Europe and USA divided on Russia; should Europe step up its independent military capacity?

And then there’s a second element to all of this: the division between the Americans and the Europeans. The Americans have now decided to play this tough, and to be very robust on Russia, and to not let this kind of Russian attack on the post-Cold War order in Europe stand. But the Europeans are not anywhere near that. The Europeans are playing it a lot softer, and are a lot more wedded to the diplomatic approach, with soft sanctions. What we therefore see is not only a division amongst the Europeans, but also a division between the Americans and the Europeans. And that doesn’t bode well for a very united and forceful position vis-a-vis Russia…

Germany has functioned in an environment where it has believed that a system of force should prevail. The current German military is called the Bundeswehr. It is reported that:

The Deutsche Welle article mentioned divisions between the Europeans and Americans regarding Russia and Ukraine. But, it should be noted that the divisions between the Americans and Europeans are greater than this. There are divisions related to the Snowden espionage scandal and economic interests. The time will come that these differences will have devastating consequences.

Because of the situation with Russia and Ukraine, various ones are advocating that Europe increase its military power and spending. Some come from Europe, others elsewhere. Notice the following that was posted with Forbes:

The Eastern Europeans, with the exception of Poland, have been reducing their defense outlays as well…

Still, despite Europe’s anemic military efforts, its capabilities far outrange Russia’s reach. In 2012 the other 27 NATO members spent $319 billion on their militaries, compared to $91 billion by Moscow. With a collective GDP more than eight times that of Russia, the Europeans could do far more if they desired. Moscow can beat up on its weak neighbors, not conquer the continent…

That last statement is more dangerous than most Americans realize.

The biblical ramifications of a Europe that can defend itself on its own soon are enormous.

Notice that military leaders in Europe seem to want this as well:

Military chiefs have said the Ukraine crisis is a “wake-up call” for EU countries’ defence spending, as the US backed Ukraine’s use of force in eastern regions…Maciej Popowski, said: “We’ve had 70 years of peace now [in Europe], but we see that power politics is back with a vengeance, so it’s a wake-up call and now we need to get serious about defence.”

More Europeans are starting to see that they want to have more military power.

The Bible tells of a time when a final Beast power will rise up in Europe. Because of real divisions between the USA and Europe, Europe, despite the fact that it does not seem like it wants to will attack and takeover the USA.

5 O Assyrian, the rod of mine anger, and the staff in their hand is mine indignation. 6 I will send him against an hypocritical nation, and against the people of my wrath will I give him a charge, to take the spoil, and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets. 7 Howbeit he meaneth not so, neither doth his heart think so; but it is in his heart to destroy and cut off nations not a few. 8 For he saith, Are not my princes altogether kings? 9 Is not Calno as Carchemish? is not Hamath as Arpad? is not Samaria as Damascus? 10 As my hand hath found the kingdoms of the idols, and whose graven images did excel them of Jerusalem and of Samaria; 11 Shall I not, as I have done unto Samaria and her idols, so do to Jerusalem and her idols? *Isaiah 10:5-11, KJV)

39 Thus he shall act against the strongest fortresses with a foreign god, which he shall acknowledge, and advance its glory; and he shall cause them to rule over many, and divide the land for gain. (Daniel 11:39)

The Bible talks about a beast of the sea that had a deadly wound to one of its heads that was healed:

3 And I saw one of his heads as if it had been mortally wounded, and his deadly wound was healed. And all the world marveled and followed the beast. (Revelation 13:3)

While the above likely has multiple interpretations, such as with the old ‘Holy Roman Empire,’ could this not also refer to a leader whose political career and/or or an empire that was believed to have been destroyed, who later returns?

Notice the verse that comes after Revelation 13:3:

4 So they worshiped the dragon who gave authority to the beast; and they worshiped the beast, saying, “Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with him? (Revelation 13:4)

Notice that this beast has military ability.

While many do not think that much will happen with Europe’s military, the recent events in Ukraine, Russian military matters, and the relative decline of the US military are all motivating various ones in Europe in general and Germany in particular to want to step up the military presence in Europe.

Germany still wants to lead all of Europe–the Bible supports that this will happen. The Ukrainian situation, including calls from Americans, is feeding into the split between the USA and Europe and Europe’s military rise.
