35% of Americans have debts turned over to collection agencies

A new report claims that 35% of USA Americans have debts which have been turned over to collection agencies:

WASHINGTON —

More than 35 percent of Americans have debts and unpaid bills that have been reported to collection agencies, according to a study released Tuesday by the Urban Institute.

These consumers fall behind on credit cards or hospital bills. Their mortgages, auto loans or student debt pile up, unpaid. Even past-due gym membership fees or cellphone contracts can end up with a collection agency, potentially hurting credit scores and job prospects, said Caroline Ratcliffe, a senior fellow at the Washington-based think tank.

“Roughly, every third person you pass on the street is going to have debt in collections,” Ratcliffe said. “It can tip employers’ hiring decisions, or whether or not you get that apartment.”

The study found that 35.1 percent of people with credit records had been reported to collections for debt that averaged $5,178, based on September 2013 records…

Wages have barely kept up with inflation during the five-year recovery, according to Labor Department figures. In the covetous American society, it is little wonder that debt is such a problem. Of course, this is a problem both for individuals who are in debt and the USA as a whole, as it is in debt more than any nation in the history of humanity.

Debt was prophesied as a curse for disobedience. Notice a few scriptures:

43 The alien who is among you shall rise higher and higher above you, and you shall come down lower and lower. 44 He shall lend to you, but you shall not lend to him; he shall be the head, and you shall be the tail. 45 Moreover all these curses shall come upon you and pursue and overtake you, until you are destroyed…47 “Because you did not serve the LORD your God with joy and gladness of heart, for the abundance of everything, 48 therefore you shall serve your enemies, whom the LORD will send against you, in hunger, in thirst, in nakedness, and in need of everything; and He will put a yoke of iron on your neck until He has destroyed you. 49 The LORD will bring a nation against you from afar, from the end of the earth, as swift as the eagle flies, a nation whose language you will not understand, 50 a nation of fierce countenance, which does not respect the elderly nor show favor to the young. 51 And they shall eat the increase of your livestock and the produce of your land, until you are destroyed; they shall not leave you grain or new wine or oil, or the increase of your cattle or the offspring of your flocks, until they have destroyed you. 52 They shall besiege you at all your gates until your high and fortified walls, in which you trust, come down throughout all your land; and they shall besiege you at all your gates throughout all your land which the LORD your God has given you (Deuteronomy 28:42-45,47-52).

As far as the report that real income has not risen in the five years since the USA has supposedly been in economic recovery, let me simply state that since the USA began to legalize abortion, the financial standard of living of its people overall has stagnated, as opposed to increasing as it had previously. In real terms, as mentioned above, US growth in the 21st century seems to have fallen back to medieval levels. Why?…Because the economy failed to produce real growth. Coincidence or curse? The reality is that prior to abortions becoming “legalized” in the late 1960s and then nationally in 1973, most people in the USA seemed to understand that it was not wise to consume more than you produce. Now, with more abortion and less understanding of other basic biblically-supported economic concepts, a culture that accepts this type of debt and living off of others has flourished. But it will NOT last.

Additionally, the various court/political decisions this week related to homosexual marriage in states such as Virginia and North Carolina only add the sins of the USA and its risk of destruction as Romans 1:18-32 point out. Add to that increased societal acceptance of various forms of pornography, and the recipe for disaster is being concocted.

Many seemingly believe that the USA will not suffer total collapse, but they are in error. The Bible teaches that event the nation with the strongest military will be taken over (cf.
