Could government actions related to COVID-19 be showing the end of American exceptionalism?
The USA used to at least give lip service to its Constitution. But now, not so much.
Here are the first, fourth, and fourteenth amendments to the US Constitution from its Bill of Rights:
1. Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
4. The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated …
14. All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction there of, are citizens of the United States and of the State where in they reside. Fox commentator Tucker Carlson is telling those who will listen that the USA does not abide by its Constitution anymore and those rights are no longer respected. Here is something he said yesterday:

For 250 years, Americans have enjoyed the unfettered right to practice their faith as they choose. Now they don’t. It happened overnight.
Last month, Christians across the country were legally prohibited from celebrating Easter in their own churches. The national media barely noted it.
How exactly is this happening? It turns out, that’s not clear. Strangely, not very many people have asked.
Politicians have no right to do any of this. They can’t make it illegal for people to go to religious services. The Constitution of the United States expressly prohibits that. The words couldn’t be clearer.
The First Amendment explicitly prevents government from making any law that inhibits the exercise of religious faith. It’s a cornerstone of our history and our law.
Millions of people have fled to America from around the world precisely because our Bill of Rights gives them this guarantee. It’s why this country was founded. Now it’s gone.
Where did politicians get the authority to do all this? Because some elderly, power-drunk doctor told them to? That’s not how our system works – or can work.

We’ve slid to the bottom of that slope. Our rights are gone. No one has explained how politicians are allowed to do this, to override the Constitution. No one seems to care. They’re too afraid.
But if we think this is moment scary, consider what might come next. Now that we’ve ceded all authority in the country to our political leaders, what can’t they do? What are the limits to their power?
That’s not a theoretical question. It’s not an argument over philosophy or political theory. It’s the most practical possible question. The answer will define where this country goes next. For a very long time, the USA has considered itself an example to the rest of the world.
Notice something that Jesus said:
14 You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. (Matthew 5:14)

As far as exceptionalism goes and being a model, the World Health Organization is not pointing to the USA, but to Sweden:
The World Health Organization lauded Sweden as a “model” for battling the coronavirus as countries lift lockdowns — after the nation controversially refused restrictions.
Dr. Mike Ryan, the WHO’s top emergencies expert, said Wednesday there are “lessons to be learned” from the Scandinavian nation, which has largely relied on citizens to self-regulate. …
Ryan noted that instead of lockdowns, the country has “put in place a very strong public policy around social distancing, around caring and protecting people in long-term care facilities.”

So, Sweden decided that its citizens had rights and would take steps to protect themselves. That sounds like something the world would have thought that the USA would have done.
As far as the ‘City upon a hill’ and the USA goes, the old Worldwide Church of God published the following:
IN 1630 the little 350-ton “Arbella” was plowing westward through the rough Atlantic to the Massachusetts coast. From its deck John Winthrop preached a striking sermon that accurately predicted America’s future.
“Wee shall be,” prophesied Winthrop, “as a Citty upon a Hill, the Eies of all people are uppon us; soe that if wee shall deale falsely with our god in this worke we have undertaken and soe cause him to withdraw his present help from us, wee shall be made a story and a by-word through the world.”
Those are remarkable words! They indicate that at least some of the early colonists sensed that their endeavors were being favored by the hand of God.
These early settlers seemed to grasp that they were being given very special opportunities, special blessings — and special responsibilities. For all this, the indications are, some were grateful, at first. …
As America grew, there was ever more to be thankful for. In the years that had passed since John Winthrop’s prophetic sermon, America had truly become the “Citty upon a Hill.” As the Civil War ended, the downtrodden masses of the world looked expectantly to America as the new land of hope and opportunity. But much of that American dream is gone. American exceptionalism is gone.
Although many American politicians take an oath to defend the US Constitution, they apparently believe they have the right to dismiss parts and infringe upon rights it grants. COVID-19 is demonstrating that we are seeing the end of the world as we know it (watch also COVID 19 is NOT the End, but could it be TEOTWAWKI?).
The proverbial ‘City upon a hill” is telling the world that government trumps religion and does not need to abide by its own rules.
Sadly, many Americans have applauded orders from state officials to restrict or stop religious services. They say this is good and that the government should be above religion.
The Bible warns:
20 Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil;
Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness;
Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter. (Isaiah 5:20)
Jesus warned:
34 The lamp of the body is the eye. Therefore, when your eye is good, your whole body also is full of light. But when your eye is bad, your body also is full of darkness. 35 Therefore take heed that the light which is in you is not darkness. (Luke 11:34-35)
Many of the so-called ‘woke,’ who tend to consider themselves the ‘enlightened’, are full of darkness.
Europe and the rest of the world, have been watching the USA ignore the rights enshrined in its Constitution.
Instead of the USA setting the standard for respect of religious practice, it is, in essence, telling the rest of the world that governments are above religion.
The Bible teaches that the coming European Beast will be like that:
3 Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, 4 who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God. (2 Thessalonians 2:3-4)
Notice that he will be worshiped:
1 Then I stood on the sand of the sea. And I saw a beast rising up out of the sea …3 … And I saw one of his heads as if it had been mortally wounded, and his deadly wound was healed. And all the world marveled and followed the beast. 4 So they worshiped the dragon who gave authority to the beast; and they worshiped the beast, saying, “Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with him?”… 8 All who dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world … 11 Then I saw another beast coming up out of the earth, and he … 12 … causes the earth and those who dwell in it to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed. Yes, a government leader will go beyond what the USA and other governments have done in pushing aside religion.
Yes, this is the slope that government officials in the USA and elsewhere have put us on.

What the USA and others nations have been doing is setting the stage for the coming Beast (watch also Fourth Horseman, COVID, and the Rise of the Beast of Revelation).
This will not end well for the USA (Daniel 11:39), much of the Arab world (Daniel 11:40-43), or Europe itself (cf. Daniel 11:44-45; Revelation 17:14).
