For 58 years, I have tried to proclaim faithfully the “whole counsel of God” (Acts 20:27) as did the Apostle Paul. We in this Work of God must fearlessly preach the whole Truth of the Bible. We must powerfully warn our peoples of what lies just ahead. We must do both God’s will and God’s Work!

With all our hearts, we in this Work of Tomorrow’s World are doing this! I am so thankful for you taking the initiative to join with us in doing this Work. During Jesus’ day, Matthew 9:35 says: “Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.” This was a great Work He was doing. He was truly touched and moved by what He saw and perceived among the thousands of people who came to Him. Matthew 9:36-38 observes: “But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd. Then He said to His disciples [which applies to all of us today!], ‘The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.’”

We in this Work are moved by what we see. Billions of people need to hear Christ’s life-saving Gospel. This is where you have a critical part, if you are willing. We all need to be praying earnestly to the “Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.” Huge doors are now opening to us. Just this month we started airing the Tomorrow’s World program on the Discovery Channel in the United States, reaching 99.5 million households. But the Discovery Channel airs worldwide, yet we are only on it in the United States. Your prayers could help this Work go through even bigger doors. The Discovery Channel has separate feeds going to 258 million households in Asia, 76 million in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and 37 million homes in Latin America. In all, the Discovery Channel reaches 470 million homes. Your sincere, fervent prayers could help this Work reach many of these homes totaling as many as 1.4 billion men, women and children!

Starting in less than three weeks, the Tomorrow’s World telecast will start airing on “God TV,” which reaches 175 million homes around the world, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Europe, Scandinavia, the Middle East, Africa, Pakistan, India, China and Australasia. This is another huge door, but we need your prayers for God to move people to watch the Tomorrow’s World telecast and respond! “God TV” reaches more than 500 million people around the world! This is big, and your prayers do help!

You can let others do the praying, instead of yourself, if you should choose. But I assure you, if you wholeheartedly back this Work of God, praying for more laborers and everything associated with this Work (this labor of love and this proclaiming of the Gospel of Jesus Christ), God will bless you!

12/12/10 a.m.Here is the latest Living Church of God World Ahead Weekly Update from Dr. Winnail. This update includes information on Dibar Apartian, telecast results,a healing, Little Rock Family Weekend, classes and registration for Living University, world news items, and God’s perspective on the trials that are part of human existence.

Here is that last item:

God’s Perspective on the Trials of Life: Sometimes, when we encounter trials and difficulties, we wonder what is happening and whether God has forsaken us. However in challenging times, we need to remember several fundamental scriptures that reveal God’s perspective on the trials that are part of human existence. Jesus told His disciples, “In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). The Bible plainly states that God has promised never to leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). The Apostle Paul reminds us that “all things work together for good to those who love God” (Romans 8:28), and that even in trials, God promises that He “will… make the way of escape” that will enable us to get through the difficulties (1 Corinthians 10:13). James offers another vital perspective—that trials are opportunities to exercise faith in God and His promises and to build patience—while we also learn to do our part to work through the challenges we face. Let’s remember these promises and Godly perspectives when we encounter the trials that come as part of human life.

Commentary: Deceptive seeds
By Mike Dickson (guest columnist) | Tuesday, December 07, 2010
Our local grocery store always seems to have in stock what appears to be healthy produce. However, how many of us really know where our produce comes from? These days, it is possible that the food you are eating may contain genetic derivatives from eight different genetically modified foods. Experts state that more than 70 percent of items on supermarket shelves contain genetically modified foods. Read more

To the above, I would add that I have long suspected that the increasing reliance on human engineered foods like GMOs will put the USA at major risk for famine and being affected by pestilences. The USA is putting not only its current health at risk, but its future at risk by this reliance on GMOs.

12/05/10 a.m.Here is the latest Living Church of God World Ahead Weekly Update from Dr. Winnail. In it, he mentions going on the Discovery Channel and WRBU, income up, Dibar Apartian, a healing the Charlotte & Kansas City Family Weekends, L4T winter camp cancellation, classes and registration for Living University, world news items, and the age of skeptics.

Here is the healing that was mentioned:

Healing

Elder Joseph Picker reports: I thought I would share a healing with you that took place at the Feast this year and continued on after returning home. We were able to take with us to the Feast this year a new attendee who has been deaf for approximately 20 years. She had learned to read lips and was eager to attend the Feast for her first time. She started to attend the Living Church of God in March of this year and many began praying for God to heal her so she could hear the sermons as it was handicapping her in so many ways.

Just before the Feast I had gone over how God heals us through faith when we ask for anointing. She then read the booklet on healing.

After arriving in Newport, Oregon, where we attended the Feast, she was having pain in her shoulder and so asked the anointing Elder on duty if she could have her shoulder anointed, as it was hard for her to hold her head up to see the speaker without difficulty and pain, that she needed to be able to see the speaker in order to read his lips. She was anointed for her shoulder and any other difficulties by Mr. Paul Shumway and Mr. David Wakefield.   During the sermon she said her ear started to pop and crackle. Then to her utter amazement and astonishment she could hear out of her right ear. Right after the sermon she came over to my wife and asked her to say something and talk to her. When she did she exclaimed she could hear every word she spoke. She said it was a little dull, but she could hear every word she said. Many people were moved by her healing and many had tears in their eyes.

After arriving home from the Feast she asked if I could specifically anoint her for her other ear and ask God to heal it also. I anointed her and about four days later she told me God had healed the other ear and that she could now hear out of both of her ears. She is so ecstatic and is now in the process of baptismal counseling.   She is so happy she can hear for the first time in more than 20 years.

So, the deaf hear (Luke 7:22) and the gospel is preached.

Here is a world news item:

Is the EU at Risk of Collapse? EU Council President Herman Van Rompuy recently warned that the “EU is in a survival crisis… the eurozone and the European Union itself are fighting for their life as a result of the ongoing sovereign debt shocks, most recently in Ireland and Portugal… if the eurozone does not survive, neither will the EU.” While Mr. Van Rompuy believes the EU will overcome the financial crisis, other economists are not so sure. Christoph Weil, a Frankfurt economist states, “In the short-term, no country will leave the euro. But in the long scenario, in 15 to 20 years’ time, maybe we will see another EU and another currency area. I think the ‘euro’ name will have to be changed” (EUObserver.com, November 16, 2011. Emphasis ours). Others “don’t think the current membership in the euro is written in stone” but could split up into “the core and the periphery” by “cutting off the gangrene-stricken western and southern fringes in order to keep the central part functioning” (The Times, November 21, 2010).   The threatening break-up of the 27-nation eurozone is sobering in light of Bible prophecies about an end-time Beast-like power comprised of 10 nations or regions that will arise in Europe just before Jesus Christ returns to establish the Kingdom of God (Daniel 2:41-43; Revelation 17:7-13). What we see developing in Europe appears to be part of a chain of events that God will use to fulfill His end-time prophecies. For more information on this vital topic, obtain a free copy of our booklet, The Beast of Revelation.

Here is a world news item:

Ireland is among the top third of European nations in per capita income. They have a debt ratio lower than that of France, Germany and the UK, but the Celtic Tiger sees major financial issues ahead. Ireland’s banking sector is now at a point where the government cannot bail it out. “‘Ireland is in the midst of a real estate bust that could trump even the ruinous downturns that transformed parts of southern California and Nevada into suburban ghost towns—with home-grown banks stoking it all. Now, those banks are trying to manage catastrophic losses… If the Irish banks go down, the Irish government also goes down,’” says economist Jacob Kirkegaard of the Peterson Institute for International Economics.” The European Central Bank could bail out Ireland; however, Ireland does not want this because of the austerity measures that would be enforced, likely ending its business-friendly environment and high standard of living (USNews.com, November 16, 2010). Ireland is an Israelite nation that is experiencing the “pride of its power” being broken (Leviticus 26:19). Because of its Israelite heritage, Ireland is also going to reap the “curses” of disobedience that God outlined in Deuteronomy 28 and Leviticus 26. As Europe buys the debt of nations like Greece, and likely Ireland, and possibly Portugal, Spain and Italy, more fiscal power will be centered in a federal Europe. All this bears watching in the light of Bible prophecies.

