02/26/06 a.m. Here is latest update from Douglas Winnail.

02/22/06 a.m. In the latest telecast, RC Meredith states:

Your future is about to be drastically changed. A massive religious revival will soon overtake the western world and and it will affect your life far more than you can probably now imagine. The Antichrist your Bible talks about will be heavily involved and will deceive you and most of your friends and loved ones if you do not understand and heed God's warning.

02/19/06 a.m. Here is the latest update from Douglas Winnail. In it, he mentions travels, media, and teamwork.

He also included these news items:

Coming: A “Grand Union” of Asian Nations.  In a recent meeting in Manila, leaders from Europe and Asia met to further plans to establish an Asia-Pacific free trade zone by 2010.  Nations attending included two of the world’s economic leaders, India and China, which also boast nearly half of the world’s inhabitants.  Leaders likened this regional unification to a “European Union-type integration of Asian nations—a continent without dividing lines” (Philippine Daily Enquirer, Jan. 28, 2006).  Meanwhile, the United States is (indirectly) encouraging nuclear weapons development by India—which will stimulate nuclear weapons development in Pakistan and China.  The idea is to enable these regional powers to mediate disputes in their region (China Daily, Feb. 15, 2006).  Unbeknownst to those creating the ‘Grand Union’ and those promoting nuclear weapons in India and China, the Bible predicts that during the tribulation, a great power from the North and East (of Jerusalem) will attack and destroy a Roman Catholic-sponsored beast power in Europe (Dan 11:44-45, Rev 9:13-21) with a 200 million-man army, killing 1/3 of mankind!  These kings from the East will also come up to Jerusalem to fight the returning Christ (Rev 16:12-16).  We appear to be witnessing the formation of an Eastern force that will play a crucial role in prophesied end-time events.  Ironically, the West is encouraging these Eastern nations to increase their armaments, and the Philippines—the nation hosting the conference to facilitate the formation of this eastern power—is a predominantly Roman Catholic nation.

Arab Company to Run Six U.S. Ports.  A United Arab Emirates company is preparing to take over operations at six American ports, including New York, Baltimore, Miami and New Orleans. The $6.8 billion deal would put these vital U.S. ports into the hands of a nation that has facilitated terrorist activity.  Although some are upset by the deal, those in charge see little risk to the U.S. (Associated Press, Feb. 11, 2006).  This move could play into events prophesied to impact Israelite nations at the end of the age, “The alien who is among you shall rise higher and higher above you, and you shall come down lower and lower” (Deut 28:43). In addition, God prophesied that Israelites would go into captivity for their disobedience—taken back to Egypt by ships (Deut 28:68).  These events could be facilitated if an Arab nation is given control of major U.S. ports—most of which are on the east coast of America.

Offended by Jesus Christ.  “According to a new grammar rule in the Netherlands and Belgium, the name ‘Christ’ will soon be written with a lower-case ‘c’... Additionally, the word ‘Jewish’, when referring to the religion, will also be spelled with a lower-case ‘j’” (Catholic News Agency, Feb. 15, 2006).  For years we have understood Belgium and the Netherlands to be descended from the ancient tribes of Israel.  Isaiah prophesied that these nations would find Christ to be a “stone of stumbling” and “a rock of offense” and that, as a consequence, these nations will be broken and taken into captivity (Isa. 8:12-15, 9:8-21).—Scott Winnail, Rod King, Jim Price

02/17/06 p.m. In his latest commentary, LCG's Carl Ponder writes:

Recently someone said to me, “I still have doubts and unanswered questions about being under the law, the Ten Commandments, and also under God's grace. Much of Tomorrow's World’s interpretations and teachings make perfect sense, but it is so difficult to be de-programmed [of this world’s wrong teachings]!”

She went on to say she wanted more biblical proof that we should obey God’s Ten Commandments, especially the command to worship God on the day He says we should.

I liked her attitude of skepticism. The Bible says we should “prove all things.”

It is indeed hard to shake false teachings which have been ingrained in us all of our lives. Many false ministers have done a very clever job – of twisting primarily the writings of the Apostle Paul – to make it sound as if we do not have to keep God’s Commandments. Peter rightly said of Paul’s writings, “in which are some things hard to understand, which untaught and unstable people twist to their own destruction, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures” (2 Peter 3:16).

You can click here for the complete commentary.

Here are some scripture-packed articles on the ten commandments:

Were the Ten Commandments in Effect Before Mount Sinai? Some have said not. This article provides biblical quotes to answer this important question.
Job and the Ten Commandments Was Job written prior to Mount Sinai? Did Job know about the ten commandments? This article provides biblical answers to those questions.
What Did Jesus Teach About the Ten Commandments? This article quotes what Jesus actually said about them (His words are in red).
Were the Ten Commandments Nailed to the Cross? Some have said so. This article provides some biblical quotes to answer this important question.
What Did Paul Actually Teach About the Ten Commandments? Many say Paul taught against the ten commandments. Is this true? This article quotes Paul with his words in green.

Are the Ten Commandment Still in Effect? This article quotes the ten commandments and combines some of the previous articles into one article about the ten commandments. The commandments are shown at Mount Sinai, before Mount Sinai, in the teachings of Jesus, after the crucifixion, and in the teachings of Paul. It addresses the most common "traditions of men" regarding them as well.
Were the Pharisees Condemned for Keeping the Law? Many believe that, but what does your Bible say? If they were not condemned for that, what were they condemned for?

The Ten Commandments Reflect Love, Breaking them is Evil Some feel that the ten commandments are a burden. Is that what Jesus, Paul, Peter, James, and John taught?
Was the Commandment to Love the Only Command? Some have stated that John's writings teach this, but is that what the Bible really says?

