Donald Trump tweets a tariff reprieve for ‘real friends,’ but now wants to deal with $600 billion problem with China

White House officials said Mexico and Canada would get a 30-day exemption that could be extended.

While this is basically good news for Canada and Mexico, there remain trade issues that Donald Trump wants to negotiate with them. So, this tariff reprieve looks like a negotiating tactic and threat.

But there is another trade issue that Donald Trump wants to deal with. Notice the following:

US President Donald Trump’s steel tariffs have caused China to warn of trade wars and potential damage to the US economy, but steel tariffs are nothing compared to the coming fight over intellectual property theft.

Experts estimate that Chinese intellectual property theft costs the US $600 billion a year, possibly the “greatest transfer of wealth in history.”

But by angering the international community with protectionist practices like tariffs, experts question how Trump will rally sufficient support against China’s intellectual property theft.

President Donald Trump hinted on Wednesday at what experts predict will become the major economic and diplomatic clash between US and China — and it will make steel and aluminum tariffs look like small potatoes.

After tweeting that he had asked China to come up with plans to reduce the US trade deficit, Trump brought up a separate, but even more important issue of intellectual property theft.

“The U.S. is acting swiftly on Intellectual Property theft. We cannot allow this to happen as it has for many years!” Trump tweeted.

Trump asked China to cut the trade deficit by one billion dollars, but retired PACOM commander Adm. Dennis Blair and retired US Army Gen. Trump and his advisers are also correct that economic strength is a matter of national security—and that right now China plays that game much more effectively than the U.S. does. China routinely forces foreign companies to turn over their intellectual property—the crown jewels of any corporation—as the price for doing business in the country. The Made in China 2025 project aims to develop domestic sources for a wide array of advanced technologies, something that would reduce its dependence on potential adversaries such as the U.S. and Japan. The 2018 National Defense Strategy document prepared by the Pentagon accuses China and Russia of “undermining the international order from within.”

It’s important to credit Trump on these points, because a lot of commentators have dismissed his promise of metals tariffs as nothing more than a play for votes or an eruption of machismo. They may be that, but they’re not only that. None other than Michael Froman, who was President Obama’s chief trade negotiator and is no friend of Trump’s, said on Feb. 5: “It is in our national interest to have a strong steel and aluminum industry domestically.”

The tragedy is that Trump has made the U.S., rather than China, the focus of the world’s opprobrium. So, a major international trade deal is now being made without the USA.

While Canada is part of CPTPP, ultimately it will mainly stick with the USA. And partially due to Brexit, so will the UK. The world order is changing.

Europe is outraged (see Europe upset: Can a trade war lead to a military war? and ‘EU trade commissioner Cecilia Malmstrom set out plans to retaliate against the proposed US tariffs.’ Did Steve Bannon just tell Europe to implement 666?), and irrespective of China’s handling of various matters, Europe will one day basically work with China against the USA, etc.

Europe is upset with the USA in general and Donald Trump in particular. Furthermore, Europe is not going to ‘get over’ the Brexit and will one day take actions that most of those in the UK (as well as USA and Canada) will not consider possible (cf. Daniel 8:24-25, 11:39; see also USA in Prophecy: The Strongest Fortresses).

Understand that the current Anglo-American dominated world order will NOT continue (watch End of the Anglo-American Order and/or The New World Order Is Leaving the US Behind).

Trade issues will be a factor.

The end time Beast power that will dominate world trade will be European (cf. Revelation 13 and 17) and NOT American.

We are seeing major shifts in attitudes towards trade and this will not end will for the USA (Daniel 11:39; see also USA in Prophecy: The Strongest Fortresses) nor its Anglo-Saxon descended allies (Daniel 8:24-25).
