Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg

Karl zu Guttenberg has made the news often for being famous, and sometimes for being infamous.

I personally have been following and reporting on Baron Karl zu Guttenberg since late 2009 (see America to be Replaced By China or Europe?) as one who may play an important role in the future of Europe and the entire world.  Back in 2009, a Canadian reporter had speculated that Europe may need a leader like the Baron.   While I have long been wondering who may become the final King of the North, the release of my book 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect in September 2009, provided even further motivation to look for such a leader.  Also, in January 2010, a member of the Council of Elders in the Living Church of God asked me about Karl zu Guttenberg’s possible end time King of the North role.  He also asked me to research the Baron, and I did.

On February 13, 2010, I published an article about him, and listed 20 reasons why he seemed to be one to watch as the potential prince, then king, of the north of biblical prophecy (see Statfor’s Caesar; Karl-Theodor von und zu Guttenberg a Prince of the North?).  Additionally, that article stated:

If Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg establishes some type of new religious “Catholic” order–watch out for that–then it could very well be that he could be the final King of the North.

Based upon the prophecies in Daniel 11:36-38, it appears that the King of the North will establish a type of religious order, and while Herr Guttenberg has not yet done that, to me, that could be a key factor in determining if he will be the final King of the North (or if he will at least assist him in some significant way).

On February 20, 2010, after noticing certain comments that then German Defense Minister Guttenberg made about NATO, I posted the following:

A week ago, I posted an article containing some news items (see Statfor’s Caesar; Karl-Theodor von und zu Guttenberg a Prince of the North?) that provided many reasons that German Defence Minister Baron Karl-Theodor von und zu Guttenberg might become the final King of the North.

And while that identity is not yet certain, I noticed that I had written the following in a book that I wrote in 2009:

The King of the North will probably proclaim “peace and safety” while plotting for the sudden destruction of those opposing him (1 Thessalonians 5:2–3). This would be a second false proclamation of peace. The sudden destruction is likely to include a nuclear attack, and could possibly happen in conjunction with a NATO exercise that would catch the U.S.A. and its Anglo-allies off guard (other nations are likely to also be involved). (Thiel B. 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect. Nazarene Books, 2009, pp. 302-303).

The Bible foretells the time of a military leader rising up (Revelation 13:1-4) who will destroy the “strongest fortresses”  (Daniel 11:39)–apparently a reference to the USA and its Anglo-allies…German Defence Minister, Karl-Theodor Guttenberg, wants NATO to be changed, and fairly quickly. Yet he still wants NATO.  And he wants it to be able to make decisions without all the nations in it agreeing–he considers that having to get all agree is “absurd” .  And that indicates that Baron Guttenberg seems to have dictatorial tendencies.  That may not bode well for the one nation known as the USA.

On May 12, 2010, I began to report about him at my Los Angeles Church History and End Time Prophecy Examiner column (Guttenberg holds military meeting in Berlin. Might he become the King of the North?) and stated:

If Baron Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg is involved with a future Middle East peace deal and he establishes some type of new religious “Catholic” order, then it could very well be that he could be the final King of the North.

On June 3, 2010, also at my Los Angeles Church History and End Time Prophecy Examiner column, I posted an article titled Baron Karl Guttenberg and defense cuts. Might he be the Catholic Great Monarch? which explained why various Catholic prophecies about the “Great Monarch,” including one about being exiled, might point to Herr Guttenberg.  The same article also stated:

If Karl Guttenberg is part of a major Middle East peace deal, if he later establishes armies (or a great army), and if he establishes something like a new religious order within his version of the “Catholic” faith, he hopefully will get more people’s attention.  And if Karl Guttenberg ultimately does gain the top job in a restructured Europe (especially if there are various signs and wonders at and after that time, cf. 2 Thessalonians 2:9-12 ), all would be wise to realize that he pretty much is the one who will be the final King of the North (despite the type of denials that would be expected).

