‘Brothers’ of Islamic State claimed to be responsible for Texas terror shooting: more justification for Jade Helm?

HOUSTON—

Police in Garland, Texas, a Dallas suburb, shot and killed two men who they said began shooting at a security officer outside a building where a free speech event was taking place Sunday.

The event included a contest for cartoons of Islam’s Prophet Muhammad, of whom visual representation is considered blasphemous by many devout Muslims.

Officials said police were on hand and responded quickly when a car drove up outside the arena where the event was taking place and two men began firing weapons at the security officer outside. In the exchange of gun fire police say both alleged attackers died and the security officer suffered non-life-threatening wounds.

The bodies of the two men remained by the vehicle long after the shooting as police brought in a robotic device and explosive experts to check the car.

Investigation

Garland Police Department spokesman Joe Harn told reporters on the scene that police have just started their investigation of the incident. …

A wide area around the crime scene has been blocked off by police as they proceed slowly and cautiously to inspect the vehicle used by the gunmen. Harn said they have no indication of explosives being in the car, but they are taking no chances.

“It is a matter of precaution; because of what has happened and what has happened at other events involving these people, we are taking every precaution we can. We evacuated businesses that were close by, we evacuated the event center by putting people in Garland school buses and taking them away from that area,” Harn said.

The New York-based American Freedom Defense Initiative sponsored the event, which included an awards ceremony for cartoon depictions of the prophet Muhammad. The organization’s president, Pamela Geller, described the shooting as a terrorist attack on her website, and said, “this is a war on free speech.”

Efforts to block Islamic center

According to trial testimony, Simpson is an American Muslim who became the subject of a criminal investigation in 2006 because of his association “with an individual whom the FBI believed was attempting to set up a terrorist cell in Arizona,” U.S. District Judge Mary H. Murgia said in her order convicting Simpson.

“I’m telling you, man, we can make it to the battlefield,” Simpson said in May 2009, according to a recording of him and an FBI informant disclosed during Simpson’s trial. “It’s time to roll.” The FBI said Simpson had reserved a flight to South Africa for Jan. 15, 2010. He was arrested the day before the flight. …

According to mainstream Islamic tradition, any physical depiction of the Prophet Muhammad – even a respectful one – is considered blasphemous. Drawings similar to those featured at the Texas event have sparked violence around the world.

The contest Sunday, hosted by the New York-based American Freedom Defense Initiative, was awarding $10,000 for the best cartoon depicting the Prophet Muhammad. The event featured speeches by American Freedom Defense Initiative president Pamela Geller and Geert Wilders, a Dutch lawmaker known for his outspoken criticism of Islam. Wilders received several standing ovations from the crowd and left immediately after his speech.

(Reuters) – Texas police shot dead two gunmen who opened fire on Sunday outside an exhibit of caricatures of the Prophet Mohammad that was organized by a group described as anti-Islamic and billed as a free-speech event.

Citing a senior FBI official, ABC News identified one of the gunmen as Elton Simpson, an Arizona man who was the target of a terror investigation. FBI agents and a bomb squad were searching Simpson’s Phoenix home, ABC said.

Phoenix’s KPHO TV reported that the second man lived in the same apartment complex as Simpson, the Autumn Ridge Apartments. He was not identified, and the second man’s apartment was searched, the station said, quoting an FBI agent. …

The shooting in a Dallas suburb was an echo of past attacks or threats in other Western countries against art depicting the Prophet Mohammad. In January, gunmen killed 12 people in the Paris offices of French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo in what it said was revenge for its cartoons.

The attack on Sunday took place at about 7 p.m. local time in a parking lot of the Curtis Culwell Center, an indoor arena in Garland, northeast of Dallas. Geert Wilders, a polarizing Dutch politician and anti-Islamic campaigner who is on an al Qaeda hit list, was among the speakers at the event.

Garland police and the FBI had no immediate comment on the report.

I have covered news items related to Geert Wilder in the past (e.g. Geert Wilders responds to Pope Francis and explains why he feels Islam is violent). He is a strong voice warning Europe about Islamic influence. But he also has concerns about the EU itself (see Geert Wilders wants Netherlands to vote to leave EU; Herman Von Rompuy expresses disappointment with USA).