02/12/06 a.m. Here is the latest update from Douglas Winnail. In it, he mentions recent trips, income issues, media, position on military service, and the Passover. He also wrote the following:

Warnings about false teachers. Jesus warned at the beginning of His ministry, “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing” (Matthew 7:15-23) and again at the end of His ministry, “many will come in My name… and deceive many” (Matthew 24:3-4, 15, 24).  Peter and Paul warned about false teachers who would trouble the Church, promote divisions and seek followers by preaching their own unique mix of doctrinal ideas (I Corinthians 1:10-17; 11:17-19; II Corinthians 11:1-4; Galatians 1:6-9; 6:12; I Thessalonians 1:6; I Timothy 1:3-7; 4:1-5).  Peter predicted that presumptuous and self-willed false teachers would promote destructive heresies that would attract many followers (II Peter 2).  Some may assume that it is impossible for “the elect” to be deceived, but if that were true, there would be no need for all these warnings. In recent years we have witnessed an explosion of self-proclaimed prophets, apostles and teachers both in and outside the Church of God.  However, God has also provided biblical directions to provide guidance through these challenging times.  Jesus said leaders will be known ‘by their fruits”—by their track record (Matthew 7:16).  They must speak according to the Scriptures and not put their own twist on isolated verses (Isaiah 8:20; II Peter 3:16).  They must teach “the whole counsel of God” (Acts 20:25-27) and hold fast to what they have been taught (I Thessalonians 5:19; II Thessalonians 3:3:6).  Recognizing false teachers will also require spiritual discernment (II Timothy 1:6-7) which comes as a result of nourishing God’s Spirit.  These are important tools that God provides to help us avoid being deceived by false teachers.

NEWS AND PROPHECY—February 9, 2006

Cartoons Trigger International Crisis.   The world reaction to Danish cartoons depicting Muhammad as a leader of violence has spawned violent reactions among Muslims and produced sudden realignments in Europe and the Middle East. European nations friendly to the Middle East are recoiling under attacks by infuriated Muslims.  Oft-squabbling European nations are now standing together with Danes and Norwegians against what they perceive as an Islamic onslaught.  Previously internally-divided Islamic nations, split between Shiites and Sunnis, are now rallying together in defense of Muhammad.  Secular/Christian Europe and the Islamic Middle East are taking opposing positions, “the long-standing chasm between the West and the world of Islam is getting wider.  It may even be heading toward a civilizational war” (The Charlotte Observer, Feb. 9, 2006. See Daniel 11:41-65). In the Middle East, the Syrians, Lebanese, Hamas in Gaza, and the more powerful Iran, are seeking center-stage as the defender of Islam. In Europe, Germany is front and center with Chancellor Merkel pointedly commenting, “Iran is not just a threat to Israel, but also to the democratic countries of this world” (Deutsche Welle online, Feb. 6, 2006).  Writer George Friedman notes,  “there is something exceedingly odd in the notion that Denmark -- which has made a national religion of not being offensive to anyone -- could become the focal point of Muslim rage” (Stratfor: Geopolitical Intelligence Report, Feb. 7, 2006). This traditionally quiet nation, along with Norway, is suddenly at the center of a fray that is working to unify Europe and polarize it against the Islamic Middle East—a situation long predicted in the Scriptures (See Daniel 11:41-45)

Hastening the Return of a Muslim Messiah?  The current President of Iran, Dr. Ahmadinejad, is a Ph.D. in engineering and former Revolutionary Guardsman.  He is also a member of an obscure Shiite sect that eagerly anticipates the return of the 12th Imam or the Mahdi. His religious sect believes the righteous descendent of Muhammad will soon return and usher in universal peace, but that his return will be preceded by cosmic signs, plagues and pestilence, and war.  President Ahmadinejad apparently believes the return of this Muslim Messiah can be hastened by “the creation of chaos on earth”—something he and other religious zealots may be able to facilitate through their actions and influence (Washington Times online, Feb. 6, 2006). Iran views itself as the defender of Islam, and Ahmadinejad appears to see himself as the great catalyst. It remains to be seen whether he or some other yet-to-emerge leader will bring to pass the prophesied conflict between the king of the north and the king of the south (Daniel 11:41-45).

Origins of the Great War of 2007—And How It Could Have Been Prevented. In a poignant and sobering commentary, Niall Ferguson, a British historian and Harvard University professor, opens with the question “Are we living through the origins of the next world war?” He then speculates on how historians “might” one day look back on our time in history (The Independent, Jan. 15, 2006).  It is sobering that not only does the Bible point to our time as the “last days,” but people without an understanding of Bible prophecy also see “the handwriting on the wall” and recognize the ominous threat of a “clash of civilizations” that is facing the world today.  The question is, do we see “the handwriting on the wall” or will we be caught sleeping – by failing to watch? (see Matthew 25:1-13).—Scott Winnail, Daniel Bennett, Glen Gilchrist

02/06/06 a.m. In his latest commentary, LCG's Martin Fannin stated:

Can people take care of their environment – can they be good stewards of the land and other resources? Yes they can, if they practice the way of love toward God and love toward neighbor and reject the harmful way of indulgent self-interest that ultimately isn’t good for “self” or anyone else!...

In general, mankind has always shown the proclivity to abuse and misuse the natural resources and to pollute the environment. They have done this with little or no thought for the present, much less the future. However, a change is coming – a change generated by the return of Jesus Christ. Revelation 11:18 tell us that when Christ returns, He will destroy them that destroy the earth. (Read our encouraging Tomorrow’s World magazine article How will the Earth Be Restored?)

