‘Apocalyptic’: Israel destroys mosque, bombs market in southern Lebanon

A series of Israeli air raids have destroyed a mosque and levelled a marketplace in southern Lebanon, in what has been described as “apocalyptic” scenes as Israel intensifies and widens its bombardment campaign across the country.

In the latest Israeli raid early on Sunday, an old mosque in the village of Kfar Tibnit in southern Lebanon was “completely destroyed”, the National News Agency reported. There were no immediate reports on deaths.

Al Jazeera’s Laura Khan, reporting from capital Beirut, said the Lebanese Red Cross is still trying to see “if there were any survivors and trying to pull out those injured”.

“Many people have taken to social media. They have been sending videos of what almost seems like apocalyptic scenes – entire streets destroyed.

It should be remembered that the current war began with the Palestinian Hamas invasion of southern Israel, which they named ‘Al Aqsa Flood.” Many IDF soldiers reported seeing images of the Dome of the Rock prominently displayed in many homes in Gaza.

While Al Aqsa is the focus of Islamist violence against Israel, they universally misidentify it as the golden dome, which is referred to in  Arabic as Qubbat aṣ-Ṣaḵra. Israel has been bombing parts of Lebanon and Syria, while considering an attack against Iran. In Lebanon, Israel destroyed a replica of the Dome of the Rock which is associated with the “Iranian Gardens” in Lebanon. Why might this further infuriate the Muslims? Has Hamas claimed that one of the reason it launched its October 7, 2023 attack against Israel was because it was concerned that after the arrival of five red heifers, that the Jews hoped to clear the Temple Mount of the Dome of the Rock? Does the Jewish Temple Institute really want to clear the Temple Mount region of all mosques and the Dome of the Rock in order to build a third temple in Jerusalem? The Bible tells of destruction coming to Damascus:

1 The burden against Damascus.

“Behold, Damascus will cease from being a city,
And it will be a ruinous heap.
(Isaiah 17:1)

The above destruction has not happened yet.

It may come from the nation calling itself Israel or possibly from the King of the North (cf. Daniel 11:40-43).

That said, the Bible does not show Israel settling in Damascus.

But, the Bible does warn that the descendants of Judah will lose protection and great damage will hit Jerusalem, by a confederation of peoples from Iran, Syria, and Lebanon (cf. Isaiah 22:6-9).

Israeli military actions are fanning the fire for that to happen.
