James Malm was an independent internet poster and leader/owner of the Shining Light blog.
Here is something his son posted about him and his death:
From David Malm
Hello Dear readers with a very heavy heart, I tell you I found my father and best friend James Malm passed away this morning, James for those who don’t know had been struggling with diabetes, High blood pressure, And failing eyesight for years. He was trying very hard to get better eating less and trying to control his BP he wanted to see me happy one day in the refuge I just cannot believe this nightmare im in, he cared for me so much and tirelessly tried to warn the church of the state of pure idolatry that its in today. My father James had a vision once in a hotel room his troubles almost overwhelming and an angel said to him [ This is the time my son this is the time be strong and persevere ] Well this is still the time! his struggle may be over but he fought like a soldier for me and for all of you and I pray for him this beloved teacher and mentor my good friend and teacher in the faith who did persevere and was strong!
James Malm repeatedly tried to suggest that he is doing an Elijah-type work. This is despite that fact that he historically was making inaccurate statements about prophecies, people, and organizations. He was wrong each time he claimed that there was a high probability that the Great Tribulation would begin in a particular year.
As far as I have been able to tell, he did done some version of that for every year since around 2008 up to 2021 (and though he died in 2020, his 2021 prediction will be proven false).
Notice, for example, something he posted on May 4, 2019:
Remember that regardless of wars and rumors of wars, political events and peace plans; the final and definitive sign that the onset of the tribulation is imminent is the setting up of a miracle working man (2 Thess) as Roman Pontiff in the Vatican.
When he is set up there will be a maximum of 1,335 days until Christ comes (Dan 12). Within about 75 days [1335 days minus 1260 days for the tribulation] after being set up he will go to the Temple Mount, which visit will trigger the tribulation beginning with the occupation of Jerusalem and war on Judea (Matthew 24: 15).
We will only know for certain that the tribulation is about to begin when this man is set up doing miracles and announces his plans for a visit to Jerusalem. It could be late this year, or late next year or even longer, and a Middle East peace must also be reached (1 Thess 5:3).
Personal Speculation: The tribulation will begin at God’s appointed time, yet I would not be at all surprised if it takes until late 2020 for events in the world and in the Assemblies to unfold, for a Middle East peace deal to be achieved and for the miracle worker to be set up bringing the great tribulation.
Yet, according to events the Bible points to, there is NO WAY THAT THE GREAT TRIBULATION CAN BEGIN BEFORE 2024 (see also When Will the Great Tribulation Begin?).
Here is something from 2020:
I have explained the signs of the onset of the tribulation and Christ’s coming in detail over the years; I have understood the course of events yet I have not known the specific time frame which is why I have never posted any firm dates for anything. ...
Still I can see the progress of events and it is crystal clear that this is now imminent and could begin as soon as this coming winter or possibly in just one more year. Be assured that Satan is also well aware that the words of the prophets are about to be fulfilled.
Satan knows that he will be removed form ruling he earth and incarcerated very soon and he is trying very hard to break the prophecies just like he tried to prevent the rebuilding of the temple and the rebuilding of Jerusalem according to the precise timetable that God had laid out through his prophets. ...
This could well be the year but this could also go slower than expected and take another year. (Malm J. Personal, Encouragement in the Present Distress. April 5, 2020. https://godourlight.info/personal-encouragement-in-the-present-distress/)
James Malm has set dates, despite him now claiming otherwise.
Here is something else from 2020:
29 April: Daniel was told by the angel Gabriel in the 2300 Day prophecy of Daniel 8 that Messiah would come to cleanse the temple mount and build the Ezekiel temple 2,300 years after the empire of Alexander was divided into four parts. This clearly sets the coming of Christ in 2024 A.D. which means that the tribulation would begin late this year.
Of course that date depends on an accurate starting date which was always a problem to find. God also told Daniel by the angel that an understanding of the prophets was sealed until the very last minute (Dan 12:9) and that at the very last moment knowledge would be increased as the prophets were unsealed (Dan 12:10). Over the past few years God has revealed more and more and now has provided a way to confirm that date with a better understanding of other prophecies which also date the onset of the tribulation. (Mlam J. https://godourlight.info/church-of-god-news-blog-march-2020-to-2021/ accessed 05/01/20)
No, it is not possible for Jesus to return in 2024 or for the Great Tribulation to beginin 2020.
A true prophet of God realizes that any who claim prior to 2024 are in error. There is NO possibility that the Great Tribulation will begin in 2020, 2021, or 2022.
Necessary events that Jesus and Daniel mentioned have not happened that will allow for that.
The Elijah Work?
On January 22, 2012, James Malm wrote a post titled The Elijah Work: Part 2 where he stated:
As the first two Elajah’s were needed to correct the “COG” of their day; another Elijah will be sent in this latter day to also restore all things, to turn God’s elect back to the righteousness of the just and to a passionate zeal for God and his commandments; and to prepare the way for the coming of the Kingdom of God!
There is very much to think about in this post, as the mission of Elijah has not been well understood or taught.
Tomorrow’s post will be on the third Elijah of the latter days; and the witness of the two prophets.
Since James Malm’s focus seemed to be on criticizing COG groups, he seemed to be hinting that he was doing an Elijah-like work. He was not.
