Boris Johnson has promised the “beginning of a new golden age”, as he made his first Commons statement as PM. …
On Brexit, he told MPs, minister Michael Gove would make planning for a no-deal Brexit a “top priority”.
Despite emphasising the importance of preparing for a no deal, Mr Johnson said he would “much prefer” to leave the EU with a deal and added that he will work “flat out to make it happen”.

LONDON (AP) — British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has called on the European Union to “rethink” its refusal to renegotiate the Brexit deal, as he pledged to throw all his energy into making sure Britain leaves the bloc on time on Oct. 31.
Addressing a rowdy session of Parliament for the first time since becoming prime minister, Johnson pledged Thursday to take a new approach. Rejecting the Brexit withdrawal agreement negotiated by his fellow Conservative predecessor, Theresa May, he insisted that while he wanted a deal, the country was better prepared than widely believed to leave the bloc without one.
“I hope that the EU will be equally ready and that they will rethink their current refusal to make any changes to the Withdrawal Agreement,” he said. “If they do not, we will, of course, have to leave — the U.K. — without an agreement.” …
The EU is adamant that it will not renegotiate the agreement struck with May on the terms of Britain’s departure and the framework of future relations. Without it, Britain faces a chaotic Brexit that economists warn would disrupt trade by imposing tariffs and customs checks between Britain and the bloc, send the value of the pound plummeting and plunge the U.K. into recession. …

No, this is not truly the beginning of a new golden age for the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
And there will be a rocky road ahead for Boris Johnson.

However others, like Jürgen Hardt, the CDU’s foreign policy spokesman, may need more convincing.
“Boris Johnson is certainly not an easy partner (to work with),” he told DW. “He has a strong personality. Having said that I don’t think he’s got this far only to throw it all away in a short space of time, which is why he’ll want to avoid a snap election and will have to deliver a Brexit deal that the British public can live with.” …
Ralf Stegner, deputy leader of the SPD, also sounded a cautious note. “Johnson belongs to the breed of politicians who say this today and that tomorrow. In this respect, surprises are certainly possible and the majorities in the British Parliament have not changed. They are very critical of it, and rightly so because Brexit would not only be difficult for Europe, but also presumably economically catastrophic for Britain.”
Stegner didn’t mince his words when asked about Johnson’s qualifications as prime minister. “We haven’t exactly been spoiled [for choice],” he told DW. “Theresa May didn’t achieve much and looking at the US we know that things can always get worse. And my fear is that Johnson falls into that mold. Some of his positions are confused and confusing and in parts even anti-European and I think we’ll see him aligning more closely with Donald Trump.”
‘Serial liar’
Franziska Brantner, Europe policy spokeswoman for the Green party, was equally scathing in her assessment of how Johnson will handle Brexit. “Johnson has been a serial liar when it comes to Europe so we expect that it will be difficult. We hope that Parliament will be the voice of reason and will prevent a no-deal Brexit,” she told DW.

As far as Brexit and economic matters go, yes, it will be disruptive. And it already has been.
Ralf Stegner’s comment that Boris Johnson will more closely align with Donald Trump is consistent with something I posted 11 years ago:
Trade wars and/or serious trade disputes will most likely arise.
The Brits will ultimately decide that they are more supportive of the Americans and Canadians. They will be so much more supportive that they will end up in a trading agreement with them (with the Australians and New Zealanders probably also becoming part of that agreement).
The EU will decide that Mexico and the rest of Latin America are in more agreement with it and thus make some type of serious trading agreement with most (or all) of Latin America. The Vatican will also have influence here as Latin America is highly Roman Catholic.
The Europeans and Americans, however, will continue to have military agreements, though many will be tense about them. (Thiel B. A Combined EU & North American Trade Block Coming? COGwriter.com, March 3, 2008)
Now, Mexico and the Mercosur block of Latin America have made trade agreements consistent with the above (see EU’s Juncker essentially verified accuracy of 2008 COGwriter prediction on trade).
As far as the UK moving closer to the USA and farther away from Europe because of Brexit, I repeatedly have warned about that. Notice something from my book Donald Trump and America’s Apocalypse:

2016 was a turning point for Europe. The vote by the United Kingdom to leave the European Union on June 23, 2016 (called the Brexit), shocked Europe as did the election of Donald Trump on November 8, 2016. …
Donald Trump’s rise has also spurred the Europeans to further unify among themselves, especially when combined with the Brexit vote that Donald Trump encouraged. While the Bible shows the Europeans will have difficulties being together (Daniel 2:41-43), it also shows that they will reorganize and unite (Revelation 17:12-13). Donald Trump has been pointed to by various European leaders as ‘proof’ that Europe needs more unification and distance from the USA.
Donald Trump’s policies and statements have also been pushing the Europeans away from the USA.
Furthermore, Brexit will impact the economy of the UK and the EU.
Various banks and financial institutions have either left or are in the process of leaving the UK for the European continent.
And while that is impacting London’s ability to be as important of a financial center, this does not mean that all will go well for the European bankers.
Furthermore, Brexit may well be a factor in the contributing to an economic crisis that will one day cause reorganize and unite under the coming Beast as laid out in Revelation 17:12-13.
The late Pastor General of the old Worldwide Church of God, Herbert W. Armstrong, had a view about banking matters and European unity. Here is something he said in a sermon on July 7, 1984:
And I can see now, the event that is going to trigger the formation of the reunification in Europe; the resurrection of the medieval Holy Roman Empire that we’ve been looking forward to that is prophesied to come…
But I believe that some event is going to happen suddenly just like out a blue sky that is going to shock the whole world and is going to cause the nations in Europe to realize they must unite! … Well now I think I can see what may be the very event that is going to trigger…that is the economic situation in the world…
The whole banking structure in the United States is a network all jointed together. But not only that, one nation has to deal with other nations and imports and exports. And so they have to have a means of transforming money from one nation to another. And so the banking structure is international and interwoven…
Now when the financial structure breaks down, all civilization is going to break down…
So, an economic or banking crisis is what Herbert W. Armstrong concluded would drive Europe to unite.
Brexit, as well as issues with the United States, would logically be a factor.
Now, while the true ‘golden age’ will not start until the millennial portion of the Kingdom of God, the UK still may experience various times of prosperity before it is taken over.
The following involves the UK, USA, and Canada one day be taken over by the coming European Beast power (called a “king” below):
23 “And in the latter time of their kingdom, When the transgressors have reached their fullness, A king shall arise, Having fierce features, Who understands sinister schemes. 24 His power shall be mighty, but not by his own power; He shall destroy fearfully, And shall prosper and thrive; He shall destroy the mighty, and also the holy people. 25 “Through his cunning He shall cause deceit to prosper under his rule; And he shall exalt himself in his heart. He shall destroy many in their prosperity. (Daniel 8:23-25a)
The UK will be among the many destroyed in “their prosperity.”
Boris Johnson will not be able to stop that, no matter if he does or does not make much of a deal with the EU or brings in something he may call the ‘golden age.’
Biblical prophecies involving Ephraim are normally directed towards the UK and the other British-descended peoples. With that in mind, understand that the following points to the end of the UK:
3 The fortress also will cease from Ephraim, … 4 “In that day it shall come to pass That the glory of Jacob will wane, And the fatness of his flesh grow lean. (Isaiah 3a,4)
Whatever ‘golden age’ Boris Johnson says he is beginning, it will not end well for the UK.
The UK needs national repentance.
While that is not likely, personal repentance is something that can happen for those who are willing to obey God (see also the free online booklet: Is God Calling You?).
