German Chancellor Olaf Scholz met with his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, in Paris on Sunday to mark 60 years since the signing of the Elysee Treaty.

Speaking at the Sorbonne University, Germany’s Scholz said the future of Europe rested on the “driving force” of Paris and Berlin.

“The German-French engine is a machine for compromise — well oiled, but from time to time also loud and marked by hard work,” the German chancellor said. …

The Elysee Treaty between France and Germany, sealed in 1963, laid the foundation for close bilateral collaboration between the two former enemies.

Scholz, Macron, and around 300 lawmakers from both countries gathered at the Sorbonne for a ceremony to celebrate the occasion.

Macron told the audience that Germany and France had “cleared the path to reconciliation,” and must therefore “become pioneers to relaunch Europe.”

Tensions between Berlin and Paris

The last bilateral Cabinet meeting, originally scheduled for this past October, was canceled — or, as France was quick to stress, “pushed back” — despite the fact that the Elysee Treaty requires one such meeting per year.

The scheduling change was the climax of months of increasingly difficult ties between the two sides.

During that time, Germany, among other things, signed a deal for a new European air defense system that didn’t include France — spurning Paris’ own joint initiative with Italy.

For its part, France agreed on a new hydrogen and gas pipeline with Spain and Portugal, disregarding a project favored by Germany. Macron also publicly scolded Germany for “isolating itself.”

But that canceled ministerial meeting turned out to be a wake-up call, according to Stefan Seidendorf, deputy director of Ludwigsburg-based think tank German-Franco Institute (DFI).

“Berlin government officials were astonished by the public pressure the ‘delay’ created,” he told DW.

“They had thought that the Franco-German relationship would just automatically continue on a good track, but that wasn’t the case,” he explained.

Related to the coming Beast power, the Bible teaches:

40 And the fourth kingdom shall be as strong as iron, inasmuch as iron breaks in pieces and shatters everything; and like iron that crushes, that kingdom will break in pieces and crush all the others. 41 Whereas you saw the feet and toes, partly of potter’s clay and partly of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; yet the strength of the iron shall be in it, just as you saw the iron mixed with ceramic clay. 42 And as the toes of the feet were partly of iron and partly of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong and partly fragile. 43 As you saw iron mixed with ceramic clay, they will mingle with the seed of men; but they will not adhere to one another, just as iron does not mix with clay. 44 And in the days of these kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed; and the kingdom shall not be left to other people; it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever. 45 Inasmuch as you saw that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it broke in pieces the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver, and the gold — the great God has made known to the king what will come to pass after this. The dream is certain, and its interpretation is sure. (Daniel 2:40-45)

So, there will be a disunity in the European Beast, and ultimately, God will have it destroyed. The New Testament teaches that as well in Revelation 17:14.

That said, about a year and one-half after the Elysee Treaty, the late Dibar Apartian wrote the following in an article titled De Gaulle and the Next World War:

Where the French Think They Are Headed

Backed by unparalleled self-confidence, President de Gaulle affirmed that France’s number one task is the UNION of Europe.

“It is fact,” De Gaulle assured the Frenchmen, “that in trying to place our relationship with Germany on a new basis, we must endeavor to see that the European Economic Community is truly a community and truly European …. ”

President de Gaulle’s immediate goal is his “Europe des patries” (Europe of fatherlands) which would cap the Common Market with a POLITICAL organization where ultimate decisions would lie with “heads of governments.”

Frenchmen are convinced today that their country is headed toward power and prosperity. Their UNION with Ger- many and the other nations of the Common Market fills them with a sense of security. The fact remains, however, that the ties that bind these “heads of governments” are much less solid than they appear. France and Germany have always been traditional enemies. Their present “unnatural” union is dictated by the necessities of STATE policy which seeks for power in numbers-NOT m true friendship. …

Where God Says French Are Headed

Time and again, you have read in the pages of The PLAIN TRUTH what God says is actually going to happen before the second coming of Jesus Christ. … in accordance with God’s Word, a political UNION of TEN nations or governments-which the Bible calls “the beast”-will rise in Europe in the end time. This union of ten European nations will MAKE WAR with the descendants of Jacob, particularly the two sons of Joseph, Ephraim and Manasseh, whose modern descendants are the peoples of the BRITISH COMMONWEALTH and the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

This soon-coming union of ten nations or governments prophetically represents the last “head” of the resurrected “beast”-the revival of the “Holy Roman Empire” (Rev. 17:9-12).

But contrary to what you may think, it will NOT consist only of Gentile nations. It will INCLUDE a group of ISRAELITISH nations. “Come out of her, my people,” says God in Revelation 18:4. “My people” means Israelites in Bible prophecy. Yes, once again, Joseph’s own brothers will sell him to the Gentiles! Once again REUBEN (the first-born of Jacob who anciently conspired with his brothers, will “act” in terms of saving him, but end up by compromising with his brothers to send him into CAPTIVITY.

Ever since the early days of American history, the French have been on our side. There exists a brotherly link among all the ISRAELITISH nations. Nevertheless, by uniting politically with the “beast,” some of the modern Israelites will be instrumental in conquering the United States and Great Britain. (Apartian D. The Living Church of God is not sure about that bolded portion above (see The ‘Lost Tribe’ of Reuben: France in Prophecy?), but we in the CCOG agree with Dibar Apartian on this.

Despite unity issues, Europe will get together and support a dictatorial beast (Revelation 17:12-13)

How will it end for Europe and France?

Badly per Revelation 18.

In particular, and even prior to that end, the Bible shows that it will not end well for Israel (Daniel 11:31), the USA & its Anglo-Saxon-Celtic allies (Daniel 11:39; see also USA in Prophecy: The Strongest Fortresses), the Islamic countries of the Middle East and North Africa (Daniel 11:40-43), or even Europe (Daniel 11:44).

But despite that, many in Europe want some revival of the old ‘Holy Roman Empire,’ and some version will re-emerge–but not last (cf. Revelation 17:14; Daniel 2:44-45).

The good news is that it will be replaced by the return of Jesus and the millennial Kingdom of God.
