ATHENS, Greece (AP) — Greece’s prime minister was fighting to keep his government intact in the face of outrage over an austerity bill that parliament must pass Wednesday night if the country is to start negotiations on a new bailout and avoid financial collapse.

The raft of consumer tax increases and pension reforms will condemn Greeks to years of more economic hardship and has fueled anger among the governing left-wing Syriza party.

Civil servants protested with a 24-hour strike that disrupted public transport and shut down state-run services across the country. Clashes broke out at a demonstration attended by about 12,500 anti-austerity protesters rallying outside Parliament. ATHENS — After protesters clashed with police outside, Greece’s parliament accepted harsh terms early Thursday to receive nearly $100 billion in the country’s third bailout in five years.

To pass the measures and avoid economic collapse without a financial rescue, Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras was forced to cobble together enough support from opposition parties because his own ruling party opposed the plan.

The vote — cast about two hours after the midnight Wednesday deadline — will allow Athens to receive a financial lifeline from its international creditors, but comes at a significant cost of higher taxes, deep cuts in pensions and other government benefits and the sale of most state assets.

The measure passed after at least 10 separate protests and a general strike crippled the Greek capital Wednesday as demonstrators called for the government to reject the new rescue package or try to renegotiate for better terms from international creditors that include the European Central Bank, eurozone governments and the International Monetary Fund. http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2015/07/15/greece-parliament-bailout-vote/30176167/

Protests turned violent in Athens on Wednesday, as Greece faced a crucial vote that would decide whether the country would accept reforms, and ultimately, the country’s future in the eurozone. A demonstration erupted in chaos as petrol bombs were let off in front of the Greek Parliament and police tear-gassed the crowd.

Demonstrators threw rocks and Molotovs in Syntagma Square in the center of Athens,sending people fleeing through the smog of tear gas, reported the Guardian. Many of the Greeks feel that they have sacrificed enough and do not feel that they should be under this deal that their Prime Minister and the Europeans put together. The problem is that the Greeks want to borrow money and their lenders have said that the Greeks need to accept an objectionable plan if they want the funding.

This unrest it not unexpected as I have repeatedly posted that civil unrest and/or riots would happen in Greece.

At this news page, I first reported that we may see civil unrest in Europe on November 3, 2007. And specifically related to austerity protests, back in 2010 (see Civil War in Greece?), I warned, “Austerity measures in Europe will likely cause civil unrest.” As well later in December 2010 (see Civil Unrest in Greece (and it was predicted).

In more recent times (including related to the current situation), I wrote:

I still expect to see more civil unrest in Greece… Post 7/13/15 First step of an agreement with Greece reached, but . . .

I believe that the European powers want Greece to feel more pain for a while so that they will have more influence over Greece. Given enough pain, look for civil unrest and even violent riots in Greece. If Greece feels trapped, look for more discussions with Russia.

Look for more calls for financial controls and possible currency changes.

If any think that the problems in Greece were resolved by yesterday’s vote, they are in error. Post 7/06/15 Greece voted against EU offer, but now hopes Europeans will loan more money

Ultimately, as I have written for years, I expect more civil unrest in Greece… Post 6/29/15 Greece says it will default, stock markets drop, Puerto Rico also may default

Greece, whether or not it pays or defaults or continues to renegotiate its debt, will ultimately be part of the end time Babylonian beast power.

But we should expect to see civil unrest in Greece and other parts of Europe before it all comes together. Post 2/24/15 Eurozone leaders grant Greece an extension: Babylon the Great will form

World events are aligning with properly understood biblical prophecy.

Despite protests and riots, ultimately, Greece will end up as a nation that will support the final King of the North European Beast power.

The Bible is clear that the final European Beast power will be a mixture of of weak and strong parties that do not adhere particularly well together per Daniel 2:41-43. The end result will be that the Beast power will arise and surprise many (Revelation 13:1-4).