Here is something from his 1/20/12 post titled The Elijah Work: Part 1:
If we want to do an “Elijah” work we too must be passionate about God and his law…
Those who are NOT as passionate as Elijah was, could never do an Elijah work! If we are not filled with that same spirit of passionate love for God and his Law it would be impossible to do a similar work!
If Elijah were to appear today: He would be rejected and called: Extremeist; Self-righteous; Pharisaical, Over Righteous; and the COG Groups would demand of him: Just who do you think you are to criticise God’s church and people as being less tan spiritually perfect? If he were to try to turn them to the Eternal they would just declare: We are spiritually rich and have need of nothing, you are crazy to disagree with us!
These Groups will reject God’s two prophets when they come, because they are too proud to admit any error in their beliefs and traditions. How then, can they do an Elijah work when they would reject Elijah if he were to stand right before them?…
Those who reject the Moses and Elijah to come would also reject Christ if he came to speak the truth to them; they will not be in God’s kingdom unless they repent.
While it is true that COG groups will not accept James Malm’s prophetic misunderstandings and inaccurate accusations, it should be noted that COG groups do examine their own prophetic understandings and make modifications. Those interested in learning about the two witnesses, should check out the article Who Are The Two Witnesses?
James Malm somewhat seemed to be suggesting that the COG groups will not be in God’s Kingdom because he says that they will not accept the Elijah to come (see also The Elijah Heresies ). James Malm was doing an error-ridden work that he should have repented of.
James Malm Promoted Error
Now, it would take much too long to go through all of his inaccurate positions and statements, but there are a several categories of items that can be briefly touched upon and eight are mentioned in this post.
1. James Malm was an “accuser of the brethren.” While I do not agree with many things in various COGs, I have not tried to impute the type of motives to their leaders that James Malm has often improperly done. Furthermore, many of his accusations against some COG leaders I know personally (as well as about myself) that he has made were wrong.
2. James Malm’s accusations against me were not only in error, but hypocritical. James Malm has often blasted me for bring up Catholic prophecy, yet, has done so himself. Many of his statements about me in his post titled Dale Shurter repents: Bob Thiel Justifies: One Accord out show a lack of appreciation for scriptural truth, as well as ignoring that the Apostle Paul quoted pagan sources at times when he felt it was appropriate.
In response to his email assertion to me that there is likely one pope left, I responded with the following, which he then, on January 16, 2012, posted with his own comments:
Bob Thiel: The final false prophet may become pope soon. If certain Catholic prophecies are correct, it would have to be the next pope. Biblical prophecy does not require this, but also does not preclude this. Because of where we are in the 6,000 years, it is logical that this could be, though it does not have to be, the next pope (John-Paul I was only pope for several weeks).
James Malm: Actually the 2300 Day Prophecy does come extremely close to requiring this, by setting the date for the cleansing of the Holy Place about this time. While the overall explanation of the prophecy is correct, the starting and ending dates are not precisely known, but they are very very close; and I would never count on the prophecies of Jezebel.
I do not believe that the 2300 day prophecy in any way requires that Pope Francis must be the final pope (check out my book The Last Pope: Do Biblical and Catholic Prophecies Point to Pope Francis? Amazon Book).
In two posts, he has the following:
Those who use prophecies of the pagan Maya, Roman Catholics [the very beast itself] and other pagan sources to support their positions: Are false prophets as surely as the prophets of Baal! (Malm J. 1/20/12)
A little hint; Bob has come up with his own ideas and then confirmed them from Roman Catholic and other pagan sources. Now don’t you think that Satan would love to get us all into tribulation and would therefore use his pagan puppets to deceive God’s people? The real foundation of these false prophetic understandings is Jezebel herself! (Malm J. 1/19/2012)
So, James Malm seemed to be calling me and others false if we have any understanding of how Satan may be planning on preparing the world for part of his plan (see also Satan's Plan; here is a link to a related video: Satan's Plan A Brief Introduction.). This is absurd, plus James Malm did not realize that he himself has done this.
Notice what, in July 2008, James Malm posted:
Roman Catholic tradition indicates that the next Pope will be the last one. While we should not stand on any non scriptural tradition, Benedict XVI at 80 is visibly slowing down. Benedict may be empowered and strengthened to last until the return of Christ, or he may go the way of all flesh. If he does pass on; who will replace him?
Catholic tradition, in this case, is based upon the same Catholic prophecies that James Malm has blasted me for mentioning and indicated that this makes me a false prophet of some sort. His repeated hypocrisy here was outrageous.
Furthermore, it perhaps should be mentioned that I utilize Catholic and non-biblical prophecies in pretty much the same way the Apostle Paul and the old Radio Church of God/Worldwide Church of God did. Twice, in the 1960s, the old Good News magazine had articles similar to mine titled Do Certain Catholic Prophecies About Antichrist Warn Against Jesus? (and both of those articles are referenced in my article Do Certain Catholic Prophecies About Antichrist Warn Against Jesus? as well as David Jon Hill, Catholic Prophecies, and COGwriter).
