Kim Jong Un, angered by the newest U.S. sanctions, is warning that North Korea’s commitment to denuclearization could be imperiled and we could be headed for “exchanges of fire.”
Iran, warns Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, is testing ballistic missiles that are forbidden to them by the U.N. Security Council.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has warned that, within days, he will launch a military thrust against U.S.-backed Kurdish forces in northern Syria, regarding them as allies of the PKK terrorist organization inside Turkey.
Vladimir Putin just flew two Tu-160 nuclear capable bombers to Venezuela. Ukraine claims Russia is amassing tanks on its border.
How did the United States, triumphant in the Cold War, find itself beset on so many fronts?
First, by intervening militarily and repeatedly in a Mideast where no vital U.S. interest was imperiled, and thereby ensnaring ourselves in that Muslim region’s forever war.
Second, by extending our NATO alliance deep into Eastern Europe, the Balkans and the Baltics, thereby igniting a Cold War II with Russia.
Third, by nurturing China for decades before recognizing she was becoming a malevolent superpower whose Asian-Pacific ambitions could be realized only at the expense of friends of the United States.
The question, then, for our time is this: Can the U.S. pursue a Cold War policy of containment against both of the other great military powers, even as we maintain our Cold War commitments to defend scores of countries around the globe? …
Can we, should we, pursue a Cold War with Russia and China, using Kennan’s containment policy and threatening war if U.S. red lines are crossed by either or both?

Pat Buchanan is correct that the USA is facing many enemies.
But he has overlooked biblical prophecies, in my view.
While the USA is looking at possibly militarily dealing with Russia, China, North Korea, terrorists, and other nations, the biblical reality is that a German-dominated Europe will end up being the main military power for a time.
Notice something from over 45 years ago from the old Radio Church of God:
Germany and World War III
… Germany is … going to spark World War III! Notice the prophecies! “O Asshur, the rod of Mine anger,” declares God. Here is a prophecy concerning Germany — the descendants of Asshur today! “The staff,” says God, “in their hand is Mine indignation. We are seeing steps in Europe to prepare to lead WW3 while the USA is looking at trying to prepare to deal with Russia, China, etc.
Europe, at the USA’s insistence, is building up its own army.

PESCO and a Great European Army
In November 2018, French President Macron called for a “true European army” because of China, Russia, and the USA. Some others in Europe have echoed that sentiment. On November 9, 2018, US President Donald Trump called that an insult, but the next day said that the USA wanted “a very strong Europe.” Emmanuel Macron referred to Donald Trump as “my friend” and indicated a desire to strengthen Europe’s military spending. In December 2017, 25 European nations agreed to be part of a military alliance called PESCO. Europe also has NATO and IEI. Will Europe end up with “a great army”? Has Donald Trump’s announcement to withdraw from the 1987 Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty gotten some to say that Europe must rebel against the USA? Is the idea of a United States of Europe and a European army a “paranoid fantasy” or a biblical reality? Will the USA regret Europe becoming a stronger military power? Will the USA be betrayed by “friends” such as its continental European allies? Does the Bible teach any or all of this? A panel of experts has issued a hard-hitting and sober assessment of US President Donald Trump’s National Defense Strategy.
“The global role the United States has played for many generations rests upon a foundation of unmatched military power,” its report says.
“Today however, our margin of superiority is profoundly diminished in key areas.”
“There are,” the study insists, “urgent challenges that must be addressed if the United States is to avoid lasting damage to its national security.”
The National Defense Strategy Commission was tasked by Congress to give an independent, non-partisan review of the Trump administration’s defence strategy. It was chaired by Eric Edelman, a former Pentagon official in George W Bush’s administration, and Admiral Gary Roughead, a former chief of naval operations. These are insiders who know their way around a defence budget, as well as the corridors of the Pentagon.
“The security and wellbeing of the United States are at greater risk than at any time in decades,” the report asserts. “America’s military superiority has eroded to a dangerous degree.” https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-46219481
Note that in Lamentations 1:1-2, it indicates that the USA will be betrayed and destroyed militarily by its “friends.” Russia and China are not considered to be USA allies, but Europe is.
Europe does not have to be stronger in all areas than the USA, only enough to win when the USA is not expecting it.
The greatly indebted USA cannot afford to prepare to fight all its potential enemies.
This will not end well for the USA (Cf. Habakkuk 2:6=8; Daniel 11:39).
