CGI’s Bronson James died

CGI reported the following:

We were deeply saddened on Thursday, January 5, 2023, to learn that our long-time friend and brother in Christ, Bronson T. James, had fallen asleep in the Lord.

Bronson, 76, was a long-time servant of God’s people. He was one of the pioneers of the Church of God International ministry. He pastored churches, served for decades on the CGI’s Ministerial Council and Board of Directors, and was instrumental in the creation and production of the Armor of God television program. He was hired by the CGI in 1988 to manage the Letter Answering Department, and he continued working at the home office, taking on various other responsibilities, until he moved to Detroit, MI, in circa 2002.

I did not personally know Bronson James. As far as his teachings go, he rejected various ones (like prophecies to Ephraim and Manasseh being connected to the British-descended peoples and the USA). Also Bronson James once told ‘The Journal’ that the CGI “has no policy” against members serving in the military” (Overton Mac. COG leaders react to terrorist attacks. The Journal. September 30, 2001).

Church of God, International (CGI) was initially founded by the late Garner Ted Armstrong (GTA) after he was disfellowshiped from the Worldwide Church of God (WCG) in 1978. Approximately 2 decades later, GTA was involved in a publicly reported sexually-related scandal, and many left CGI to found the Church of God Outreach Ministries (CGOM) (Ron Dart, a high level CGI official, also left to found the Christian Educational Ministries). There were many who felt that GTA may have been falsely accused, and they remained in CGI. However, after reviewing a variety of evidence (including possibly a videotape), CGI’s remaining leadership felt it had no choice but to disassociate itself from GTA. GTA then left and founded the Garner Ted Armstrong Evangelistic Association and the Intercontinental Church of God.