Here is one of the world news items:

Vatican Dismisses Israeli Land-Claim. Two weeks ago, the Vatican Synod of Bishops declared that the Israeli claim to the Holy Land and Jerusalem, as a God-given promise, was not biblically legitimate. Monsignor Bustros declared, “we Christians cannot speak of the ‘promised land’ as an exclusive right for a privileged Jewish people... There is no longer a chosen people.” The Anti-Defamation League immediately responded to the Monsignor’s comments as “the worst kind of anti-Judaism, bordering on anti-Semitism” (Jerusalem Post online, October 27, 2010). Although the current Israeli presence in the Holy Land is not the ultimate fulfillment of the Bible prophecies that the modern nation of Israel claims, the Bible clearly demonstrates a time will come when God will bring “all of Israel” to this promised land. However, “all of Israel” involves many more people than the Jewish people. Israel originally consisted of 12 tribes, and it is their descendants that will once again be returned to the Promised Land following the coming great tribulation (Ezekiel 34:11-13, Hosea 3:4-5, Zechariah 8:7-8). They will return from the ends of the earth, from their state of captivity, and return with joyful singing, never to hurt again (Isaiah 35:8-10). At that time, too, God will open up His truth to all nations of the earth, not just the Israelite-descended nations (Joel 2:28-29). For more information on the true identity of Israel, please call, write, or click for our free and eye-opening booklet The United States and Great Britain in Prophecy.

Commentary: Character and personality
By John Wheeler | Thursday, November 11, 2010
One of the most liberating secular proverbs I have ever read is this: "For every strength there is a weakness, and for every weakness, a strength." While that saying has many, many possible applications, I first encountered it in that form in the context of studies of human personality and of how human character relates to it. Should it really surprise anyone that the Bible says much about how the two relate to each other? Read more

Federal Europe by Stealth. A recent London Times headline read, “Softly, softly a federal Europe draws nearer.” The Times article continued, “While British and US politics have dominated the headlines this year, the truly historic events have occurred in Europe… The EU has taken its most decisive step towards becoming a genuine unitary State, by shifting key policies on taxes and public spending from national to federal level. That one of the most controversial decisions in modern European history has been taken with almost no public awareness or debate is a tribute to the top-down style of government perfected by the EU’s political elites. The EU version of elitist representative democracy, despite its apparent drawbacks, may go down in history as a more successful mechanism for managing the complex compromises demanded in a world of huge geopolitical change than the… US and British models.” The article concluded with the sobering observation, “European integration has always advanced through crises—and a great leap forward towards fiscal and political federalism has become irreversible after this year’s eurozone crisis. That was precisely what the euro’s creators intended” (Times, November 3, 2010). Bible prophecy reveals that the sudden appearance of a unified Beast power in Europe, consisting of ten kings (leaders) who give their power to this central government will surprise the world (Revelation 13:3; 17:12-13). We are watching truly historic events developing in Europe! For more about this topic, request our booklet Fourteen Signs Announcing Christ’s Return at www.tomorrowsworld.org.

The cancer that came to my lungs has cleared. I still have liver cancer, but God has been healing me slowly. Its a great experience. I've really been amazed by the process, the prayers, and the brethren.

I had coughing spasms for the past two months, but no spasms in the past week or so--it's completely gone.

I attribute my lack of colon cancer pain to the prayers of God's people. The prayers are working. It's a gradual healing that is teaching me much.

Riots in France and Italy. According to the French Finance Minister, worker strikes associated with last week’s riots over the increase in retirement age are costing France more than $500 million per day (Associated Press, October 25, 2010). Following the French riots, Italian citizens rioted in the Naples region to protest a proposed garbage dump. During the Italian riot, 20 police officers were assaulted, eight police cars damaged, and five garbage trucks and a police car were burned. Calls for Prime Minister Berlusconi’s resignation also rang out (Yahoo News, October 21, 2010). The Italian riots and the government-stopping riots in France are generating concern in Europe. As members of the EU, Italy and France are committed to maintain order in their respective countries. Questions are being asked as to how these riots will be viewed by the EU. Could the internal instability within France alert Berlin that France is no longer able to lead “along with” Germany (Stratfor, October 21, 2010)? Will spreading riots foster a public demand for “strong” and “stable” leadership in Europe? Could the citizens of individual European nations become so disenchanted with their own leaders that they would be willing to follow one central figure who promises stronger leadership? Bible prophecy indicates that “ten kings” will give their power over to one central figure near the end of the age (see Revelation 17:12-14). The events we are witnessing in Europe today could be pointing toward this eventuality.

10/24/10 a.m. Here is the latest Living Church of God World Ahead Weekly Update from Dr. Winnail. In it, he again mentions over 8,000 attended the FOT, a Dibar Apartian health update, a healing, Jamaica, LU, an Indiana "farm" weekend, world news items, and discusses the blessings of unity.

Here is the unity commentary:

The Blessings of Unity: David wrote, “how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity” (Psalm 133:1). Jesus said, “I and My Father are one” (John 10:30). He also prayed for His disciples “that they may be one as We are” (John 17:11). The Scriptures reveal that Peter and Paul at times had different personal perspectives (Acts 15, Galatians 2), but they learned to work together as a team to achieve their mission (2 Peter 3:14-16). They obviously realized that if each marched to his own drum, the job they were given would not get done. This is why Paul stated that as we do the Work of God we must be respectful and patient with each other, “endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace” (Ephesians 4:1-3). Paul also emphasized that there is “one body and one Spirit… one Lord, one faith, one baptism” and that the work of the ministry involves fostering the unity of the faith and not being split apart by different doctrinal ideas and the maneuverings of men (Ephesians 4:4-5, 11-16). As we are led by the same Spirit, we will see divisions diminish, and we will be “perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment” (1 Corinthians 1:10). Peace, harmony and unity in the Church of God become visible fruits when we are led by God’s Spirit.

Here is one of the world news items:

Catholic Church to Re-Evangelize Europe. “Pope Benedict XVI on Tuesday outlined his most tangible initiative yet to try to revive Christianity, creating a Vatican office for re-evangelizing Europe and other traditionally Christian regions where the faith is falling by the wayside. In an official decree, Benedict said the new office would work with bishops to promote church doctrine, use modern communication methods to get the church’s message out and mobilize missionary-type activities using members of religious orders and new religious movements… Benedict has made reviving Europe’s Christian roots a priority of his papacy and has concentrated his foreign travels on the continent” (Associated Press, October 12, 2010). In recent years, the Vatican and the Pope have worked hard to reintegrate the “church” into the European fabric, including seeking greater prominence in the EU. Bible prophecies reveal that a great mother church will play a major role in end-time events (Revelation 13:11-16; see Revelation 17). The foundation for the church’s role in the coming European Beast power will be “strengthened” in Europe in the days ahead!

Here are the goal comments:

Goals for the Coming Year:  In the book of Proverbs, Solomon advised, “Ponder the path of your feet, and let all your ways be established.  Do not turn to the right or the left; remove your foot from evil” (Proverbs 4:26).  As we return from the Feast, inspired by the sermons and fellowship, it is a good time to think about setting goals for the coming year.  What changes would you like to make or do you need to make to improve your relationship with God or your family or other individuals?  What can you do to improve your physical or spiritual health?  What can you do to serve God and others more effectively?  How can you prepare now for the Kingdom of God?  The Apostle Paul urged Christians to “walk circumspectly [carefully, diligently]” and make the most of the time at your disposal (Ephesians 5:15-16).  Peter exhorted his audience to “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 3:18).  What books can you read, what classes can you take, what topics can you study in the Bible, and what experiences can you arrange that will help you grow and prepare for the Kingdom of God?  Set some worthwhile goals for the coming year so that you can grow to be a truly profitable servant of God!

Here is one of the world news items:

Church of England’s Easter Egg Plan. In an attempt to put Christ back into Easter, the Church of England plans to sell chocolate Easter eggs that mention Christ on the packaging. Church leaders hope the packaging will remind people of the alleged connection between Christ and Easter and promote the “real” meaning of Easter.  A news article acknowledges, “the exchange of eggs at Easter has its roots in pagan ceremonies celebrating renewal, the custom was adopted by Christians, symbolizing not only new life but also the boulder that sealed Christ’s tomb” (Times online, October 1, 2010). Yet, this same article fails to state that the Church of England has neglected the warnings of the LORD Jesus Christ about blending pagan practices with the worship of God. The Bible clearly states that we should not learn the ways pagans worship their gods and then worship God in the same manner (Deuteronomy 12:30-31), and that we should not worship the sun rising to the east (Ezekiel 8:16)—a clear reference to the origins of the Easter Sunrise Service. It is worth asking, “Is this newest venture by the Church of England to publicize Christ, something God would truly be pleased with, or are the Shepherds of Israel using it to further lead people astray?” (see Ezekiel 34).