Related to the above, on December 12, 2010, at the Los Angeles Church History and End Time Prophecy Examiner column, I posted an article titled Guttenberg to fulfill warning from Los Angeles End Time Prophecy Examiner? that included the following:

Well, late Thursday Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg announced that he {is} taking steps that seemed to fulfill one of those warnings:

So, he took at least an initial step in trying to come up with a multi-national great European army (which would also be multi-lingual).

On June 14, 2010, when he caught some flack about some of his statements related to Afghanistan, I posted (see Guttenberg Hints of Resigning):

If he does resign, this would not be a surprise.  For various reasons, he may be out of the limelight for a while, if he does, in fact, become the final King of the North.

And of course, while the Baron did not resign in 2010, he did end up 2011 resigning for other reasons.  The fact that he indicated he might resign in 2010 was another factor that got me to consider that he might be the final King of the North.

Also, in June 2010, in my article Might German Baron Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg become the King of the North?, I posted the following:

As far as being exiled goes, the Baron is not always popular, and he may become unpopular for a time.

And not only did the plagiarism charge reduce his popularity, shortly thereafter he did go into a self-imposed exile.  Even the German press has referred to his later move to the USA as “Exil” (TV-Kolumne: „Maybrit Illner“: Das Guttenberg-Rätsel – weiter lesen auf FOCUS Online: http://www.focus.de/kultur/kino_tv/focus-fernsehclub/tv-kolumne-maybrit-illner-das-guttenberg-raetsel_aid_687881.html) which is “Exile” in English.

On August 6, 2010, at my Los Angeles Church History and End Time Prophecy Examiner column, I posted (Karl Guttenberg most popular German politician. Might he rise further?):

Even if he temporarily loses popularity again, ultimately he may rise much further.

And the plagiarism scandal has, temporarily in a sense in my view, caused him to lose popularity.

On October 21, 2010, at my Los Angeles Church History and End Time Prophecy Examiner column, I posted (Guttenbergs rising: Might Europe turn to Karl Guttenberg?):

Despite the Guttenbergs rising popularity, Karl Guttenberg is virtually unknown to those I have spoken to about him in Southern California (the American media tends to spend less time on foreign affairs than they do to American celebrities).

I have been one of relatively few to regularly post prophetic articles about him, and seem to be the first newswriter to specify that Karl zu  Guttenberg may become the final King of the North of Bible prophecy and Great Monarch of Catholic and Byzantine (Eastern/Greek Orthodox) prophecy.

On February 25, 2011, I posted (Guttenberg Down, But Not Out):

And it is possible that he could end up out of the limelight, or even out of a political office, for a while.

And although Angela Merkel had wanted him to remain as Defense Minister at that time, he resigned from political office shortly after (March 1, 2011, see Guttenberg Resigns!) a few days after I posted that he might.

On March 4, 2011, I posted the following written by the Living Church of God in a post titled LCG on Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg:

Mr. zu Guttenberg may reemerge in politics in the future (and this bears watching)…

In that same March 4, 2011 post, I wrote (bolding added):

And the Baron is certainly one to watch…I have had my eye on Karl Guttenberg since late 2009 when I initially reported about him. And he may be one to watch to rise up as the final “King of the North”…If Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg eventually establishes a new religious order within Catholicism (cf. Daniel 11:38), promotes European unity, promotes ecumenism, promotes peace in the Middle East, and/or otherwise rises up in European politics, he could be very interesting to watch. He now may have the time to do some of these things…As I reported before, certain Roman and Orthodox Catholic prophecies seem to suggest that a certain leader will arise in Europe after being exiled for something…

The fact that he is now “otherwise” trying to rise “up in European politics” is consistent with that speculation on my part, and makes him one to watch.  Also in March 2011, in my article Might German Baron Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg become the King of the North?, I posted:

If he becomes more involved in issues with the Vatican, a religious order, and/or the EU, watch out!

And this last item has began to happen as Karl zu Guttenberg on 12/12/11 was appointed to a position in the EU (Guttenberg Criticized, But…), though this is not the final role I suspect that he may have.

