Sierra de la Ventana, Argentina

The Feast of Tabernacles 2009 in Argentina will be celebrated in Sierra de la Ventana, located on the plains of the Argentinean Pampas between two mountain ranges. Feast services and accommodations will be at the Mirador Complex (www.complejoelmirador.com.ar), situated at the foothills of a mountain range. This establishment is very close to town and offers all the conveniences for an excellent Feast, including millennial surroundings, excellent facilities, green areas for activities and good customer service. Simultaneous interpretation into English during services will be provided. The daily cost per person, including lodging, breakfast, lunch and dinner is $160 Argentine pesos (approximately USD$47, amount in dollars will vary according to the exchange rate).

Those interested in transferring to the Feast site in Argentina this year should register online through their MyLCG accounts on the Member Resources website, www.cogl.org, and contact Madeleine Lincoln-Strange at mlincoln@lcg.org or call +1-704-844-1960, ext. 217.

Our (Thiel) family has considered going here in the past and may some day.

Coffs Harbour, New South Wales, Australia

This year, the Feast of Tabernacles for all the Australian brethren will be held for the first time in Coffs Harbour in the state of New South Wales, approximately midway between the cities of Sydney and Brisbane. It is a beautiful coastal city with a variety of pristine surfing beaches and inlets, surrounded by lush forests and national parks. With a small population of 60,000, it’s an idyllic Millennial Feast location. It is easily accessed by road from Sydney, (six and a half hours of driving time), or Brisbane (four and a half hours driving time). Direct flights are also available from both these two major centers to the Coffs Harbour regional airport.

The hall for the Feast is centrally located in the Coffs Harbour Showgrounds, where we have exclusive access to the facilities for the entire Feast. We will have the opportunity to have catered meals together on both Holy Days in the room adjoining the auditorium. Most accommodations will be no more than 5 to 15 minutes away from the Showground Hall. This attractive city has a huge choice of accommodation—motels, fully self-contained apartments, rental homes, resorts, small exclusive boutique retreats, cabin and caravan parks. Prices are available to suit all budgets.

Those interested in attending the Feast in Australia this year should register online through their MyLCG accounts on the Member Resources website, www.cogl.org.

Our (Thiel) family has been to Australia for the FOT and really liked it (we went to the site when it was north of this location). This site has possibilities.

Christ Church, Barbados

The Feast of Tabernacles 2009 will once again be observed at the Barbados Beach Club, on the scenic Maxwell Coast Road in Christ Church, Barbados. Envision the coming Kingdom, while sharing the beauty and tranquility of the Island and fellowshipping with the warm Barbadian brethren. Bathe on white and fine sandy beaches, just 200 yards from the Hotel. Cruise the Caribbean Sea and swim with the turtles. Visit spectacular Harrison’s Cave or take a voyage to the bottom of the sea on the Atlantis Submarine.

For a peaceful, rejuvenating Feast, come join us! Rates at the Barbados Beach Club are all-inclusive (breakfast, lunch and dinner, and drinks throughout the day). The double occupancy rate at the Barbados Beach Club is US$95 per person, per night. Single occupancy is US$165. To make reservations at the Barbados Beach Club, call 1-246-428-9900 and request to speak to Deborah, and mention that you are with the Living Church of God. Our family has been to Barbados for the FOT and would definitely recommend it.

RED DEER, ALBERTA, Canada

General Red Deer Information

Red Deer is a city of about 90,000 people located in the beautiful, gently rolling parkland prairie region of Alberta, less than a two-hour drive from airports in Edmonton or Calgary.  The city and region have numerous amenities that make it an excellent feast site.

The Red Deer Lodge, the festival location, is a full convention facility located in south Red Deer, away from the commotion of the center of town.  In addition to satisfying our need for a variety of rooms, it has a good quality restaurant and buffet service, with an indoor atrium and pool setting.  The area around the Lodge has some fine restaurants within walking distance or a short drive, offering North American and ethnic cuisines.