Here is one of the world news items:

Pope Makes Historic Visit to England. In September 2010, Benedict XVI made the first official state visit to England by a Roman Catholic Pope since the Protestant Reformation.  Although atheists threatened to have him arrested for covering up the activities of pedophile priests, the Pope apologized for the scandal, met with the Queen, and addressed an assembly of British politicians as “the Successor of Peter” and a representative of “the Catholic faith that comes to us from the Apostles” (Telegraph, 18 September 2010).  In a show of unity, Benedict prayed together with the head of the Anglican Church, Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams.  During the visit, the Pope warned about the growing marginalization of Christianity in modern societies and urged Anglicans and Roman Catholics to meet the challenge of aggressive secularism by overcoming their differences and fighting together against this common enemy.  After beatifying Cardinal Henry Newman, an Anglican priest who converted to Roman Catholicism, the Pope used his final speech to urge a “restoration of full communion” between the two churches that separated nearly 500 years ago. This ecumenical outreach by the “mother church” to regain her separated “daughters” has long been predicted in the Scriptures (Isaiah 47:1-8).

09/19/10 a.m. Here is the latest Living Church of God World Ahead Weekly Update from Dr. Winnail. In it, he mentions the Fall Holy Days, telecast, lectures, L4T Winter Camp, world news items, and to rejoice at the Feast.

Here is the rejoicing item:

Rejoice at the Feast: The Feast of Tabernacles is the highlight of the sacred year. It pictures the coming Kingdom of God when the saints will rule with Jesus Christ and bring peace to this earth. It will truly be a joyous time! To keep us mindful of this major step in the plan of God, we are commanded to “keep the feast of the LORD for seven days” and to “rejoice before the LORD your God for seven days… It shall be a statute forever” (Leviticus 23:39-44). The New Testament clearly indicates that Jesus kept the Feast and told His brothers, “You go up to this feast” (John 7:1-39). As we rejoice at the Feast, we need to remember Jesus’ instructions that we should be lights and examples to those around us (Matthew 5:13-16). How we conduct ourselves at the Feast and how we relate to everyone we meet—in services, in hotels, at restaurants—will reflect either positively or negatively on God’s Church and His way of life. As we rejoice at the Feast, let’s remember that we have been called to be “ambassadors for Christ” (2 Corinthians 5:20).

Here is one of the world news items:

Iran Crosses New Nuclear Threshold. Last week the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported that Iran has reached another milestone as it advances toward the goal of arming nuclear ballistic missiles. Iran’s missiles already have the ability to reach parts of Europe. In response, the Secretary General of NATO made an immediate visit to Washington and secured 200 million euros of funding and a pledge from President Obama to help create a missile defense system for Europe. Next week Iran’s President will visit Lebanon and solidify military relations that will include Hezbollah (DEBKA, September 13, 2010). As tensions rise around the globe, Europeans see a rising threat from Middle Eastern Islamic nations. For decades, God’s Church has warned the world to “watch the Middle East.” The growing threats toward Europe and the West from Islamic countries will eventually bring the fulfillment of God’s end-time prophecies. These certainly are sobering times we live in!

09/09/10 a.m. LCG's Scott Winnail reported the following news item:

Terror in the Streets. “With three police officers killed in separate instances in two months, and calls from some Illinois lawmakers for the National Guard to patrol its most violent streets, Chicago once again finds itself under growing pressure to rein in crime.” Chicago is well on the way to meeting last year’s statistic of almost 500 murders—mostly gang-related. “Chicagoans were alarmed this summer after a series of murders, including the death of an 8-year-old girl who was shot by a stray bullet while skipping rope”—which suggests that streets are not even safe to play in (YahooNews.com, August 30, 2010). But is “more law enforcement” really the answer, or just a temporary fix? God warned ancient Israel—and hence the Israelite-descended nations—that because of its disobedience, “I also will do this to you: I will even appoint terror over you…” (Leviticus 26:16). Later, God inspired Moses to write, “You shall fear day and night, and have no assurance of life… because of the fear which terrifies your heart, and because of the sight which your eyes see” (Deuteronomy 28:66-67). Today, many live in fear in our cities—fearing to walk or even to play. One day soon, Christ will return and usher in a time of peace, when people no longer oppress or “terrify” others (Psalm 10:18). God speed that day!

Here is that last item:

The Value of Hope: Having hope in the future—something positive to look forward to—is a vital aspect of life. Many have long understood that life without hope is empty. The Bible states, “Hope deferred makes the heart sick” (Proverbs 13:12). But what is the real hope in the life of a Christian? King David wrote, “You are my hope, O Lord GOD” and “I hope in Your word” (Psalm 71:5; 119:147). The Apostle Paul said under cross-examination before a Roman governor, “I have hope in God… believing all things which are written in the Law and in the Prophets” including the promise of a resurrection and eternal life that he would receive at the return of Jesus Christ (Acts 24:14-15; Titus 1:2; 2:13). We are urged as Christians “to lay hold of the hope set before us” (Hebrews 6:18), to “purify ourselves” so we can become “children of God” (1 John 3:1-3) and be “ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear” (1 Peter 3:15). Let’s all strive to be motivated by this same hope today!

Commentary: Proclaim liberty
By Rod Reynolds | Thursday, September 02, 2010
The common condition of mankind down through history has been one of bondage. For example, in the mid-nineteenth century, of some 60 million Russians about 50 million were serfs - a form of bondage little better than abject slavery. The word "serf" comes from a Latin word meaning slave. Adding several million who were conscripted into the army and others in prison or other forms of bondage, fewer than ten percent of the Russian population had anything like what we would consider personal freedom. American Bar Association to Urge Legalization of Same-Sex Marriage. Two weeks ago the American Bar Association (ABA) passed a resolution to urge state, territorial and tribal governments to eliminate barriers to same-sex marriage. According to Douglas Napier, senior legal counsel at the Alliance Defense Fund, “This [resolution] is so far afield from their primary purpose that this is nothing more than using the ABA to advance a political agenda—a social political agenda.” “They did it with the abortion issue in the 90’s, and now they’re doing it with marriage.” Napier continued his observation, “They [the ABA] aren’t speaking for the majority of attorneys… They don’t represent the majority of attorneys in the United States, yet they put themselves out as the voice of the American legal profession” (CNSNews.com, August 13, 2010). More and more groups and individuals are bent on engaging in social issues beyond their purview, and now national groups of lawyers are also joining the movement to overthrow the remaining godly values in our nations. Bible prophecy states that at the end of the age, men would be lovers of themselves (2 Timothy 3:2). The Apostle Paul warned about coming judgment because of growing and rampant homosexuality (Romans 1:18-31). Jesus also warned that lawlessness would abound at the end of the age (Matthew 24:12). When the lawyers—keepers of the law—lose track of morality and begin pushing unrighteous laws, what will come next for society?

In U.S., New EU Ambassador Overshadows British. A London newspaper reports that Joao Vale de Almeida, the new EU ambassador to the U.S., has informed American officials that he should be regarded as “first point of contact for transatlantic discussions” regarding foreign policy and security issues because he is now “leading the show” among European representatives in Washington (The Daily Telegraph, August 12, 2010). Mr. Vale de Almeida occupies a post in the new EU diplomatic corps established by the Lisbon Treaty, and he states that “I am the first new type of ambassador for the European Union anywhere in the world.” In addition to the new EU ambassador claiming to speak for Britain and other European nations to Britain’s most important ally (the U.S.), some politicians are also suggesting that “the EU should take the place of countries like Britain and France at international bodies including the United Nations and the International Monetary Fund.” Concerned British officials see the new ambassador’s statements as evidence of Britain’s waning influence and “proof that the EU diplomatic service is usurping the powers “of nation states.” These new EU representatives confirm what Bible prophecies have long foretold: that, as a result of God’s people turning away from Him, God would “break the pride of your power” (Leviticus 26:19), God’s people would be displaced on the world stage by other nations (Deuteronomy 28:43-45) and, at the end of the age, many nations of Europe would surrender their sovereignty to a Beast power that will arise on the continent just before the return of Jesus Christ (Revelation 17:12-13). We appear to be watching these ancient prophecies coming true today!