One observer, who I do not know, posted the following in late 2019:
James Malm is extremely jealous of Bob Thiel. Bob has garnered a following and actually has income coming in to sustain some of his witnessing activities. Malm can't get anyone to send him enough money to keep his bills paid and maintain his blog. No matter how much he begs, people don't send him money. Thiel is able to claim he gets no salary from his followers and thus can use money sent to him to send booklets, computers, seeds, etc to his African followers. Malm is too blinded by his Moses worship that he can't see how bitter he comes across to people. He has to be the most graceless man the church has at the moment.

3. James Malm had a wrong focus. The focus of his website, similar to some of David Pack’s writings, was to make accusations (often factually and scripturally unsound) against COG groups. And while there is a place for trying to point out doctrinal and other differences, James Malm frequently focused on personalities and imagined agendas.
But the reality is that he was not focused on Matthew 24:14 as he did not believe that God would use humans will accomplish this–he wanted to wait around until “the third angel” does that. On 1/19/12 James Malm posted:
Mat 24:14 will NOT be fulfilled until the third angel completes his mission immediately before the coming of Christ with all the saints.
James Malm seemed to misunderstand the gospel as well as the mission of the faithful to reach the world with it. The Bible disagrees (see also Should the Church Still Try to Place its Top Priority on Proclaiming the Gospel or Did Herbert W. Armstrong Change that Priority for the Work? and The Final Phase of the Work)
The third angel’s message does not come until well after the great tribulation begins as Revelation 14:8-9 helps show, whereas Matthew 24:14 is shown to happen prior to the start of the Great Tribulation which Jesus shows, in sequence, begins in Matthew 24:21:
14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come. 15 “Therefore when you see the ‘abomination of desolation,’ spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place” (whoever reads, let him understand), 16 “then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. 17 Let him who is on the housetop not go down to take anything out of his house. 18 And let him who is in the field not go back to get his clothes. 19 But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! 20 And pray that your flight may not be in winter or on the Sabbath. 21 For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be. (Matthew 24:14-21)
Note that the Great Tribulation starts after the fulfillment of Matthew 24:14. Many do not understand that the priority of Matthew 24:14 remains (see Should the Church Still Try to Place its Top Priority on Proclaiming the Gospel or Did Herbert W. Armstrong Change that Priority for the Work?).
4. James Malm’s prophetic interpretations were often wrong. Though he tried to deny it, and has many misleading and inaccurate statements in his “open letter” to me, the reality is that James Malm was proven to misunderstand prophecy in the past, and I believe it is provable that he misunderstood many important areas of Bible prophecy.
In November 2007, he posted:
While the timing of this Festival is determined by the observance of the New Moon, the sixth day of this Festival is expected on 12 Apr 2012. Counting back from then, 1290 days, means that; the final false prophet we are awaiting, should be revealed around 30 Sep 2008 (Malm J. November 7, 2007 article titled “2008 in Prophecy).
In December 2007, he wrote:
Please, do not confuse me with R Weinland. I strongly disagree with most of what he says. For one thing I endeavour to provide scriptural backing for everything that I say. However I do say that 2008 is a critical year. As stated on the website I expect the Abomination (the man of sin) to be set up at the end of Sep and to go to the Holy Place within 75 days, triggering the occupation of Jerusalem. We shall know soon enough if I am correct!
Sincerely James Malm
Of course, that was wrong. Nor did he properly understand many of the scriptures he refered to.
In 2008, he posted:
The only possible years for the 1335 days to begin in the forseeable future are 2008 or 2009…
In short the last day of the 1335 days may occur on the day before Pentecost, making the Feast of Pentecost representative of a NEW BEGINNING IN THE KINGDOM OF GOD. If this is true, and I shall study it further; the final False Prophet will be set up on 3 Oct 2009! (Malm. J. 2008 and Prophecy, 30 SEP 08).
On July 19, 2009, he emailed the following to me:
Dear Robert
Because I had told you in the past that no changes had been made to the 70 Weeks Prophecyarticle, I feel responsible to inform you that the article has been expanded and edited…I have stated that If this is the year, the Final False Prophet will be set up 1,335 days prior to the day BEFORE Pentecost in 2013. I have said that this date will be 3 Oct, if my calculations are correct. It turns out that the calculation was not correct. I had made an error which has been pointed out to me and I have since rechecked this calculation. The date should be 19 Oct 09; NOT 3 Oct 09. This is based on the Biblical Calendar…(Malm J. Email, July 19, 2009).
But because I posted the above email, even after telling him that my only prediction in 2009 was that the end (meaning the Great Tribulation) could not come then, he actually wrote in August 2009 the following and included a challenge:
Dear Robert
Yes, you did make a prediction. You predicted that nothing will happen. If something does then you will be the false prophet. Will YOU issue an admission that YOU were a false prophet? I will make a deal with you. If I have your promise to do so, then I will promise to issue a public admission that I have been wrong! Let me know!…James Malm
My response to him was:
If I am wrong, I will clearly admit it. So yes we have a deal. I hope that you will be clear if you were wrong.
Well, he kind of sort of admitted it then, after he was proven wrong:
The abomination was NOT set up on the 19th of Oct and the trend of events seems to point to continued slow progress toward the Time Appointed. God is working to His time table; NOT OURS…
The more time passes the less likely it becomes that the elderly Benedict XVI will become the final false prophet.
