Earthquake in Haiti: The End of the World?
“Orthodox” 16th Century Representation of the “Apocalypse”
Since late 2009, I have been in Europe and unable to post about the situation in Haiti. LCG, however, posted the following in a commentary by Dr. Scott Winnail that (now that I am in the USA–got back around midnight–I can post):
But why would a loving God, who made the residents of Haiti in His own image, allow such a horrific catastrophe and such tremendous devastation? And why Haiti, a nation that was already experiencing so much difficulty?
Near the end of His earthly ministry, Christ’s disciples asked Him what signs would precede His second coming. In response, Jesus Christ listed numerous events that would signal His impending return, including “earthquakes in various places” (Matthew 24:7). The recent powerful earthquake in Haiti does not mean Christ will return tomorrow. However, it does fit with the signs Christ Himself gave for His return. Read more
LCG also reported:
…my secretary, Debbie, was able to make contact with one of our members in Haiti. Dr. Wilner Pierre was also able to talk to him. This member wasn’t hurt during the earthquake and all his family was protected as well. Because of the chaos, he hasn’t been able to make contact with our other brethren but he said he would try to travel to the location where our deacon lives and where the Church meets, to see how conditions are there. We instructed him to let us know and we will keep you informed. Have a nice Sabbath. – Dibar Apartian
My prayers have often been with the Haitians this past week.