Commentary: What do you see?
By Davy Crockett | Thursday, August 19, 2010
Sometimes seeing, we do not see. Our approach to life with its joys, trials and challenges often depends upon our perception of what we choose to see in any given situation. An analogy that seems to fit this human proclivity is how one looks at a diamond, the rarest of precious stones. Diamonds, which are formed over time by tremendous heat and pressure, are beautiful, but each one has a flaw. The experts who select and grade stones take these imperfections into account in determining the value of each unique stone. Read more

08/17/10 p.m. Here is an excerpt from the latest co-worker letter from LCG's Richard Ames"

Has the U.S. Pentagon demonstrated good stewardship? This news headline seems almost unbelievable: “Audit: US cannot account for $8.7 billion in Iraqi funds” (Associated Press, July 27, 2010). Does the U.S. government just give money away without any accountability? The Baghdad-datelined article states: “A U.S. audit has found that the Pentagon cannot account for over 95 percent of $9.1 billion in Iraq reconstruction money, spotlighting Iraqi complaints that there is little to show for the massive funds pumped into their cash-strapped, war-ravaged nation.… It’s cash that Iraq, which relies on volatile oil revenues to fuel its spending, can ill afford to lose…. ‘The breakdown in controls left the funds vulnerable to inappropriate uses and undetected loss,’ the audit said.”

Can you imagine any successful organization conducting business in such a way that it cannot account for 95 percent of its spending? No! And if we do not as a nation repent of our poor stewardship, God will continue to allow the U.S. and other modern Israelite nations to self-destruct! As Dr. Meredith warns in his upcoming “Personal” in the September-October 2010 Tomorrow’s World magazine, “Another huge problem now looming just ahead is the financial crisis, which is affecting not only the U.S., but also much of the rest of the world. Yet it will affect America more dramatically than most other countries—for the U.S. has become the world’s ‘biggest debtor’—and is printing money like crazy—creating trillions of dollars of ‘monopoly money’ backed up by essentially nothing!” (p. 2).

This irresponsible fiscal approach assumes that U.S. productivity will continue to flourish, and that our grandchildren and great-grandchildren will pay for our massive indebtedness. But on June 9, Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke warned the House Budget Committee that the federal deficit is on an “unsustainable path.” Erskine Bowles, co-chair of a Presidential commission to reduce the federal deficit, told Parade magazine, “If we don’t solve the debt problem, we will be paying $1 trillion in interest in 2020. That’s money we can’t spend on Social Security, Medicare, education, infrastructure, or innovation to make sure America is competitive in a global economy. This debt is like a cancer [emphasis ours] growing within the country. To fix it, we’ve got to make decisions that are politically tough” (July 4, 2010, p. 8).

Will we be able to stop this deadly “cancer”? Can you even imagine paying $1 trillion dollars in interest?

Here is one of the world news items:

American Christianity Losing Believers.  In America today, millions of people are walking away from churches.  Growing numbers are “unaffiliated” with any particular church.  The reason is often the hypocrisy of self-proclaimed Christians.  Studies by evangelical George Barna reveal that born-again Christians divorce more frequently than atheists and agnostics.  Evangelical adolescents who claim to believe in abstaining from pre-marital sex are more likely to be sexually active than their peers in other religions.  According to Barna, “Every day, the church is becoming more like the world it allegedly seeks to change.”  One religious writer observed, “The hypocrisy between Christian beliefs and actions is driving Americans away from the institutional church in record numbers” (Charlotte Observer, August 11, 2010).  Jesus warned about the hypocrisy of professing believers, “This people honors Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me” (Mark 7:6-7), and He pronounced a curse on those who cause others to stumble (Matthew 18:6-7; Mark 9:42-43).  Professing Christians today should take note!

Hypocrisy is one of the reasons that the US and other Anglo-nations will be punished soon ().

Vatican Reaches Out to Europe.  The last few decades have seen double-digit growth in the number of Catholics around the globe, while mass attendance numbers in Europe have plummeted. Now, the Vatican has created the Pontifical Council for Evangelization to focus its recruitment efforts in Europe. “The pope is motivated by a deep concern that Europe’s spiritual foundation is slipping away, taking with it the continent’s future, both earthly and eternal.” The pope realizes that the future unification of European nations cannot happen outside of the “faith.” So, the current pope is holding true to the aims of his predecessor, helping regain “the Christian [Catholic] roots of Europe and its Christian [Catholic] soul” (ForeignPolicy.com, July 27, 2010). Bible prophecy makes clear that religion will be the glue that binds the final ten “iron and clay” kingdoms of the Beast power (Daniel 2:40-45; Revelation 17). Is it any coincidence that the Vatican is pushing hard to reignite the Catholic faith in Europe at this vital point in prophecy? We should look for the Vatican—the Pope and the Catholic Church—to play an increasing role in European politics in the future.

Congratulations to the presenters of the Tomorrow’s World Television Program—Dr. Meredith, Mr. Ames, Mr. Wallace Smith and Mr. Rod King on their Platinum Aurora win! While we are not doing the Work for human awards, it’s nice to have an independent, professional panel of judges working in the film and television industry, gauge the overall impact and quality of our telecast. Here is one of the world news items:

Britain Returning Home.  Britain currently maintains 140 embassies and “high commissions” in nations and principalities throughout the globe. Although many of Britain’s former colonies have been sovereign nations for decades, Britain has maintained prime real estate in these nations through tiny tracts of land that are technically “British soil”–in the form of embassies and high commissions. Faced with mounting deficits, the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office may need to cut its budget by up to 40% over the next four years. Thus, many of Britain’s embassies or high commissions will be either paired down or completely closed, greatly reducing Britain’s international presence. Consulates are vital for securing trade and investments and also for protecting British citizens around the globe. But, under new EU regulations, many of these historically sovereign responsibilities are being handed over to Brussels. Plans are also being made to sell or lease many of these embassies and residences (Times, July 15, 2010). Britain once claimed that the sun never set on her empire, and embassies have kept that claim still partially alive. However with their close and sale, Bible prophecies continue to be fulfilled.  God blessed the descendants of Joseph (Ephraim and Manasseh) who became a fruitful vine whose branches trailed over the wall and whose influence spread around the world (Genesis 49:22). We are now witnessing the sobering removal of this influence, as “high places” and “high commissions” are lost—because the Israelite nations have turned their back on God and His commandments (Leviticus 26:14-30).

In it, he mentions the TW lectures, an upcoming New Orleans family weekend, Living University registration, Panama City Feast announcements, Tanazania, Jamaica, Basa fish, world news items, and comments about humility.

Here are his comments on humilty:

Humility—Key to Unity: David wrote, “How good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity” (Psalm 133:1). The Apostle Paul urged Christians to “walk worthy” of their calling “with all lowliness and gentleness… endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace” (Ephesians 4:1-3). He stated that the work of the ministry is to edify (build up) the body (the Church) “till we all come to the unity of the faith” (Ephesians 4:12-13). Paul also told contentious Corinthians that they should be “perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment” (1 Corinthians 1:10). But what causes contentions that disrupt unity? The Scriptures reveal that pride is an underlying cause of contentions (Proverbs 13:10) and that pride will contribute to a person’s downfall and destruction (Proverbs 16:18). Insisting on doing things our own way also causes dissentions and strife (James 4:1). However, humility will eventually bring a person honor (Proverbs 15:33; 29:23) and will promote peace and unity (James 3:17-18). Jesus Christ was of “one mind” with His Father (John 10:30), and He was exalted because He humbled Himself and followed His Father’s instructions (Philippians 2:5-9). As Christians, we are encouraged to be subject to government (within and without the Church) and not to resist authority (Romans 13:1-2), to treat each other with respect, to be humble and not conceited about your own opinions (Romans 12:10-18). As we develop and learn to exercise this kind of humility, we will promote unity.

07/16/10 p.m. In his the latest coworker letter LCG's Roderick C. Meredith wrote:

The most important thing is that each of us contemplates carefully and honestly our very purposein life. Why were you born? Why are you drawing breath? If there is a real God as the Bible clearly indicates, what is His purpose for you? And are you truly fulfilling that supreme purpose?