On May 10, 2011, I posted the following in an article titled Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg Out But…:

Here are Catholic and Eastern Orthodox prophecies that could apply to the Baron:

Josefa von Bourg (d. 1807): God will choose a descendant of Constantine, Pepin, and St. Louis, who has been tried by a long period of exile to rule over Europe. He will have the sign of the cross on his breast…Under him the Catholic religion will spread as never before (Culleton, The Prophets and Our Times, pp. 181-182; Connor, p.37).

Anonymou Paraphrasis (10th century): The one true King, who is inhabiting a humid place to avoid the heat; whom men have expulsed from his own dwelling and gave a place to live in the islands; who is engaged in navigation and fishing every week; (this King): will be revealed when the time of the power of the Ishmaelites comes to an end. (Tzima Otto, p. 30)

For those who are unaware, Karl zu Guttenberg descends from the Habsburg line and all the Habsburg line seems to have descended from Charlemagne (King Pepin was the father of Charlemagne).  So the idea of one who is to become a ruler who has Baron Guttenberg’s ancestry is supposed to be exiled.

So, before he announced his exile, I suspected that he may fulfill exile prophecies.

A month later, on June 10, 2011, it was reported that the Baron would perhaps leave Germany for a couple of years (Karl Guttenberg Plans Two-Year Sabbatical Abroad).  On July 28, 2011, it was reported that he was moving to Connecticut (Baron Karl zu Guttenberg Moving to USA).

Why was that location of importance?

Well, on August 25, 2011, in the post Baron Guttenberg’s House May Fulfill a Prophecy (and is in a Celebrity Neighborhood) I re-posted one of the old Eastern Orthodox prophecies about the Great Monarch (who seems to be the same person as the final King of the North in Bible prophecy) and then commented about how his new location may fit the prophecy:

Anonymou Paraphrasis (10th century): The one true King, who is inhabiting a humid place to avoid the heat; whom men have expulsed from his own dwelling and gave a place to live in the islands; who is engaged in navigation and fishing every week; (this King): will be revealed when the time of the power of the Ishmaelites comes to an end. (Tzima Otto, p. 30)

The coastal portion of Connecticut, where he now owns a house near other celebrities, has been described as a humid subtropical climate.  Whether the Baron goes to islands, navigates, or fishes much, will be seen.

The fact that he moved to a location that somewhat fits that prophecy was of interest to me.

Interestingly, Karl zu Guttenberg’s first major speech after moving to the USA was actually in Canada, and he called for a stronger leadership in Europe.  This is something that I covered at this National Church History and End Time Prophecy column on November 21, 2011 (see Baron Guttenberg back on public stage and is advocating stronger EU leadership for details).  In that article I mentioned “23 items to consider as to why Karl zu Guttenberg could possibly fill the role that he now seems to be advocating,”  thus I felt that part of the purpose of his speech was to tell the world that he might be interested in providing Europe the strong leadership he was advocating.

Somewhat  bizarrely, notice something Karl zu Guttenberg said that I reported on November 30, 2011 in an article titled Guttenberg Refers to Himself as a Type of Political Beast:

A reader sent me the following, which he referred to as “Guttenberg calls himself a BEAST” :

“There’s no doubt whatsoever that I’m a political animal, a ‘zoon politicon’,” he told Die Zeit newspaper in what appeared to be a carefully orchestrated comeback after eight months away from the spotlight.   http://in.reuters.com/article/2011/11/24/idINIndia-60716820111124

“For Aristotle’szoon politikon there are no persons beyond the walls of the city; outside the city there exist only beasts or gods.”

If Karl zu Guttenberg becomes the King of the North (Daniel 11:40), he would also be the final Beast of Revelation.  Of course, his statement does not mean that he wishes people to think that he is the final Beast in Bible prophecy, but his comment is interesting none-the-less.

That was an interesting admission, if he is the one (cf. 2 Thessalonians 2:7).

On December 12, 2011, the Baron Somewhat Officially Reemerged in EU Politics

I, as well as LCG, wrote back in March of this year that Herr Guttenberg should be watched for possible re-emergence in the political arena. And this is one more step by him confirming those speculations.  Notice something that I posted on December 9, 2011 (see Guttenberg Makes Return to EU Politics in Brussels):

If Karl zu Guttenberg is the one to become the final King of the North of Daniel 11, he will further re-emerge as a force in European politics–this is something that I am now, and have been for some time, watching for. And yes, I also suspect that he will have some disappointments on the way, but that does not change what I feel may happen with him.

