Whether or not Vladimir Putin moves his troops into Ukraine, he has once again confronted Europe with a most painful reality: while being too weak to defend itself, it can no longer rely on the United States to come to its rescue. …
Sure, any Russian invasion of Ukraine would cost Russia a fortune and likely degrade into a grinding war of attrition. Invasion is unlikely to be president Putin’s preferred option. Yet, this game of brinkmanship has another part of the equation. If Russia invades Ukraine, the costs for Europe will be equally devastating.
It will force gas-addicted European countries to find expensive alternatives and to severe billions in infrastructure, from pipelines, over pumping stations, to dedicated storages.
Russia also remains a key export destination and a supplier of other resources than oil and gas. Think of titanium. While the Kremlin has long prepared a gradual decoupling from Europe, the opposite remains unthinkable for most Europeans.
While a sizeable part of the Russian population would support an intervention in the eastern part of Ukraine, citizens in many European countries will find it hard to accept soldiers to die for what they consider a strange, peripheral country: Ukraine.
Countless times, I have heard very senior European business leaders sympathise with the leadership of Putin, to the point that one got the impression that they were more attracted to Russian strong leadership than Western liberalism.
Cannon fodder
Let’s also be fair. If, at this stage, European countries would have to stand up to a large Russian land invasion, many soldiers would end up as cannon fodder. …
We can endlessly reflect on what drives Russia in amassing its vast military presence on Ukraine’s border, on how we came to this point, the misgivings and frustrations on both sides.

Europe realizes it has an issue. Europe also is considering various actions to take.
As the Tweet at the beginning of this post shows, Europeans are concerned that the USA may or may not do what it wants.
Europeans are more and more thinking that they need a strong military, apart from the USA.
Several things this year, including the USA withdraw from Afghanistan (watch Afghanistan Loss: Pushing EU Army?), the USA’s AUKUS deal (watch AUKUS sparking European military), and Russian troop movements, are serving as a wakeup call to many in Europe to strengthen its military apart from the USA.
Furthermore, notice that EU News reported the following:

French President Emmanuel Macron says EU countries need to build a new “security and stability framework” that would require “strategic rearmament,” as well as “frank and demanding” talks with Russia.
“We need to build it between us Europeans, share it with our allies in NATO, and propose it for negotiations with Russia,” Macron told the European Parliament in Strasbourg as France starts its presidency of the EU amid growing fears of a new Russian invasion of Ukraine.
An estimated 100,000 Russian troops have been deployed near Ukraine’s borders, and U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, visiting Kyiv, said Moscow had plans to beef them up “on very short notice.” https://www.rferl.org/a/france-eu-security-russia/31661610.html
Ukraine is NOT part of NATO and Russia does not want it to be.
Russia tends to believe that Ukraine is part of it, while those in eastern Ukraine tend to accept that, most in western Ukraine seem more interested in being part of Europe.
Changes are going to occur in the relationship between Ukraine and Russia (see also Russia and Ukraine: Their Origins and Prophesied Future).
So, what will happen between Europe and Russia?
While the EU and Russia will continue to have issues, the Bible shows that Europe will develop a “great army” (Daniel 11:25). be a successful military power (cf. Revelation 13:1-4), and one day will have “many ships” (Daniel 11:40).
Not only will Europe not rely on the USA for defense, it will one day conquer the USA per Daniel 11:39 (see also USA in Prophecy: The Strongest Fortresses).
As far as Russia and Europe go, back in 1962, the old Radio Church of God published a couple of articles that contained the following:
Modern Europe is counseling and making treaties and alliances and agreements to conquer this earth! … Germany, those living in Germany, even the German government, may not yet know that they are going to join in a treaty with the Russians to destroy the United States and bring it to its knees-it is not in his “heart” to think so, but on the other hand it IS in his “heart” to destroy-the very characteristic of the Assyrian, the modern German, is a harsh, cruel, iron, dedication to militarism and destruction! … MAN’S ONLY HOPE LIES IN TURNING TO HIS CREATOR GOD! “At what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom. to pluck up, and to pull down, and to destroy it; If that nation, against whom I have pronounced, TURN FROM THEIR EVIL, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do unto them… Behold, I frame evil against YOU, and devise a device against YOU: return ye now EVERY ONE from his evil way and make your ways and your doings good!” (Jer. 18:7, 8, 11). The German people are now asking themselves: “Can we rely on the Americans and British?” … These questions lead to the logical conclusion that maybe the only people the Germans can rely on themselves. They are now thinking: “Perhaps we can strike a better bargain with the Russians ourselves.” …
Once a German-dominated Europe is fully established, Germany will be ready to negotiate and bargain with Russia– and behind the backs of the Western Allies if necessary. …
When will a Russo-German deal be made? Here is a quotation from a circular letter issued in September, 1950 by the Nazi Geo-political Center in Madrid: “However long we may continue to milk the Americans of millions of dollars, there must come the inevitable moment when we shall have to make it crystal clear to them that we are not willing to join the fight against Russia for American interests … (Germany Plots with the Kremlin by T H. Yes, I, too, expect that Russia will make a deal with the Europeans.
I also expect Russia to end up with at least some additional territory that is part of Ukraine.
Many events have pushed the Europeans to want to increase their military abilities.
This is a region of the world to “watch” (Mark 13:37).
