The coronavirus could tear the EU apart
Almost as soon as the coronavirus arrived in Europe, countries began turning inward, putting their own citizens’ needs first and ignoring pleas for help from their neighbors. European Union member states closed their borders for the first time in decades, and competed against each other for vital medical supplies, including ventilators.
But the biggest rifts between the nations have opened up during recent negotiations over an economic rescue package, which pitted richer countries against poorer ones — just like during the eurozone debt crisis at the beginning of the previous decade.
The ongoing pandemic is testing the concept of European solidarity. Earlier this month, German Chancellor Angela Merkel called it the biggest test the EU has ever faced.
While the full extent of the fallout remains to be seen, many observers and experts are worried that the pandemic could upend more than seven decades of European integration.
“Everybody is very much focused on the national situation,” Stefan Lehne, a visiting scholar at the Carnegie Europe think tank, told me. “This doesn’t mean that the EU will be at an end, but it might end up weaker.”
A widening of the EU’s north-south divide could lead to a new financial crisis on the continent
The European Central Bank (ECB) reportedly warned eurozone finance ministers earlier this month that financial stimulus measures of up to €1.5 trillion ($1.6 trillion) may be required to counter the economic crisis caused by the coronavirus. The ECB further estimated that the bloc’s economy could contract by 10 percent this year. Those dire predictions came after the ECB launched a temporary $750 billion debt-buying program in March to keep borrowing costs low.

While the Bible does not specify whether or not the Euro will continue to exist, it does say that the coming Beast dictator will value and acquire gold (Daniel 11:38-43; watch also Germany, Gold, and the US Dollar).
Yes, the Euro is at risk. Yes, there is a divide in Europe. Many in Europe are fearful of the economic consequences of COVID-19.

Following statements from various political leaders, Luxembourg Cardinal Jean-Claude Hollerich voiced concerns that COVID-19 could lead to the end of the European Union as nationalism is pushing out European solidarity. Could the EU break apart? Could the Euro collapse? Does the Bible tell of unity problems for Europe in Daniel 2? Does the Bible teach that Europe will reorganize and give its power to a totalitarian dictator called the Beast from the sea? How will the prophesied European unity come about? What did Austrian researcher Tamara Ehs warn related to European democracy and authoritarianism? Was the late Herbert W. Armstrong correct about his apocalyptic 20th century warnings related to fear and religion uniting Europe? Will the ‘beast from the earth’ be the final Antichrist and a type of antipope? What does the Bible show about Europe?
Well, the Old Testament prophesies that it will have unity problems:
40 And the fourth kingdom shall be as strong as iron, inasmuch as iron breaks in pieces and shatters everything; and like iron that crushes, that kingdom will break in pieces and crush all the others. 41 Whereas you saw the feet and toes, partly of potter’s clay and partly of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; yet the strength of the iron shall be in it, just as you saw the iron mixed with ceramic clay. 42 And as the toes of the feet were partly of iron and partly of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong and partly fragile. 43 As you saw iron mixed with ceramic clay, they will mingle with the seed of men; but they will not adhere to one another, just as iron does not mix with clay. (Daniel 2:40-43)
And the New Testament shows that Europe will reorganize (see also Must the Ten Kings of Revelation 17:12 Rule over Ten Currently Existing Nations?), rise up, and be led by a dictator called the Beast:
12 “The ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have received no kingdom as yet, but they receive authority for one hour as kings with the beast. 13 These are of one mind, and they will give their power and authority to the beast. (Revelation 17:12-13)
This reorganization will change Europe!
The EU will NOT function as it has.
Notice something from the late WCG Pastor General, Herbert W. Armstrong said in a sermon on July 7, 1984:
And I can see now, the event that is going to trigger the formation of the reunification in Europe; the resurrection of the medieval Holy Roman Empire that we’ve been looking forward to that is prophesied to come …

And so they have to have a means of transferring money from one nation to another. And so the banking structure is international and interwoven. Things started out with the first man Adam rather simply. God’s things are usually simple. Man wants to make everything complex, intricate, and in such detail that the human mind can hardly keep up with it. And so the banking system has become very complex. And one nation is pretty much tied to other nations in its banking or monetary system. …
Now when the financial structure breaks down, all civilization is going to break down.
I just wanted to say that much maybe you can begin to see how serious this thing can become!
So, an economic or banking crisis is what Herbert W. Armstrong concluded would drive Europe to unite.
While not the only factors, items like Brexit, disdain for Donald Trump, and US trade issues may also help push Europe into an economic crisis.
The biblical reality is that Europe will NOT stay as it is.
Whether or not it is even called the European Union in the future is not specified in scripture.
But, what is, is that Europe will reorganize and power will be handed over to a totalitarian leader the Bible calls the Beast.
Notice the following biblical prophecy from the New Jerusalem Bible, a Roman Catholic translation:
1 Then I saw a beast emerge from the sea: it had seven heads and ten horns, with a coronet on each of its ten horns, and its heads were marked with blasphemous titles.
2 I saw that the beast was like a leopard, with paws like a bear and a mouth like a lion; the dragon had handed over to it his own power and his throne and his immense authority.
3 I saw that one of its heads seemed to have had a fatal wound but that this deadly injury had healed and the whole world had marvelled and followed the beast. (Revelation 13:1-3)
The “sea” is the Mediterranean Sea (Numbers 34:6-7; Joshua 1:4; 9:1; 23:4; Ezekiel 47:13-16; Daniel 7:2-8)–hence this is a European leader.
Consider that the world has long felt that Europe has been fatally wounded–and the fallout from COVID-19 is seemingly considered to be a deadly wound–yet the Bible says it will rise up, the world will marvel, and follow the totalitarian European Beast!
Yes, Europe will reorganize.
What it ends up with will be disastrous from many nations (Daniel 11:39-43) as well as itself (Daniel 2:44, 11:44-45).