In Acts 3:19-21 we read about a restitution or restoring of all things after Christ’s return. Then, waste places and deserts will become like the Garden of Eden (Isaiah 51: 3). Finally human beings will listen to God, their Creator and do what they should have done from the beginning. That is, to “dress and keep the garden.” When this is done, it will be a blessing to mankind and all creation.

NEWS AND PROPHECY—February 2, 2006

EU Extends Aid to Palestinians in Bid to Prevent “Mini-Iran.” “EU foreign ministers meeting on Monday [Jan. 30] agreed to continue aid to the Palestinian Authority under strict conditions put to election winner Hamas, fearing a complete cut-off of funding will create room for Iran to step in” (EUobserver.com, Feb. 1, 2006). EU leaders fear that should the EU cut off funding, Iran and Saudi Arabia might step in and become the major funders of the Palestinian cause. Europeans are cautious because they fear a potential radical Islamist movement could easily center itself in Palestinian areas. Prophetically we know that Europe also must continue to keep its “hand” in the area of Jerusalem and will work to prevent Arab rule in this area. Hamas recently rejected demands by the big 5 (Germany, France, Britain, China and the US) to avoid violent conflict and recognize Israel’s right to exist.

Growing Rift Between The North and The South. “Controversial drawings of the Muslim prophet Mohammed published last autumn by a Danish newspaper have led the EU into a spat with parts of the Muslim world, with gunmen gathering before the Union’s Gaza headquarters on Monday.” Hamas has also called on Islamic nations to boycott Danish goods in reaction to the publication of the drawings of Mohammed. The EU recently became involved in the debate and unanimously agreed that freedom of the press was a cornerstone of the EU, thus supporting Denmark. Earlier this week Saudi Arabia recalled its ambassador to Denmark and religious leaders called for a boycott of Danish goods. In a recent meeting between a Saudi Arabian and EU trade officials, the EU stated that any boycott of Danish products would be seen as a boycott of the EU itself and would require referral to the World Trade Organization (EUobserver.com, Feb. 1, 2006). The Arab League Secretary General recently characterized the European press as being anti-Islam (Middle East Times Online, Feb. 1, 2006). Tensions between Europe and the Muslim world continue to escalate, just as is prophesied in the pages of our Bible (Daniel 11).

Powder-Keg in Gaza. Since Hamas’ election last week, the Palestinian situation has worsened. Violence has escalated against both Hamas and ex-Fatah officials. Israel voted to stop paying customs taxes to the Palestinian Authority – about US$50 million annually, which supports more than 135,000 civil government employees including police. The current president, Mahmoud Abbas, recently stated that he would not form a government with Hamas unless it stopped its violence and recognized Israel’s right to exist—a 180-degree departure from Hamas’ traditional stance. In reality Abbas cannot form a government without Hamas, which now holds the majority of seats in the government (TimesOnline.com, Feb. 1, 2006). A power vacuum appears to be forming within the Palestinian Authority, which is having a major cashflow problem with salaries for government employees, including the police. Who will step in and stabilize the situation?

Powerful Words from Venezuela. “CARACAS, Venezuela—The World Social Forum ended in Venezuela, with President Hugo Chavez warning that to remain relevant, the annual gathering must take bolder steps, such as addressing the role of militaries in defending against U.S. imperialism. ‘Down with the U.S. empire!,’ he said to rousing applause from activists Sunday…”  The 6-day forum drew more than 70,000 participants from around the world, according to organizers, although most were from Venezuela (Associated Press, Feb. 1, 2006). President Chavez’s comments reflect a growing worldwide movement not only against the U.S., but also against western nations that might be associated with or seem similar to the U.S.Scott Winnail, Daniel Bennett

02/02/06 a.m. LCG reports:

What exactly is the kingdom of God? What will Christians do when they are part of that kingdom? Can we know? How can we know? The Word of God makes it clear that Jesus Christ will soon return to rule the nations of this world—and that today’s Christians will play a special part in His kingdom!

01/29/06 a.m. Here is the latest update from Dibar Apartian. In it, he mentions Kenya, the upcoming ministerial conference, new approaches to increase getting our message out, the 2006 budget, Kansas family weekend, three internation updates (which I will show below), love, and some news items.

Here are the international updates:

Caribbean Update. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Shumway left last Tuesday for Barbados for a church visit.  They will be returning home next Tuesday. Mr. Clyde Skeete of our Barbados office reports that our caller statistical information shows that the percentage of new callers responding to our telecast is very high—in the vicinity of 30%. For the months of October and November, the total responses were 522, including 210 new callers.

Trip to Indonesia. Mr. and Mrs. Rajan Moses visited Indonesia last December. A total of 20 members attended Sabbath services, followed by lunch together with the brethren and a Question and Answer session in the afternoon. During this visit, Mr. Moses baptized three people.

Australia Update. According to Mr. Bruce Tyler a recent Tomorrow’s World program presented by Mr. Meredith generated 20 new visit requests in Australia. Mr. Tyler writes: “All the ministers will be busy visiting these folk in the coming weeks. Not all these people are planted in ‘good ground’ and it remains to be seen just how many will produce good fruit. Of course it is now our job to water the crop and see then just what increase God gives.” Mr. Tyler also informs us that the response to Mr. Meredith’s November semi-annual letter finished up being 18% in his region.  “The organization for the Australia church office move to Adelaide,” he added, “continues to be on track. It appears that we are being very well received in the community. We are looking forward to further growth in 2006, especially after everyone is ‘settled.’”

