Finnish President Sauli Niinistö … specifically addressed Europe, stating that the entire continent must “wake up.” He expressed concern over the ongoing support for Ukraine, where NATO has repeatedly raised alarms about slow weapon production among its members. …
“Europe must wake up. Investing in weapon production is not only necessary to provide the needed help. It’s required to ensure that Europe is strong, not for war, but for peace.” …
Warns of a Trump Scenario

Yes, the situation involving Ukraine has pushed Europe to become more militaristic. Prior to Russia’s ‘Special Military Operation’ into Ukraine, Finland was not even a member of NATO, but now is. Because of Russia and Ukraine, Europeans have increased military spending.

Beyond Russia’s snarling, there is a simple explanation: Donald Trump.
As the New York Times reported, Trump repeatedly told White House aides in 2018 that he wanted to pull the United States out of NATO, a move that would leave the bloc leaderless and neutered.
“It would be extremely stressful if America pivoted away from Europe, and that’s the worry with Trump,” a top European diplomat told me. “Every foreign ministry is thinking about this.” …
Warsaw’s buildup is also a hedge against Trump’s return to the White House and the chance that he will set NATO adrift.
That prospect has set alarm bells ringing across Europe.

Yes, Europe is trying to rearm and part of the reason has to do with the prospect of another Donald Trump presidency.
This should not be a surprise to long-term readers of this COGwriter Church of God News page.
Notice something that was posted one day BEFORE the US election in 2016:
If Donald Trump is elected, the Germans will see this as proof that they cannot rely on the USA for their defense, etc. Germany will push for a European army. Some in Europe actually want Donald Trump to win for this basic reason (see ‘Why Europe Secretly Roots For Donald Trump’?). (Thiel B. I made a number of warnings about Donald Trump years ago, which he has at least partially fulfilled.
Let’s consider just three here.
WARNING ONE: Donald Trump will offend the Europeans.
The Bible shows that the USA will be betrayed by friends (cf. Lamentations 1:1-2) and the USA will one day be taken over by a European led power (Daniel 11:39; see also USA in Prophecy: The Strongest Fortresses).
Here are some warnings I made that Donald Trump would offend the Europeans:
Should he actually become President of the United States, his flamboyance and brashness are bound to offend the Europeans, and ultimately that will not turn out well for the USA (cf. Daniel 11:39). (Thiel B. Can Donald Trump make America great again? COGwriter, December 20, 2015)
Donald Trump will take steps to upset the Europeans. (Thiel B. Savage claims Obama would trash the economy if Trump wins; German press sees USA becoming more rotten. COGwriter, May 3, 2016)

Certainly. There are many examples, but here are just a few: Shadow president or mere shadow? In Europe, Pence seeks to reassure allies unnerved by Trump and G20 concludes with increased tension with the USA; Pope Francis pushes for federal Europe and Angela Merkel again says EU ‘can’t rely’ on USA, FPIF says ‘Europe should bolt NATO’ and Europe concerned about Donald Trump and ‘Trump Claims Germany Owes $1 Trillion In NATO Obligations’ ‘A European travel ban on Americans could be a sign of disastrous things to come …’.

How did I know Donald Trump could trigger this?
The Bible shows that Europe will rise up again (Revelation 13:1-10), have a great army (Daniel 11:25), and will one day defeat the USA (Daniel 11:39). Because of where we are in God’s 6000/7000 year plan (see Does God Have a 6,000 Year Plan? What Year Does the 6,000 Years End?), the timing of Donald Trump and Europe’s disdain for him fit.

Europe should build its own army and not rely on security guarantees from Washington, the European Commission president said following the election of Donald Trump. At the same time, Jean-Claude Juncker called for the preservation of the transatlantic partnership. …
“We need more security in Europe, and I do not mean just the anti-terror fight,” Juncker said.
“Talking about security we need a different way of organizing a European defense … the French National Assembly in 1954 prevented the European community of defense.”
“We need it now. The idea that the Americans will eternally see to … European security is not true. Independent of the outcome of the US election, the Americans will not see to Europe’s security forever. We have to do it ourselves. And this is why we need a new approach to the European community of defense, including a European army,” Juncker said. …

Furthermore, in December 2017, Europe’s new military cooperation organization, called PESCO (Permanent Structured Cooperation), formed (see PESCO: The making of a European Defence Union) and announced plans related to military cooperation and technology (see PESCO moving forward with technology).
And as shown at the beginning of this article, Finnish President Sauli Niinistö specifically brought up Donald Trump as a reason for Europe to invest more in weapons production.
Anyway, the prospect of another Donald Trump presidency is alarming the Europeans.
But that is not the only thing.

Former Pentagon official Michael Maloof is predicting that Congress and the Pentagon are in for a “tumultuous” start of 2024, as the ongoing standoff over Biden’s billions more in Ukraine defense aid highlights the reality that there’s “no stomach” any longer to fund Ukraine.
The ex-senior security policy analyst in the Office of the Secretary of Defense issued the words in a fresh interview with Russian media, wherein he also emphasized that the only way out for Kiev is through negotiations based on the current dire realities of the battlefield, which has seen setback after setback for Ukraine forces. …
Maloof issued his own even more pessimistic assessment, painting a picture of a domino effect spilling over into the halls of a tense and divided Congress which must belatedly acknowledge “the war is over”.
According to Maloof’s assessment in the interview:
“The United States has their appropriations hung up. The US government could shut down by January 17 if the administration and Congress can’t negotiate and work out an arrangement for funding Ukraine and Israel, but at the same time to enforce the border. I think the Republicans to date have held firm, and we’ll see if they’ll hold on. But there’s no stomach right now any longer to fund the Ukrainians.
Frankly, the people see that the war is over. Basically, the [Ukrainian] counteroffensive failed, and there’s no way that they can pick it back up and turn things around, because they’ve gone into total defensive mode. The so-called counteroffensive just does not exist,” said Maloof.

While the battles between Russia and Ukraine are not over, it is the USA that has been the MAJOR power to support Ukraine financially and militarily. Now with various debates in the Congress of the USA as well as on the American news, the Europeans are wondering how long they can rely on the USA. The Biden Administration pledged to always support Ukraine since Russia’s invasion, but it is clear to the Europeans and others that there looks to be a point where the USA will not provide much support.
Yes, that too is motivating the Europeans and is likely another reason that Finnish President Sauli Niinistö wants Europe to produce more weapons.
Europe is pushing for having a bigger and more extensive military.
Europe is in the process of developing “a great army” (Daniel 11:25), will have “many ships” (Daniel 11:40), and will successfully conquer the power with the “strongest fortresses” (Daniel 11:39).
Since the USA is the power in the 21st century with the “strongest fortresses” this should concern all who place their trust in the military of the USA.
