The situation in Sri Lanka is getting worse. Much of the economy has collapsed, fuel is unavailable for most, and food is getting scarce. People are protesting.
In order to attempt to assist, the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka has turned to Russia:

Sri Lanka’s president says he has asked Russia’s Vladimir Putin to help his cash-strapped nation import fuel, as it faces its worst economic crisis since independence from Britain in 1948.
Gotabaya Rajapaksa said he “had a very productive” discussion with Mr Putin.
It comes after Sri Lanka’s energy minister warned at the weekend that the country may soon run out of petrol.
On Wednesday, hundreds of people took to the streets of the capital Colombo to protest against the government. …
Attempts by Mr Rajapaksa to resolve Sri Lanka’s worst economic crisis in more than 70 years, including securing financial support from India and China, have so far failed to end weeks of shortages of fuel, power, food and other essential items.

Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa said Wednesday he had spoken with Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to seek credit help in order to import fuel. The island nation is in the midst of its worst economic crisis in seven decades, with the situation triggering anti-government protests.
“Had a very productive telecon with the #Russia President, Vladimir Putin,” Rajapaksa said in a tweet. Rajapaksa also thanked Putin for the support the Russian government has extended in the past.
Sri Lanka has struggled to import essentials, leading to shortages of medicine, food and fuel caused in large part by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Reuters news agency cites doctors as saying the entire health system could now collapse.
Many Western Nations have cut off energy imports with Russia in response to its invasion of Ukraine. Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said earlier that his country would follow suit and look for other sources first, but it had not been successful. Russia has indicated it will provide some assistance. India has also provided some assistance.
There are concerns that the lack of fuel will worsen food availability as well as food production in Sri Lanka.

“We’re witnessing a tragic series of events that are unfolding in Sri Lanka right now that should be a warning to anyone who thinks that, you know, it is up to countries themselves to figure out how to deal with this crisis,” said Achim Steiner, Administrator of the UN Development Programme (UNDP), in reference to the South Asian nation’s debt default last month – the first in its history.
“That default essentially means the country is no longer able to pay – or not only service – its debt, but actually to import fundamental parts of what keeps an economy alive, whether it is petrol or it is diesel, whether it is fuel, whether it is medicines,” Mr. Steiner added.
The warning came as new data from the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) indicated that the number of people affected by hunger globally rose to 828 million in 2021, an increase of about 46 million since 2020, and 150 million since the outbreak of coronavirus. …

We are seeing more reports of food shortages as well as food price inflation.
These seem to be signs consistent with the ride of the third horseman of the Apocalypse.
Those in Sri Lanka, and in many parts of the world, need our prayers and support.
As far as Sir Lanka itself goes, it is an island nation just off the southern tip of India.
My wife and I went there for the Feast of Tabernacles in 1984. About 100 or so attended. Sri Lanka was so different from the USA that we thought that perhaps we should write a list of what was the same as in the USA as that would have been a fairly short list. Anyway, do not think that Sri Lanka is just a distant land and nothing like what is happening there can occur in the West.
Government policies around the world, including ones related to governmental handling of COVID, have set many parts of the world up for inflation and other troubles, as has the Russian-Ukrainian situation.