Each of us needs to ask that question honestly and thoughtfully—and not “kid” ourselves about it in any way whatever. For our lives now—and our lives throughout eternity—will depend upon our willingness to face reality and ultimately to face these questions and answer the way our Creator wants us to. Somewhere on this earth, God has always had a “Work” through which He proclaimed His purpose in that particular age. We read that Enoch was a “preacher of righteousness.” We see that Abraham instructed his family and a group of hundreds of followers in the way of God. We see that Moses was used to teach people, and even the nations around, through what God did—that the Lord God of Israel was real. And that His laws were “right.” Later, Elijah cried out, then Elisha and then later John the Baptist cried out “in the wilderness.” Then came Jesus Christ, the apostles and the early Church. Today, we in this Work are truly “reaching out” to increasing millions of people through our expanded television coverage around the world, our powerful use of the Internet, our Tomorrow’s World magazine and many other ways. We will—with God’s help—reach this world as “a witness” with the true message of Jesus Christ regarding the “Kingdom of God”—the great Government which He is now preparing and which will soon be set up on this earth.

Just the other day, I was given the results of my latest television program which was aired this past weekend. We received more than 5,200 responses—even during this normally “slow” summer season. So we are very thankful for the results that God is giving us. A few days ago, my wife and I returned from Dallas, TX, where we had nearly 300 people attend a Tomorrow’s World Special Presentation—a public campaign proclaiming the message of Christ to those interested in following through and giving their lives to God. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Ames will return tonight from Trinidad where he conducted a similar campaign—this time with more than 300 people in attendance, and a wonderful response. Around the world and around the country, the Work of God is increasing in power. We also have a great deal of unity and loyalty because we practice the “way of God”—including the correct form of Church Government which Jesus Christ and the apostles clearly taught and practiced continually. So we are blessed. God has been good to us in spite of our human faults and errors. So we have much to be thankful for.

However, dear friends and brethren, one of the most powerful warnings God gives all of us at the end of this age is the clear warning not to be “Laodicean.” What does God condemn the Laodiceans for, primarily? He does not condemn them for wrong doctrine. He does not condemn them for big personal sins. He states in His inspired Word, “I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth” (Revelation 3:15-16).

So the last Church Era of this age is Laodicea. And this age is therefore dominated by the “Laodicean spirit”—a spirit of apathy and lukewarmness. Often, even God’s people reflect the attitude or spirit of those around them. This must be even more so now because of the pervasive influence of television and the Internet. People in most of the world are becoming more and more “worldly” in many ways. They are distracted by their focus on wealth, prosperity and “things.” God seems “far off” to them. So they are apathetic. They do not get excited and truly zealous about serving the Creator who gives them life and breath.

Yet, throughout God’s Word, He tells us over and over that absolute zeal and total commitment to serving Him are some of the characteristics He most looks for in His true servants.

Commentary: "Rethink Church"
"Rethink Church" has become a popular slogan.  Do you want to be part of Jesus' faithful church; the "little flock" (Luke 12:32) that Jesus promised would never cease (Matthew 16:18)?  If so, then here are 10 Biblical keys to help us "rethink church" and analyze if we are following Christ - or false human ideas. Read more

Commentary: Atoms and the existence of God
Although the existence of atoms is considered an undisputed scientific truth today, it has not always been so. In the early history of man's search for physical knowledge, some believed in atoms and some did not. In it, he mentions the TW lectures, Missouri music weekend, Living University registration, Rocky Mountain Saratoga family weekend, LYC essay contest, Missouri pre-teen camp, Feast announcements, Pre-teen camp, world news items, and comments about the handwriting on the wall.

Here are two of the items:

Handwriting on the Wall! On July 4, the United States, currently the most powerful nation in the world, celebrated 234 years of independence. The following day, on Monday, July 5, British-born Harvard professor and economic historian Niall Ferguson opened the 2010 Aspen Ideas Festival with a stark warning that the American “empire” could suddenly collapse—possibly within the next two years—due to the country’s rising debt! Citing historical examples, Ferguson pointed out that economic debt can lead to a loss of military power and global respect—which he saw firsthand on a recent trip to China—where China’s leaders were not interested in being lectured by Americans about economics or democracy. He noted that the recent financial crisis “has accelerated a fundamental shift in the balance of power with the U.S. shedding power and China absorbing it.” A number of factors are coming together—tax cuts, two wars, the financial recession, the resulting federal stimulus and bailout programs, and the growth of entitlement programs—that spell trouble for America in the days ahead. This is what Bible prophecies have long foretold. When nations forget God and turn away from His laws there will be serious consequences unless they repent (see Leviticus 26, Deuteronomy 28). The Scriptures, the Church of God and prominent historians have been warning for decades about the direction that America and other Israelite nations have been going—yet, those warnings have gone unheeded. Hopefully, we can learn from this and make the changes in our lives we need to make—before it is too late!

Christ Probably Did not Die on a Cross. In a recent dissertation study at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden, pastor Gunnar Samuelsson spent 400 pages describing the “Crucifixion in Antiquity.” His findings bear out what God’s Church has known and taught for decades—that Jesus Christ likely did not die on a “t-shaped” cross. As a devout evangelical preacher and believer in the “power of the Cross,” what Samuelsson discovered shocked him!  In his in-depth research, he could find no clear references to the t-shaped cross. Samuelsson noted in an ABC News interview that “…for generations people have misinterpreted and mistranslated the Greek word ‘stauros’ [translated cross in most Bibles] to mean crucifix, when really the term just means a suspension device, which might have been anything such as a ‘pole or tree trunk’” (www.whas11.com, July 2, 2010). Although the information presented by Samuelsson has been known by scholars and God’s Church for decades, it is interesting to see it highlighted in the media. Satan, in his craftiness, has deceived people into believing and even worshiping the crucifix—rubbing likenesses of it, kneeling before it and even making it into religious jewelry. Sadly, not only do many people bow before an image, which God forbids (Deuteronomy 5:8), the crucifix is probably not even an accurate portrayal of the instrument of Christ’s death.

Here is one of the world news items:

Germany and Russia. While Europe boomed, Germany was satisfied and did not need partners outside of Europe. It had plenty of markets to sell its goods and a vast worker base to support German industry. However, with the financial ills present throughout Europe and the inability to sustain its economy within the confines of Europe, Germany may be looking for another partner that can help it continue to grow and also support its demand for more workers. Germany is now reaching out to Russia while stating that it wants to integrate Russia into Europe. “It should be remembered that the Germans are proposing a Russian security relationship with Europe, not a Russian security relationship with Germany alone. At the same time, it should be remembered that it is the Germans taking the initiative to open the talks by unilaterally negotiating with the Russians and taking their agreements to other European countries.” As one expert on geopolitics describes Germany’s current challenge, “The Germans do not want to lose the European concept. At the same time, they are trying to redefine it more to their advantage. From the German point of view, bringing Russia into the relationship would help achieve this. But the Germans still have to explain what their relationship is with the rest of Europe, particularly their financial obligation to troubled economies in the eurozone” (Stratfor, June 22, 2010). Students of prophecy understand that Germany will play a leading role in the coming European Beast power (Isaiah 10:5-11). Germany’s current actions with Russia appear to support the possibility of such a future role. Eventually though, Germany will become a blessing to the nations of the earth (Isaiah 19:23-25).

Commentary: "Declaring Our Dependence on God"
Independence Day is a time to celebrate freedom. But many Americans-even many who call themselves Christians-fail to realize that they are NOT free. Many are slaves to sin. Some even twist Christ's words and preach that God's law is done away. From the very beginning, some have tried to pervert God's grace into license. We read in Romans 6, verses 14 through 16: "For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace. What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Certainly not! Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one's slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?" Read more

Afghanistan Minerals and Prophecy.  Recently released geological surveys of Afghanistan reveal that the country is very rich with minerals: gold, copper, iron, and lithium—a mineral crucial in the construction of laptop and cell phone batteries. Geologists suggest that Afghanistan could become the “Saudi Arabia of Minerals.” As the Pentagon helps this tiny war-torn nation gear up for the sale of mineral contracts, China has already been attempting to buy up rights for a copper mine. Afghanistan’s greatest mineral stores are iron and copper—two metals essential to a growing nation like China (New York Times, June 13, 2010). The European Union is also involved in Afganistan. If the United States pulls out of this country, will the EU sit by and watch China gobble up the rights to Afghanistan’s mineral resources? Could the race for natural resources, including both oil and other vital minerals be part of the forces driving the fulfillment of end-time prophecies? Bible prophecies state that the Beast Power in Europe will be troubled by news from “the east and the north” and “shall go out with great fury to destroy and annihilate many” (Daniel 11:44). Will competition from nations like China and Russia over access to resources eventually cause friction with the Beast Power in Europe? Time will make this clear.

