Australia to monitor internet to reduce recruiting by the Islamic State

Australia has announced a plan that it hopes will reduce terrorists:

SYDNEY—The Australian government plans to monitor social media in real time to try to combat terrorist propaganda on the Internet.Ministers said the effort will help authorities identify and dismantle online messages of hate from groups such as Islamic State.One of Canberra’s most pressing security concerns is homegrown extremism, and the ability of radical groups overseas to reach out to Australian Muslims through the Internet.

About 90 young Australians are thought to be fighting with Islamic State militants in Syria and Iraq.

Attorney-General George Brandis said the plan to monitor social media would help thwart extremists who use the Internet to “weaponize information.”

Brandis said the new initiative, announced on the sidelines of a White House summit to counter violent extremism, would help dismantle Web content that supports terrorism.

“We are monitoring social media for the purpose of identifying and, where appropriate, taking down terrorist propaganda,” he said.

Would need support

The plan would need the support of Internet service providers (ISPs) and companies such as Google and Facebook to trawl social media looking for offensive posts and videos.

There are concerns that Australia’s efforts might infringe privacy, but Jon Lawrence from the digital rights advocacy group, Electronic Frontiers Australia, believed individual freedoms were not at risk.

“I don’t think we’re necessarily looking here at something that’s going to be sort of wading through individual people’s Facebook pages until such point as they might have been identified as somebody of interest,” Lawrence said.

The government also wants to counter hate-filled propaganda videos with its own messages to try to prevent young Australian Muslims from being recruited by militants online.

David Connery from the Australian Strategic Policy Institute said targeting the right people would not be easy.

“It is going to be very, very hard. The idea of a counter narrative has been discussed for some time. But what I think they’re trying to do is add to the government’s overall disruption strategy towards terrorism,” he said.

While Australia does have a problem with having some there interested in terrorism, I do not believe its new program will stop it. Yes, it probably will prevent some from joining the Islamic State. But, terrorism will continue, and based upon several of the following biblical prophecies, I believe that Australia will be hit by more terrorism:

14 ‘But if you do not obey Me, and do not observe all these commandments, 15 and if you despise My statutes, or if your soul abhors My judgments, so that you do not perform all My commandments, but break My covenant, 16 I also will do this to you: I will even appoint terror over you, wasting disease and fever which shall consume the eyes and cause sorrow of heart. And you shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it. 17 I will set My face against you, and you shall be defeated by your enemies. Those who hate you shall reign over you, and you shall flee when no one pursues you. (Leviticus 26:14-17)

25 The sword shall destroy outside; There shall be terror within (Deuteronomy 32:25)

12 “Cry and wail, son of man; For it will be against My people, Against all the princes of Israel. Terrors including the sword will be against My people; Therefore strike your thigh. (Ezekiel 21:12)

12 Behold, these are the ungodly,Who are always at ease; They increase in riches…19 Oh, how they are brought to desolation, as in a moment! They are utterly consumed with terrors. (Psalms 73:12,19)

25 Because you disdained all my counsel, And would have none of my rebuke, 26 I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your terror comes, 27 When your terror comes like a storm, And your destruction comes like a whirlwind, When distress and anguish come upon you. (Proverbs 1:25-27)

5 Also they are afraid of height, And of terrors in the way (Ecclesiastes 12:5).

The Bible also shows that a confederation will form against the end time descendants of Israel, which will include Australia, the USA, their Anglo-Saxon allies, and Israel. People of Arab and Middle Eastern descent will call for it:

4 They have said, “Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation, That the name of Israel may be remembered no more.”

5 For they have consulted together with one consent;
They form a confederacy against You:
6 The tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites;
Moab and the Hagrites;
7 Gebal, Ammon, and Amalek;
Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre;
8 Assyria also has joined with them;
They have helped the children of Lot. (Psalm 83:3-8).

And I have long believed that terrorism will have to be part of this.

Now you might be thinking, this says ‘Israel,’ so what does this have to do with Australia?

Let’s notice something from the Bible:

14 Then Israel stretched out his right hand and laid it on Ephraim’s head, who was the younger, and his left hand on Manasseh’s head, guiding his hands knowingly, for Manasseh was the firstborn. 15 And he blessed Joseph, and said:

“God, before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked,
The God who has fed me all my life long to this day,
16 The Angel who has redeemed me from all evil,
Bless the lads;
Let my name be named upon them, (Genesis 48:14-16)

Notice that Israel said he wanted his name on the descendants of Ephraim and Manasseh. Hence, certain biblical prophecies that mention ‘Israel’ are referring to descendants of Ephraim and Manasseh.

Where are the end time descendants of Ephraim and Manasseh?

Notice something from a Jewish source:

The Malbim interprets the blessing of Jacob (Genesis 48) to Ephraim would become great before Manasseh. Ephraim would become great through his own merits and self-assertion almost from the beginning. Manasseh would wait until the vast numbers of his population and the weight of his blessing would of itself result in greatness. We identify Ephraim with the British and Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the whites of South Africa. The USA is Manasseh. The interpretation of the Malbim concerning Ephraim and Manasseh fits historic reality. (Davidiy, Y. The Tribes, 4th edition. Russell-David Publishers, 2011, p. 384)

The prophecies in Psalm 83 are partially directed towards those in Australia as are several of the terrorism prophecies listed earlier in this post (see also Anglo – America in Prophecy & the Lost Tribes of Israel).

Australia hopes that it will be able to minimize terrorism. However, its problems will not truly go away until Jesus comes and establishes the millennial kingdom of God.