His excuse was similar to one that the self-appointed false prophet Ronald Weinland has used. Furthermore, instead of properly repenting of his error, James Malm then lashed out improperly against me again (for details, see James Malm Continues to Mislead). He could have simply stated that I was right and he was wrong, but instead made false accusations again towards me.
In a 7/28/11 post titled Present Trends and Dating The Tribulation, James Malm wrote:
There is a very high likelihood that the tribulation will begin late next year; with the abomination being set up on or near September 16th 2012 with the tribulation beginning on 30 Nov ~ 1 Dec time frame.
I am not setting a solid date here. I am merely pointing out that the signs of the times in the world and in the COGs ,tend to point to next year, or a subsequent year; rather than to 2011.
I do NOT know the exact year!!!
While I am glad he admitted that he does not know the exact year, let me make this as plain as I can, there was absolutely no likelihood that the Great Tribulation could begin in 2012 nor the biblically required abomination of desolation set up that Jesus (Matthew 24:15) mentioned related to a prophecy in the Book of Daniel 11:31--and I so stated that no later than in 2012. I mentioned this in my 2009 book, 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect. And not only was I correct, but world events aligned with at least 32 predictions in my that book. This is a book James Malm condemned on various occasions without ever actually reading it.
James Malm made the following inaccurate statements:
August 29, 2012: News is fast coming that strongly indicates that Pope Benedict will be empowered to become the abomination in mid Sep!!!…I have speculated that the tribulation could begin this year saying that there was as much as an 80% possibility.
October 15, 2012:…Scripture tells us that no agreement can be concluded and ratified until a miracle working final false prophet called “A Desolating Abomination” is set up in the Papacy, Rev 13, 2 Thess; and calls for the new European Order; which will amount to a revival of the unHoly Roman Empire.
Once this false prophet is set up in the Vatican [Due to the advancing age and health problems of Benedict this is now highly likely to be a NEW pope], and he uses his influence to set up the New Europe, he will go to the Holy Place within 75 days of the date he is set up and the tribulation will begin as he visits the Holy Mount and Peace and Safety is proclaimed to be achieved.
It is an interesting note that IF this abomination were to be set up around 6 Oct 2013, then he would go to the Holy Place around Dec 25 2013 to declare peace in the Middle East.
For a decade or so, James Malm had a tendency to have the Great Tribulation start within 1-2 years of some date (which is consistent with the above inaccurate speculation of his above). I denounced his dates pretty much every time I have noticed them and of course, have been right every time and his dates were proven to be repeatedly wrong.
Notice something he posted in 2013:
In 2018 the sixth day of ULB will be on April seventh. Counting back by 1,290 days comes to the setting up of the abomination on Thursday, September 25, 2014: IF IF IF 2014 should be the year, and if my count is correct.
Every year I post this calculation and every year people misunderstand and think I am setting dates. I am not setting dates, I am only posting possibilities based on the scriptures. The trib will NOT begin until the biblical signs are fulfilled. This is only the next biblical possibility.
However it is interesting to note that IF the abomination were to begin to do miracles in mid Sep; the Feast of Tabernacles would come several weeks AFTER the abomination is set up. (October 1, 2013)
That was wrong and not possible. And it was proven wrong.
Here is something he posted October 30, 2014:
The fact that no one knew this during the life of Christ does not contradict Revelation 4-5 where Jesus is found qualified to UNSEAL these things AFTER his resurrection! “No one knows” does not mean that no one will ever know!
As Dan 12 tells us these things were sealed until the end time and at that time Jesus Christ will unseal [As per Rev 4-5 and Daniel 12] these things and reveal them in a large increase of spiritual knowledge.
There is an extremely high probability [at least 90%] that Christ will come in early 2020 and that the abomination will be set up in the Vatican in early Oct 2016 with the tribulation beginning by the end of 2016. (October 30, 2014)
James Malm was 100% wrong. Those who understand Bible prophecy realize that there is NO POSSIBLE WAY THAT THE GREAT TRIBULATION CAN BEGIN PRIOR TO 2022 NOR JESUS RETURN PRIOR TO 2025. And until certain events occur, even those dates would seem early.
In the same post James Malm also added:
Brethren the time of our judgment for following men blindly and without question is at hand, within the next months.
I can proclaim zeal for God; but the choice is yours.
Well, ‘the choice’ is easy. You can allow yourself to be deceived and believe the late James Malm or you see what the Bible teaches. Details that may assist you are in the article When Will the Great Tribulation Begin?
Then James Malm was claiming 2016 or 2017 or 2018:
The prophecy is for our day, NOW!
How long shall be the VISION?
Dan 8:14 Unto 2300 days, then shall the sanctuary be cleansed .
Margin 2300 evenings and mornings. What is an evening and morning?
The evening and morning were the first day Gen 1:5. The evening and morning were the second day Gen 1:8. The evening and morning were the third day Gen 1:13. One evening and one morning together are one day. Two evenings and mornings are two days. Three evenings and mornings are three days. One hundred evenings and mornings are one hundred days. And, twenty-three hundred evenings and mornings are twenty-three hundred days!
Suddenly from the four divisions of Alexander’s kingdom and the founding of the king of the North in Dan 8:8, the prophecy leaps forward to the last days and the cleansing of the sanctuary Dan 8:9. Shown in the explanation; are the four divisions in verse twenty-two and then leaping forward to the LATTER TIME and the cleansing of the sanctuary in verse twenty-three.