Here is one of the news items:

ESA Signs Galileo Contract. “The European Space Agency (ESA) and Galileo Industries have formally signed a contract to develop the ambitious navigation system [recently launching a test satellite into orbit]. Europe hopes this will rival the reigning US GPS network” (Deutsche Welle on-line, Jan. 20, 2006). Europe’s plan with the Galileo project is to eventually place 30 satellites in space, totally weaning Europe from the need to use U.S. GPS satellites that are controlled by the U.S. military. Additionally, the Galileo project is expected to create more than 100,000 jobs and 250 billion euros in European revenue by 2020. Much of this revenue will be enjoyed by Germany, home to the Galileo project European headquarters.

I believe that this Galileo project will give the EU just enough military capability that it will be able to launch somewhat of a surprise attack (somewhat, because some will probably figure it out, though most in the leadership will probably not) against the US etc.

01/26/06 a.m. LCG's latest commentary is by RC Meredith and is entitled Herbert W. Armstrong remembered which states:

Mr. Armstrong was certainly a man of tremendous vision, big mindedness, faith, courage and dedication to preaching the full Truth of the Bible. That is undoubtedly a major reason why Christ said of the Philadelphians, “You have a little strength, have kept my word and have not denied my name” (Rev. 3:8). Mr. Armstrong also was guided by God to set the highest priority in going through the “open doors” of preaching the Gospel and trying with all his might to have the greatest possible impact on the world to help them know God’s purpose.

The above verse also refers to the “open door” which God granted Mr. Armstrong, and which He is still granting us today—although to a somewhat lesser extent as we are, probably, the “left over Philadelphians” but actually within the time frame when the “Laodicean spirit” is most dominant.

01/22/06 a.m. Here is the latest update from Douglas Winnail. In it, he mentions tapings and responses to the telecast, a visit to Texas, and becoming a peacemaker.

He also included this report:

NEWS AND PROPHECY—January 19, 2006

EU Trio Drafts Resolution to Refer Iran to UN. “The EU’s big three (Germany, France and Britain) have taken the first steps to refer Iran to the UN security council over its nuclear program, with Russian president Vladimir Putin indicating he is prepared to back the move – but Beijing is not on board yet.” The big three asked for an “emergency meeting of the board of the International Atomic Energy Agency” (Euobserver.com, Jan. 17, 2006). More recently France and the US have rejected a request by Iran to “discuss” the situation (Associated Press as reported in USA Today, Jan. 18, 2006). The once friendly relationship between Europe and Tehran was broken by recent holocaust-denial/anti-Semitic comments by the Iranian President and the reopening of Iranian nuclear facilities. Prophecy marches on as Iran maneuvers to be the head of the radical Islamic movement and the relationship between Europe and the Arab world becomes more polarized (Dan. 11:40-45).

Catholics and Jews Come Together.  “Pope Benedict XVI strongly condemned anti-Semitism, and called for cooperation between Jews and Christians in defending fundamental moral principles, as he met on January 16 with the chief rabbi of Rome. During the audience Rabbi Riccardo Di Segni invited the Pope to visit Rome’s synagogue, repeating the historic visit by Pope John Paul II in April 1986” (CWNews.com [Catholic World News], Jan. 16, 2006). The Vatican has long had its eye on Jerusalem. A Vatican advisor recently commented on how Jerusalem is too important a city to leave in the hands of either Palestinians or Jews and should be placed under international control (jnewswire.com [Jerusalem Newswire], Jan. 8, 2006).  Are we seeing a developing relationship that will enable the Catholic Church and the EU to gain a controlling presence in Jerusalem that will facilitate the beginning of sacrifices on the Temple Mount (Dan. 9:26-27; Dan. 11:31; Mt. 24:15-16)?  Will the departure of Ariel Sharon create a middle-eastern void that Rome and the EU will fill?

Palestinian-South African Relationship Deepens.  Palestine’s ambassador to South Africa recently extended an invitation to the President of South Africa, Thabo Mbeki, to aid in the peace process between Palestine and Israel. The ambassador asked for South African involvement as soon as the Palestinian elections (Mail & Guardian Online [South Africa], Jan. 18, 2006). Palestinians greatly desire the “return” of their land and equal vote with the Israelis. The Palestinians, who already enjoy the support of the EU, continue to seek international support for their cause.  Might they also reach to Rome for support in the future—which would aid the EU and the Vatican to become directly involved in the Middle East situation (see again Dan. 11:40-45)?

America’s Apologetic Leaders.  New Orleans mayor Ray Nagin apologized Tuesday for recent comments which included “He [God] sent us hurricane after hurricane after hurricane, and it’s destroyed and put stress on this country” (The Daily Telegraph [Australia], Jan. 18, 2006). Mr. Nagin’s comments focused on the American occupation in Iraq as well as black-on-black violence in America’s cities. On Tuesday (Jan. 17) Mr. Nagin apologized for his “insensitive” comments, noting that the comments about God were inappropriate (Charlotte Observer, Jan. 18, 2006). After the September 11, 2001 catastrophe in New York City, American televangelist Pat Robertson made similar comments about God punishing America for its sins. Shortly afterward, Mr. Robertson rescinded his comments. Political correctness and a strong aversion to anything Christian have pressured those who “would” condemn the ungodly actions of the United States and other western nations into remaining silent, or into denying the very Christ they profess to worship. Christ promised that if we deny Him, He would deny us before the Father, and this is exactly what we are witnessing in the U.S. and throughout many Christian nations around the globe (Mt. 10:33).—Scott Winnail and Daniel Bennett

01/19/06 a.m. In the latest posted Tomorrow's World telecast titled America's Moral Meltdown, LCG's Richard Ames states:

Great nations often reflect great character and purpose. But when their morals and values decline and decay their days and years are numbered. How incredible it is when states and nations reject the Ten Commandments. We even prohibit posting the Ten Commandments in our public buildings. Amazingly, even many religious people approve of immoral, sinful conduct and behavior. Are we in the western world headed toward a moral meltdown?

