The Associated Press reported the following:
US consumer prices soared 6.8% in past year, most since 1982
December 10, 2021
WASHINGTON (AP) — Prices for U.S. consumers jumped 6.8% in November compared with a year earlier as surging costs for food, energy, housing and other items left Americans enduring their highest annual inflation rate since 1982.
The Labor Department also reported Friday that from October to November, prices jumped 0.8%.
Inflation has been intensifying pressure on consumers, especially lower-income households and particularly for everyday necessities. It has also negated the higher wages many workers have received, complicated the Federal Reserve’s plans to reduce its aid for the economy and coincided with flagging public support for President Joe Biden.
Fueling the inflation has been a mix of factors resulting from the swift rebound from the pandemic recession: A flood of government stimulus, ultra-low rates engineered by the Fed and supply shortages at factories in the U.S and abroad. Manufacturers have been slowed by heavier-than-expected customer demand, COVID-related shutdowns and overwhelmed ports and freight yards. …
The result has been price spikes for goods ranging from food and used vehicles to electronics, household furnishings and rental cars. …
The persistence of high inflation has surprised the Fed, whose chair, Jerome Powell, had for months characterized inflation as only “transitory,” a short-term consequence of bottlenecked supply chains. Yes, COVID policies and the printing up on money (called “a flood of government stimulus” above), are factors. Factors that did not have to happen as they did.
Furthermore, this should NOT have been a surprise for the US Federal Reserve as its members have studied economics.
Let me also state that since the US government CHANGED how it calculates the inflation rate, it is actually higher than the 6.8% annual rate claimed. Here is a chart comparing how it is now done, compared to basically how inflation numbers used to be calculated:

The current inflation number is, thus, worse than in 1982.
While we are not there yet, the Bible prophesies the following:
6 And I heard a voice from among the four living beings say, “A loaf of wheat bread or three loaves of barley will cost a day’s pay. And don’t waste the olive oil and wine.” (Revelation 6:6, NLT)
Revelation 6:5-6 is discussing food price inflation.
COVID-19 policies are sort of a ‘self-inflicted’ wound that is contributing to food shortages. People are suffering because of them. Sadly, it looks like more will as well.
We know more hunger is coming as Jesus said:
11 And there will be great earthquakes in various places, and famines and pestilences; (Luke 21:11a)
What should Christians who are not hungry do?
Other than take preparatory steps for their own family (see Physical Preparation Scriptures for Christians), the Bible also teaches:
27 Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, When it is in the power of your hand to do so. (Proverbs 3:27)
9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith. (Galatians 6:9-10)
14 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? 17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. (James 2:14-17)
22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. (James 1:22)
Those who believe the Bible are to do good as soon as we can, to the extent that we can.

The Wall Street Journal, Reuters, UN’s FAO, and others are reporting food price inflation as well as often selected shortages of some food items. Might it get worse? Did Jesus prophesy famines?