In the LATTER TIME a fierce king shall appear, understanding secret [occult and highly technical matters] things and he shall destroy and prosper Dan 8:23-24.
He shall destroy many while they are AT PEACE Dan 8:25, 1 Thes 5:3.
He shall stand up against the Prince of Princes, Jesus Christ at His coming Dan 8:25, but he shall be broken Dan 2:35 and thrown into the fire Rev 19:20 and Dan 7:11.
This final fierce appearing king of the Babylonian system centered in Europe, and at its later end moving to Jerusalem; shall have power to make war, and to occupy Jerusalem; for forty two months or 1260 days Rev 13:5. When he and the false prophet are destroyed the sanctuary will be CLEANSED!
The whole vision about this competition between Babylon [the North] and Egypt [the South] is covered in Dan 11.
The vision about the king of the North, would last for a total of 2300 days from the partition of Alexander’s empire into four parts in 280 BC, and then [at the end of the 2,300 years] shall the sanctuary be cleansed Dan 8:13-14.
The explanation is this:
From the time that Alexander’s empire is divided into four parts, there will be 2300 days [years] until the sanctuary is cleansed and the destruction of the final seventh resurrection of the Holy Roman Empire of Babylon as described in Dan 2, Dan 7.
At a day for a year this 2300 days shall be 2300 years.
Provided the Calendar data is correct the highly probable year of the coming of Christ and the cleansing of the sanctuary is:
Coming forward 2300 years from 280 BC and adding 1 for year zero, arrives at spring 2021 AD, when the sanctuary shall be cleansed by the coming of Jesus Christ.
Now subtracting 42 months (1260 days) shows that this final beast emperor will occupy Jerusalem, beginning at the end of 2017.
Given the historical difficulties of the Greek struggles it is possible that this date might be in error by a year or two, but one thing is certain; IT IS VERY CLOSE INDEED!
These are indications of the nearness of the times; they are not dates certain until proved by the appearance of ALL of the Biblical signs.
At the present time the British people have been promised a referendum on continued EU membership before the end of 2017 with French and German elections scheduled for Sep / Oct 2017.
Britain is highly likely to leave the EU, but exactly how long that process takes is unclear; and certain other countries are likely to follow, creating a crisis in the EU and opening the way for the setting up of the miracle working deceiver in the Vatican in late 2017, who will immediately call for and bring about the rise of a New Europe; the seventh revival of the Scarlet Beast of the Holy Roman Empire.
This man of sin will then go to the Holy Place [Temple Mount] 75 days after being set up in the Vatican and the great tribulation of Mat 24:15 will begin.
Along with this is the coming defeat of radical Islam and a move towards a Mideast peace deal 1 Thess 5:3.
These events are right in line with a date of late 2017 for the start of the tribulation; followed by the coming of Messiah 42 months later; in 2021 AD!
Brethren, the writing is on the wall! (Malm, James. Shining Light. October 20, 2015)
2016, 2017, and 2018 were obviously wrong. Also, it was NOT possible that the 42 months for the Beast to reign could begin in 2017 plus or minus one year (which the above allows for). This was too early. The deal of Daniel 9:27 has not yet been confirmed (see also The ‘Peace Deal’ of Daniel 9:27), and until it is, there is at least 3 1/2 years before the 42 month reign of the Beast (Daniel 7:25) can take place. (Furthermore, his explanation of the 2300 days is in error--more information on that can be found in the article Who Are The Two Witnesses?)
James Malm was pushing late 2018 in 2017:
I think it highly probable that Israel will go to war with Gaza and Hezbollah destroying the remaining power of Syria and bringing regime change to Syria; and the US coalition will attack the Revolutionary Guards in Iran.
The general falling away in the COG Groups (Mat 24:3-5, 2 Thess 2:3, 2 Ti 4, Jude) is also moving ahead, more on that after the UCG GCE conference.
If events do not slow down or pause, all signs now point to the setting up of the abomination to do miracles in the Vatican in October of 2018, with the tribulation beginning 75 days later. (Malm J. Personal. Shining Light. 04/20/17)
The 2300 Day Prophecy [see the 2300 Day Prophecy] indicates that the great hour of trial could begin as early as late 2018 or within a few years after that. Presently the trends indicate that late 2018 is possible.
Then WITHIN 75 days of being set up doing miracles, this roman pope will go to the holy mount and the radical Jewish Settler Movement will sabotage the peace deal and bring the nations of Psalm 83 down on the Jewish State.
The New Europe will intervene, perhaps answering calls of Jewish and other leaders to stop the slaughter. They will secure the massive Israeli weapons caches and the surviving Jews will be crowded into ghettos awaiting deportation.
- As for America, the Arabs will join with Europe and abandon the Petrodollar while hiring European countries to do the unimaginably massive rebuilding throughout the region.
- During the first winter America will lose economic traction and conditions will begin to decline,
- Then during the first spring/summer as the economy fails, a severe drought will gripe the nation,
- Large numbers of recent immigrants – many very wealthy – from Asia, Latin America, the Middle East and elsewhere will leave the country taking their wealth with them,
- During the second winter a population weakened by a lack of proper nutrition due to the drought and the inability to import provisions, will be susceptible to epidemic diseases greater that the Spanish Flu and other such disasters.