Festival meetings will be held at:

Red Deer Lodge

4311 49 Ave

Red Deer, Alberta   T4N 5Y7

Phone: (800) 661-1675

Local Attractions

The city boasts one of the highest per-capita park and pathway systems in North America, one of which begins across the street from the convention center in forested picnic grounds.  Local hiking, trail rides, and canoeing opportunities along the beautiful setting of the Red Deer River make this an almost out-of-town experience.  Kerrywood Nature Center, for example, is a provincial bird sanctuary within city limits that offers an interactive nature museum, kilometers of natural trails around the reserve’s lake, and an opportunity to observe numerous birds and animals in their habitat.

Red Deer is home to a restored fur trade fort and a provincial sports museum.  Other accessible attractions in the central region of Alberta include the Reynold’s Museum in Wetaskiwin, about an hour’s drive north, specializing in antique cars, aircraft and equipment from Alberta’s history.  Reynold’s is a world-renowned museum. About two hours to the southeast are the Alberta Badlands, a World Heritage Site, and the famous Royal Tyrell Museum in Drumheller, one of the foremost paleontology research centers, with impressive collections and displays of dinosaur and other fossils.  Although this might be difficult to visit during the feast, it would make a worthwhile day trip before or after.

As one travels west of the city through the foothills, one reaches one of the most accessibly rugged, scenic regions of the Canadian Rocky Mountains along the Banff-Jasper Highway to the spectacular Athabasca Glacier, a fast retreating arm of the famous Columbia Ice Field.  This trip can be accomplished in an afternoon and evening.

Red Deer abounds with excellent restaurants and a variety of accommodations to fit every budget. There are also many athletic facilities and outdoor recreational opportunities, including a go-cart race track.  Autumn in Red Deer is a beautiful time of year.  A drive through the countryside or a walk along many of the trails emphasizes the harvest theme of the festival, and reminds us of the time of plenty we look forward to in the Millennium.

Housing Information and Rates

To make reservations, call (800) 661-1657 or (403) 346-8841, or visit the website: www.reddeerlodge.ca.  Rates for rooms start at $99 per night, single or double occupancy.

Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada

General Charlottetown Information

This year the Feast of Tabernacles will be observed in the friendly and beautiful Canadian maritime province of Prince Edward Island. The capital city of Charlottetown is centrally located on the south shore, and has a population of about 32,000.  It is distinguished as the birth place of the Nation.  The island may be small, but it’s packed with history: from First Nations, to the first Acadians, to the Fathers of Confederation (1864) who first met on PEI to form the country we now call Canada.  The Feast here is certain to become part of those celebrated “remember when” Feast moments.

PEI will be a Feast for all your senses—physical and spiritual.  Inspiring messages, ardent hymn-singing and warm fellowship are connected with this site every year. The experience will be one that will persist in memory long after you have returned home. You will find yourself thinking back to the Island’s particular combination of brilliant and complementary colors, and the potato fields that roll so gently like tended waves.  You’ll remember fondly the close-family atmosphere often associated with the Maritimes.

Local Attractions

Explore the Gentle Island where Fall is often the most beautiful season.  It’s a time when the weather is clear and the colours are rich, amidst the red sandstone cliffs formed by wind and water.  Gleaming lighthouses are situated against brilliant sunsets.

You’ll find picturesque communities, breathtaking landscapes, secluded beaches (beach comb for sea-glass), and the warmest ocean water north of the Carolinas.  There are so many reasons to visit this gem of an Island that spans just 280 km from tip to tip.

Gentle Island highlights include cycling, touring, kayaking, golfing, exploring sandy beaches and taking a refreshing ocean swim. PEI rates among the world’s top islands for such things as natural attractions, activities, sights and restaurants, and an overall casual atmosphere for the entire family.

Charlottetown encompasses the Island’s heritage, from Founder’s Hall (a tribute to Charlottetown’s important role in Canadian history) to Province National Historic site. In Charlottetown, you can experience art, shopping and fine cuisine.  You will find the historic downtown has prevailing colours of warm, red brick accented by the rich greens of tree-lined streets. Or just take it easy with scenic and historic waterfront strolls on the popular boardwalk. This is Canada’s Birthplace, the Cradle of Confederation.  Come feel the extent of history on Charlotte’s Shore.

