European Commission proposing taxes to pay for COVID relief: A step towards the fulfillment of Daniel 11:20?
Today, the EU is among the first to deliver on the historic global tax reform agreed at @OECD and @g20org level.

The European Commission presented on Wednesday (22 December) three new sources of revenues for the EU´s coffers aimed at both repaying the coronavirus recovery fund and supporting vulnerable households in the transition towards climate neutrality.
The package of so-called “own resources” includes revenues from the EU’s carbon market, from a new carbon border levy and from a tax targeting the world’s biggest multinationals — bringing in income up to €17bn per year, from 2026 onwards.
Own resources, which refers to the money that the EU collects directly itself, are expected to help finance the repayment of the €800bn joint debt raised by the EU for its post-pandemic recovery package.
EU countries, the EU executive and the MEPs agreed to introduce new own resources in 2020, but some of the ideas have proved to be politically controversial.
The EU Commission has proposed that 25 percent of revenues from the cap-and-trade EU Emissions Trading System (ETS) should flow into the EU budget, generating €12bn annually, on average, from 2026 to 2030. …
The new tax, which was presented earlier this year, is seen as a key tool to prevent businesses from transferring production to non-EU countries with less strict climate rules – dubbed ‘carbon leakage’. …
In addition, the EU Commission wants to collect between €2.5bn and €4bn per year in corporate taxes from the biggest multinationals.
This source of income would represent 15 percent of the share of the residual profits from large multinational companies that are reallocated to EU member states, under the OECD deal for global taxation reached by 136 countries in October.

Large corporations with revenue exceeding 750 million euros ($847 million) under the deal have until 2023 to agree to pay the minimum tax rate regardless of their operations base.
The commission’s proposal wants to adopt the OECD framework into the EU laws as soon as possible in 2022 before a global deadline in 2023.

European Union Commission President is Ursula von der Leyen has pushed for similar ‘green taxes’ in the past for different reasons (e.g. Ursula vonder Leyen puts forth ‘European Green Deal;’ Could she be the prophesied ‘raiser of taxes’?).
Could Ursula von der Leyen and her proposed raising of taxes possibly have been prophesied?
In Daniel 11:21, referring in original, typical fulfillment to Antiochus Epiphanes, there shall stand up a vile person … So once again before the second coming of Christ, a vile leader will stop the daily sacrifices being offered … This same prophecy spoken by Jesus is also reported by Luke…21:20-24 (Armstrong HW. Personal, Plain Truth magazine, June 1967).
20 “There shall arise in his place one who imposes taxes on the glorious kingdom; but within a few days he shall be destroyed, but not in anger or in battle. 21 And in his place shall arise a vile person, … (Daniel 11:20-21a)
The “vile person” is the final King of the North (who is also the final Beast of the Sea of Revelation 13:1-10).
Presuming that this the Hebrew allows for a woman to hold this role, is it possible that Ursula vonder Leyen could fulfill that?
If her commission’s proposal does raise a lot of taxes and then is gone or dies soon, notice what happens shortly thereafter:
21 And in his place shall arise a vile person, to whom they will not give the honor of royalty; but he shall come in peaceably, and seize the kingdom by intrigue. 22 With the force of a flood they shall be swept away from before him and be broken, and also the prince of the covenant. 23 And after the league is made with him he shall act deceitfully, for he shall come up and become strong with a small number of people. 24 He shall enter peaceably, even into the richest places of the province; and he shall do what his fathers have not done, nor his forefathers: he shall disperse among them the plunder, spoil, and riches; and he shall devise his plans against the strongholds, but only for a time. (Daniel 11:21-24)
Time is getting short (see Does God Have a 6,000 Year Plan? What Year Does the 6,000 Years End?). And if various taxes are raised in Europe, this may signal how close we may be to the rising up of the final King of the North, and also the Antichrist.
Now, there was a type of fulfillment of Daniel 11:20 thousands of years ago:
Verse 19 — Antiochus next turned his attention to the fortresses of his own land, in the east and west. But, attempting to recruit his dissipated wealth by the plunder of the Oriental Temple of Belus, in Elymais, he was killed, 187 B.C.
Verse 20 — Seleucus IV Philopator (187-176), his son, in an effort to raise money, sent a tax collector, Heliodorus, through Judea. But he reigned only 11 years, when Heliodorus poisoned him.
Verse 21 — he left no heir. But his brother, a younger son of Antiochus the Great, named Epiphanes (Antiochus IV), a contemptible reprobate, came by surprise and through flattery took the kingdom. (Armstrong HW. The Middle East in Prophecy. Worldwide Church of God, 1972)
But since many prophecies in Daniel 11 are actually for the “appointed time” (Daniel 11:27,29,35) of “the end” (Daniel 11:27,35,40) as the chapter shows, they still have future fulfillment.
Unless something changes, Ursula von der Leyen is supposed to be in office for five years. Seleucus IV Philopator lasted 11 years.
Because of the prophesied death of the raiser of taxes and the quick rise thereafter by the final King of the North, if Ursula von der Leyen is this individual, it would take time to see if she might be. Particularly since the taxes she has proposed have not become law nor, of course, collected.