01/15/06 a.m. Here is the latest update from Douglas Winnail. In it, he mentions the upcoming co-worker letter, 2005 income increase, and a spring family weekend for March 3-4, 2006 is planned in Chattanooga. He closed with a discussion on Keys to Joy and Happiness.

NEWS AND PROPHECY—January 12, 2006

World ‘Losing Patience’ With Iran. United Nations nuclear watchdog chairman Mohamed ElBaradei commented about his frustration in attempting to draw clear conclusions on Iran’s intent to resume nuclear energy research. More recently (Monday, Jan. 9, 2005) Iran moved to resume testing by reopening nuclear test facilities. ElBaradei commented on Iran’s inability to comply with the UN: “I am running out of patience, the international community is running out of patience…” (Mail & Guardian Online [South Africa], 9 Jan., 2006). While politically volatile Iran works to gain nuclear technology (with the help of Russia), distrust of and impatience with this nation grows, among the US, Israel, and even European nations. Prophetically speaking, world events must involve the growth of a middle eastern movement (King of the South), but events must also happen in such a way that a future King of the North will become more polarized and opposed to this southern force (Dan 11). We should all continue to watch these events with interest and humility.

Rebirth of the Russian Superpower? Russia possesses the world’s largest gas reserves and the eighth largest oil reserves. “Russia believes it can regain some of its lost Soviet-era power by carving out a new role for itself as a natural resources superpower” (The Independent, 2 Jan., 2006). “Gazprom [Russian state-owned gas company] has declared its intention to control up to 10 percent of the gas supply to the US by 2015, as well as up to, if not more than, 30 percent of the European gas market…” This is “one battle in an unending struggle for global power and influence. The key weapon in the battle lines now being drawn is energy” (The Times, 27 Dec., 2005). Watch the continuing regionalization of power around the globe in light of Bible prophecy. Daniel talks about “news from the north and east” troubling the King of the North (Dan. 11:44) in the near future. In the words of journalist David Montagu-Smith, “Perhaps we should be concerned when Russia and China seem to be coming to recognize the scale of opportunity that a strategic partnership can offer them in terms of energy security and global influence?” (The Times, 27 Dec., 2005).

The US Economy: Is it Booming?  Monday, the US economic stability measure, The Dow Jones Industrial Average, surged past the 11,000 mark for the first time in 4.5 years. (USA Today, Jan. 10, 2006). Late last week, the latest US unemployment figures were released and proved to be the lowest rate in more than five years (Yahoo News, Jan. 5, 2006). These indicators combine to give many economists the “feeling” that the US economy is still sound, despite rising inflation, falling home sales, an exploding trade deficit and national debt, and rising energy costs. But are these recent events (Rising Dow and dropping unemployment) just an illusion of economic stability? Some sources are suggesting so. One source forecasts that 2006 will show the greatest devaluation of the American dollar in recent history, as well as unprecedented and unbridled inflation (Weiss, Safe Money Report, Jan. 2006). Our Bible tells us to WATCH, because the return of Christ will come as a Thief in the Night – when people least expect Him (I Thes. 5:2). Positive economic indicators in many Israelite-descended nations may continue for a time, but we must pray and watch so that we are not caught off guard like the Foolish Virgins of Matthew 25.

The English Inquisition. “Eighty-minute police interrogation for couple who dared to suggest displaying Christian literature next to gay leaflets in a town hall. A retired couple were questioned at length by police after complaining about a council’s gay rights campaign” and accused of acting in a way that was “close to a hate crime” (Daily Mail, Dec. 23, 2005). Most modern nations pride themselves on their laws of free speech and allow free speech to occur… unless that speech begins to disagree with ideals of non-Christians. Isaiah prophesied (Isa. 5:20) of a time, at the end of the age, when people would “…call evil good and good evil, that put darkness for light and light for darkness, that put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter” – basically turning right and wrong upside down. Is there any question that we are living in this prophesied end-time?—Scott Winnail, Daniel Bennett

Brussels Plans to Raid Wages: Pay Your Tax Direct to Europe.  “Britons [and all Europeans] will be forced to pay a crippling European Union tax under a shock plan revealed yesterday” (Daily Express, December 21, 2005).  In an attempt to avoid reoccurring budget battles, EU leaders want to bypass governments and have EU citizens make tax payments directly into EU coffers.  If adopted, this move “would effectively end centuries of British sovereignty and sideline the Westminster Parliament.”  Not surprisingly, this proposal was “greeted with outrage” in Britain, with cries of “no taxation without representation” and warnings of a modern-day Boston Tea Party!  If ratified, this proposal would force Europeans to turn over more of their sovereignty to a central European government—just as prophesied in Revelation 17:12-13.

Russia Threatens to Shut off Europe’s Gas.  A recent conflict over price between a Russian company, Gazprom, and the Ukraine exposed the danger of Europe’s growing dependency on foreign energy supplies.  About 25% of Europe’s natural gas comes from Russia through the Ukraine (The Times, December 15, 2005).  The recent crisis alerted EU leaders that energy dependence is more than an economic issue—it is also a European security issue (EUobserver.com, January 4, 2006).  As Europe looks beyond Russia to secure its energy, the potential for competition and conflict with the United States, Russia and China over the energy resources in the Middle East and around the Caspian Sea will increase (see Daniel 11:40-45; Revelation 9:13-21).