Feast services will be at the Puertas del Sol complex, which has a capacity for 90 people. The complex has indoor and outdoor pools, Jacuzzi, children’s play areas, and is equipped with wireless Internet. The cost per person, per day, including lunch and dinner is USD$28 at this complex. Rooms are equipped with kitchenettes.  For more information on this complex, visit its website at www.turismopuertasdelsol.cl. Services at this site will be in Spanish. English translation has not been secured.

If you like to attend the Feast in Chile, and can speak Spanish, request a transfer by registering through the MyLCG section of www.cogl.org and contact Madeleine Lincoln-Strange at mlincoln@lcg.org or by phone at 704-844-1960, ext. 217.

Forges-les-Eaux, France

The Feast of Tabernacles in France will take place this year in Forges-les-Eaux, a flowery town of 3,700 inhabitants located in the Seine-Maritime department in the Haute-Normandie region, just two hours from Paris. The VVF (holiday village where the Festival will take place) will host about 140 attendees. The Church will have exclusive use of the site. About ½ mile from shops, it is at the center of a unique setting in Normandy, consisting of meadows and groves that roll away from the hectic city.

Participants will lodge in bungalows. Services and a number of the Feast activities will be held at the main VVF building, located a few meters from the bungalows. The dining rooms are also at the main VVF building, where we will share our three daily meals. According to our tradition, wine and cheese will be served at lunch and dinner. Full room and board is included in the price (see below).

This will be a bilingual French-English Feast site. Simultaneous translation of all services is planned. A bus shuttle will be available for transportation between Paris and Forges-les-Eaux on the day of arrivals and departures. The full board rates are 653 euros for adults (ages 15 and up) in single occupancy; 535 euros for adults in double or higher occupancy; and 294 euros for children ages 2-14. Children under the age of 2 do not pay. If you would like to attend the Feast of Tabernacles in Forges-les-Eaux, request a transfer by registering through your personal MyLCG account at www.cogl.org and contact Mr. Dibar Apartian at dapartian@lcg.org or at +1-704-844-1970.

Our (Thiel) family went to the FOT in Evian, France last year and stayed at the VVF facility there and did like it.

Panajachel, Guatemala

In 2009 the brethren from Guatemala will once again celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles in God’s chosen site of Panajachel, located next to Lake Atitlan. The nomination of Lake Atitlan as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World is much deserved, because it is a display of God’s awesome creative power as the Great Architect of the Universe and one of the most beautiful landscapes on earth. There is a two-hour trip from the airport to the Feast site; a discount on airport transportation is available for Church members.

English translation will be available at this site. Accommodation rates are surprisingly low at US$8 per person, per night. A good lunch or dinner can be enjoyed for US$7. There are also other hotels of higher prices and comfort.

For further information on this site, contact Madeleine Lincoln-Strange at mlincoln@lcg.org or by phone at 704-844-1960, ext. 217. If you would like to attend the Feast of Tabernacles in Guatemala, request a transfer by registering through the MyLCG section of www.cogl.org.

Georgetown, Guyana

The Feast of Tabernacles will be celebrated in Georgetown, the picturesque capital and primary port of Guyana. Georgetown is a city of comfortable and modern hotels, fine colonial buildings, and broad, tree-lined boulevards. The striking wooden architecture is reminiscent of Guyana’s centuries as a Dutch, and then British colony. Georgetown offers an evocative introduction to Guyana. Feast services will be held at the Hotel Tower.

Designed by the Dutch (and first known as Stabroek), Guyana’s capital has wide, tree-lined avenues, lily-covered canals, and many fine examples of 18th  and 19th century colonial buildings. Georgetown’s tropical botanical gardens, as one might expect in a country of such incredible natural beauty, are considered to be among the very best in the world. Throughout the city are colorful East Indian markets, indicative of the country’s largely East Indian population. Because Georgetown lies below sea level at high tide, it is protected by an amazing masonry wall, or mole. The city is situated at the mouth of the Demerara River, one of the many rivers that flow down from the Guiana Highlands and across the coastal plain to the Atlantic.

For a complete description of this site, including a list of hotels, go to the MyLCG section of www.cogl.org. If you would like to attend the Feast of Tabernacles in Guyana, request a transfer by registering through the MyLCG section of www.cogl.org.

Our (Thiel) family has been to the FOT site in Guatemala, but not this site. We did like Guatemala.

