VOA: Biden’s debate performance spurs Democratic panic about his ability to win; COGwriter: The lessor of two evils is still evil
Voice of America posted the following:
Biden’s debate performance spurs Democratic panic about his ability to win
June 27, 2024
ATLANTA — Above all, Joe Biden ‘s allies wanted him to demonstrate strength and energy on the debate stage Thursday night to help put to rest questions about the 81-year-old Democrat’s physical and mental acuity. But on the biggest stage in U.S. politics, Biden did not meet their modest expectations.
And by the end of the 90-minute showdown, the Democratic president’s allies — party strategists and rank-and-file voters alike — descended into panic following a debate performance punctuated by stumbles, uncomfortable pauses, and a quiet speaking style that was often difficult to understand.
Publicly and privately, Democrats questioned whether the party could or should replace him as the party’s presidential nominee against the 78-year-old former President Donald Trump this fall.
“I’m not the only one whose heart is breaking right now. There’s a lot of people who watched this tonight and felt terribly for Joe Biden,” former Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill said on MSNBC. “I don’t know if things can be done to fix this.”
For now, the biggest question for Biden is whether the damage is permanent. Many voters have not yet tuned into an election that’s still more than four months away. The president and his allies are sitting on millions of dollars that have yet to be spent on advertising and swing-state infrastructure.
And there’s precedent for recovering from rough debate performances, including Barack Obama ‘s rebound from an uneven encounter with Mitt Romney in 2012. Democrat John Fetterman went on to defeat a Republican rival in 2022 after struggling through a debate several months after experiencing a stroke.
Biden’s 2024 reelection campaign has been based on a gamble that voters would ultimately support an 81-year-old lifelong politician with weak approval ratings in a rematch that few Americans want. Despite such liabilities, Biden’s team insisted that he was uniquely positioned to stop Trump from returning to the White House — just as he did four years ago.
They have long predicted that Biden’s winning political coalition would eventually embrace the Democratic president after being sufficiently reminded of Trump’s chaotic leadership. But there were little signs of such confidence in the wake of Biden’s underwhelming debate performance. …
Still, signs of anxiety were apparent as Democrats began to openly encourage the party to find an alternative to Biden. Some party officials pointed to a social media post from former Obama campaign aide Ravi Gupta.
“Every Democrat I know is texting that this is bad,” Gupta wrote on X. “Just say it publicly and begin the hard work of creating space in the convention for a selection process. I’ll vote for a corpse over Trump, but this is a suicide mission.”
Under current Democratic Party rules, it would be difficult, if not impossible, to replace Biden as the party’s nominee without his cooperation or without the party officials being willing to rewrite its rules at the August national convention. https://www.voanews.com/a/biden-s-debate-performance-spurs-democratic-panic-about-his-ability-to-win/7676681.html

CNN Chief National Correspondent John King says prominent Democrats are set to ask the White House to force Biden to step down as a presidential candidate after his shocking debate performance last night. …
According to CNN’s John King, there will now be a mad last minute scramble to force Biden off the ticket.
King said there was “A deep, a wide, and a very aggressive panic in the Democratic Party, it started minutes into the debate and it continues right now.”
“It involves party strategists, it involves elected officials, it involves fundraisers. And they’re having conversations about the president’s performance which they think was dismal, which they think will hurt other people down the party in the ticket and they’re having conversations about what they should do about it,” he added.
“Some of those conversations include should we go to the White House and ask the president to step aside, other conversations are about should prominent Democrats go public with that call because they feel this debate was so terrible,” said King.
Democrat political analyst Van Jones also suggested that Biden’s awful night should mean he’s replaced before the convention.
“He had a test tonight to restore the confidence of the country and of the base and he failed to do that,” said Jones.
“And I think there’s a lot of people who are going to want to see him consider taking a different course now, we’re still far from our convention and there is time for this party to figure out a different way forward if he will allow us to do that,” he added, saying it was “personally painful” what he witnessed. https://www.zerohedge.com/political/cnn-chief-correspondent-says-dems-urging-white-house-ask-biden-step-down-after-shocking
I ending up watching more of the debate last night than I had planned to. Specifics aside, there is no doubt that Joe Biden came across old and feeble compared to Donald Trump. I also watched commentary from CNN, NewsMax, NewsNation, Fox, and MSNBC. I have never seen so much commentary on a US presidential debate where there was so much agreement on which candidate lost. And the fact that most of them also quoted Democratic leaders that agreed was something I had never seen before
As far as two specifics to bring up, the first is that both candidates were pro-abortion. With Joe Biden more extreme on the issue and Donald Trump essentially admitting he needed to be careful about it for political reasons, but that he was not a strident anti-abortionist.