In it, he mentions travel, Bible lectures in Canada and the USA, Feast announcements,Texas pre-teen camp, Pentecost in Malaysia, world news items, and discusses that the importance of paying attention to prophecy.

Here are his comments on prophecy:

Pay Attention to Prophecy: Jesus told His disciples to stay alert and watch for the fulfillment of specific prophecies that will mark the approaching end of this age (Matthew 24, Mark 13, Luke 21). He also warned, in the parable of the foolish virgins, that many will be caught napping and unprepared by the surge of events that will precede the return of Jesus Christ to this earth (Matthew 25:1-13). It is sobering and exciting to realize that God has given His Church a “more sure word of prophecy” (2 Peter 1:19, KJV) so we can warn the nations of Israel and this world about the prophetic significance of both current and impending world events! It is also an awesome responsibility to be commissioned as a watchman (see Ezekiel 3; 33). However, it is very instructive to see how Satan has used misguided individuals to ridicule the Church’s understanding of prophecy, accusing members of suffering from “prediction addiction” or of failing to embrace a more “enlightened” view that Bible prophecies are only symbolic and do not apply to real events today! As we watch world events building to a prophetic crescendo, let’s make sure that we are building a closer relationship with God and that we are learning to really live by every word of God (Matthew 4:4).

06/17/10 p.m. The following is from the latest (June 15, 2010) co-worker letter from Dr. Meredith:

The Tomorrow’s World television program achieved a new milestone when the 100,000th TV response of 2010 came in on May 16, which is the earliest in a calendar year this has ever happened. As of this letter, we have now received more than 115,000 responses from our TV viewers since the beginning of the year, which makes 2010 our biggest year yet. The response-level is tracking to more than a quarter-million TV responses by the end of this calendar year. We are also getting huge responses from our Web site, www.TomorrowsWorld.org, and follow-up responses from our magazines, booklets, and Bible lessons, as well as word-of-mouth responses from all of you talking to your friends and relatives...

In addition to the hundreds of thousands of booklets and other items we have sent since January, we have already mailed nearly one million Tomorrow’s World magazines around the world. Currently the Tomorrow’s World magazine is being mailed into more than 171 countries and dependencies. To date, we have been able to deliver the magazine into 85 percent of the world’s recognized countries and nations...

God has called each of us to a great and mighty end-time Work. While each of us individually may have only a seemingly tiny role, Jesus Christ makes up the difference! The Apostle Paul was inspired to write in 1 Corinthians 3:9,“…we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, you are God’s building…. For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ” (vv. 9, 11). For God’s good purpose, as only He knows, He has called you to be an integral part of this Work. There are very few of us involved with doing God’s Work in a world filled with more than 6.8 billion people. So we must be filled with enthusiasm and zeal in reaching out to these billions of fellow human beings with the Truth of God! Yet we must do far more than just “lay the Truth out there”—by teaching them God’s laws and warning them about the coming Tribulation and Day of the Lord. We must inspire them with the very love of God, and we must live this love as an example to these people so that all of us may be fully able to comprehend God’s purpose in making us—in His time—God’s full Sons in the coming Family of God (John 17:20-22). This genuine love—“Christ in us”—will carry right on over into the Work we will be doing in Tomorrow’s World. Without this love, our efforts will be relatively empty for, as I explained earlier, we will be like a “clanging cymbal”—unable to practice the very love and outflowing concern which we preach to the world. So may God help every one of you increasingly yield your life to God, literally “cry out to Him” to help you fulfill His purpose in your life, and so prepare yourself for the coming Kingdom of God on this earth.

Europe is locked in a desperate struggle against growing national debt problems and financial contagion.  Nations from Spain to Italy to France are freezing spending, cutting salaries, reducing welfare programs and cutting operating costs (Reuters, "Austerity measures around the Eurozone," June 8, 2010).  With all that Europe has to worry about, it may be surprising that polygamy may be contributing to Europe's fiscal woes. Read more

Here is the latest Living Church of God World Ahead Weekly Update from Dr. Winnail. In it, he mentions the semi-annual letter, healings, a Omaha zoo activity, Bible lectures, NY Feast announcement, world news items, and discusses pride vs. humility.

Two of the world news items were related to the Gulf Oil spill:

Oil Spill, Fish, and Birds. Seven weeks into the BP Gulf of Mexico oil spill and experts still do not know exactly how much oil is being released a mile below the surface. However, the toll on wildlife and fisheries, and those who generate incomes from these resources, is becoming more evident. Not only are water bird populations suffering from the spill; fish populations are also being impacted, as coastal estuaries and wildlife sanctuaries are being destroyed (cbs2chicago.com, June 5, 2010; AP, June 9, 2010). Recent studies indicate that oil is spreading in plumes thousands of feet below the surface of the ocean and scientists have yet to understand what the full consequences will be on the Gulf ecosystem (The Charlotte Observer, June 9, 2010). Long ago, God warned the Israelite-descended nations that, because of their sins, “the land will mourn; and everyone who dwells there will waste away with the beasts of the field and the birds of the air; even the fish of the sea will be taken away” (Hosea 4:3). God also said that because of disobedience to His laws, “I will… bring your sanctuaries to desolation…” (Leviticus 26:31). Mankind’s greed has led him to not look to God for help and guidance. The result will continue to be death and destruction until the Creator returns in power and majesty to teach humans the true way to an abundant life (Isaiah 2:2-4; John 10:10). In the meantime, God promises that the plagues on Israel will result in the land finally being given a rest from exploitation when its inhabitants are led off into captivity to other nations (Leviticus 26:34).

Oil, the Black Tip of the Iceberg.  The oil industry in the Gulf of Mexico is a multi-layered industry—from drilling to catering, lodging, air and water transportation, boat repair, etc. The U.S. government halted new drilling permits for at least six months, creating panic and uncertainty in the oil industry and its corresponding support industries. Many firms now are considering towing their drilling rigs to Brazil, Trinidad, Mexico and even Africa. If they move, and the U.S. government rescinds the moratorium, it could take several years for oil firms to return to the Gulf. Such a move would devastate major revenue streams and jobs in the U.S.—completely crippling economies still struggling after Hurricane Katrina. Louisiana could lose up to 20,000 jobs over the next 12-18 months. (The Times-Picayune, May 30, 2010). God said Israel’s sins would result in its power disappearing. U.S. firms and workers have invested billions of dollars to build a nation-sustaining industry, yet this industry could disappear. God is not mocked, and we will reap what we sow (Galatians 6:7)!

Commentary: "Do You Have God's Protection?"
Why is it that we human beings, created in the image of God, generally ignore our Creator until some tragedy or calamity strikes? Is it because many of us by nature are procrastinators? Here is one of the world news items:

Cassava Blight Spreading. Cassava is a root plant that is low in nutritional value, but it is hearty, drought resistant, and fills the stomach. It is also a major staple crop for people around the globe. Cassava’s newest enemy is “brown streak”—a blight that forms brown lumps in the tuber, ruining the flavor—even hogs refuse to eat it once infected. Experts cannot stop the blight and resistant crops are likely five years away. “Although it has been seen on coastal farms for 70 years, a mutant version emerged in Africa’s interior in 2004.” Since then, there has been “explosive, pandemic-style spread,” observed Claude M. Fauquet, director of cassava research at the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center in St. Louis. “The speed is just unprecedented, and the farmers are really desperate,” he said. Some experts fear the blight could become global—a sobering possibility given that cassava is the world’s third largest food crop, after wheat and corn. Some worry that the blight could have an impact similar to the Potato Famine in Europe in the 1840’s (New York Times, June 1, 2010). Jesus warned that at the end of the age, “famines and pestilences” would be signs of His impending return (Luke 21:11). New infectious diseases and blights appear to be coming to the fore, regularly. Many of these diseases have the potential of causing tremendous damage to human civilization. More than 800 million people in Africa, South America, and Asia regularly consume cassava. God speed the day when crop failures will be a thing of the past!

