Iran remains defiant and some see the USA caving to its demands
Nagasaki Nuclear Bomb (1945)

In these strange and unstable times in the Middle East one surprising and superficially positive event is ironically also a new major cause for concern. Iran and the United States of America, longstanding enemies, would appear to be close to lasting rapprochement. Rather than producing greater feelings of security and stability, such a new found ‘friendship’ might well add to the general uncertainty in the region. The results could swing in quite contradictory directions: it might prompt other countries to follow suit and pursue better relations with each other, or it might encourage major players in the region to seek greater leverage in the shaky balance of power..Several countries, for instance, are concerned that Iran may use such a rapprochement to consolidate its leading position in the Middle East. Not only does Iran have the largest population in the region, it has consistently sought to spread its Islamic revolution beyond its borders. Relations between Saudi Arabia and the United States have been strained for quite some time now. The U.S.’s handling of the so-called ‘Arab Spring’ has been resented by the Saudis, especially their courting of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt. Naturally enough the Arab Spring has made countries such as Saudi Arabia nervous that revolution might spread. http://www.worldtribune.com/2014/02/05/shifting-sands-obama-tips-the-balance-of-mideast-power-in-irans-favor-for-unclear-reasons/
Yesterday, the Iranian press published the following:
TEHRAN – Pressure from the United States will not compel Iran to change its nuclear policies, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Marzieh Afkham said on Friday…
In an interview with CNN published on Wednesday, Kerry commented on the six-month interim nuclear deal reached between Iran and the 5+1 group, which came into force on January 20, and said, “Now, we have people in there every single day. We’ve actually frozen their program in place and have rolled it back to the degree that they’re destroying some of their stockpile.”He also said, “Now, that’s for the next six months only. If there isn’t an agreement, we have the right to extend, if we thought we were making progress. But if there isn’t an agreement, every option, including increased sanctions or anything else is available to the president of the United States. So we have given up absolutely nothing here. http://tehrantimes.com/politics/113950-pressure-will-not-compel-iran-to-change-nuclear-policy-
Iran claims that it has not given up anything and will not change its policies. Yet, negotiations are going on that many wonder what in the world is the USA doing. Notice something also about the meeting for today:
February 8, 2014
Saturday’s meeting comes 10 days before Tehran and world powers, building on a landmark interim deal that took effect last month, start talks on a long-term accord on Iran’s nuclear aspirations that would avert the threat of a Middle East war…
Diplomats are cautiously optimistic that after Saturday’s talks in Tehran the team of senior IAEA inspectors will be able to show at least some progress in gaining Iran’s cooperation. http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/02/08/us-iran-nuclear-iaea-idUSBREA1618220140208
Mainly it seems that the UN wants to be able to say inspectors made progress? This does not seem to be a particularly bold goal. The world has been told that the goal is to basically stop Iran from developing nuclear weapons. Yet right now, the UN is just hoping that Iran will cooperate some with inspectors? This would not seem to prevent Iran from making at least some nuclear progress.
Parts of this deal is putting Israel and the USA at risk for terrorist attacks from ‘dirty bombs’ (bombs that have radioactive components) and possibly nuclear bombs in the future from Iran. Iran also may have EMP capability which could hurt the USA or Israel or ?
Notice also the following:
Iranian state TV on Friday ran a documentary featuring a computerized video of Iran’s drones and missiles bombing Tel Aviv, Haifa, Ben Gurion Airport and the Dimona nuclear reactor in a hypothetical retaliation for an Israeli or American strike on the Islamic Republic. Iranian drones and missiles are also shown carrying out simulated strikes on the American aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, downing American aircraft and striking American military targets in the Persian Gulf. The clip was broadcast amid a clear escalation of anti-American rhetoric and even action by Iran: On Saturday, an Iranian admiral announced that Iran had despatched warships to the North Atlantic, while Iran’s spiritual leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei denounced the Americans as liars who, while professing to be friends of Iran, would bring down his regime if they could. He also said it was “amusing” that the US thought Iran would reduce its “defensive capabilities.” http://www.timesofisrael.com/iranian-tv-airs-simulated-bombing-of-tel-aviv/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter
Iran’s use of such items, especially if anything nuclear is involved, may well result in its neutralization. As regular readers of the COGwriter news page are aware, I have been warning for some time that a regional war involving Iran, Israel, the USA, and/or Syria seems likely.
Since Iran, however, is NOT really south of Jerusalem (though it may support such a king per certain interpretations of the peoples listed in Ezekiel 30:1-9), it will not be the final King of the South of Bible prophecy (cf. Daniel 11:40-43). Because of that, I have tended to believe that Iran may somehow get “neutralized” before this final king rises up. A serious attack by the USA and/or Israel may neutralize Iran and much of its influence–but Iran might hit hard first.
“Neutralizing” Iran would allow most of the other Islamic states (like Saudi Arabia and Egypt) to continue to exist (Syria might not do well per Isaiah 17:1) and allow for the rising of the prophesied King of the South to rise up (revolution in Iran, is also another possibility, for its “neutralization”). Israel has stated in the past that it will stop Iranian nuclear ambitions whether or not the USA will support it doing so.
Yet, Iran may have a role in Isaiah 22 and this will not bode well for Israel (and probably ultimately not Iran). The USA, itself, may also be damaged.
The top leadership of Iran has a Shi’ite Muslim agenda, which they have concluded includes causing chaos and war. I, for one, do not believe that Iran’s leaders have given up on their goals of Islamic domination. Comments today that Iran has not given anything up and will not give up its goals are consistent with my assessment here.