- The second summer will be worse than the first, and riots over food, race and other issues will set America ablaze.
- The third winter will be worse than the second with even greater malnutrition and many more dying.
- Then after the sixth seal has been opened, the first 144,000 [see the 144,000 article] will be called out; 12,000 from each tribe of Israel, to witness that the Eternal is God and if they would only trust and obey him, he would save them.
- This 144,000 scattered throughout the nations of Israel will be witnessing as the New Europe goes to attack Asia and the Seven Trumpet Plagues are poured out according to the preaching of God’s Two Witnesses, sometime into the third year.
- Then after the final winter God will allow his Two Servants to be killed and then the seventh Trump will begin to sound and these two along with all the chosen, will rise to life eternal as spirit.
- This will be seen by all the earth and the Gentile rulers will be angry, but the nations of Israel will remember the preaching of God’s Two Servants and the preaching and witnessing of the first 144,000, and will see the plagues and heavenly signs; and they will begin to repent and turn to the Eternal seeking his deliverance.
- A few days later after the Wedding Feast in heaven and the pouring out of the seven last bowls of plagues, Christ will come WITH his chosen and will deliver both Israel and all of humanity from bondage to Satan and sin.
- Then Judah and Israel will welcome their Deliverer with great rejoicing
This 42 months of famine, riots and economic collapse will be accompanied by other natural disasters, one of the chief being great earthquakes which will be so great as to change the surface topography of the earth. (Malm, James. Shining Light. The State of the Work, 3 Sept 2017)
He was in error. That being said, James Malm was essentially correct that there will be temporal cooperation between the Arabs and the Europeans (cf. Daniel 11:27), but that will not end well for the Arabs (watch War is Coming Between Europeans and Arabs).
In late 2018, he pushed 2019 or 2020:
Jerusalem has announced that Ukraine President Petro Poroshenko would soon come for a visit and this week the Israeli air force was reported to be taking part in the US-led Clear Sky exercise in Ukraine, practicing attacks against Russian S-300 and S-400 air defense missile systems.
The probability of the great tribulation beginning at the end of 2019 or 2020 is now extremely high and will increase as these matters progress. (Malm J. TheShiningLight Update, October 31, 2018. https://godourlight.info/theshininglight-update/)
James Malm posted about his view on when God will reveal the two witnesses of Revelation 11:
Very soon now, highly likely in just over a year or soon after that, God will reveal his two witnesses. They will be very newsworthy and will preach the Gospel of sincere repentance and warn the nations of approaching events, which warnings will reach a very wide audience through news coverage.
God’s two servants will inform the brethren that the time has arrived and they will act on God’s instructions to ordain a leader to take the faithful to God’s appointed place.
Our Lord tells us in Revelation three that a people will be spared God’s correction while another part of the Spiritual Ekklesia will be cast into severe correction. Therefore there must of necessity be a split between those zealous to live by every Word of God and those who lack zeal for godliness and only pay lip-service to God’s Word.
I have always said that the work of TheShiningLight is to prepare the bride for the advent of God’s two and the coming of our LORD by expounding sound doctrine, explaining prophecy, restoring forgotten things and revealing the increase of understanding promised by God in Daniel 12.
The time is nearly here to begin the next phase of our work. ...
The Two Witnesses
While the faithful embark on a new phase of learning in their refuge, God’s two witnesses will have two separate and distinctly different missions to accomplish:
- To warn the nations and call them to repentance
- To teach godliness to those who made the choice to remain behind and to any that God should call during the final 42 months.
No one could afford to pay for a site receiving a billion visitors, so the job of warning the world will have to be done through the news media; while a website like TheShiningLight could be used by God’s two to teach and encourage the brethren and those who respond positively to the warnings.
(Malm J. Preparing the Bride and the Tribulation. 20/10/2019 https://godourlight.info/preparing-the-bride-and-the-tribulation/)
He made a similar prediction in January of this year:
Very soon now, within a year or two, God’s two servants will be revealed and they will pour the Holy Spirit out of themselves and into the lamps of the seven churches. (Malm J. Hope and Revival. January 15, 2019. https://godourlight.info/hope-and-revival/
And, if James Malm was saying that Revelation 11:3 could be fulfilled before 2023, he is in error. The Bible does not show that they will pour the Holy Spirit out of themselves (though they can be involved in the Laying on of Hands). Those interested in learning about the two witnesses, should check out the article Who Are The Two Witnesses? The scripture in Revelatioon 11:3 states that God will grant power to the two witnesses, not that they will pour the Holy Spirit out on themselves.
Now, it is interesting that James Malm finally understands that Matthew 24:14 will involve news media participation. I have been teaching that since 2002/2003 (see also The Final Phase of the Work).
James Malm repeatedly was shown to be in prophetic error and COGwriter has not.
