Der Spiegel award-winning ‘journalist’ fake–ICG Mark Armstrong comments

The German publication Der Spiegel learned one of its award-winning ‘journalists’ has been faking ‘news’ articles:

Der Spiegel reporter who faked stories returns awards

The award-winning German journalist who admitted falsifying stories on a large scale over several years has voluntarily handed back four prestigious press awards and been stripped of others.

As the German media world reeled from the revelations about Claas Relotius, who worked for Der Spiegel, rightwing populist organisations claimed that the scandal was proof of their longstanding claims of widespread fake news in the mainstream media. …

The US broadcasting network CNN stripped him of the two journalist of the year prizes it had awarded him and at least one further leading German prize-giver said it was doing the same.

At least 14 articles by Relotius for Der Spiegel were falsified, according to Steffen Klusmann, its editor-in-chief. They include an award-winning piece about a Syrian boy called Mouwiya who believed his anti-government graffiti had triggered the civil war. Relotius alleged he had interviewed the boy via WhatsApp.

The magazine – a prestigious weekly – is investigating if the interview took place and whether the boy exists. …

Essentially, what this and other stories about this incident (which I read earlier today) suggest is that since Claas Relotius’ stories pushed an agenda that various publications supported, he got published frequently and received awards.

Against the failing socialist, politically correct blight roiling Europe is one of the biggest “journalism scandals” anyone’s ever heard of. Der Spiegel is a flagship publication in Europe with tremendous influence, undoubtedly responsible for molding public opinion in Europe and around the world. It’s been heralded as having one of the most formidable fact-checking departments on earth, employing some seventy odd people to make sure of the accuracy and trustworthiness of the publication.

But it turns out that one of their most popular, award winning “journalists” has been inventing people and stories out of whole cloth in his articles, and they just noticed. His articles have covered immigration, including illegal immigration into the United States. He’s also written about the low-rent, deplorable Trump supporters, inventing personalities and conversations that never existed for his articles. Der Spiegel publicly admits what has happened, as has the “reporter” in question, Claas Relotius, who can’t be reached for comment.

We know all about Fake News, having been subjected to an onslaught of attempted brain-washing and mind control by sneering, self-righteous sodomites employed as “news anchors” by national mainstream outlets. It’s a daily phenomenon that has destroyed the credibility of every formerly trusted source of information. …

But they’ve lost their composure completely with the prospect of an interruption in their Utopian dream. The “news” writers and reporters can no longer make a pretense of impartiality. And they’re openly proud of that fact!

The mainstream media rarely pretends to not be biased anymore (although sometimes they still claim to be).