Montego Bay, Jamaica

The Holiday Inn SunSpree Resort in the seaside city of Montego Bay is the site of the Feast of Tabernacles 2009 in Jamaica. Situated on Jamaica’s North Coast, Montego Bay is the island’s premier tourist destination. The Holiday Inn SunSpree Resort is six miles from Sangster’s International Airport and eight miles from downtown Montego Bay. Transportation is available from the airport to the resort for approximately US$25 for up to four persons, one way. Feast services will be held at the Holiday Inn SunSpree Resort.

Attractions in the area include a tour of the Rose Hall Great House, rafting on the Martha Brae River, cruising along the Montego Bay coastline, snorkeling in the Montego Bay marine park, enjoying one of the many Chukka Adventure Tours or browsing through the craft and souvenir shops on Gloucester Avenue.

The resort boasts 524 spacious guest rooms and suites, with balconies or patios; three specialty restaurants, in addition to the main dining room and grill; state-of-the-art fitness centre; lighted tennis courts; nine-hole mini-golf course; children’s activity centers and complimentary self-service laundry facilities with washers and dryers. All rooms have one king bed or two double beds. Children ages 12 and under stay, play and eat for free (conditions apply).

SPECIAL NOTE: If you are transferring to Jamaica and staying at the Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort, we highly encourage you to book your room reservations through the Church in Jamaica by contacting Mr. Lascelles Fraser. In this way, the Church will receive “credit” for your stay and you will help facilitate more of the Jamaican brethren being able to stay “on property” at the Feast hotel.

If you would like to attend the Feast of Tabernacles in Jamaica, request a transfer by registering through the MyLCG section of www.cogl.org.

Our (Thiel) family has been to Jamaica for the FOT, but it was at a less desirable hotel in Montego Bay when we attended there.

Isibania, Kenya

Living Church of God brethren from Kenya and Tanzania will, for the first time, keep the Feast of Tabernacles together in a small town known as Isibania in Western Kenya, near Lake Victoria.  Isibania is situated on the border of Tanzania, a popular trade destination for Kenyans and Tanzanians. International guests should fly into Joma Kenyatta International Airport and take a shuttle to Isibania, about 400 km from Nairobi.  On the way, they might see giraffes as they pass through the plains of Rift Valley. Brethren attending the Feast will have the opportunity to see large sugarcane farms.  Huge rocks lay on top of each other, looking like an African hut from a distance.  On the sides are private small-scale farms where varieties of crops are grown and indigenous livestock is raised.

Accommodations for all brethren, both local and international, will be available at the Isibania Border Point Hotel. International brethren will be on bed/breakfast at a cost of US$21 per person, per night. Meals are US$5 per person, per meal. There will be rooms for about 30 international transfers.  Transfer applicants should be adventurous adults in good health.  Vaccination and malarial medication are recommended.

Those who wish to transfer to Kenya should contact Mr. Rod King by e-mail at rod.king@btconnect.com or by phone +44-1480-880-172, and request a transfer by registering through the MyLCG section of www.cogl.org

Penang, Malaysia

This year the Feast of Tabernacles will be held in Tanjong Bunga Beach Hotel Penang, in Malaysia. It is a beautiful beach hotel situated on the northern coastline of Penang. It is a place where you can take a swim in the sea, stroll along the beach and enjoy a wonderful stay in a comfortable room.

The Komtar Shopping Complex, Island Plaza and Gurney Plaza, the fantastic hawker food at Gurney Drive, and the Botanical Gardens are all only 15 minutes away along the road. The Tanjong Bunga Beach Hotel Penang is strategically located and is an idyllic getaway. Penang possesses a unique charm of old and new perfectly blended on an island in full bloom that beckons you to harvest your dream of a wonderful Feast.

Special room rates at Tanjong Bunga Beach Hotel Penang are listed at the MyLCG section of the www.cogl.org website. Make your hotel reservations through Mr. Rajan Moses for the special rate. Those who would like to attend the Feast of Tabernacles in Malaysia should request a transfer by registering through the MyLCG section of www.cogl.org.

Our (Thiel) family has been to the FOT site in Penang, Malaysia and we do recommend it.