Lascelles Fraser reports on the ongoing unrest and violence in Jamaica: The limited State of Emergency and resultant curfew started at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday. All the brethren reached their homes safely… All are monitoring the situation and taking the necessary security precautions not to venture into the troubled areas. A prospective member actually lives in the area under curfew. Thankfully, she is well, except that her movements are restricted. The unrest caused restricted movements on Monday (a public holiday), as there were roadblocks mounted on some thoroughfares. I wanted to get something from the office on Monday but was unable, as two routes to the office were blocked and I could hear gunfire from my home in the vicinity of one of the roadblocks. Yesterday [Tuesday], most business curtailed their operations, sending staff home early and, by mid- afternoon, there was not much traffic on the streets. Today [Wednesday], there is more movement on the streets. However, some businesses in the areas where roadblocks were mounted remain closed and some employers have told their employees to remain at home for the rest of the week. Your prayers are appreciated.

AIDS in Africa: A Solution Condemned. In Malawi, AIDS infection rates are estimated at around 12% of the population (more than one million people). The fastest growing infection rates are among homosexual men. Now, in the face of international criticism, a Malawi judge is expected to sentence two homosexual men to prison for publically celebrating their engagement. They were convicted of “unnatural acts and gross indecency.” Homosexuality is illegal in 37 African nations (AP, May 18, 2010). Critics oppose these laws that date back to the colonial era and also suggest that such court actions will make the fight against AIDS more difficult. Despite political and societal opinion, male homosexuals are at extremely high risk for contracting AIDS, when compared to the general population. Additionally, public health officials do know how to stop the spread of AIDS and other sexually-transmitted infections. The solution is simple and very inexpensive; however, it requires character: sexual relations must only occur within the marriage of a man and woman! God commanded this nearly 4,000 years ago on Mt. Sinai (Exodus 20:14), and the Apostle Paul reinforced it nearly 2,000 years ago when he commanded the Church to “flee sexual immorality” (1 Corinthians 6:18). Paul further described sexual sin as a sin against one’s own body. God gives simple, loving laws that, when obeyed, lead to health and a long life (Leviticus 26:1-12). Sadly, society views these simple loving laws as outdated and stifling.

The Future of Britain? In recent weeks, Britain experienced what some have called “the most important election in recent history.” The socialist Labor Party, under Tony Blair and Gordon Brown, occupied the Prime Minister post for 13 years. Now, the Conservative Party has been returned to office, but not without a divided election, absent of a clear winner. This election brought an “historic and seismic shift” in British politics with Gordon Brown’s resignation, the installment of Tory David Cameron as Prime Minister, and the appointment of Cameron’s Liberal Democrat opponent Nick Clegg, to the “rarely awarded post” of Deputy Prime Minister (Telegraph.co.uk, May 12, 2010; MSNBC.com, May 11, 2010). Interestingly, “Cameron’s party is deeply skeptical over cooperation in Europe, and has withdrawn from an alliance with the parties of Germany’s Angela Merkel and France’s Nicolas Sarkozy.” Mr. Clegg, on the other hand, is a former MEP and “pro” Europe (AP, May 11, 2010). Although a coalition government comprised of “rivals turned colleagues” is not new to Britain, this one has many wondering what the future will bring. God condemns leaders of the “end-time” Israelite-descended nations for not fulfilling their responsibilities (Ezekiel 34:1, 4). Prophecy reveals that Britain’s new leaders will not “fix” the decaying society they now govern. The next five years will truly bring about interesting times for Britain and the entire world!

Bible-Supporting Evidence on Ancient Egyptian Coins? A recent rediscovery in The Museum of Egypt supports the biblical story of Joseph. Researchers discovered a cache of “so-called” coins bearing Joseph’s name (in Hebrew and Egyptian), his image, and the year they were made. They also note he was the Treasurer of Egypt at about the time the Bible places him in Pharaoh’s court. Additional coins bear the image of a cow, possibly from Pharaoh’s dream of the seven fat and lean cows. The story was originally run in the Egyptian paper Al-Ahram (Jerusalem Post, September 25, 2009; MEMRI.org, September 24, 2009). Whether or not the objects found were truly coins is far less important than their inscriptions. The Bible records the story of Joseph ruling in Egypt, along with the fact that people came up from all countries to “buy” grain during the seven years of famine (Genesis 41:57). It also records the use of silver-type “money” by Joseph’s brothers (Genesis 42:25). For decades, certain camps in the field of archaeology have sought to discredit the Bible as a valid historical document. However, as time goes on, more and more archaeological evidence is surfacing to support the biblical accounts, much to the chagrin of many atheist and agnostic historians.—

Commentary: TV has gone too far - again
You may have seen the news - a new satire about God being developed by the Comedy Central channel.  It's a cartoon called "JC", short for Jesus Christ.  A recent Washington Post article of May 6 reports that this new cartoon show is "about Christ trying to get out from the shadow of his 'powerful but apathetic father' so He can lead a typical New York life" ("Comedy Central: No to Muhammad - but Yes! to Jesus"). Read more

Commentary: "An evening at Grandma's"
When I was in my twenties, I would take the opportunity to visit my paternal grandmother on a Friday night. During these special visits, my grandmother would feed me a delicious meal as we talked sitting at her dining room table. Through some gentle prodding from me, she would recount her life, her upbringing, her family and her life with my grandfather. Read more

05/09/10 a.m. Here is the latest Living Church of God World Ahead Weekly Update from Dr. Winnail. In it, he mentions the ministerial conference, Bible lectures, protection, Feast announcements and sites, a thank you, world news items, and discusses the importance of working together.

Here are the protection items:

Memphis and Arkansas Weather Update

Mr. Wyatt Ciesielka reports: As you may have heard, most of Arkansas and most of Tennessee (and other parts of the country) have been hit pretty hard by very severe thunderstorms, a few tornadoes, flooding, etc.  We had a couple of tornados come through Arkansas and miss our brethren by only eight or nine miles.  Huge parts of Memphis and Nashville are under water right now. I have been able to talk to most of the brethren in the Little Rock, Russellville, Newport and Memphis congregations, and I am very thankful to say that it appears that everyone has received God’s protection from these storms…. No homes damaged.  No flooded homes.

Mr. James Sweat reports: God has indeed protected our brethren in the Nashville area.  Most brethren have had a difficult time getting around and some have lost electrical power and have soggy lawns, but we do not know of any who have lost property or health due to flooding!

Australia Update

God Protects His People in Northern Queensland: MembersRod Edgar (Bowen, QLD), Fred Tappert (Mackay, QLD) and Robert Jupe (Mackay, QLD) were spared the severity of Cyclone Ului, but there was a lot of damage in the Proserpine and Airlie Beach areas which received the full force of the storm. Both Bowen and Mackay experienced the outer part of the storm which contained horizontal rain and strong winds gusts of over 100 km/h…. The last bad storm to hit Mackay was in the 1950s, which destroyed one of its bridges. Mr. Tappert, Mr. Edgar and Mr. Jupe are all doing well and are thankful to God that there was no damage to their properties.—Mark Mager

Melbourne Storms: In Melbourne, severe storms wreaked havoc with 100 km/h winds on Saturday, March 6, 2010. The city centre and metropolitan areas were covered in hail larger than golf balls. At least 300 homes and cars were damaged by hail stones and rain. Melbourne received one month’s worth of rain in one hour. Comments included “things you never thought you’d see.” Brethren were sitting in services listening to Dr. Meredith’s sermon on the “fast day” and, at times, were unable to hear the message with the hail beating on the roof and bouncing outside the hall. The heavy black storm clouds could be seen over Melbourne from the hall, but members only experienced the edge of the storm—reminiscent of Psalm 91. No members’ cars were damaged, for which we thank our loving God.—Lyn Hayhurst

Perth Hail Storm: On March 22, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. the sky went unusually dark and, out of nowhere, hail stones, some the size of tennis balls, came crashing down onto anything in their way. The dreaded feeling of disaster, shock and devastation hit when thousands realized the severity of the storm. Roads were flooded and about 200,000 homes were blacked out. Many homes and businesses were damaged because of flooding and glass windows or doors being smashed by the large hail stones. Thousands of cars were left with damage, some beyond repair. The storm hit closer to home when the children’s early learning facility I was working at was affected. Large hail stones smashed through a glass window and through the undercover areas surrounding the centre. The centre’s van and staff vehicle, including the hire car I had, had windows smashed and huge dents all over them. The storm has also brought a hike in prices for our locally grown vegetables; lettuce, which normally costs about $1.50 each, has risen to a whopping $5! Perth is currently still counting the cost. The present damage bill stands at $650 million. However, there are fears that the total damage bill may hit $1 billion in the coming months.—Deb de Silva

Feast of Tabernacles Registration:  IMPORTANT—PLEASE READ

Please register (even if you are going to assigned site)! As of April 22, we have 2,504 brethren registered for the US and Canadian sites. However, it is imperative that all members and attendees register for the Feast for our records to be complete.  Some have thought that if they are attending their assigned site that there is no need to register.  This is not correct. Registration is required, even if attending your assigned site.  Also, registration should be done even if you are not able to attend the Feast (you register as “unable to attend”), to enable us to better serve those who cannot attend.  If you have questions, please see your local Festival Advisor.