2005—A Record Year of Extreme Weather:  “It is not just your imagination.  America’s weather went wild this year…Extremes were everywhere…It was the third worst year for U.S. extreme-weather events in history…behind only 1998…and 1934” (The Charlotte Observer, December 30, 2005).  Britain’s Queen Elizabeth also drew attention to extreme weather and other disasters in her year-end message—calling the devastating tsunami that struck countries around the Indian Ocean “one of the worst natural disasters ever recorded…the vicious hurricanes across the Caribbean…the inundation of the city of New Orleans…and the massive earthquake in Pakistan and India” (csmail.compuserve.com).  As 2006 begins, floods and landslides plague California, grass fires burn in arid Oklahoma and millions face famine in East Africa (The Charlotte Observer, December 31, 2005).  Many of these weather extremes appear related to the growing phenomena of global warming.  Jesus said disastrous events would increase as the end of the age approaches (Matthew 24:7-8).

United States—The Axis of Evil?  “Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez and Bolivian president-elect Evo Morales met yesterday to consolidate ties between socialist soulmates united in their opposition to Washington…Chavez, who accuses U.S. officials of working to overthrow him, has become one of Washington’s most vocal critics and has signed scores of energy and trade deals with South American partners to counter U.S. influences in the region… ‘You know who is the axis of evil?’  Washington, they are the axis of evil, and their allies in the world who threaten, invade, who kill and assassinate, we are forming an axis of good,’ Chavez said” (Jamaica Gleaner [online], January 4, 2006).  The Scriptures have long prophesied that hatred would build against Israelite nations as we approach the end of the age (see Matthew 24:9; Leviticus 26:19). Scott Winnail, Daniel Bennett

Paying taxes directly to the EU would mark a major shift, and would make the EU more of a "United States of Europe"--a term that HW Armstrong used in the late 1940s to describe what he felt the Bible indicated must happen in Europe.

01/05/06 a.m. What Would Jesus Do? It is a slogan found on bracelets, hats and other youth accessories. But for most, it is just a fad, a gimmick or a fashion statement. Very few seem to want to know the answer to the question. What would Jesus do—and what should we do in response?

LCG's RC Meredith has an article about that at http://www.lcg.org/cgi-bin/tw/magazine/tw-mag.cgi?category=Magazine17&item=1104101990

01/01/06 a.m. Here is the latest update from Douglas Winnail. In it, he mentions the upcoming ministerial conference, media, and general planning.

He also includes these news items:

Wars and Rumors of Wars:  Thomas Nichols, a professor at the U.S. Naval War College makes these sobering comments, “We are entering a new age of preventive war…the growing acceptance of preventive uses of military force…threatens to undermine coordinated attempts to battle terrorists and contain rogue states, and will render the United Nations even  more irrelevant…The most worrisome possibility would be the rapid abandonment of international institutions by states strong enough to act…in such a world, the preventive use of force would be essentially ungoverned and ungovernable… This outcome represents a world in which international institutions have lost any ability to control the use of force…with catastrophic results” (World Policy Journal, Fall 2005).  Professor Nichols is describing world conditions that Jesus predicted would arise at the end of the age (see Matthew 24:6-12, 21-22; Revelation 6:4).

Germany Taking Center Stage in Europe:  “German chancellor Angela Merkel has been crowned the queen of the EU budget by the European press, with tabloid Bild am Sonntag calling her ‘Miss Europe’ and broadsheet FAZ splashing ‘Angela Merkel impresses Europe’ on its front page” (EUobserver, December 28, 2005).  Also called the “Secret President of the EU,” Ms Merkel tactfully cut through a French/British impasse over the EU budget this week.  Chancellor Merkel, a physicist-turned-politician from East Germany, is gaining credibility and becoming a quiet powerhouse on the European scene.  Germany’s star seems to be on the rise again as German politicians jockey to become the leaders of an emerging European superstate—as prophesied in Daniel 2:33, 41-44 and Revelation 13:3-7; 17:12-13.  This fragile, but influential superpower will be a serious threat to Israelite nations (Isaiah 10:5-11).

UK Energy Crisis Brewing:  The UK (like the USA) is increasingly dependent upon foreign oil.  By 2010, the UK’s North Sea oil/gas reserves will supply only about 60% of the nation’s needs (Time, December 20, 2005).  A recent massive explosion and fire at an oil terminal north of London has stressed the British petrol industry (The Times, December 12, 2005).  Spain and Italy have been accused of contributing to shortages of natural gas in the UK by hording supplies for themselves and have been reprimanded by Brussels for not implementing EU directives (EUobserver, November 29, 2005).  Britain is being weakened internally and marginalized from Europe while Brussels exerts more power over once sovereign European countries (see Revelation 13:3-7; 17:12-13).

Bird Flu Peril:  In December, the China Daily ran 16 separate articles on Bird Flu, and both China and the USA are developing vaccines to combat this impending epidemic (ChinaDaily.com, December 28, 2005).  Meanwhile, Turkey reported another outbreak of Bird Flu within its borders (NewYorkTimes.com, December 28, 2005).  The virus has not yet mutated to the point of human-to-human spread, but world governments are gearing up for what they perceive to be an inevitable development.  The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently released guidelines for families, businesses and communities to deal with this threat (see CDC.gov, December 28, 2005).  World wide disease epidemics are one of the prophesied signs of the end of the age (Matthew 24:7).  Scott Winnail, Daniel Bennett

12/31/05 a.m. In the latest on-line telecast, RC Meredith states:

Where are we headed as the year 2006 begins? How will your life be changed this year? Can you really know what lies ahead? Can you prove your ideas and your feelings? There is a way to be sure! There is a way to build confidence to the future.

