February 24th marks the third anniversary of Russia’s ‘Special Military Operation’ into Ukraine:

Trump-Putin pressure puts Zelenskyy in focus on Russia war anniversary, insiders say

February 24, 2025

LONDON — President Volodymyr Zelenskyy declared martial law early on Feb. 24, 2022, under Kyiv skies still tinged black by the smoke from Russian missile strikes.

Three years later, the ravaged nation is still living under the extraordinary powers granted to the government in order to sustain its defensive and existential war against President Vladimir Putin’s invading Russian forces. Powers that Russia is wielding to undermine the country’s wartime leader. …

Under the Ukrainian constitution, elections — whether presidential or parliamentary — cannot be held while martial law is in force.

Moscow has for months been seeking to weaponize Ukraine’s democratic freeze, with Putin and his allies framing Zelenskyy as illegitimate and therefore unsuitable to take part in peace talks.

President Donald Trump now appears to be lending his weight to the Kremlin’s campaign. …

A source close to the Ukrainian government — who did not wish to be named as they were not authorized to speak publicly — told ABC News they believe the push is coming from those who “believe that Zelenskyy, personally, is a problem because he is not compliant enough, he’s not simply going to accept anything that they propose or anything that they demand.”  …

Trump’s recent attacks on Zelenskyy appear to have bolstered the latter’s political position. Allies and rivals alike rallied around the Ukrainian president’s office in the aftermath of Trump’s broadsides. …

Even if the U.S. and Russia succeeded in unseating Zelenskyy in favor of a more pliant successor, “if you end up with leadership in Kyiv that is willing to cut some sort of deal that is absolutely unacceptable to a large segment of Ukrainian society, we could see fragmentation, even of the Ukrainian military,” they said. …

The IBF project poll showed a much lower proportion — 26-32% — of Ukrainians would vote for Zelensky in an election. https://abcnews.go.com/International/trump-putin-pressure-puts-zelenskyy-focus-ukraine-marks/story?id=11899805

While most of Europe supports Ukraine, there are other voices with concerns about it. And Ukraine’s President has issues with the USA’s President. Here is one report:

Ukraine Doesn’t Owe the U.S. ANYTHING, Trump ‘Isn’t Forever’, Says Zelensky

February 23, 2025

Speaking to a forum held in Kiev on Sunday, Zelensky said point blank that he would not recognize any of the aid sent from the U.S. as debt owed.

And that’s not the only thing he said that is sure to come as a slap in the face to President Trump and his administration.

Zelensky also took a swipe at President Trump, seemingly minimizing the impact of Trump’s Presidency on the Ukraine-Russia war.

Unlike a dictator or tyrant, President Trump won’t be serving an indefinite term without elections.

Zelensky appeared to twist that fact into a liability connected to any impact Trump may have on the situation. … in essence he is now denying that President Trump carries any weight to create any real change within the situation. …

To his credit, Zelensky did offer to step down in order to help the peace process. …

It could be that Zelensky drops the tough-guy act and comes to the table, where he may find that President Trump would work with him for an end to the fighting in a way that benefits all parties — including the United States.  https://100percentfedup.com/ukraine-doesnt-owe-u-s-anything-trump-isnt/

Here is a report from a Russian perspective:

Three years in the trenches: From ‘Russia’s losing’ to ‘Ukraine is done for’?

24 February 2025

Exactly three years ago, Russian troops entered Ukraine with the aim of forcing Kiev to halt military attacks on the Donbass republics, to ensure its own security, and dismantling a regime that fostered the growth of neo-Nazism in the country. Due to the West’s support for its proxies in Kiev, the conflict has dragged on, and Russia’s military operation has reshaped perceptions of what a modern armed conflict between two large armies – each with its own strengths and weaknesses – should look like. …

In the first half of 2024, the Russian army captured just one city (Avdeevka), but in the second half of 2024, they took control of seven cities and about fifteen urban settlements. In September 2024, the second assault on Ugledar took place. The 2024 offensive campaign culminated in the Kurakhovo operation, the largest since the initial phase of the special military operation.