Overbooked in Helen: Regrettably, some of our Helen, Georgia transfer approvals were made in error.  With seating capacity at Helen extremely tight, we currently will not have enough room even for our locally assigned brethren.  We are asking some of our incoming transfers to Helen to change their plans, even if they were approved to transfer to Helen.  If you can do this, we would greatly appreciate it. If you are assigned to Helen and have not yet registered, please do so right away!  Also, even if you are assigned to Helen but can transfer to another site, it would be greatly appreciated.  At this time, we have plenty of room for incoming transfers to Panama City, New Braunfels, Branson, and Wisconsin Dells. We truly apologize for the inconvenience, and appreciate your patience in this matter.

Here is one of the world news items:

The Power of Earthquakes. The shifting of the earth’s giant tectonic plates results in earthquakes and even volcanic eruptions. Over the last week, an Icelandic volcano spewed ash seven miles (more than 10 kilometers) into the air, halting air travel throughout most of Europe, and stranding air travelers worldwide (Time, April 16, 2010). Estimates place the cost of the current crisis between $200-$300 million per day. Estimates suggest 750,000 passengers are stranded globally, due to the eruption. The Royal Navy sent ships to France and Spain this week to assist stranded travelers. Experts expect the ash cloud to dissipate in the near future, but they remind the public that when the volcano last erupted 100 years ago, its eruption lasted for two years (AP, April 19, 2010). God warned Israel that because of its repeated sins and rejection of God, “… your highways shall be desolate” (Leviticus 26:22). Although the prophecy appears to be connected with wild beasts preying on the populace, it is sobering to consider that given this relatively small volcanic eruption, the “highest of human highways”—the highways in the sky—have become quite desolate over Europe this week. “God is not mocked” and warns that humanity will reap what it has sown (Galatians 6:7). The last two months have witnessed a series of sobering natural disasters. What will God allow next?

In most cases you will know soon after registering if you have been approved.  Some sites have limited seating, however, which will require transfer approval.  If you are applying for a transfer, we will notify you by email as quickly as we can.

Thank you for your patience -- and thanks for registering!

Commentary: Should the Pope resign?
As the Vatican reels from scandal, even some Catholic priests are now demanding the Pope's resignation (BostonHerald.com, "W. Mass. priest calls for pope to resign," April 12, 2010).  When scandal or political turmoil reaches a boiling point, what should a church ... or a nation do? Read more

04/14/10 a.m. In his co-worker letter yesterday, Richard Ames wrote:

Jesus Christ actively continues to lead His Church. We need to humble ourselves and look to Him for the resources and spiritual power to fulfill the mission He gave His Church: to preach the gospel of the Kingdom in all the world; to warn our Western nations (the lost ten tribes of Israel) to repent before the Great Tribulation (Matthew 24:21-22); and to feed the flock spiritually (John 21:15-19). That is one reason Dr. Meredith, with the advice and support of the Council of Elders, proclaimed a Church-wide fast for the Sabbath of March 6. Since that time just over six weeks ago, the living Christ has opened exciting media doors for preaching the gospel (see Colossians 4:3; Revelation 3:8). Dr. Meredith will announce those new developments later on. Frankly, one challenge is the high cost of broadcasting on the larger television networks; we sometimes must make the painful decision to wait until more resources become available. We thank our brethren and co-workers for their faithful support in making possible the effective broadcasting and publishing of the true Gospel. Please continue to pray that God will add more co-workers, donors and laborers to accomplish His Work (Matthew 9:37-38)...

God has called His ministry and people to be “watchmen.” We must warn our peoples of their sins and of the consequences that will follow unless they repent. God told the prophet Ezekiel, “So you, son of man: I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; therefore you shall hear a word from My mouth and warn them for Me” (Ezekiel 33:7). God commissioned the prophet Isaiah, “Cry aloud, spare not; lift up your voice like a trumpet; tell My people their transgression, and the house of Jacob their sins” (Isaiah 58:1). Tomorrow’s World and the Living Church of God are striving to powerfully warn millions that they may be spared from the Great Tribulation soon to come (Matthew 24:21-22)...

Although God promised Noah that He would not again destroy the earth with a flood (Genesis 9:11), He will use “natural disasters” to wake our peoples and nations to the signs of the times in which we are living. The United States Geological Survey includes in its list of “significant earthquakes” the 7.2 magnitude April 4 temblor in Baja California, Mexico, and the 4.4 magnitude March 16 earthquake in Los Angeles, California...

At least 17 earthquakes of magnitude 6.0 or greater have struck our globe in the first four months of 2010! Scientists are calling the 8.8 magnitude quake that struck Chile on February 27 one of the seven or eight most powerful temblors ever recorded! The January 12 quake in Haiti, though “merely” a 7.0, was one of the five or six deadliest in recorded history, causing more than 230,000 deaths and several hundred thousand serious injuries. From Chile to China, from Haiti to Japan, earthquakes have reminded us of our fragile existence on planet Earth. Even the central U.S.—far from the Pacific “Ring of Fire”—has been startled by unusual earthquake activity in the first months of 2010, with a 4.0 in Oklahoma on January 15 and a 3.8 in Illinois on February 10. It has been nearly 200 years since the New Madrid Fault buckled in December 1811 and January 1812. Is the American Midwest ready for the next big temblor?

Brethren, God’s way is the way of give. As Jesus told His disciples, “Freely you have received, freely give” (Matthew 10:8). In the version of this letter being sent to co-workers, we are offering them a free subscription to The Living Church News, so they may more deeply come to understand the Way of life Jesus Christ taught. Please join with me in praying that many will accept our offer, and that God may call them into a closer relationship with Him and His Church. I pray that all of you members are regularly reading the LCN, so you can stay abreast of Dr. Meredith’s latest guidance and insights, and can learn from the many helpful and inspiring articles. No, the LCN is not a substitute for your Bible study—which you should maintain faithfully, along with your prayer, meditation and occasional fasting. But it should be a valuable tool to complement and enrich your study of God’s word and His Way.

Thank you all for your continuing support in preaching the true gospel of the soon-coming Kingdom of God! May God bless you as you follow the Way of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

04/12/10 p.m. Here is the latest Living Church of God World Ahead Weekly Update from Dr. Winnail. In it, he mentions the Holy Days, lectures, many ordinations, a French update, a Thailand update, LYC, two FOT sites, world news events, and asks where is your heart?

Here is one of the world news items:

Homosexual Agenda Advances in Britain. According to the Equality Act of 2006, it is illegal in Britain “to discriminate against people on the grounds of sexual orientation.” This law is now being broadly applied so that anyone who inhibits homosexual activity can be prosecuted. Recently, the owner of a private Bed and Breakfast refused service to a homosexual couple. She claimed it was “against her convictions” to allow two men to share a bed in her house. Although the woman says she was not rude, she now faces possible criminal charges for violating the Equality Act. While she is shocked that the government could dictate to her what she is allowed to tolerate in her in her own home, many people were shocked at her display of “homophobia” (BBC, March 21, 2010). The Bible clearly reveals that homosexual acts are sinful (Leviticus 18:22 and Romans 1:27) and should not be encouraged by individuals or governments. This is one of the many signs that Israelite nations are modern day examples of Sodom and Gomorrah (Ezekiel 16:44-59). While God commands His people to “come out of sin,” (2 Corinthians 6:17), our modern society appears determined to move as far away from God’s laws as possible!