The second is that when Donald Trump brought up the topic of Hunter Biden’s laptop and said that Joe Biden owed him an apology on that matter, Joe Biden did get a bit strident and said he did not owe Donald Trump an apology about that or anything else. But the fact is that in the 2020 presidential debate, after Donald Trump brought up the topic of Hunter Biden’s laptop, Joe Biden dismissed that as Russian propaganda–yet it was not and Donald Trump was right. Joe Biden, in my view, did owe Donald Trump an apology about that.
Now, as long time readers of this COGwriter Church of God News page are aware, I have never been a fan of Donald Trump and this goes back years before he directly entered politics. My wife and I saw several episodes of Celebrity Apprentice in 2011. And while one cannot discern all the truth from what a program shows, several decisions that Donald Trump made on that program appeared quite wrong, so I long have had issues with his judgment.
That said, as posted here many times before, I consider that Donald Trump and Joe Biden are evil.
Without going into unique specifics, let’s consider how they are similar:
- They do not live like a member of their professed faiths is supposed to try to live.
- They support LGBTQ rights.
- They have not called for national repentance.
- They have not sought first the Kingdom of God.
- They have all been involved in Administrations that greatly increased USA debt.
- They have all been involved in Administrations that have upset the Europeans.
- They have all been accused of hypocrisy.
- They both make a lot of public lies.
- None have the real solutions for what the USA needs.
Now, I am not trying to say that there are no differences. Yes, I know they have differing economic and climate policies as well as different views on abortion and racial matters. And if Joe Biden does get replaced, the odds are that his replacement will hold to most of the same positions.
As far as being hypocritical goes, the Book of Job teaches:
13 … And the hope of the hypocrite shall perish, (Job 8:13)
The Bible prophecy warns that God will punish and destroy “an hypocritical nation” (Isaiah 10:6, KJV) in a prophecy related to the USA.
The Bible teaches:
1 Cry aloud, spare not;
Lift up your voice like a trumpet;
Tell My people their transgression,
And the house of Jacob their sins. (Isaiah 58:1)
These national sins include abortion, sexuality immorality, promoting pornography, false witness, violence, economic theft through debt and other means, hypocrisy, disdain for the God of the Bible, covetousness, and a host of others.

As far as evil goes, evil is still evil.
Many professing Christians believe that they need to vote even though that concept is not endorsed in the Bible. But the Bible teaches:
2 You shall not follow a crowd to do evil (Exodus 23:2)
The “lesser evil” is still not good.
What should a Christian do?
Jesus said to “seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness” (Matthew 6:33) and to pray for God’s kingdom to come (Matthew 6:10).
As far as political leaders go, the Apostle Paul wrote:
1 Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, 2 for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. 3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior (1 Timothy 2:1-3).
Notice that we are to pray for worldly leaders and those that have authority over us so that we may lead a quiet and peaceful life. Nothing like this is said for voting that many falsely claim is their “Christian” duty–prayer for leaders is.
No matter who you may think is better, the lesser of the evils is still evil.
Related to this and the then upcoming 2020 election, the Continuing Church of God (CCOG) put together the following video on our Bible News Prophecy YouTube channel:
The USA presidential campaign is in full swing. Though Democratic party candidate Joe Biden and Republican party candidate Donald Trump have differing economic and climate policies as well as different views on abortion and racial matters, there are many similarities both share. Do they have policies that they share that are leading to the destruction of the USA? What do Bible prophecies reveal about sexual immorality, debt, and hypocrisy? What are some of the national sins of the USA? Does the Bible endorse voting? What did Jesus teach related to what to seek and pray for? What does the New Testament teach that Christians are to do related to leaders? Is the lesser of two evils still evil? Dr. Thiel goes over these matters, including going over eleven similarities the two major party candidates share and some of what the Bible teaches about evil.