It’s important to note that these assaults on numerous cities and towns in the DPR were not the goal for the Russian army. Unable to decisively defeat the AFU in maneuver warfare, the Russian military adopted a strategy of “tactical opportunism.” Capitalizing on their numerical superiority and firepower, coupled with complete air superiority, the Russians pressed the Ukrainian army along the entire thousand-kilometer-long front line, exploiting the situation to their advantage wherever Ukrainian defenses faltered.  …

This strategy significantly depleted the Ukrainian army. According to Ukrainian sources, a typical frontline brigade is now at best half-staffed (compared to the well-staffed (85-90%) Russian brigades). The quality of Ukrainian soldiers is also visibly declining: the last major voluntary recruitment consisted of the so-called “assault brigades” formed in early 2023. Since then, most reinforcements have been assembled from forcibly mobilized people, and thousands of conscripts have deserted the front lines. Consequently, operational crises have increased, with undertrained brigades fleeing, leading to the abandonment of several towns and newly established defensive positions. The situation has only been made worse by the Kursk operation, where all fresh, well-prepared, and better-equipped Ukrainian reserves are deployed.

As of February 2025, we’re seeing an ‘operational pause’ at most sections of the front. Both sides are actively preparing for the spring-summer campaign. While we lack a complete picture, there’s a growing sense that the Ukrainian forces may be struggling to prepare for it adequately. So despite being worn down from combat, the Russian army has a real chance of achieving decisive success in the next six months to a year. This could lead to the collapse of Ukrainian defenses, and potentially to the collapse of the front for dozens or even hundreds of miles.

Of course, this campaign may never take place. Negotiations between Washington and Moscow are currently underway, which could ultimately determine Ukraine’s fate without a final battle. https://www.rt.com/russia/613211-ukraine-russia-three-years-of-war/

Is Ukraine “done for”?

US President Donald Trump basically seems to believe that if the US does not guarantee Ukraine’s likely revised borders (meaning it will likely officially cede territories it lost to Russia), Ukraine is done for (see Donald Trump said that Ukraine “may be Russian someday”).

It is not likely that without USA help, Ukraine can stop a possible takeover by Russia, so its Volodymyr Zelensky may wish to reconsider his statements–including earlier ones that he would not agree to ceding any territory, including Crimea to Russia.

Do I expect Ukraine to get all of its former territories back?

No.

Because of prophecies related to the “kings of the Medes” in the Book of Jeremiah, in the Fall of 2013 I wrote that Russia would end up with some territory that Ukraine claimed. The first fulfillment of that was when Russia annexed Crimea in 2014, and then other territories in 2022.

Let me add that on the Sabbath of February 5, 2022, I did a sermonette where I mentioned that lands associated with Ukraine would end up being confederate with Russia:

21:20

The situation between Russia and Ukraine has again heated up, although it has been tense since the Euromaiden protests and Russia’s annexation of Crimea. There was later a separation of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church from the Russian Orthodox Church. Is war prophesied for Russia and Ukraine? Are prophecies in the Bible associated with the ‘kings of the Medes’ and a power from the “north country” related to any in Russia and Ukraine? Is a confederation of powers from the north, east, and central Asia prophesied to destroy the coming end time European Babylon? Will the destruction be reminiscent of what happened to Sodom and Gomorrah? How is the King of the North and who will destroy him? Do those in Russia and Ukraine have a hope of salvation? Will Russia and powers of the east be involved in the gathering in Armageddon as prophesied in Revelation 16? Dr. Thiel addresses these issues.

Since that came out, more territories that Ukraine once controlled are now controlled by Russia.

While Ukraine has put up a lot of resistance to Russia’s Special Military Operation, Russia is larger and has more troops, etc.

Remember that Jesus taught:

31 Or what king, going to make war against another king, does not sit down first and consider whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand? 32 Or else, while the other is still a great way off, he sends a delegation and asks conditions of peace. (Luke 14:31-32)

Ukraine may wish to reconsider where it is at to see if now it believes it should attempt to make a deal with Russia–particularly with Donald Trump now US President. The longer the conflict continues, the less territory that Ukraine will likely have.
