Cameron, Obama, Russia, G20, & Syria
David Cameron
UK Prime Minister David Cameron announced information about Sarin gas use in Syria upon arrival in Russia for the G20 meeting:

The UK has fresh evidence of the use of chemical weapons in Damascus, David Cameron has told the BBC as he arrives in Russia for the G20 summit.
Scientists at the Porton Down laboratories have been “examining samples” from Syria’s capital, he said.
Mr Cameron denied claims he had “no hand to play” over Syria after losing a vote last week on UK military action.
He said the UK would lead calls for more action on aid for refugees and push for fresh peace talks. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-23975030

U.S. President Barack Obama is pressing world leaders at the Group of 20 summit in Russia for backing of a possible U.S. strike on Syria.
Russian President Vladimir Putin announced plans to add Syria to the agenda shortly after summit participants arrived Thursday in St. Petersburg.
In an opening session, Putin said some leaders had asked him to set aside time to discuss “very acute topics of international politics,” in particular Syria. He said talks could take place during Thursday’s working dinner (approximately 16:00 UTC).
The Syrian crisis is not on the official agenda for the two-day global economic summit, but Obama and other leaders have been discussing the issue on the sidelines…
On Wednesday, Putin warned Western strikes without U.N. Security Council approval would be an unacceptable “aggression.” But he said he would support a strike if there were “convincing” proof that Damascus used chemical weapons.
White House adviser Ben Rhodes says there are currently no plans for a bilateral meeting between Obama and Putin, but there will be opportunities for “interactions” between the two leaders on the sidelines of the summit.
Rhodes told reporters on Air Force One en route to the summit the United States will continue to present evidence to Russia that the Syrian regime was behind the attack, but will not “entertain implausible theories.”
Russia has been a key ally to Syria. Russia says Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem is traveling to Moscow for talks on Monday about the crisis.
Russia and China have already vetoed three U.N. Security Council resolutions that would have punished President Assad’s government.
The U.S. hosted a series of briefings at the U.N. Thursday. Afterwards, U.S. Ambassador Samantha Power said Russia continues to hold the Security Council hostage on Syria, and shirk [avoid] its international responsibility. http://www.voanews.com/content/obama-presses-syria-strike-at-g20-summit/1743731.html

DAMASCUS, Syria (AP) – The sound of artillery reverberated Thursday through a predominantly Christian village north of Damascus as government troops and al-Qaida-linked rebels battled for control of the mountainside sanctuary. http://www.chron.com/news/world/article/Syrian-rebels-try-to-overrun-Christian-village-4788195.php
Things aren’t exactly warming up between the Obama administration and Vladimir Putin, even as President Obama arrived in St. Petersburg for the G-20 summit.
Putin called Obama Secretary of State John Kerry a liar over Kerry’s testimony this week before Congress.
The question may be al-Qaeda’s influence on the Syrian rebels, an issue Kerry has downplayed.
Speaking to his human rights council Wednesday, Putin said, “This was very unpleasant and surprising for me. We talk to them (the Americans), and we assume they are decent people, but he is lying and he knows that he is lying. This is sad.” http://www.usatoday.com/story/theoval/2013/09/05/obama-kerry-putin-syria-russia-g-20/2769683/
Interestingly, Pope Francis may be taking a position closer to Russia’s than the USA’s and UK’s as he sent the following to Russia’s President Putin:
Below is…the Pope’s letter to President Putin. To His Excellency
Mr Vladimir PutinPresident of the Russian Federation“In the course of this year, you have the honour and the responsibility of presiding over the Group of the twenty largest economies in the world. I am aware that the Russian Federation has participated in this group from the moment of its inception and has always had a positive role to play in the promotion of good governance of the world’s finances…
Nevertheless, the meeting will surely not forget the situation in the Middle East and particularly in Syria. It is regrettable that, from the very beginning of the conflict in Syria, one-sided interests have prevailed and in fact hindered the search for a solution that would have avoided the senseless massacre now unfolding. The leaders of the G20 cannot remain indifferent to the dramatic situation of the beloved Syrian people which has lasted far too long, and even risks bringing greater suffering to a region bitterly tested by strife and needful of peace. To the leaders present, to each and every one, I make a heartfelt appeal for them to help find ways to overcome the conflicting positions and to lay aside the futile pursuit of a military solution. Rather, let there be a renewed commitment to seek, with courage and determination, a peaceful solution through dialogue and negotiation of the parties, unanimously supported by the international community. Moreover, all governments have the moral duty to do everything possible to ensure humanitarian assistance to those suffering because of the conflict, both within and beyond the country’s borders.
Mr President, in the hope that these thoughts may be a valid spiritual contribution to your meeting, I pray for the successful outcome of the G20’s work on this occasion. I invoke an abundance of blessings upon the Summit in Saint Petersburg, upon the participants and the citizens of the member states, and upon the work and efforts of the 2013 Russian Presidency of the G20. While requesting your prayers, I take this opportunity to assure you, Mr President, of my highest consideration.”From the Vatican, 4September 2013

Pope Francis has written a letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin, host of the G-20 summit that President Obama is attending, urging world leaders to oppose a military intervention in Syria.
“To the leaders present, to each and every one, I make a heartfelt appeal for them to help find ways to overcome the conflicting positions and to lay aside the futile pursuit of a military solution,” the Pope urged. “Rather, let there be a renewed commitment to seek, with courage and determination, a peaceful solution through dialogue and negotiation of the parties, unanimously supported by the international community.”
The move is the latest in a series of efforts by the Holy See to prevent military action in the already civil-war torn region. On Sunday, the Pope declared in his Angelus teaching that Saturday Sept. 7 would be an day of fasting and prayer for peace in Syria. http://swampland.time.com/2013/09/05/pope-tweets-against-syria-strike-writes-putin-plans-saturday-vigil/#ixzz2e3NGL33T
The above article forgot to mention that the pontiff wants people to pray and fast for ‘Mary’ to intervene in Syria (see Pope Francis’ ‘solution’ to Syrian crisis will not work). But if Russia opposes military intervention, Pope Francis seems to wish to back him.
The G20 meetings are supposed to be economic but often world events affect what will be covered. There are economic matters that will be covered, but the press will most likely focus mainly on Syria.
Syria has a role in prophecy, but most of the press dismiss the fact that the Bible shows that its capital Damascus will be destroyed per Isaiah 17:1.
