‘Islamic State’ terror group foiled in Rio before the Olympics

There was an Islamic terrorist group foiled in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil today:

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Ten Brazilians who pledged allegiance to the Islamic State militant group were arrested Thursday, authorities announced, describing them as “amateurs” who discussed on social media the possibility of staging attacks during next month’s Olympics.

Justice Minister Alexandre de Moraes said in the capital, Brasilia, that the 10 were being held on two terrorism-related charges and that two more people were being sought.

Authorities said any attack plan would have had little chance of coming to fruition, citing the group’s lack of resources and skills.

But officials and security experts argued that police were justified in being aggressive in light of “lone wolf” attacks staged in the U.S. and Europe by men with little or no training.

Moraes said police acted because the group discussed using weapons and guerrilla tactics to potentially launch an attack during the Olympics, which begin in Rio de Janeiro on Aug. 5. The Summer Olympics is a high-profile event. It is good that the authorities arrested those who wanted to cause terror.

Of course, not all terror will be stopped in this age as terror is prophesied:

25 The sword shall destroy outside; There shall be terror within (Deuteronomy 32:25)

12 “Cry and wail, son of man; For it will be against My people, Against all the princes of Israel. Terrors including the sword will be against My people; Therefore strike your thigh. (Ezekiel 21:12) 12 Behold, these are the ungodly,Who are always at ease; They increase in riches…19 Oh, how they are brought to desolation, as in a moment! They are utterly consumed with terrors. (Psalms 73:12,19)

25 Because you disdained all my counsel, And would have none of my rebuke, 26 I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your terror comes, 27 When your terror comes like a storm, And your destruction comes like a whirlwind, When distress and anguish come upon you. (Proverbs 1:25-27)

Many, though not most, Muslims believe that terrorism is something to be utilized to bring about the type of change that many want.

And they can point to their religious writings and leaders for ‘justification.’

The above seems to suggest that you act like ordinary neighbors for a time and then react against them.

This seems to have happened with the terrorist killings in San Bernadino, California:

The San Bernardino shooters who were killed by police, Syed Rizwan Farook and Tashfeen Malik, have been identified by law enforcement as a Muslim husband and wife team who began their day by dropping their 6–month–old baby at a family member’s home, saying they were headed out to a doctor’s appointment. http://www.wnd.com/2015/12/dead-shooter-idd-devout-muslim-syed-farook/

They were Muslims who lied. The male shooter had been arguing with a man at an office Christmas party that Islam was not violent. He then left and killed people, including the one he tried to tell that Islam was not violent.

Is this consistent with Islam?

Notice the following Islamic teachings related to deceit and terror from the Bukhari:

Bukhari 3,49,857 Muhammad said, “A man who brings peace to the people by making up good words or by saying nice things, though untrue, does not lie.”

Bukhari 4,52,267 Muhammad cried out, “Jihad is deceit.”

Bukhari 5,59,369 Bin Maslama volunteered to kill an enemy for Muhammad, then said, “Give me permission to deceive him with lies so that my plot will succeed.” Muhammad replied, “You may speak falsely to him.”

Bukhari 8,78,618 Abu Bakr, the prophet Muhammad’s closest friend and adviser and first convert to Islam, said, “If I make a pledge and later discover a more worthy pledge, then I will take the better action and make amends for my earlier promise.” (As published in Boone P. Murder and bearing false witness are wrong and in violation of the Ten Commandments (see also The Ten Commandments Reflect Love, Breaking them is Evil).

These prophetic traditions, or hadith, were collected by the Persian Muslim scholar Muhammad al-Bukhari, after being transmitted orally for generations. In other words, trusted collections of Islamic written traditions says that Muslims should lie and kill. Well, unless all Muslims will denounce these writings, people should realize the dangers that their religion poses.

It is not that all Muslims want to be terrorists (or that all terrorists are Muslim), and my personal encounters with Muslims have always been positive, but the faith that many Western politicians (including the most recent Republican and Democrat US presidents) have in Islam by referring to it as a “religion of peace” is simply not peaceful according to some of its trusted writings.

Terrorism is not going to bring about real peace. And, thankfully at least some hopeful terrorists were stopped in Brazil.