Jesus said:
15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. 16 You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? 17 Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them. (Matthew 7:15-20)

5. James Malm misunderstood what should be clear passages in the Bible. He simply believes that certain events are passed that are not and misunderstands the sacrifice of Jesus. Notice what he posted on 1/16/2012:
Dan 11:31 refers to Antiochus Epiphanes and not to the end time. That was a physical daily before Christ; After Christ the daily has become a spiritual application of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
…Dan 11:27 has absolutely no bearing whatsoever on the end times; it took place before Antiochus Epiphanes and was so understood even by HWA…the tribulation is coming and Christ is coming at the appointed times;
James Malm showed a willingness to overlook what the Hebrew states or what HWA really taught. The Bible is clear that Daniel 11:27 has a future fulfillment. While it is possible, and even likely, that verses 21-26 of Daniel 11 (and verse 20 may start the final fulfillment and verse 24 shows that this leader will after first seem to be promoting peace; see When Can the Great Tribulation Begin?) may show and/or parallel later portions of that chapter, it is clear that the future and final King of the North is the king mentioned who will come to his end at the “appointed time.” This “appointed time” (Strong’sword #4150) is first mentioned in Daniel 11:27 which suggest it is in the future and as well in vss. 29 and 35 which appear to be referring to the specific time related to the end.
James Malm, since he believed there is a future appointed time, should obviously have believed that the passages in Daniel 11 that refer to the appointed time of the end have future fulfillment, but he has discounted several of them. Perhaps it should also be mentioned here that James Malm also misunderstands the identity of the King of the South, who is also mentioned in Daniel 11 as he includes the nation of Israel as part of it (for details see James Malm’s COG & Islamic Understanding Again Not Quite Right).
Now, the idea that Daniel 11 had future fulfillment from verse 27 or earlier was the position of certain ones that professed Christ in the second, third, and fourth centuries–it is not a new concept.
Additionally, even though he felt that there was a type of fulfillment with Antiochus Epiphanes, the late Herbert W. Armstrong specifically believed that much of Daniel 11 had future fulfillment. Notice:
In Daniel 11:21, referring in original, typical fulfillment to Antiochus Epiphanes, there shall stand up a vile person…So once again before the second coming of Christ, a vile leader will stop the daily sacrifices being offered…This same prophecy spoken by Jesus is also reported by Luke…21:20-24 (Armstrong HW. Personal, Plain Truth magazine, June 1967).
The indication is the armies of the “beast” of Revelation 17, entering Jerusalem (Dan 11:41, Zech. 14:2), will stop this “daily sacrifice”…And the abomination that maketh desolate set up.” What is this abomination? This refers to Daniel 11:31 and Matthew 24:15. (Armstrong, Herbert W. The Time We Are In, Now. Pastor General’s Report-Vol 1, No. 15, November 20, 1979, Page 2).
Thus, James Malm’s reference to HWA was incomplete and in my view, inaccurate because it not accurately reflect HW’s view.
Furthermore, since “Christ was offered once” (Hebrews 9:28) and not daily as James Malm states) or more often as Roman Catholics indicate), the passage about the daily sacrifice is not referring to Jesus.
While some modern Catholic and Protestant scholars do not accept that there is a future fulfillment of Daniel 11:27,31,etc. historically those who professed Christ had a different view (for some details see the article Who is the King of the North?).
Since he misunderstaood Christ’s sacrifice and the relevance of prophecies for the appointed time of the end (as they disagree with his interpretations), James Malm, in my view, misunderstood relatively easy to understand scriptures.
6. James Malm had no real work. While he is on the internet, I do not believe that of itself is enough. While the Continuing Church of God is on the internet, we also put out actual printed literature in multiple languages, have ministers and other leaders around the world, and have a radio presence (see also The Final Phase of the Work).
James Malm wrote:
The State of This Work
At the present time this is an internet work ...
Please remember that a laborer is worthy of his wages and nothing I receive ever goes into the kind of status symbol houses, cars, and planes, or real property and extravagant unnecessary building projects that other organizations wastefully seek.
Further, I teach the Truth of the Word of God and not the amorphous sophistry of the false traditions of men.
Brethren, supporting those teaching error is not preaching the gospel.
Preaching the Gospel is teaching all people to zealously live by every Word of God, and expounding and explaining the Word of God!
Preaching the false traditions of men and even claiming that certain men have a right to bind or loose God’s Word: is NOT preaching the Gospel. ...
In reality I am not trying to start any organizational church at this time, rather I am calling all organizations to a great revival of zeal for godliness. If in due time the organizations continue to reject that call, then brethren will be ready to take well informed decisions. ...
What is the part of this work in all of this?
It is our part to sow the first seeds of sound doctrine, to restore that which has been lost or forgotten, to reveal that which has been hidden, to expound the New Covenant and to begin the process of preparing the bride for the coming of her LORD! (Malm, James. Shining Light. The State of the Work, 3 Sept 2017)
James Malm did NOT restore that which is lost, but repeatedly relies on his false tradition related to the 2300 days and evenings of Daniel. His main concern, often, seems to be his income.
Let me add that I do NOT take a salary from the Continuing Church of God and thus have never told people to send money so I could be supported.
We in the CCOG have put out a booklet, The Gospel of the Kingdom of God, in about 100 languages. We have congregations around the world. And I have personally traveled around the world to teach, preach the gospel of the kingdom, baptize, and encourage the brethren (cf. Matthew 24:24; 28:19-20).
7. James Malm’s “ministry” was incomplete. He failed to have or really support a ministry. The Bible is clear that a ministry is needed:
11 And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, 13 till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; 14 that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, 15 but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head–Christ– 16 from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love (Ephesians 4:11-16).
