Egypt calls for ‘King of the South’ military

Egypt’s top leader is calling for the development of a military force consistent with biblical prophecy:

Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has said that a pan-Arab military force is needed to combat terrorism.
He told Egyptian state TV that the need for such a unified force was “growing and becoming more pressing every day” because of the huge challenges faced by the region.
“We will be able to overcome such challenges when we unite together,” he said.
Mr Sisi added that several countries, including Jordan, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, had offered military assistance against Islamic State (IS) after the militants released a video that appeared to show the beheadings of 21 Egyptian Christians. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-31580130

CAIRO—
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi told his countrymen, in a televised national address late Sunday, that Egypt is hoping to be part of a new Arab joint defense force, which is now under consideration by the Arab League.
Sissi insisted Egypt has always sought to defend itself “from inside its own borders,” without intentionally aggressing its neighbors. …
Al Hayat newspaper recently noted a joint Arab defense pact already exists, dating back to 1950. A number of Arab states have fought alongside Egypt in its conflicts with Israel. Egypt also participated in the 1991 Gulf War to liberate Kuwait.
American University of Beirut political science Professor Hilal Khashan says all previous efforts of Arab states to form a joint military force since 1948, “on the eve of the Palestine War [which led to the creation of Israel] have failed.”
But Khashan points out Saudi Arabia’s new King Salman has been pondering the formation of a “joint Sunni force,” including Egypt and its arch-rival Turkey.
“The new Saudi King Salman, in his bid to open up to the [Muslim] Brotherhood, has been applying pressure on [President] Sissi to resolve his conflicts with the Brotherhood so that relations between Turkey and Egypt can be improved. Salman wants to create a Sunni [Arab] force, consisting of Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, and Turkey,” said Khashan.
Given the current tensions between Egypt and Turkey, which is now home to a number of Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood leaders, the probability of forming such a force is questionable. http://www.voanews.com/content/egypt-calls-for-joint-arab-defense-force/2655564.html
So, Egypt wants a pan-Arabic military force to combat terrorism. Despite how ‘questionable’ this may be in the short-run, the Bible tells of a military force that will form which will involve Egypt and a leader it refers to as the King of the South:
2 “Son of man, prophesy and say: ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says:
“‘Wail and say, “Alas for that day!” 3 For the day is near, the day of the LORD is near- a day of clouds, a time of doom for the nations. 4 A sword will come against Egypt, and anguish will come upon Cush. When the slain fall in Egypt, her wealth will be carried away and her foundations torn down.
5 Cush and Put, Lydia and all Arabia, Libya and the people of the covenant land will fall by the sword along with Egypt.
6 “‘This is what the LORD says:
“‘The allies of Egypt will fall and her proud strength will fail. From Migdol to Aswan they will fall by the sword within her, declares the Sovereign LORD. 7 “‘They will be desolate among desolate lands, and their cities will lie among ruined cities. 8 Then they will know that I am the LORD, when I set fire to Egypt and all her helpers are crushed.
9 “‘On that day messengers will go out from me in ships to frighten Cush out of her complacency. Anguish will take hold of them on the day of Egypt’s doom, for it is sure to come (Ezekiel 30:2-9, NIV).
40 “At the time of the end the king of the South will engage him in battle, and the king of the North will storm out against him with chariots and cavalry and a great fleet of ships. He will invade many countries and sweep through them like a flood. 41He will also invade the Beautiful Land. Many countries will fall, but Edom, Moab and the leaders of Ammon will be delivered from his hand. 42 He will extend his power over many countries; Egypt will not escape. 43 He will gain control of the treasures of gold and silver and all the riches of Egypt, with the Libyans and Cushitese in submission. (Daniel 11:40-43, NIV)
I intentionally cited the NIV as it does not make the translation mistake of putting the word “Ethiopians” in as the references in the original Hebrew means Cushites, and this does NOT have to include the nation currently referred to as Ethiopia.
Anyway, part of why I bold some of the scriptures is to point out that the confederation of primarily Arabic states that Ezekiel 30:2-9 and Daniel 11:40-43 refer to is for the end times.
Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi is calling for something that could develop into the type of military that will be involved in those end time prophecies. While the end is not yet, we are getting closer and world events show that leaders are calling for steps consistent with end time Bible prophecies.
While Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi wants to end terrorism, at best he will be able to somewhat control it. Terrorism is (Leviticus 26:14-17; Deuteronomy 32:25; Ezekiel 21:12; Psalms 73:12,19; Proverbs 1:25-27) and the peoples of Egypt will likely also be involved in it (cf. Psalm 83:3-8). Bible prophecy shows that Egypt itself will not fare well with the type of military force that Abdel Fattah al-Sisi seems to be calling for (Daniel 11:40-43; Ezekiel 30:2-9).
It will take the return of Jesus Christ and the establishment of His Kingdom to truly bring peace and lasting prosperity to Egypt. The current call for a pan-Arabic military will not truly bring peace, though it could help lead to a temporal peace deal that will not end well (cf. Daniel 9:27; see also The ‘Peace Deal’ of Daniel 9:27).
