Beijing, Apr 6 (EFE).- China said Wednesday that the recent announcement by Australia, the United States and the United Kingdom to cooperate in the development of hypersonic weapons “intensifies the arms race,” which is why “the nations of Asia must be extremely vigilant.”

“Under the guise of the crisis in Ukraine or maintaining security in the Asia-Pacific region, these countries have now come together to cooperate in the development of hypersonic weapons. Well, this will only increase the risk of nuclear proliferation and intensify the arms race,” Chinese foreign spokesman Zhao Lijian said Wednesday.

“Asian nations must be extremely vigilant” following the latest announcement by these three countries – which make up the AUKUS security alliance – Beijing has previously referred to as “the NATO of the Pacific,” he said.

In one of his last speeches, Foreign Minister Wang Yi criticized the creation of the pact and said it goes “against the spirit of peace for the countries of that region.”

“The real goal of the US strategy in the Pacific is to establish a version of NATO. This is a region that wants development and cooperation, it is not a chess game board. China rejects any attempt to create circles of influence,” the Chinese diplomat said in March.

The United States, United Kingdom and Australia announced … they will work together via the recently created security alliance known as AUKUS to develop hypersonic missiles.

The move comes amid rising concern by the U.S. and allies about China’s growing military assertiveness in the Pacific. China believes, correctly, that the AUKUS group and its military plans are intended towards reducing China’s military influence in the Asia-Pacific region.

China objected to AUKUS last September (see China NOT pleased with AUKUS alliance; France also upset) and this announcement on hypersonic weapons is disturbing to it. China is interested in Australia and one day may very well control it.

That being said, it is not just China that is disturbed by AUKUS, much of Europe is as well (see also AUKUS alliance; EU wants its own stronger military).

AUKUS is one of several USA moves, including its withdraw of troops from Afghanistan last year, getting Europe to wish to develop its own military–one independent of the USA.

AUKUS sparking European military

In September 2021, US President Joe Biden, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, and Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced a new military partnership called AUKUS. This announcement upset the French and the European Union, which is not part of it. Could AUKUS be another spark for the Europeans to develop their own joint military? What have European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and former German Vice Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel called for? Could having the Europeans increase their military capacity and technology and be dangerous? Is the European King of the North, also called the King of Assyria, prophesied to destroy the USA (Daniel 11:39) and its British-descended allies? What could stop that? Is national or personal repentance possible? Do the nations need Jesus or military alliances?