St. Luce, Martinique (French Feast Site)

The Feast of Tabernacles in Martinique (a French Island in the West Indies) will be held in St. Luce (www.sainteluce.fr), a small town located in the south of the Martinique island, about 15 miles from the airport. This site will be a small site of about 50 persons. It is a French-speaking site. There will be no official translation into English. Opening Night services will start at 7:00 p.m. Snacks will be served following the service that evening.

Feast services will be held at the Karibea Hotel. You can visit their website at: www.karibea.com/martinique/hotel_sainteluce.php.Each room is equipped with a full kitchenette, so each family can prepare meals in their rooms if they so desire. Our (Thiel) family has considered going here in the past and may some day.

Baguio City, Philippines

Baguio City, a Feast site since 1967, is known as the city of the pines. Nestled in the Cordillera mountain ranges at 1,500 meters above sea level, it is the summer capital of the Philippines because of its year-round cool climate. During the Feast, the weather is usually very pleasant, a welcome change from the heat in Manila. Established by the Americans in 1909, this city will turn 100 years old on September 1, 2009. Baguio may be reached from Manila by land within five to six hours, and by air in 45 minutes whenever there is no cloud cover. Overseas visitors would fly into Manila, and then travel up to Baguio by air (depending on the weather in Baguio) or by road. Brethren from the local area will meet visitors at the airport and escort them to their accommodations in Manila, and then assist them in their journey up to Baguio.

The Feast site venue is the Teacher’s Camp where there are a number of dormitories and cottages with cooking facilities. The Camp is also accessible from various lodging houses and three-plus star hotels situated within the city proper, most of them no more than five minutes away from the hall by taxi, car or Jeepney. Overseas guests are well catered for, and can enjoy five-star treatment at The Manor Hotel at Camp John Hay, which is also very close to the Teacher’s Camp where services are held. Baguio is a very safe place for tourists.

The Philippine brethren are very warm and outgoing, and just love to see visitors from overseas. At this Feast site, services will be in English. It is a tradition to have a Festival Show and this year will be no exception, so bring your contributions with you, musical items—vocal or instrumental—and funny skits, etc.

If you would like to attend the Feast in Baguio, Philippines, request a transfer by registering through the MyLCG section of www.cogl.org

Taupo, New Zealand

Taupo is a town on the shore of Lake Taupo in the centre of New Zealand‘s North Island. Feastgoers will generally fly into Auckland, from where it is just a three-to four-hour scenic drive over good roads. Taupo is also served by commuter air services. Services will be held at the Taupo Cosmopolitan Club, Taniwha Street in central Taupo.

Taupo is situated in an area of great natural beauty. There are rivers and lakes, forests, mountains, thermal areas and active volcanoes, all within reach over good roads. There are many fine restaurants and other opportunities to fellowship. Organized activities will include trout fishing for children, mini-golf, a visit to a lion park and a games evening.

There is available in Taupo a wide range of accommodations for all needs and budgets. Those who want to rent a luxury apartment or stay in a B&B, motel, hotel or even camp in a camping ground are all catered for. The accommodation is of a high standard and most Feastgoers will readily find a good, comfortable motel for two adults in the price range of US$45-70 per night. No Feastgoer needs to be more than five minutes drive from services and there are many motels within walking distance.

If you would like to attend the Feast in New Zealand, request a transfer by registering through the MyLCG section of www.cogl.org

El Cusco, Peru

This year the Peruvian brethren will celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles in El Cusco. The city sits at 11,000 feet above sea level, has an average temperature of 50º F and receives close to one million visitors a year.  Services will be held at the hotel “Centro Recreacional y Convenciones Sol de Oro-Cusco.” The cost of lodging for nine days, including three meals a day, is USD$145 per person. Simultaneous interpretation into English during services will be available at this site.

If you want like to attend the Feast in Peru, request a transfer by registering through the MyLCG section of www.cogl.org and contact Madeleine Lincoln-Strange at mlincoln@lcg.org or by phone at 704-844-1960, ext. 217.

Our family was thinking about attending in Peru a few years ago, but then there were no translations into English. I suspect some might find Peru to be a place that would truly appreciate visitors.