Anyway, getting back to Texas, the Islamic State has made threats against the USA in the past. And now it is claiming to have had some impact in Texas.

As far as terrorism goes, as I have written before, it is prophesied in the Bible:

14 ‘But if you do not obey Me, and do not observe all these commandments, 15 and if you despise My statutes, or if your soul abhors My judgments, so that you do not perform all My commandments, but break My covenant, 16 I also will do this to you: I will even appoint terror over you, wasting disease and fever which shall consume the eyes and cause sorrow of heart. And you shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it. 17 I will set My face against you, and you shall be defeated by your enemies. Those who hate you shall reign over you, and you shall flee when no one pursues you. (Leviticus 26:14-17)

25 The sword shall destroy outside; There shall be terror within (Deuteronomy 32:25)

Terror has again hit within the borders of the USA.

But that is not all that is going on with Texas.

Many in Texas are concerned about an upcoming militaristic exercise called Jade Helm (see Disaster preparations: A prelude to martial law?). Here is some more information on it:

Jade Helm 15 is a planned United States military training exercise that is scheduled to take place over multiple states in the US from July 15 through September 15, 2015. It will involve U.S. Army Special Operations Command (SOC) with other U.S Armed Forces units in a multi-state exercise that includes Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah and Colorado. The SOC claimed, “the size and scope of Jade Helm sets this one apart” from previous training exercises.

The planned exercise is unusual in that it attracted the interest of commentators, conspiracy theorists and politicians about the prospect of martial law in the region. The Austin American-Statesman newspaper noted that after plans and maps of the exercise were made public, there was an “explosion of outrage on social media after the release of the map, which labeled Texas, Utah and the southern tip of California as ‘hostile.'” There was also speculation that shuttered Walmart stores would be used for “guerrilla-warfare staging areas and FEMA processing camps.”

On April 28, Texas governor Greg Abbott ordered the Texas State Guard to monitor the operation, declaring, “During the training operation, it is important that Texans know their safety, constitutional rights, private property right and civil liberties will not be infringed.” (Jade Helm 15, Wikipedia, accessed 05/04/15)

If you haven’t heard about Jade Helm 15, you need to. It is multi-state training mission for special operations soldiers scheduled over an eight-week period in July and August, with most of the activity happening on private property but some public, too. The official website press release from March 24 admits: “While multi-state training exercises such as these are not unique to the military, the size and scope of Jade Helm sets this one apart.”

Gov. Abbot was right in writing Maj. Gen. Gerald Betty, “During the training operation, it is important that Texans know their safety, constitutional rights, private property rights and civil liberties will not be infringed.” Abbott is demanding “regular updates on the progress and safety of the Operation.”

Concerned Texans and Americans are in no way calling into question our brave and courageous men and women in uniform. They are merely following orders. What’s under question are those who are pulling the strings at the top of Jade Helm 15 back in Washington. The U.S. government says, “It’s just a training exercise.” But I’m not sure the term “just” has any reference to reality when the government uses it.

“Well, I’m not trusting what we’re being told,” said Mike Hightower, an affable antique store owner and real-estate agent in the very small town of Smithville, Texas, where some Jade Helm 15 exercises will take place. He added, “I think there’s something a little more involved than what they’re telling us.”

If Washington wants to cool the embers of controversy, then it should quit stoking the fire, as with the posting of a map of Jade Helm 15 “just” exercises that label some areas of the country, including Texas, as “hostile,” according to KHOU 11 News in Houston and verified by the Washington Post.

I have an idea: If the government insists on running expanded military ops across seven Southwest states, why doesn’t it move all that “military training” south and protect our borders at the same time?!

Whatever Jade Helm 15 actually is, I think it is more than coincidental that the FBI director just confessed in February that the presence of ISIS can be felt in all 50 states of the U.S. and that the Pentagon is suddenly running its biggest military training exercise with every branch of the military across seven Southwestern states. …

In the past, politicians like Hillary Clinton have said that the government should never ‘waste a crisis.’ Perhaps the incident last evening in Texas will provide the federal government more ‘justification’ for exercises like Jade Helm.

Anyway, expect more terrorism, civil unrest, and militaristic governmental responses.
