Donald Trump interested in USA being an associate member of the British Commonwealth

I have seen a couple of reports related to the possibility of the USA being offered associate member status in the British Commonwealth of Nations. Notice:

Right-wing British Member of Parliament Nigel Farage responded favorably to the idea of the United States joining the British Commonwealth after President Donald Trump suggested it could happen on Friday.

Newsweek has reached out to the British prime minister’s office, Farage and the Commonwealth for comment on Saturday. …

“A Commonwealth with the USA would complete the alliance of the English-speaking peoples and help prevent the spread of CCP influence. I helped to launch the Royal Commonwealth Society of America in 2017,” the member of parliament, who has been a close international ally of Trump for years, wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

Trump shared an article on Friday morning from British tabloid The Sun reporting that King Charles III was making a “secret offer” to the White House, and that plans are in process for the U.S. to become an associate member of the international organization.

“I Love King Charles. Sounds good to me!” Trump wrote in response to the report. The president again posted a link to the article on Saturday morning.

According to The Daily Mail, the king is expected to offer to make the U.S. the 57th member of the Commonwealth at a time when America’s relationship with the European Union (EU) has been strained …

While joining the Commonwealth would largely be symbolic, as the group does not affect governance of its member nations, the move could potentially be used to help avoid the heightened tariffs on steel and aluminum Trump has promised, according to The Daily Mail. …

The king invited Trump back to the U.K. for another visit in a letter hand-delivered by British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer on his late February trip to the White House. The Royal proposal is said to potentially reduce tensions between the White House and Canada.

The monarch has supposedly made a ‘secret offer’ to Donald Trump during a state visit

The invitation was hand-delivered by PM Keir Starmer to the US President

Plans are allegedly in the works to make the USA the next “associate member” of the Commonwealth.

The international association, which currently boasts 56 states, could welcome the US as a new member. …

The Commonwealth of Nations, more commonly referred to as the Commonwealth, is an international association of 56 member states, many of which are former territories of the British Empire.

Connected by their use of the English language and historical-cultural ties, the group works to support each other economically and socially to spearhead development.

The Commonwealth dates back to the first half of the 20th century when decolonisation was rampant throughout the British Empire.

King Charles acts as Head of the Commonwealth, in addition to his position as serving as king over 15 of the member states – known as the Commonwealth realms.

The Royal Commonwealth Society is planning to open a branch in New York with a view to bringing the U.S. into the fold as an “associate member.”

The project, said to be backed by the Queen, has come about in part as a result of Donald Trump’s fondness for Britain and the Royal Family.

It follows efforts to develop the Commonwealth as a tool for building relationships on foreign policy and trade following Britain’s exit from the EU.

Lake said the plans had been hastened by the “opportunity of a new president, and the slightly dangerous but great fun opportunity that the ‘Bad Boys of Brexit’ offered”.

In December, Lake wrote a letter to Trump, which was hand-delivered by Andrew Wigmore, an aide to Nigel Farage, and then passed on by the former Ukip leader.

Wigmore joined Farage and Arron Banks, the millionaire businessman, in visiting Trump after the US election and continues to have close ties with the administration.

Farage, who has emerged as an ally of Trump, promoted the idea with senior aides, reportedly presenting the letter to Steve Bannon, the president’s chief strategist.

He believes the Commonwealth alliance fits well with Trump’s foreign policy outlook.

The president, for example, is said to have expressed his desire for India to be a “true friend and partner” in a phone call with Narendra Modi, the country’s prime minister.

Lake wrote that opening a Commonwealth branch in America would help the UK and the US “find imaginative ways” to work together.

Wigmore told The Daily Telegraph the response from the White House was “very positive”.

Although Lake has not yet received a formal confirmation, discussions are said to be under way to establish an office in New York.

This is an interesting development.

Whether or not the USA decides to become an ‘associate member’ of the Commonwealth or not, I have long expected that the USA would get closer together with the UK, Australia, and New Zealand on trade and other matters.

8. Trade

Not all warfare is militaristic. There is also economic warfare.

This often involves trade.

The major use of sanctions, mainly pushed by the USA, has been continuing.

This is affecting trade and pushing trade away from the USA. But also encouraging the Anglo-nations to try to increase trade with each other.

Back in 2008, I posted the following:

In the spirit of accommodation and personal interest, many of the “standards” of the European Union will be adopted by the USA, Canada and Mexico, as well as by nearly all of the countries of the world. The Arab nations will most likely agree with many of the standards as they seem to be destined to form a brief end-time alliance with the Europeans (The Arab World In the Bible, History, and Prophecy).

However, over time, it will become increasingly clear that the British will be in more agreement with the Canadians and Americans and that the European Union in more agreement with the Mexicans than the EU will have with the English-speaking nations.

Trade wars and/or serious trade disputes will most likely arise.

The Brits will ultimately decide that they are more supportive of the Americans and Canadians. They will be so much more supportive that they will end up in a trading agreement with them (with the Australians and New Zealanders probably also becoming part of that agreement).

The EU will decide that Mexico and the rest of Latin America are in more agreement with it and thus make some type of serious trading agreement with most (or all) of Latin America. The Vatican will also have influence here as Latin America is highly Roman Catholic.

The Europeans and Americans, however, will continue to have military agreements, though many will be tense about them. (Thiel B. A Combined EU & North American Trade Block Coming? COGwriter.com, March 3, 2008)

Since the above was posted, the Europeans and Americans continue to have military agreements, the UK essentially reduced its trade from the rest of Europe because of Brexit, today we see a UK-NZ trade deal, the EU has made trade deals with Mexico and Latin America (see EU’s Juncker essentially verified accuracy of 2008 COGwriter prediction on trade), the USA made a new trade deal with Canada (see Brexit: ‘The end is nigh’ and Donald Trump signs Canada-Mexico trade deal), the UK and EU continue to have trade friction (see DW: EU-UK trade war looming as Northern Ireland Protocol tensions hit boiling point), and the EU has continued to push its standards (which is one of the reasons there is an issue related to Brexit and Northern Ireland). In 2021, the UK made deals with New Zealand (see CNN: New Zealand and the United Kingdom reach free trade deal) and Australia (see UK & Australia make trade deals, so?). And the USA made a special deal with the UK and Australia (see AUKUS alliance; EU wants its own stronger military).

Expect the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand to try to increase trade with each other.

Donald Trump feels that the USA and UK have a special relationship and he will look to make a more favorable trade deal with the UK than with the rest of Europe.

If the USA does become part of the Commonwealth, that could be consistent with what I wrote back in 2008, especially if trade issues are involved with that.

In 2024, it was reported that Donald Trump believes that the USA has a special relationship with the UK and wants to give the British a more favorable trade agreement than he wants to give those in the European Union.

That being said, the USA, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom still do have a special relationship, as well as a biblically fraternal one.

Despite the current rifts with Canada, there still is a “special relationship” that the USA has with the UK, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand.

Having the USA cooperate more with the UK (whether or not any type of member in the Commonwealth) will also send a signal to the Europeans that the USA would prefer to focus on the post-Brexit UK and not the EU.

This will continue to be the case–off and on–though there will still be cooperation between the USA and Europe until the Europeans actually invade the USA–which will come to pass according to biblical prophecy (e.g. Daniel 11:39; watch also Do these 7 prophesies point to the end of the USA?).

Many interesting events are occurring. Having the USA in the Commonwealth would certainly be one.