Glentana, South Africa

The South African Feast site is located in the coastal resort of Glentana which is situated 15 miles southwest of George, in a beautiful coastal area known as the Garden Route, bordering the Indian Ocean in the southern part of the Western Cape. The surrounding area consists of a remarkable blending of mountains, rivers, indigenous forests, colorful shrubs and wild flowers, glorious beaches and rich farmlands. Some of the most exciting land-based whale-watching points in the world exist along the Garden Route coast.

George Airport (eight miles from Glentana) has domestic links with the international airports at Cape Town and Johannesburg. The resort of Glentana is an extremely peaceful area, being a retirement/holiday settlement having no commercial or heavy traffic activity within its confines. The hall is in a safe and quiet area with virtually no intrusive outside noise or interruption of any kind, and includes its own secure parking area. A disadvantage is the lack of shopping facilities in the immediate area, necessitating travel to George to stock up on supplies.

The vast majority of the accommodation is self-catering and there are very few nearby restaurants. Self-catering accommodation is available and consists of private homes and flats situated on, or close to, the beachfront. Rates vary between R800 to R1500 per day for up to four persons (the current foreign exchange rate is approximately R10.00 for US$1.00). Because there is no public transport in the area (except for taxis, which operate from George and are relatively expensive), we strongly advise visitors to make provision for their own transport in the form of hired cars, which are available at the airport. It will also be very convenient for visitors to have their own transport to travel to services, activities and various sites of interest.

Crown Point, Tobago

The Feast of Tabernacles in Tobago will be held at The Trim’s Meeting Hall in Crown Point, Tobago. The Meeting Hall is situated within walking distance from the airport. Tobago basks in tranquility and sunshine, just 22 miles off Trinidad’s northeastern tip. This is Robinson Crusoe’s desert island (Tobago was the inspiration for the book)—a land of swaying palms, deserted beaches and secluded half-moon bays sheltered by coral reefs resplendent with underwater gardens. Scattered fishing villages, pastel-hued houses, small and special hotels and easy-going people, all contribute to a feeling of total peace and quiet. Surprisingly, Tobago has a torrid past, having been the most fought over island in the Caribbean. Nowadays, however, you’ll find an innocence and a naturalness that is unique. Visit the famous Bucco Reef and Nylon pool—one of the wonders of the world! For a list of accommodations at this site, login at the MyLCG section of www.cogl.org

Llangollen, United Kingdom

This year’s Feast in the United Kingdom will once again be held at Llangollen, in the Northeast corner of Wales. Nestled on the banks of the beautiful River Dee and surrounded by the resplendent scenery of the Berwyn Mountains, the area is famous for its outstanding beauty. The town has earned an international reputation as the Festival Capital of Wales. It is home to the International Musical Eisteddfod and numerous other festivals throughout the year. The Dee Valley has become an outstanding outdoor activity centre for kayaking, white water rafting, climbing and mountain biking.

There is a wide selection of varied accommodation in the area and plenty of quality places in which to eat. The location of services will be at the Bryn Howel Hotel, situated some two miles to the east of the town in its own secluded three acres of landscaped grounds. We have sole occupancy for the duration of the Feast. We have negotiated discretionary room rates with this and two sister hotels—The Chainbridge and The Wild Pheasant, both situated to the west of the town—and our guests at all three hotels will have access to the relaxing spa facilities available at The Wild Pheasant. Please be sure to mention when booking that you are part of the LCG Convention.

Orap, Vanuatu

The Feast in 2009 will again be held in Orap, a village on the island of Malekula. Orap is the home of the largest Living Church of God congregation in Vanuatu. Overseas visitors will be made very welcome by local members. Plan to fly into the capital, Port Vila, and then travel by commuter airline to Norsup, which is not far from Orap. Local members will meet your plane in Norsup and will arrange transportation to Orap. Services will be held in the site’s tabernacle building. Most meals will be prepared and enjoyed communally. At past Feasts, members have gone on picnics and played sports.

Local members speak English and French and services will be largely conducted in or translated into English. We expect about 60 to attend. Costs incurred during the Feast should amount to no more than USD$10 per day. Accommodations will be in small guest houses which have been built for visitors or you could use your own hiker’s tent. The Feast site is on the river bank and just a five minute walk from the ocean. Orap is a safe locality and recommended as suitable for all ages.