12/27/05 a.m. Here is information from last week's update from Dibar Apartian. I have not linked to the actual update as I am still not home (I have been on the East coast for the past 9 days) and I do not have my usual html program with me: Mr. Richard Ames recorded two new television programs this week: Program #269, “God’s Power in History,” which offers the booklet How God Intervenes in World Affairs, and Program #270, “Dealing with Stress,” which offers the audiotape Overcoming Your Anxieties and Vital Keys to Happiness. Mr. Wayne Pyle reports that last weekend’s program, “The Future of Jerusalem,” which offered The Middle East in Prophecy booklet, was very successful. We are expecting the final number of responses for the booklet to reach 2,690. This booklet “has been offered on the telecast in six previous airings. The responses ranged from 1,942 to 2,770, averaging 2,373 per program. This week’s response is projecting to be the second highest”... “Brussels bites back.” Centralization of power in the EU continues as commercial aviation, genetic research, defense, energy, immigration, criminal justice, and counter-terrorism policies and laws are all coming under greater control of the EU in Brussels, while EU nations give up more and more of their independence (The Spectator Magazine, 26 Nov., 2005, p. 14, 16). In Revelation 13:4, God prophesies that ten nations will give their “authority to the Beast” and worship the dragon. Although there are currently more than 10 European nations involved, these nations are continuing to give more and more of their own “authority” and “power” to a centralized European government, making possible the fulfillment of future prophecies about the Beast of Revelation. “Delegation from World Methodist Council Visits Pope.” On 9 November, Pope Benedict XVI received representatives from the World Methodist Council, led by their president, Bishop Sunday Mbang of the Methodist Church of Nigeria. “Benedict XVI expressed his appreciation for ‘the initiative which would bring the member churches of the World Methodist Council into association with the Joint Declaration on the Doctrine of Justification, signed by the Catholic Church and the Lutheran World Federation in 1999.” This, he said, will “assist in contributing to the healing and reconciliation we ardently desire, and would be a significant step towards the stated goal of full visible unity in faith" (Vatican Information Service, 9 Nov., 2005). For years the Catholic church has referred to the Protestant churches as “lost daughters” who are supposed to make their way back to the “mother church” – Rev. 17:5 uses similar phraseology referring to the “Mother of Harlots.” Isaiah 47:8 refers to this “mother” who shall no longer sit as a widow who will “no longer know the loss of children.” When we understand God’s prophecies regarding both the disobedient modern descendants of ancient Israel, as well as the prophesied influence of the Catholic Church in the end-times, the recent meeting between the Pope and the leadership of the Methodist church appears very significant. “Iran uses tunnels to hide atomic work: exiles.” “LONDON - An Iranian exile group on Tuesday called on the UN’s atomic watchdog to inspect an extensive network of tunnels which it says the Islamic Republic has built to conceal a clandestine nuclear weapons programme. The National Council of Resistance of Iran… (whose previously provided information has been accurate), said their sources in Iran had evidence of underground complexes in 14 locations, near Teheran, Isfahan, Qom and other cities” (Reported by Reuters in Khaleej Times Online [United Arab Emirates], 20 Dec., 2005). The new Iranian president, who recently banned all “western” music, including classical music, said the holocaust is a “myth,” and called for Israel to be “wiped off the map,” now is known to be defiantly and secretly developing nuclear and other weapons technology. How far will the sphere of influence of this President and his nation extend in the Middle East? Are we watching the beginnings of the cohesion process of the King of the South prophesied in Daniel 11? “House moves for all-digital television by Feb. 2009.” “WASHINGTON (AP) — House lawmakers approved legislation early Monday that would complete the transition to all-digital television broadcasts by Feb. 17, 2009.” (USAToday Online, 19 Dec., 2005). As technology advances, the Church and our TV production capabilities must keep pace. These technological advances are exciting, but also come with a cost. Please pray that God will continue to provide the human and monetary resources to continue preaching the Gospel throughout the world.

NEWS & PROPHECY

Building the Beast:  Belgian leader proposes “United States of Europe.”  Belgium Prime Minister, Guy Verhofstadt, has issued a call for a federal “United States of Europe” in a recently published book by the same title.  He feels the people of Europe “do not want less Europe, but a different Europe” with fewer unnecessary regulations and more clout in foreign affairs.  Mr. Vorhofstadt envisions an inner core of 12 nations that have adopted the euro as the “United States of Europe” and an outer circle of closely affiliated states as the “Organization of European States.”  By proposing a “concrete architecture” for a different Europe the prime minister wants “a more deeply integrated Europe, which could make a fist in the globalized world, boost the European economy…and fight organized crime.”  Mr. Vorhofstadt sees the move towards a United States of Europe following a path similar to the emergence of the United States of America and “that the direction indicated by history is crystal clear” (euobserver.com, December 5, 2005).  This proposal is very similar to the direction indicated by Bible prophecy—that 10 nations will surrender their sovereignty to a strong leader in Europe and form a “beast power” just before the return of Jesus Christ (see Revelation 17:12-14; Daniel 2:40-44).

