NRA: Put more guns in schools for safety?

The National Rifle Association is recommending U.S. schools select and train staffers to carry guns. Former U.S. congressman Asa Hutchinson headed an NRA-funded task force on ways to make schools safer after the December massacre at a Connecticut elementary school.

“Our whole effort is about school safety. So, the impact I hope we have in this news conference and this report, is that we talk about things that will keep children safer in schools, and that is these types of programs,” he said.

The recommendations, released Tuesday, include 40 to 60 hours of weapons training for specially-selected school staff members and a mental health program for students.

Mark Matteoli, a parent of one of the children killed in Connecticut, calls the NRA recommendations a real solution that would make students safer. “This is recommendations for solutions: real solutions that will make our kids safer. And that is what we need,” he said.

If the NRA has its way, as it usually does, states will soon be weakening their gun laws to allow more guns in schools. The top two recommendations Hutchinson announced Tuesday involved firearms in the schoolhouse. The first: “training programs” for “designated armed school personnel.” The second: “adoption of model legislation by individual states to allow for armed school personnel.”

Hutchinson claimed that his task force, which came up with these ideas, had “full independence” from the NRA. By coincidence, the proposals closely matched those announced by the NRA before it formed and funded the task force. The task force did scale back plans to protect schools with armed volunteer vigilantes, opting instead for arming paid guards and school staff — at least one in every school. When I read stories like the above, the following scripture comes to mind:

9…Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
10 Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven. (Matthew 6:9-10)

The USA, like other nations, needs God’s kingdom to come.

The USA likes to pride itself as “the land of the free and the home of the brave.” Yet, the solution to school violence is to add more guns and more people trained in using them?

The way to make schools safer is to teach biblical morality and to have parents spend enough time teaching their children. More guns in schools is not the real answer (and yes, I understand why some think it is a pragmatic solution at this time).

Here is a section of prophetic scripture I would like to quote:

23 ‘Make a chain,
For the land is filled with crimes of blood,
And the city is full of violence.
24 Therefore I will bring the worst of the Gentiles,
And they will possess their houses;
I will cause the pomp of the strong to cease,
And their holy places shall be defiled.
25 Destruction comes;
They will seek peace, but there shall be none. (Ezekiel 7:23-25)

Violence leads to violence.

America is violent. Later it will be consumed by violence (though the final amount will come from external sources) if it does not have national repentance; and prophetically.

But individually, you can repent, even if your nation will not.
