The ‘Wuhan coronavirus’ has affected more and more and has now hit the USA:

BEIJING (AP) — Chinese authorities Thursday moved to lock down three cities that are home to more than 18 million people in an unprecedented effort to contain the deadly new virus that has sickened hundreds and spread to other parts of the world during the busy Lunar New Year travel period.
Police, SWAT teams and paramilitary troops guarded Wuhan’s train station, where metal barriers blocked the entrances at 10 a.m. Only travelers holding tickets for the last trains out were allowed to enter. Normally bustling streets, shopping malls, restaurants and other public spaces in the city of 11 million people were eerily quiet.
In addition to shutting down the train station, authorities closed the airport and halted ferry, subway and bus service. Police checked all vehicles entering the city but did not close off the roads.
Authorities announced similar measures would take effect Friday in the nearby cities of Huanggang and Ezhou. In Huanggang, theaters, internet cafes and other entertainment centers were also ordered closed.
Seventeen people have died in the outbreak, all of them in and around Wuhan, with the oldest victim 89 and the youngest 48. Close to 600 people have been infected, the vast majority of them in Wuhan, and countries around the world have begun monitoring incoming airline passengers for symptoms of the virus, which an cause fever, coughing, trouble breathing and pneumonia.
The lockdowns are unprecedented in size, embracing more people than the population of New York City, Los Angeles and Chicago combined.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the CDC, has reported the first case in the United States of a new and deadly coronavirus. A resident of Washington state in the Seattle area is infected. The man had traveled to central China to the city of Wuhan, where the virus was first discovered. It has killed at least 17 people, and scientists now say humans can transmit the virus to one another. And as Will Stone from member station KNKX in Seattle reports, officials in Washington state are trying to prevent the spread of the virus, and also projecting calm.

Someone actually telephoned me from the State of Washington yesterday and asked what she could take to fight this coronavirus. I told her that since I had not seen anyone with it, I was unsure, but did (upon her insistence) suggest two herbal formulas which have helped people with other viruses.

The deadly coronavirus disease, which has already claimed the lives of 17 people, appears to have been caused by the consumption of a Chinese delicacy – bat soup reports the Mirror.
Experts believe that fruit bats can be hosts of the deadly virus as researchers “underestimated” the disease, which is akin to pneumonia and SARS, according to findings published in the Chinese Science Bulletin.
The virus originated in the city of Wuhan, a sprawling capital of Central China’s Hubei province. The city has been quarantined, while the virus continues to spread.
Wuhan’s local government stated that it would close all urban transport systems and halt outgoing flights from the city on Thursday, state media reported. … China has confirmed 571 cases of the virus and 17 deaths. …

As the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases nears 650, scientists inside and outside China have speculated that the Wuhan coronavirus was first passed to humans via snakes, badgers, bats or rats.
Some preliminary research that has been picked up by the Western press, including CNN, claims the virus may have been passed to humans by snakes, with the Chinese krait and the Chinese cobra the primary suspects. The many-banded krait, also known as the Taiwanese krait, and the Chinese krait, is a highly venomous species that dwells across central and southern China, and across Southeast Asia more broadly.

People from China are being screened at airports, both in their own country and abroad. They’re being checked for fever and other symptoms of a new respiratory virus.
The virus is a coronavirus. It’s called that because under a microscope, the virus appears to be surrounded by a crown.
The common cold is an example of a coronavirus and so are SARS — severe acute respiratory syndrome — and MERS — Middle East respiratory syndrome. SARS originated 17 years ago at a food market in China. Scientists traced the virus to civets, catlike animals that were sold for food. …
“MERS probably was from bats, but now is endemic in camels all over the Middle East, and spreading from camels to humans,” he said. “For all of these emerging coronaviruses, they have an intermediate host that allows the virus to jump from animals to people.”

No effective treatment
“If you wind up getting a secondary bacterial infection, you can get put on an antibiotic. If you have respiratory distress and you need help breathing, you could be put on a respirator. But there is no proven, specific, effective treatment for the novel coronavirus,” he said.

This new coronavirus is not the first viral problem associated with animals which are unfit for human consumption according to the Bible.
Fruit bats, whether served dry or as part of soup apparently can spread the deadly Ebola virus:
People living in West African communities run the risk of contracting the Ebola virus if they consume species like the fruit bat, the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization, or FAO, said Monday.
Officials must make greater efforts “to improve awareness among rural communities in West Africa about the risks of contracting the Ebola virus from eating certain wildlife species including fruit bats,” the Rome-based organization said in a statement.
The FAO said that populations in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone “are struggling to contain the world’s deadliest recorded outbreak of the virus.”
Ebola “is transmitted by direct contact with the blood and body fluids of infected people as well as infected animals,” the FAO said.
Curbing its transmission is now the chief goal for governments and international health organizatons, the FAO said.
“Fruit bats – usually eaten dried or in a spicy soup – are thought to be the most likely reservoir species for the virus, which they can carry without developing clinical signs of the disease,” because of which the FAO recommends they “should be avoided altogether.” …

No one called of God is shown to have eaten unclean animals in either the Old or New Testaments.
Avoiding consuming biblically-unclean meat is something that is wise.
But since humans often ignore God’s admonitions, more pestilences are expected (e.g. Matthew 24:8).