Consolidating Power in Europe:  Brussel’s Laws and Data Bases.  EU officials in Brussels have unveiled detailed plans to create criminal laws that would force member states to punish anyone who breaks those laws.  Member states would lose their right to decide what constitutes a crime in their own country.  The European Commission also wants to create a “pan-European finger data base, a European DNA data base, and registers of all EU citizens and of all EU travel documents, to which law enforcement agencies would be given access”  (The Times, November 24 & 24, 2005).  This spreading power of government in Europe has been feared by many as one aspect of the “mark of the beast” that will shock the world as it emerges at the end of this age (Revelation 13:16-18).

Stirring up the Middle East:  Iran President says Put Israel in EuropeIran’s hard-liner president, who has called for Israel’s destruction, said Thursday that the Jewish state should be moved to Europe if the West wants to make up for the Holocaust.  The remarks drew an angry reaction from Israeli officials, Jewish leaders and the United States” (The Charlotte Observer, December 9, 2005).  This is the same man who has charged on several occasions that the Holocaust is a “myth” that has been used for creating a Jewish state in the heart of the Muslim world.  These inflammatory charges have angered many Europeans.  Biblical prophecies have long warned that Jerusalem and its environs will be a bone of contention in the last days—which will eventually lead to armed intervention in the Middle East by a European power (see Zechariah 12:3; Daniel 11:40-44).

12/14/05 p.m. In his latest co-worker letter, LCG's R.C. Meredith writes:

The bipartisan commission assigned to make recommendations to improve our national security has given a failing grade to the slow and ineffective response from the Congress and the President to their recommendations. Many, many other facets of our national malaise could be cited. But most important of all is the vital fact that the moral fibre of our people is being destroyed by the consistent efforts of the Great Deceiver, Satan the Devil. Throughout most of the English-speaking world, the increase in venereal diseases, in couples living together in fornication, in the persistent push for so-called "homosexual marriage" or its equivalent, in lies, crimes and unethical conduct at the highest level, in teenage drug use and alcoholism—all these problems and many more are pervasive and many are becoming more severe almost every year.

No wonder Jesus Christ tells us to constantly pray, "Thy Kingdom come!" That coming reality is indeed our hope and our prayer. And it is important for all of us involved in this Work of the living God to realize that—in spite of all the above problems—in the end we win! So as Jesus said, after reciting a number of the end-time prophetic events, "Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near" (Luke 21:28). Indeed, brethren and co-workers, we in this Work have every reason to "lift up our heads," and be thankful to God and to the living Jesus Christ for all the things that He is allowing us to accomplish in preparation for His coming Kingdom!

12/11/05 a.m. Here is the latest update from Douglas Winnail. In it, he mentions plans for a conference, as well as growth in the Philippines subscriber list.

He also included these general news items:

NEWS & PROPHECY

EU gains foothold in Middle East:  Israel wants EU to secure Gaza border.  “The EU has been set a major foreign policy challenge following a request by the Israeli government to monitor the Egyptian-Gaza border, with EU officials to have real enforcement capacities…The Israelis, which traditionally have been wary of EU involvement in its relations with the Palestinians, have now for the first time turned their eyes to Brussels to play a concrete role in the Middle East peace process…European politicians have frequently said the EU should be prepared to take greater responsibility in facilitating the Middle East peace process” (EUobserver.com, Nov. 2, 2005).  Bible prophecies indicate that a revived European power with links to the Roman Empire will forcefully move into the Middle East at the end of the age (see Daniel 11:40-45).

Germany to promote United EuropeFuture German presidency to revive EU constitution.  “The new German government plans to use its 2007 presidency of the EU to revive the ratification of the EU constitution, according to a coalition deal struck on Friday…The coalition deal revives plans for a ratification of the EU constitution, which was put on ice by EU leaders in June following a rejection of the new treaty by French and Dutch voters” (EUobserver.com, Nov. 14, 2005).  Bible prophecy has long predicted the emergence of a “beast” composed of 10 nations in Europe, who “are of one mind, and they will give their power and authority to the beast” (Revelation 17:13).  This beast will put in place the mechanisms to exert great power and authority over many nations.  This power may not be used immediately, but will be used at some point.

Pride of power broken:  China places $10 billion Airbus order.  China has placed orders for 150 Airbus A320 airliners, more than twice as many as rival Boeing won from China last month.  Airbus, the European aircraft manufacturer, said the deal was worth nearly $10 billion (US) and was “the largest single order that Airbus has ever received since it entered the Chinese market two decades ago” (thetimesonline.co.uk, Dec. 5, 2005).  The US Boeing company, long the dominant player in the aircraft market, has been surpassed by its European competitor Airbus—just another aspect of how the pride of modern Israel is crumbling around the world (see Leviticus 26:19).

UK Moral Decline:  A new British law allows same-sex civil partnerships.  “From Brighton to Birmingham and beyond, gay and lesbian couples began registering today for the first ceremonies later this month permitting a form of same-sex marriage in Britain.  As a new law permitting what are called civil partnerships came into effect, at least 1,200 couples [including entertainer Elton John and his partner] scheduled ceremonies…in Northern Ireland…in England and Wales.  Across Europe, the Netherlands, Belgium and Spain have, like Canada, enacted laws legalizing same-sex-marriage.” France, Germany and South Africa have also enacted legislation in this same direction (newyorktimesonline.com, Dec. 5, 2005).  Many of the above-named nations are modern-day descendants of the ancient 12 tribes of Israel.  Although blessed by God for the obedience of their forefathers, they are acting totally contrary to the laws of God as outlined in the Scriptures—for which there will soon be serious consequences (see Leviticus 18:22; 20:13, 26:14-46).Scott Winnail, Daniel Bennett