Supporting evil is not the solution for Christians.
Those who are truly part of the Philadelphia remnant will go forward to fulfill Jesus’ commissions in Matthew 24:14 and 28:19-20. They will also support the preparation for the short work of Romans 9:25-28 as well as work to reach the Jews and the full number of Gentiles as recorded in Romans 11:23-25.
We are also to pray for our spiritual leaders. Notice what Jesus taught:
2 The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few; therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest (Luke 10:2).
Notice what Paul taught:
25 Brethren, pray for us (1 Thessalonians 5:25).
1 Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may run swiftly and be glorified, just as it is with you, 2 and that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men; for not all have faith (2 Thessalonians 3:1-2).
We also are to pray:
14 The will of the Lord be done (Acts 21:14).
Similarly, Jesus taught:
7 And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words. 8 Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him. 9 In this manner, therefore, pray:
Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. 10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven (Matthew 6:7-10).
And that, I believe, should be the type of prayer that Christians have about elections and politicians. Followers of the true God are also told to:
5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
6 In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.7 Do not be wise in your own eyes;
Fear the LORD and depart from evil (Proverbs 3:5-7).
The world is changing.
As far as the USA itself goes, the handwriting is on the wall for its coming end.
But, as I wrote before Joe Biden took office, the end will NOT come in the first term of a Biden-Harris Administration.
However, IF certain steps happen in 2024 (like the confirmation of the deal of Daniel 9:27), and:
- If as the School of Elijah taught, that God inspired Elijah to state that the world as we have known it would last 6,000 years, to be followed by a thousand year sabbatical time, which Jewish tradition (Talmud, Tractate Sanhedrin [97a]) and early Christian traditions records (e.g. Irenaeus, a hearer of Polycarp. Adversus haereses, Book V, Chapter 30:4), then we are getting close to the end of that time.
- And if, consistent with scriptures in both the Old and New Testaments, we can apply the concept that a thousand years is as a day to God (Psalm 90:4; 2 Peter 3:8).
- And if, as generally understood in the Church of God that Jesus was killed and resurrected no later than the Spring of 31 A.D. on Passover.
- And if we can presume that the “last days” of a 7,000 year prophetic week began AFTER the middle day (day 4), then the last days prior to the “sabbatical” time, which some would refer to as the millennial Kingdom of God would last two thousand years.
- And if when Peter referred to being in the last days (Acts 2:17-18) and since Hebrews 1:1-12 teaches that “God … has in these last days spoken to us by His Son.”
- Then adding 2,000 years to a period of time leads to the end of the 6,000 years no later than 2031.
- Since the Great Tribulation is expected to start 3 1/2 years prior to that (cf. Revelation 12:14; 13:5) subtracting 3 1/2 years from the Spring of 2031 would be late in 2027.
- Understand that the USA is prophesied to be taken over near the rise of the Beast and start of the Great Tribulation (cf. Daniel 11:39; Jeremiah 30:7; Matthew 24:21-22).
- Therefore, since the end of the next full USA presidential term would end in January of 2029, these prophetic understandings point to the end of the USA prior to the end of the next presidential term.
- This is also consistent with certain Roman Catholic prophetic writings as well.
It looks like from certain Jewish, biblical, Christian, and Roman Catholic perspectives (and yes others associated with those faiths have other opinions), that the end of the USA may well happen before the end of the next presidential term. But we also need to see if the deal of Daniel 9:27 is confirmed in 2024. The final deal has not even been publicly proposed yet alone agreed to.
That said, we also made a video:
Is the USA prophesied to be destroyed by 2028?
Are there prophetic reasons to believe that the USA will not last two complete presidential terms? Yes. There is a tradition attributed to the Hebrew prophet Elijah that humanity had 6,000 years to live before being replaced by God’s Kingdom. There are scriptures, writings in the Talmud, early Christian teachings that support this. Also, even certain Hindu writings support it.

Repentance could delay the disaster coming to the USA (cf. Daniel 4:27)–but that is not expected.
Without national repentance, the end is coming very soon no matter what party wins the USA 2024 presidential election.
Destruction is coming to the USA–as well as its British-descended allies (UK, Australia, Canada, New Zealand)–and it will be worse than most people will believe.
