Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard said on Wednesday that it launched a military satellite into orbit amid wider tensions with the United States, describing it as a successful launch after months of failures. …

The U.S. alleges such satellite launches defy a U.N. Security Council resolution calling on Iran to undertake no activity related to ballistic missiles capable of delivering nuclear weapons. American officials, as well as European nations, worry that these launches could help Iran develop intercontinental ballistic missiles capable of carrying nuclear weapons.

Iran, which long has said it does not seek nuclear weapons, previously maintained its satellite launches and rocket tests do not have a military component. Why Iran is still attacking American troops during the pandemic

Iran is using the United States as a scapegoat amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Iran has been decimated by the spread of the novel coronavirus, with more than 83,000 diagnosed cases and 5,200 deaths as of April 20 — at least according to official figures, which are likely much lower than the real numbers. One official from the country’s medical council estimates that the total number of positive cases could be as high as half a million.

The country’s economy is in shambles, to the point that the Iranian government has chosen to resume what President Hassan Rouhani calls “low-risk business activities,” even as public health experts in the country warn of the consequences and urge Iranians to continue to stay at home. And the drastic drop in the price of crude oil will only serve to further weaken Iran’s already weakened economy.

But if you thought a deadly pandemic and staggering economic crisis would be enough to convince Iran to at least pause its efforts to confront the United States in the Middle East, you’d be wrong.

Despite the crippling toll of the pandemic, which has infected several high-ranking members of the regime as well as untold numbers of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), Tehran has continued to work tirelessly to eject the last remaining US forces from Iraq and consolidate its influence over the Iraqi political establishment. …

Last week, the IRGC resumed provocative actions in the Persian Gulf, harassing the US Navy there. …

So why, in the midst of grappling with an out-of-control pandemic and an economy in free fall, would Tehran devote time and money to fighting the US? The answer, at least in part, is that the Iranian government believes the United States is particularly weak right now, too. …

  • Nearly a dozen vessels from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy took “dangerous and provocative” actions near U.S. Navy and Coast Guard ships in the Gulf, the Pentagon said.
  • At one point, the Iranian ships came within 10 yards of the U.S. Coast Guard cutter Maui’s bow.
  • The latest revelation represents another brick in the crumbling edifice between Washington and Tehran. …

“We’ve seen this before, where the Iranians behave in ways that were inconsistent with international law … We’ve talked as a team we’ve talked across the interagency. After posting that last week, I wrote:

Iran is risking military conflict and should consider that US politicians sometimes engage in military operations to help redirect people’s attentions and to get re-elected.

Today, US President Donald Trump tweeted the following:

Some in Iran believe that causing chaos is a necessary step for a leader known as the Imam Mahdi to arise and make the world Islamic–and they hope under Iranian leadership–but Iran is NOT prophesied to lead the Islamic world (cf. Daniel 11:40-43).

Yet, furthermore, consider that Isaiah 22:1-10 shows that a time is coming when God will take away the protection of Judah and the City of David (Jerusalem, cf. 2 Kings 9:28) and that Iran and Syria will be involved in causing that.

It is likely that matter will be a factor in the temporary peace that will come to the Middle East (cf. Daniel 9:27, see also The ‘Peace Deal’ of Daniel 9:27).

What is going on now?

As I have written many times:

Expect Iran to overplay its hand and believe it is more powerful than it really is. Israel, and perhaps even the USA, apparently will be negatively affected by Iran.

It should be pointed out that the Bible shows that Iran will not end up faring well. Notice the following prophecy which indicates at least part of its destruction before the latter days:

34 The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet against Elam, in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, saying, 35 “Thus says the Lord of hosts:

‘Behold, I will break the bow of Elam,
The foremost of their might.
36 Against Elam I will bring the four winds
From the four quarters of heaven,
And scatter them toward all those winds;
There shall be no nations where the outcasts of Elam will not go.
37 For I will cause Elam to be dismayed before their enemies
And before those who seek their life.
I will bring disaster upon them,
My fierce anger,’ says the Lord;
‘And I will send the sword after them
Until I have consumed them.
38 I will set My throne in Elam,
And will destroy from there the king and the princes,’ says the Lord. (Jeremiah 49:34-38)

So, what’s next for Iran?

Iran is having problems with its economy and the novel coronavirus. The recent collapse of oil prices may also hit Iran very hard.

Its leaders may well conclude that they need to do something to distract the minds of their citizens, like planning and then taking military action. Like, perhaps fairly soon, having a military attack against Israel.

But, though Israel is prophesied to have damage (Isaiah 22:6-10), Iran will not do well.

Despite Iranian religious and nationalistic hopes, Iran will not be the power that leads the Islamic nations in the Middle East and North Africa–that will be an Arabic power (cf. Daniel 11:40-43; Ezekiel 30:2-8).

Is Donald Trump fulfilling Ezekiel 32 related to Iran?

On December 27, 2019, Iranian-connected individuals were believed to have killed an American contractor. On Sunday, December 29, 2019, US President Donald Trump ordered a strike in Iraq that killed dozens of Iranian supporting Iraqis. The next two days there were protests at the US Embassy in Iraq. Then on January 2, 2020, US President authorized a drone strike that killed Iranian General Qasem Soleimani, a top commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, the Baghdad International Airport. Could this be related to prophecies such as Ezekiel 32:24-25? What about Ezekiel 38? Is Iran (and allies like Syria) prophesied to attack Israel and cause damage to Jerusalem? Could Iran use EMP weapons and/or terrorism in retaliation against the US? Will Iran one day be neutralized? Will Ezekiel 32 be completely fulfilled in the future? Iran’s leadership could be getting increasingly desperate–as are many of its citizens. Desperate people sometimes take dramatic and even deadly actions.

The prophesied coming damage to Jerusalem from an Iranian-Syrian confederation (Isaiah 22:1-14) looks to be a prelude to a temporal peace in the region (cf. Daniel 9:27; The ‘Peace Deal’ of Daniel 9:27).

But that peace deal would only be temporary and later followed by destruction (1 Thessalonians 5:3).

True, and lasting, peace will not come until after the return of Jesus Christ and the establishment of the Kingdom of God.

But now, we see rising tensions.

Iran is a place to watch (cf. Mark 13:37).
