Chaos and civil unrest in Catalonia, Spain

Spain has been dealing with major protests in Catalonia:

Spanish government efforts to block a regional referendum on Catalonia’s secession, have degenerated into violence as police shut down polling stations and confiscate ballot boxes, despite resistance by voters throughout the region.

According to Catalan officials more than 460 people are being treated for injuries in clashes that are intensifying as voter frustration grows at police patrols moving through Barcelona and other Catalan cities.

Spain’s Vice Prime Minister Soraya Saenz de Santamaria said Sunday in Madrid, “There has been no referendum or appearance of any.”

She said police dismantling of internet connections to the regional census bureau has neutralized any ability to formulate voting results. But spokesmen for the Catalan regional government that called for the vote, say at 73 percent of voting stations are open and their own technicians are trying to fix downed internet lines.

A Catalan official connected with the regional election commission that resigned last week under government threats of massive fines said voting results will be announced after midnight or sometime Monday.

The source, speaking to VOA on condition of anonymity, says votes will be counted manually and results announced by a special election board being formed by “experts and academics”. Spanish Interior Minister Juan Ignacio Zoido says that attempts to legitimize today’s vote are a “parody.”

Scenes of chaos and violence unfolded in Catalonia as an independence referendum deemed illegal by Madrid devolved quickly on Sunday. …

Spain’s Interior Ministry said a dozen police officers were injured. NPR’s Lauren Frayer reports from Barcelona that some people were throwing rocks down at officers from balconies.

Yet the violence came from all directions.

“Horrible scenes,” Lauren reports. “Police dragging voters out of polling stations, some by the hair.”

Sadly, civil unrest should not come as a surprise to longtime readers of this page.

Back in 2010 I wrote (see Civil Unrest in Greece (and it was predicted):

Civil unrest in Europe is expected. Places such as France, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Italy, and Eastern Europe have potential for this occurrence.

And back in May 2012, I warned that more unrest was expected to come from Spain (see Over 100,000 Protest Austerity in Spain).

Later, on September 26, 2012, I warned (see Protests and Unrest in Spain and Greece):

I expect more civil unrest in Europe. Specifically more in Greece and Spain, as well as Eastern Europe. But I also expect that even in countries like Germany, Austria, and/or the Netherlands and elsewhere there will be unrest, including violent unrest.

Expanded civil unrest will have major impacts on the euro and on Europe itself. It is highly likely to propel a European leader to rise up. The final leader will be the one known as the Beast (Revelation 13:3-4) and final King of the North (Daniel 11:22-44) of Bible prophecy.

Europe is prophesied to have problems (Daniel 2:41-43) and not all the problems have happened yet. Spain and other parts of Europe are likely to have even more significant civil unrest before a strong leader is granted power (cf. Revelation 17:12-13).

As far as Spain goes, my wife and I visited it for the first time earlier this year. We specifically were in the Catalonia region–specifically Barcelona. We saw various protest signs and even an independence protest rally. The vast majority in the Catalonia region want to be a separate state, within the European Union, but not within Spain itself.

Spain will have problems. There will be more civil unrest in Spain.

There will be more civil unrest in Europe.

This will help lead to the rise of one promising peace, but delivering tyranny:

25 And through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand. (Daniel 8:25, KJV).

23 And after the league is made with him he shall act deceitfully, for he shall come up and become strong with a small number of people. 24 He shall enter peaceably, even into the richest places of the province; and he shall do what his fathers have not done, nor his forefathers: he shall disperse among them the plunder, spoil, and riches; and he shall devise his plans against the strongholds, but only for a time. (Daniel 11:23-24, NKJV)

So this leader gives people the impression that there will be “peace” and is involved in some type of deal. This is the same leader that confirms the covenant in Daniel 9:27. The term translated as “peace” in Daniel 8:25 is from the Hebrew term shalvah and essentially means security. In other words, this leader will destroy “many” who are under the impression that they are secure because of some type of security and/or trade arrangement. Such arrangements are now commonly referred to as peace deals or treaties.

This leader will be a man of war according to Revelation 13:1-4.

Warring leaders tend to gain credence in times of unrest.

We are getting closer to that time.

World events are aligning with properly understood prophecy.