While James Malm had some pieces together, those who actually are willing to believe the Bible should not have supported him. Of course, the fact that some still support the proven wrong self-appointed “Elijah” Ronald Weinland seem to be willing to have overlooked his clear prophetic errors as well. But part of the point of a ministry is to reduce errors.
8. Elijah is to “restore all things” (Matthew 17:11), James Malm did not. Nor did I ever believe that he would. His implications that he believed he taught the law better than the other COGs sounded somewhat similar to claims that both RCG and PCG have made. Niether of those groups have come close to restoring “all things” and are like James Malm in that area. All three (RCG, PCG, & Shining Light) have leaders that have taken false titles and/or made false statements, while claiming that they truly teach and understand the law of God. Sadly, they really do not.
James Malm did not have an Elijah-type work and is not the Elijah to come.
James Malm was not doing the work of God. Elijah was not a false “accuser of the brethren,” but James Malm is.
Back on April 29, 2012, James Malm posted something that is clearly untrue, when he wrote, “Please do visit the Number One COG site for the news that counts and its prophetic implications.” He was referring to his tomorrowsnews.net site. So there is a ninth item I have added:
9. James Malm did not have the most popular COG news site. I was not going to post about this, but noticed that another site took him to task about that:
James Malm’s Arrogance and Who is the “Number One COG Site”?
It is becoming more and more obvious that James Malm’s delusions of grandeur know no end. He thinks a “certain blogger” is “dedicated” to attacking his site, when in reality, Church of God Perspective is dedicated to the truth, which is something that he cannot fathom because he is a liar and the truth is not in him. He is not the only liar I have exposed on this site, although I try to concentrate on promoting the truth rather than correct the hundreds of errors that false teachers promulgate. If it seems that he gets more mention on here than others when it comes to exposing deceit, then the reason is obviously because his teachings are more error-ridden than most others.
Besides misquoting me, Dr Robert Thiel, Herbert W Armstrong and numerous others, he now is making up “facts” wanting you to believe, in article “Prophecy marches on: Early elections for Israel”, that his news site is the “Number One COG site for the news that counts and its prophetic implications.”
Really? Where does he get his “facts”? As of today, what do the real ranking sites show?
Quantcast has this for his Tomorrow’s News: Today! site:
And The ShiningLight Blog!?
This site, in comparison, needs to be quantified as well. OK, I’m a slacker, but I’m now rectifying that situation, although it isn’t a news site and wouldn’t be a comparison to begin with. How about a real COG news site?
cogwriter.com…Dr Bob hasn’t done too bad for himself!…
There are pluses and minuses of using Quantcast, so what about Complete? Arguably, it is more accurate than either Quantcast or Alexa.
Really? No data for a “number one site”? Even this humble little site ranks 3,756,784! The ShiningLight Blog! by contrast is 473,283. However, COG Writer is:
Not looking like the Tomorrow’s News: Today! site is faring so well for a “number one COG site for the news”!
Well, OK, what about Alexa? Personally, I think their ratings are skewed, but some people put stock into what they publish.
Tomorrow’s News:
Ouch! At least The ShiningLight ranks 789,041. And, COGWriter?
Not only is Malm playing a silly game, but he is arrogant enough to lie about it.
In contrast, I could care less about anything but the truth.
As mentioned, I was not going to post about this, but decided that since this is so clear and obvious, that perhaps this could open the eyes of some of James Malms’ followers.
As far as Alexa rankings on the internet, on October 30, 2014, COGwriter.com was 143,427, while Shining Light was 520,252. COGwriter.com is still much more popular.
James Malm’s background had been a puzzle to some. He was asked to provide some info from a David C in a comment to a post and this is what is shown:
David B
May 28th, 2012 at 15:00
James would you give us some background on your calling. When Where, alone. ect ect.
That will have to wait for another time. Were you ever a member of WW Church. I was baptised by Robert Berendt and attended with WCG for 8 1/2 years.
Were you ever disfellowshipped. NO
Did you get discouraged by things that did not ad up. No, I was encouraged in myself [not by any elders] to study and search things out. I was disappointed by elders who agreed that I was right and then said that things were true, but it was not important because it did not come from HWA. I understand that some will turn to God now; and that most will repent during the trib. The fruits of this work will not be born to a large degree until well into the trib.
Such as eating out in restaurants and idoltry and adultery in the congregations.
The fact that there were cliques ect. ect.
Are there any of your family still in the church or are you alone like most of us. My eldest son [32] is in the faith and is of enormous help in computer support and advising me, as well as being a person with whom I can thrash out problems. James
(Malm, J. Comment posted re: David B, 5/28/12)
James Malm also posted the following:
I am watching, crying out and encouraging all to turn to God; which is the job of any man of God. There should be nothing unique or special about that, it is the job of ALL men of God to be faithful watchman!
(Malm, J. Comment posted re: George Schmidt, 5/31/12)
To reduce the weight of the site comments two years old and older comments have been deleted.
So, those who want to see more of the early mis-truths he posted will not be able to find them. Hopefully, enough are documented in this article and the related links so that those who want the truth about James Malm will realize that he is error-ridden.

Why does the Bible show that Ron Weinland is a false prophet? He has other views which show he is not part of the Church of God?
