US claims it is ‘preparing for every possibility’ on potential Iran retaliation, but does that include ‘great damage’ hitting Jerusalem?

After a top Hamas political leader was assassinated in Tehran last week, White House Deputy National Security Adviser Jon Finer said the United States is “preparing for every possibility” regarding potential retaliation from Iran.
“I won’t lay out what I expect Iran to do, because I don’t think we want to show our hand in that way,” Finer told ABC News “This Week” anchor George Stephanopoulos on Sunday. “But I will tell you, we’re preparing for every possibility just as we did in advance of April 13 when Iran attacked Israel, and the United States and a coalition of our partners and allies worked with Israel to defeat that attack.” https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/finer-us-preparing-possibility-potential-iran-retaliation/story?id=112545810
Is Iran preparing for likely destruction to parts of Israel? What about great damage coming to Jerusalem which is prophesied?
The Bible shows that God will allow what looks to be a Iranian-Syrian-Lebanese confederation to strike the nation of Israel:
1 The burden against the Valley of Vision.
What ails you now, that you have all gone up to the housetops, 2 You who are full of noise, A tumultuous city, a joyous city? Your slain men are not slain with the sword, Nor dead in battle. 3 All your rulers have fled together; They are captured by the archers. All who are found in you are bound together; They have fled from afar. 4 Therefore I said, “Look away from me, I will weep bitterly; Do not labor to comfort me Because of the plundering of the daughter of my people.”
5 For it is a day of trouble and treading down and perplexity By the Lord God of hosts In the Valley of Vision — Breaking down the walls And of crying to the mountain. 6 Elam bore the quiver With chariots of men and horsemen, And Kir uncovered the shield. 7 It shall come to pass that your choicest valleys Shall be full of chariots, And the horsemen shall set themselves in array at the gate.
8 He removed the protection of Judah. You looked in that day to the armor of the House of the Forest; 9 You also saw the damage to the city of David, That it was great; And you gathered together the waters of the lower pool. 10 You numbered the houses of Jerusalem, And the houses you broke down To fortify the wall. 11 You also made a reservoir between the two walls For the water of the old pool. But you did not look to its Maker, Nor did you have respect for Him who fashioned it long ago.
12 And in that day the Lord God of hosts Called for weeping and for mourning, For baldness and for girding with sackcloth. 13 But instead, joy and gladness, Slaying oxen and killing sheep, Eating meat and drinking wine: “Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die!”
14 Then it was revealed in my hearing by the Lord of hosts,”Surely for this iniquity there will be no atonement for you, Even to your death,” says the Lord God of hosts. (Isaiah 22:1-14 NKJV)
Elam is a reference to at least some in Iran. Kir is of interest as it it looks to include Syrians and others in the region. The “House of the Forest” was anciently located in Lebanon (e.g. 1 Kings 7:2, 10:17,21; 2 Chronicles 9:16,20).
In Isaiah 22: 8, “Judah” is a reference to those in the land commonly called Israel–God will allow Israel to be attacked! In Isaiah 22:9, consider that “the damage to the city of David” is a reference to at least part of Jerusalem–and notice that the damage will be great.

Iran said it successfully used two that hit military targets in Israel during its attack last April (see https://www.armyrecognition.com/news/army-news/2024/iran-launched-non-interceptable-hypersonic-missile-fattah-2-during-airstrike-against-israel).
Iran has had some time to analyze and prepare for a future attack.
Because the USA and others assisted Israel last time, I suspect that it has a multi-part plan for a much more devastating attack.

U.S. officials believe Iran’s anticipated assault on Israel could be “larger and more complicated” than Tehran’s April attack and could involve a coordinated effort by its proxies in the region, CNN reported on Friday. …
Iran’s attack could be launched in the “coming days,” the officials said.
The Lebanese Al-Akhbar daily, which is close to Iran’s Hezbollah terrorist proxy, reported on Friday that the assault will involve Tehran’s entire “Axis of Resistance,” which includes Hezbollah, Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, Yemen’s Houthis and other regional terrorist groups. …
Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei ordered another direct attack on the Jewish state following the alleged Israeli bombing, The New York Times reported on Wednesday, citing Iranian officials.
In addition, Israel has been awaiting Hezbollah’s response since Tuesday after it killed Fuad Shukr in Beirut, a terrorist responsible for the rocket attack that killed 12 children in the Golan Heights, as well as a 1983 bombing that killed more than 300 U.S. and French troops in Beirut.
Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah told attendees at Shukr’s funeral via video on Thursday that “the enemy and those who stand behind him must await our coming retaliation, which will be certain.” https://israel365news.com/394031/us-iranian-attack-on-israel-could-be-worse-than-april-assault/
While the above report left out Syria, it and likely others look to be involved in removing “the protection of Judah.”

Calls for foreigners to leave Lebanon as war fears grow

Several countries have urged their nationals to leave Lebanon, as fears grow of a wider conflict in the Middle East.
Iran has vowed “severe” retaliation against Israel, which it blames for the death of Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran on Wednesday. Israel has not commented.
His assassination came hours after Israel killed Hezbollah senior commander Fuad Shukr in Beirut.
Western officials fear that Hezbollah, an Iran-backed militia and political movement based in Lebanon, could play a key role in any such retaliation, which in turn could spark a serious Israeli response. …
The US, the UK, Australia, Sweden, France, Italy, Canada, South Korea, Saudi Arabia and Jordan are among the countries to have urged their citizens to leave Lebanon as soon as possible.
Fears of an escalation of hostilities that could engulf Lebanon are at their highest since Hezbollah started its attacks on Israel, a day after the deadly Hamas attacks on southern Israel on 7 October, in support for Palestinians in Gaza. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c80xxeqel5po
So, there are rumors of war (cf. Matthew 24:4-8).
From a military perspective, Iran is likely thinking the following:
- This is the time for it to show the Islamic world that Iran wishes to lead the effort to eliminate Israel.
- Attempt to overwhelm Israeli and USA defenses by encouraging Hezbollah to launch many times the number of rockets/missiles than it did in April.
- Have the Houthis send out missiles, drones, etc.
- Send out its own drones and missiles.
- Include sending hypersonic missiles that it believes will not often be stopped.
It will be a “much more extensive” military attack by Iran and its allies that will fulfill Isaiah 22:6-9 than what happened last April. That could happen between now and the end of summer. Watch (cf. Mark 13:37).
