Donald Trump went with the Republican establishment in tapping Indiana Gov. Mike Pence as his running mate, picking a political partner who has executive and congressional experience as well as support within the GOP’s conservative base. …
Pence didn’t even endorse Trump ahead of Indiana’s Republican primary on May 3 — the governor went with Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, a strong social conservative — but quickly switched to the New York businessman after his big win in the Hoosier State all but nailed down the Republican presidential nomination.
“I’m going to campaign hard for the Republican nominee because Indiana needs a partner in the White House,” Pence said during his endorsement speech of Trump.

Conservatives pleased
Republican establishment figures generally welcomed the news that Pence will be Trump’s running mate, citing his reputation as a staunch traditional social conservative who could bring some stability to the ticket. House Speaker Paul Ryan praised the choice, citing Pence as someone who “makes a compelling case for conservatism.”
Several analysts agreed. “Pence will help Trump cozy up with traditional conservatives,” said John Hudak, a Senior Fellow in Governance Studies at the Brookings Institution in Washington. “Pence helps a little bit more with social conservatives” than some of the other contenders and “offers some of the government ‘chops’ (expertise) that you typically look for in a candidate.”
Pence was elected Indiana governor in 2012 and previously served six terms in the House of Representatives where he established a record as a traditional small-government conservative who had strong support from social conservatives and evangelical Christians as well. http://www.voanews.com/content/article/3419778.html

Perhaps Trump’s most ardent supporter among political analysts, author Ann Coulter, panned the pick before it was even officially announced.
She called it “Trump’s first mistake” and described Pence as a “combo-platter of disaster.”
“He’s all in for corporate America bringing in as many guest workers as they please to replace American workers, (and) tried to sell the monster amnesty as a ‘compromise bill,’” she wrote on Facebook.
“He also somehow managed to tick off both sides in gay marriage debate. After his state passed a law passed protecting Christians from having to participate in gay marriages, all hell broke loose,” she added. “First, he allowed himself to be portrayed as a right-wing homophobic nut and then — just days later — he sold out to the left-wing activists, anyway.”
Fox News anchor Bret Baier commented that what Pence brings most is a contrast in campaign styles to Trump.
Fox News media analyst Howard Kurtz tweeted: “Hillary camp was already locked and loaded on Mike Pence: ‘The most extreme pick in a generation’”

By picking Mike Pence as his running mate, Donald Trump has doubled down on some of his most disturbing beliefs by choosing an incredibly divisive and unpopular running mate known for supporting discriminatory politics and failed economic policies that favor millionaires and corporations over working families.
Pence is the most extreme pick in a generation and was one of the earliest advocates for the Tea Party. He was the first of GOP leadership to join Michele Bachmann’s Tea Party Caucus. As governor, Pence personally spearheaded an anti-LGBT law that legalized discrimination against the LGBT community, alienated businesses, caused boycotts, lost investments and embarrassed Hoosiers– a law he was later forced to revise. Pence also personally led the fight to defund Planned Parenthood while serving in the House and fought to pass Indiana’s 2016 anti-abortion law, with some of the most outrageous restrictions in the country that threatened women’s privacy and limited their choice. And just like Trump, he’s been a long-time opponent of comprehensive immigration reform.
Pence has been no economic leader or friend to the American worker. In fact, he wants to get rid of the very wages that make the middle class possible. Pence opposes raising the federal minimum wage and signed a law allowing skilled workers in Indiana to be paid less. Hillary Clinton is a staunch supporter of baby killing (abortion) and thus it is of little surprise that her campaign blasted Mike Pence on this.