The final Beast will ultimately become the political leader of Europe. And according to the Bible, he will have military abilities (Revelation 13:1-4) and apparently be popular and charismatic (cf. Daniel 7:20,11:21-24,31; Revelation 13:3-5).

Also notice something that I had posted at the Examiner.com on December 11, 2012 (Guttenberg re-emerging: Reasons he might be the prophesied King of the North):

1. Baron Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg is a leader from middle Europe and has a Franco-German/Assyrian bloodline. (cf. Isaiah 10:5-11; Daniel 7:24)
2. He has a military background.  The Beast of Revelation 13:1-4 is shown to be a military political leader.
3. He is considered to have some economic expertise. (cf. Daniel 8:25; 11:24; Revelation 13:16-17; 18:3)
4. He is an extremely popular politician (he was the most popular in Germany in early and late 2010). (Revelation 13:4,8)

Why would I have concluded items about the Baron BEFORE these events happened that they may happen?

Two reasons.

The first is that I try to follow Jesus’ admonitions throughout the New Testament to watch events that may have prophetic importance (e.g. Mark 13:28-37; Luke 12:37).  Because of where we appear to be in the prophetic timeline, the writing of my 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect book (which says to watch out for the rise of the King of the North/Great Monarch/European Beast), and various characteristics of the Baron that seem to align with biblical prophecy and the record of history, some of these events are consistent with all of that.  Also consider:

10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; A good understanding have all those who do His commandments.  His praise endures forever. (Psalms 111:10, NKJV)

But secondly, because IF the Baron is the “Great Monarch” of Catholic and Byzantine prophecy (who also seems to be the same individual as the final King of the North and Beast of biblical prophecy), he MIGHT try to fulfill some of them intentionally.  Notice what I posted on March 11, 2011 (LCG on Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg):

Roman and Orthodox Catholic prophecies seem to suggest that a certain leader will arise in Europe after being exiled for something (see Guttenberg Resigns!).  The Baron’s semi-self-imposed exile (he could have stayed in his job as Chancellor Merkel still supported him) bears watching as another Catholic prophecy says that the one who will rise up to rule Europe “is cognizant of the things of the future”, Monk Leontios, d. 912 (see Might German Baron Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg become the King of the North? for more details).

When I was working in 2010 on the article Might German Baron Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg become the King of the North?  it occurred to me that if the Baron is the one, that he may try to fulfill some of the Great Monarch prophecies, hence I felt that some were thus likely to be fulfilled.

And several have been.

I, thus, still consider that Karl zu Guttenberg is one to watch.

Karl-Theodor Maria Nikolaus Johann Jacob Philipp Franz Joseph Sylvester Freiherr von und zu Guttenberg Seems to Possibly Fit Scores of Prophecies

As a student of prophecy, I found it interesting that Karl zu Guttenberg has characteristics that seem to line up with Catholic, Byzantine, and biblical prophecies related to an end time European leader.  Catholic and Byzantine prophecies seem to refer to this individual as the “Great Monarch” or “Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire,” while Bible prophecies tend to call him the final King of the North of Daniel 11 and the Beast of the sea in Revelation 13.

Although most of the details of the Catholic and Byzantine prophecies are in my article Might German Baron Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg become the King of the North?, here are summaries of 21 concerning the “Great Monarch” that seem to fit Baron Guttenberg:

1. The Great Monarch will be a descendant of Charlemagne (the Baron’s mother is a Habsburg and the Habsburg line descends from Charlemagne).
2. His name will begin with the letter K (Karl does).
3. His name will be Charles (Charles is the French and English version of the name Karl).
4. One of his names will be Joseph (this is one of his many names).
5. The Great Philip will lead an army of 18 languages (he was once defense minister, one of his names is Philipp, he has advocated for a multi-national/multi-lingual European army, and perhaps he will lead an army again).
6. The Great King’s name will be like the Sabbath (this does not seem to apply to the Baron, however, since Israel is associated with the Sabbath, some may interpret that the name Jakob fulfills this–Israel is the name that God renamed Jacob in Genesis 32:28).
7. His name will be 80 characters in length. If this means exactly 80 characters and includes all his names then he exceeds this (as there are 88 characters as I have seen them). However, if the prophecy means at least 80 character or if his eight-character title (Freiherr, which means Baron in English) is not counted, it may be he could possibly be considered a fulfillment of this prediction.
8. He will be educated since birth (he was).
9. He will speak English to those in his empire (he is fluent in English, but has no empire yet).
10. He will have dark hair (he does).
11. He will be balding in the front (he is).
12. He will have an eagle/aquiline nose (he seems to).
13. He will be handsome (it has been suggested that he is).
14. He will be a knight/duke, for “a valiant duke will arise from the ancient German house” (a German Baron who is a military leader seems to fit this).
15. He will be ecumenically-oriented (the Baron married a Lutheran).
16. He is supposed to rise up when the Catholic Church has been humiliated (he has been rising up and the Catholic Church is still being humiliated by sex scandals).
17. He is supposed to be involved in war before he is 40 (the Baron was Defence Minister and in Afghanistan in military fatigues while in his late 30s).
18. He will be disgraced (he has been by his plagiarism scandal).
19. He will be exiled (he exiled himself in mid-2011).
20. He will be exiled in a humid, but not too hot, climate (his location in Connecticut meets that description).
21. He will rise up after being exiled (he seems to now be starting to do so, though he may slip again).

Now it should be noted that although many Roman and Eastern Orthodox Catholics seem to be looking forward to the “Great Monarch” rising up, some Catholics have expressed concern about this.  Notice:

Catholic writer Paul Thigpen warns, “Looking for the Great Monarch, then, who does not appear in Scripture, might lead to overlooking the Antichrist who does. It might even lead to–a more disturbing thought–to mistaking the Antichrist for the Great Monarch. After all, lesser antichrists of the past such as Hitler and Stalin have seduced followers with visions of grand and glorious earthly kingdoms. Surely Antichrist of the last days will do the same.” (Penn L. False dawn: the United Religions Initiative, globalism, and the quest for a one-world religion. Sophia Perennis, 2005, p. 420).

I agree with Paul Thigpen that the “Great Monarch” concept is biblically-dangerous and some may then overlook the end time European leaders that the Bible warns of: the Beast/King of the North and the Antichrist.  For a a summation of certain private Catholic prophecies and some related scriptural references that show that many private prophecies for the Great Monarch are consistent with the warnings in the Bible against the Beast/King of the North, please see the article Who is the King of the North?

Now, it is true that Karl Guttenberg does not fit all Catholic and Byzantine prophecies that exist concerning the Great Monarch.  Yet, since in my view, some of them are contradictory, no one individual possibly could (nor will all “private prophecies” be fulfilled, especially the way that many seem to understand them). Thus far, Karl Guttenberg seems to fulfill the Catholic and Byzantine prophecies regarding the “Great Monarch” better than anyone I have seen.

But are there biblical reasons to consider Karl Guttenberg?

Here are 23 items to consider:

1. Baron Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg is a leader from middle Europe.  His blood line crosses into various countries in Europe (at least Germany, France, Austria, Liechtenstein, and Croatia). So did the Roman empire. (cf. Daniel 7:24; 9:26-27; Isaiah 10:5-11).
2. He has a military background as he was “Minister of Defence” for Germany..  The Beast of Revelation 13:1-4 is shown to be a military political leader.
3. He is considered to have some economic expertise. (cf. Daniel 8:25; 11:24; Revelation 13:16-17; 18:3)
4. He is an extremely popular politician (he was the most popular in Germany in early and late 2010). (Revelation 13:4,8)
5. He is considered an expert on foreign policy. (cf. Daniel 11:27)
6. He is some type of Catholic. (cf. Revelation 17:7-11)
7. Because he is married to a Lutheran (and she apparently did not convert prior to marriage), he apparently is not super strict about being Catholic (some other news reports I have seen also seem to confirm this in other ways as well). (cf. Revelation 13:4,8; Daniel 11:36-38)
8. His wife also has political connections, and both of them have made various public  “morality statements.”  Hence suggesting that the Guttenbergs represent the moral high ground in Germany. (cf. Revelation 13:4,8)
9. He seems to have ecumenical tendencies, and that is what the “Great Monarch” of Catholic prophecies and the final Beast of Revelation would likely have. (cf. Revelation 13:4,8; Daniel 11:36-38)
10. He may be considered to be entitled to use the “King of Jerusalem” title that Otto von Habsburg held. (cf. Daniel 11:31)
11. Charlemagne was a Frank-German leader and “Holy Roman Emperor.”  The Baron is a descendant of the Habsburg line of rulers (the Emperors of the Holy Roman Empire were from the Habsburg line; cf. Revelation 17:9-11). Certain Catholic prophecies indicate that the “Great Monarch” will be a descendant of Charlemagne. Bible prophecies seem to point to the resurrection of an empire that has revived in the past (Revelation 13:1-3; 17:9-11)
12. He has the right to select the priest for his parish.  Hence, the idea that political leaders should be involved with religion is something he was raised up believing. A leader combining church and state is prophesied in Daniel 11:37-38 and Revelation 13.
13. The understanding that his title means “Baron of the Holy Roman Empire” is interesting as the Book of Revelation describes a power that would resemble a re-emergence of “the Holy Roman Empire” and Catholic prophecy specifically tells of a time when “The Great King will be crowned Holy Roman Emperor by the reigning Pope” (Birch DA. Trial, Tribulation & Triumph: Before During and After Antichrist. Queenship Publishing Company, Goleta (CA), 1996,, p. 555). Baron is a title of nobility, but not one of royalty. (Daniel 11:21)
14. The fact that he has been the most popular political leader in Germany suggests that he has a certain charisma that would be consistent with that which is expected for the final Beast leader (cf. Daniel 7:20,11:21-24,31; Revelation 13:3-5).
15. He is believed to carefully cultivate his public image, which seems consistent with the cunning (Daniel 8:25) and other practices of the final Beast leader (Daniel 11:36-38).
16. Because a Catholic monarchist relative (Karl Ludwig Freiherr von und zu Guttenberg) of his was involved in a plot against Hitler in 1944 (and killed for it in April 1945), he may be perceived as less of a threat than others with a German background. (cf. Daniel 8:23-25; 11:24)
17. He is considered to be a smooth talking attractive leader. (cf. Daniel 8:25; 11:21)
18. Some of his entertainment actions suggest that beneath his exterior he may have certain “vile” tendencies (cf. Daniel 11:21). His plagiarism scandal seems consistent with this as well.
19. He has a problem with arrogance and vanity (Daniel 11:36-37).
20. He is in a type of self-imposed exile and it is possible that the King of the North is supposed to have a period of exile. (cf. Daniel 8:23-25; 11:21-23)
21. He has risen to powerful positions quite quickly.  And may do that again. (Daniel 8:23-24)
22. He has been ridiculed and rejected by many. (Daniel 11:21)
23. He has a certain expertise when it comes to computers and surveillance. (cf. Revelation 13:15-18).

If Karl zu Guttenberg is the one who will become the final King of the North of Bible prophecy, then he will emerge further in European politics, even though it would seem he could be expected to have one or more set-backs.  We will see.

Of course, Europe is having problems. But the Bible prophesied that it would (Daniel 2:41-43) and would have to reorganize (Revelation 17:12-13).

A leader known as the final King of the North (or Beast) in Bible prophecy, will ultimately become the leader of Europe.  According to the Bible, he will have military abilities (Revelation 13:1-4), will approve economic controls (Revelation 13:15-17), will be arrogant (Daniel 11:36-37), and apparently be popular and charismatic (cf. Daniel 7:20,11:21-24,31; Revelation 13:3-5).

Former German Economics Minister and Defense Minister Karl zu Guttenberg is a person of interest.

We all should watch (cf. Mark 13:37; Luke 12:37).
