Star Trek TNG’s Data declared violent Irish unity in 2024; COGwriter: Unity will come, but 2024 is not the year

When sci-fi writer Melinda M Snodgrass sat down to write Star Trek episode The High Ground, she had little idea of the unexpected ripples of controversy it would still be making more than three decades later. …

While the series has legions of followers steeped in its lore, that one particular episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation has lived long and prospered in infamy.

It comes down to a scene in which the android character Data, played by actor Brent Spiner, talks about the “Irish unification of 2024” as an example of violence successfully achieving a political aim.

Originally shown in the US in 1990, there was so much concern over the exchange that the episode was not broadcast on the BBC or Irish public broadcaster RTÉ. …

The decision not to air the episode reflects a time when a bloody conflict continued to rage in Northern Ireland, with the Provisional IRA – a paramilitary group with the stated aim of ending British rule in Northern Ireland – one of its main protagonists.

Now it is 2024 – and Sinn Féin, which emerged as the political wing of the IRA, is the largest party in the devolved Stormont assembly.

The party’s leader in Northern Ireland, Michelle O’Neill, became first minister last month and has predicted a referendum on Irish unity within a decade. …

In the episode, Data’s line does not come out of the blue.

The High Ground is based on the theme of terrorism, after the Starship Enterprise’s chief medical officer Dr Beverly Crusher is abducted by the separatist Ansata group, who use murder and violence to pursue their aim of independence.

“I’ve been reviewing the history of armed rebellion, and it appears that terrorism is an effective way to promote political change,” says Data.

“Yes it can be,” responds Captain Jean-Luc Picard, played by Patrick Stewart, “but I have never subscribed to the theory that political power flows from the barrel of a gun.”

“Yet there are numerous examples of when it was successful,” Data says. “The independence of the Mexican state from Spain, the Irish unification of 2024, and the Kenzie rebellion.” …

The story has parallels with the situation in Northern Ireland at the time – something Ms Snodgrass says was deliberate.

“I was a history major before I went to law school and I wanted to get into that; discuss the fact that one man’s freedom fighter is another man’s terrorist,” she says. https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-68342135

So, the Irish unity part was intentionally put in the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode, which was seemingly pushing violence.

Michelle O’Neill stated that Ireland would be unified within a decade.

She is most likely correct about that. She did not call for violence.

Now, in Star Trek: The Next Generation the unification claim was made for the year 2024 and this was to come from violence.

The year 2024 is too soon for that.

Violence, though, to attain unity is a possibility.

Whether it is by a vote, or whether it is because the UK will be conquered (which will happen), Northern Ireland will not remain part of the United Kingdom.

Ireland will be unified.

When my wife Joyce and I were in Ireland during the Spring of 2022, I noticed that on the radio (we drove a lot) and on the local news in the Republic of Ireland, there was a lot of anti-UK sentiments being broadcst.

The Republic of Ireland expects the entire island to be unified with the British having no more say.

This is something that those that live in the Republic of Ireland hear a lot.

Now, a type of unity has existed in Ireland for a couple of decades after the signing of the ‘Good Friday’ agreement in 1998.

The border between the Republic of Ireland and the UK’s Northern Ireland was totally open for some time, but now there are some issues because of Brexit.

The UK wants to retain control of Northern Ireland. Most in Northern Ireland (which is mainly nominally Protestant) do not want be to under control of the Republic of Ireland to its south (which is mainly nominally Roman Catholic).

The EU and Ireland have their agendas and keep pushing for it.

The EU wants Northern Ireland to act like it is part of the EU, whereas Ireland wants Northern Ireland to decide it should really be part of it and not the UK. This has partially occurred because of Brexit.

Despite British hopes for its future, Northern Ireland will cease to be part of the UK. British loss of territories will one day include Northern Ireland.

Notice a few prophetic warnings that are consistent with that:

24 ‘Do not defile yourselves with any of these things; for by all these the nations are defiled, which I am casting out before you. 25 For the land is defiled; therefore I visit the punishment of its iniquity upon it, and the land vomits out its inhabitants. 26 You shall therefore keep My statutes and My judgments, and shall not commit any of these abominations, either any of your own nation or any stranger who dwells among you 27 (for all these abominations the men of the land have done, who were before you, and thus the land is defiled), 28 lest the land vomit you out also when you defile it, as it vomited out the nations that were before you. (Leviticus 18:24-28)

23 ‘And if by these things you are not reformed by Me, but walk contrary to Me, 24 then I also will walk contrary to you, and I will punish you yet seven times for your sins. 25 And I will bring a sword against you that will execute the vengeance of the covenant; when you are gathered together within your cities I will send pestilence among you; and you shall be delivered into the hand of the enemy. (Leviticus 26:23-25)

58 “If you do not carefully observe all the words of this law that are written in this book, that you may fear this glorious and awesome name, THE LORD YOUR GOD, 59 then the Lord will bring upon you and your descendants extraordinary plagues — great and prolonged plagues — and serious and prolonged sicknesses. 60 Moreover He will bring back on you all the diseases of Egypt, of which you were afraid, and they shall cling to you. 61 Also every sickness and every plague, which is not written in this Book of the Law, will the Lord bring upon you until you are destroyed. 62 You shall be left few in number, whereas you were as the stars of heaven in multitude, because you would not obey the voice of the Lord your God. 63 And it shall be, that just as the Lord rejoiced over you to do you good and multiply you, so the Lord will rejoice over you to destroy you and bring you to nothing; and you shall be plucked from off the land which you go to possess. (Deuteronomy 28:58-63)

These territorial losses will include Northern Ireland and Gibraltar, as well as England, Wales, and Scotland (and also its naval presence in Cyprus and other places). Yes, one day, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland will be no more.

Back in 2022, I wrote:

I expect that the Republic of Ireland (or at least an Irish leader) will have control over Northern Ireland and probably other lands as well with the next decade or so. (Thiel B. And there is a leader in Northern Ireland calling for that.

And the Republic of Ireland?

Notice what Article 3 the Constitution of the Republic of Ireland states:

It is the firm will of the Irish Nation, in harmony and friendship, to unite all the people who share the territory of the island of Ireland, in all the diversity of their identities and traditions, recognising that a united Ireland shall be brought about only by peaceful means with the consent of a majority of the people, democratically expressed, in both jurisdictions in the island. Until then, the laws enacted by the Parliament established by this Constitution shall have the like area and extent of application as the laws enacted by the Parliament that existed immediately before the coming into operation of this Constitution.

While the democratic way is one way, if that does not work, military pressure will accomplish this (cf. Daniel 8:24-25, 11:39)–though later than Commander Data of Star Trek: The Next Generation declared.

Northern Ireland will be united with the rest of the island and become dominated by Europe.
