In Greenland, Vance said the U.S. has “no option” but to take a significant position to ensure the security of the island as he encouraged a push in Greenland for independence from Denmark.

Danish foreign minister scolds Trump administration after Vance trip to Greenland

The Danish foreign minister scolded the Trump administration on Saturday for its “tone” criticizing Denmark and Greenland during Vice President JD Vance’s visit to the strategic island.
Vance — joined by his wife, second lady Usha Vance, national security adviser Mike Waltz, Secretary of Energy Chris Wright and Sen. Mike Lee of Utah — on Friday visited the Pituffick Space Base, the northernmost U.S. military installation, in Greenland. …
“There is no amount of bullying, no amount of obfuscating, no amount of confusing the issue,” Vance said. “Our message to Denmark is very simple: You have not done a good job by the people of Greenland, you have underinvested in the people of Greenland, and you have underinvested in the security architecture of this incredible, beautiful landmass filled with incredible people. That has to change. Despite what JD Vance said, the USA looks to be acting like a bully in order to attain more influence in Greenland.

US President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance doubled down Thursday and Friday on their threats to annex Greenland, which Trump previously threatened to conquer by force. …
Vance railed against the United States’ European allies, stating that they have “neglected international security for 40 years” and have “used America as a piggy bank… used us to absorb all of their excess economic production.”
Addressing the people of Greenland in the manner of a mafia enforcer, Vance said, “I think that you’d be a lot better coming under the United States’ security umbrella than you have been under Denmark’s security umbrella.”
When asked by a reporter why “the President has previously not ruled out military force when he’s talking about taking over Greenland,” Vance responded, “We do not think military force is ever going to be necessary” because “the people of Greenland are rational.”
In other words, Vance explained that, faced with the threat of attack by the world’s largest military power, the territory of just 56,000 people will be expected to make the “rational” choice and surrender to US demands.

The United States has significantly scaled back its own Arctic defense spending over the decades, including in Greenland.
To that end, Denmark’s Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen said that the United States had maintained 17 bases and more than 10,000 service members across the territory during the Cold War, but now only maintained the one base with about 200 personnel.
Denmark, meanwhile, is currently engaged in a $2 billion push to modernize its capabilities in the region. Rasmussen also noted a desire to spend more.
“[Vance] has a point that we haven’t done enough, but I’m a little provoked because it’s also the Americans who haven’t done enough,” Rasmussen said.
Similarly, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said that the Trump administration’s characterization was not a fair one and went against the spirit of the close alliance the two powers have shared for more than 80 years. https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/greenland-denmark-push-back-vances-visit
The Trump-Vance Administration is upsetting many nations. The fact is that there will be many unintended consequences of Donald Trump’s and JD Vance’s statements, threats, and policies.
They are pushing away many allies and offending a lot of them. More and more are seeing the USA act as a bully.

Donald Trump’s foreign policy statements have unsettled many—in the USA as well as foreign nations. He is believed by many to be more unpredictable than Richard Nixon. Many have rightly pointed out that he often acts as a bully.
Greenland
There is also something referred to as the “law of unintended consequences.” There are consequences for the USA, Europe, and elsewhere that have and will occur because of Donald Trump’s statements and actions.
Consider, for one example, that after his reelection, Donald Trump stated that the United States needed to have Greenland for defense and economic purposes. Not only did that offend the governments of Denmark and Greenland, the Danish government then announced that it would greatly increase the amount of money it would spend on the defense of Greenland.[i]
On January 7, 2025, Donald Trump refused to rule out military or economic actions to acquire Greenland.[ii] The next day, European leaders warned they would not tolerate an attack on Greenland and that the continent of Europe was strong.[iii]
Donald Trump then stated he would implement high tariffs against Denmark to try to get it to sell Greenland to the USA.
However, that overlooks the fact that the European Union has its Anti-Coercion Instrument, which is designed to stop a foreign power from trying to punish one EU nation. Because of that, analysts report that punitive tariffs against Denmark “could lead to unintended consequences” from the EU against the USA.[iv]
One longer term consequence of Donald Trump’s rhetoric may be that the Europeans could decide that Greenland would be a useful place to conduct surveillance on the US and Canada.
Additionally, it is also possible that Greenland could be used as a base to 1) interfere with US military satellite communications, 2) possibly neutralize some US military moves in Greenland, or even 3) a place to also launch an attack against the US, Canada, and/or even the UK. The Bible teaches about a great power who will be destroyed by its friends, who become enemies (Lamentations 1:1-2)—some statements by Donald Trump are pushing “friends” (NATO allies) into being enemies. …
The USA will be attacked by “friends” consistent with the following:
1 How lonely sits the city
That was full of people!How like a widow is she,
Who was great among the nations!The princess among the provinces Has become a slave!
2 She weeps bitterly in the night,
Her tears are on her cheeks;
Among all her lovers
She has none to comfort her.All her friends have dealt treacherously with her;
They have become her enemies. cf. Lamentations 1:1-2).Notice the one who was “great among the nations” will be conquered by friends, who will become enemies.
The USA was prophesied to be “great” in Genesis 48:19 and is considered by international sources to be great among the nations of the world today.[v]

Others have noted that Donald Trump is treating nations who are considered to be “friends” as enemies (e.g. see RT: Zelensky says US doesn’t care about EU; BBC: Frenemies?).
The Bible warns about a great power who will be destroyed by its friends, who become enemies (Lamentations 1:1-2).
And yes, a more militarized Greenland could play a role in the conquering of the USA–which is prophesied to happen (cf. Daniel 11:39).
