Australians enjoying a sunny winter morning were surprised by the sight of three Chinese warships steaming into to Sydney Harbour Monday, forcing the prime minister to reassure jittery residents.

Amid heightened concern about Beijing’s growing clout and military muscle flexing, the appearance of a Chinese flagged task group and around 700 sailors came as a surprise.

“It may have been a surprise to others, but it certainly wasn’t a surprise to the government,” said Prime Minister Scott Morrison, trying to dampen concerns.

“We have known about that for some time,” he said of the visit during a trip to the Solomon Islands. …

“Chinese naval visits to Australia have more typically been a lone frigate, not a task group with an amphibious assault ship and 700 personnel,” Rory Medcalf, head of the National Security College at Australian National University, tweeted.

The reader who sent the link made the following comments:

Once the Australians get used to such “friendly” visits (3 ships, with tactical capability and 700 crew – really?), a final not-so-friendly visit may spell the end of their freedom and sovereignty.

This is reminiscent of the woman who tolerates just a little more mistreatment as time goes by, until she finds herself in the hospital and asks herself “How did this happen? How did it come to this?”

There are real risks to Australia.

Are Chinese threats against Australia for real?

The Chinese paper ‘Global Times’ has carried threats in 2011 and 2016 suggesting the China would militarily intervene against Australia. It has declared that Australia is a ‘paper cat,’ that China will get revenge against it, and that Australia would be no more. Is this possible? Are there biblical and other reasons to think that this threat is real? Dr. Thiel answers these questions and brings up the fact that he has been warning about this threat since last decade.
