European Parliament Approves Post-Brexit Trade Deal With Britain

The European Parliament announced on Wednesday that EU lawmakers had voted overwhelmingly in favor of the agreement with Britain on post-Brexit trade arrangements.

EU lawmakers approved the EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement by 660 votes to five, with 32 abstentions.

The vote cleared the last hurdle towards the full ratification of the agreement, and marks the end of more than four years of negotiations that began after the UK decided to leave the European Union in a referendum in June 2016.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen also welcomed the result, saying the Brexit deal “marks the foundation of a strong and close partnership with the UK.”

But she emphasized that “faithful implementation is essential.” … von der Leyen said: “This agreement on paper is only as good as implementation and enforcement in practice. And I share the concerns you have on unilateral actions taken by the United Kingdom since the agreement came into provisional application.”

But she said the Brexit deal “comes with real teeth, with a binding dispute settlement mechanism and the possibility for unilateral, remedial measures where necessary.”

Leading Belgian MEP Guy Verhofstadt tweeted on Wednesday morning that the European Parliament had approved “the EU-UK trade and cooperation agreement!””The first trade deal in history to put up barriers & remove freedoms? Trade between the two sides has plummeted since the break came into effect on January 1, with EU imports from the UK down almost 50% and exports to the UK down 20% during the first two months.

The EU also launched a legal dispute against the UK after Westminster unilaterally extended a grace period for not conducting checks on goods being transported between Northern Ireland and the rest of the UK.

Three points.

1) The deal is complicated, and will result in trade and other friction between the UK and Europe in the future. Not all matters have truly been resolved by the agreement. That makes the reality that aspects will be unworkable.

2) Notice what European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen tweeted:

Yes, the Bible supports the view, that for a time, the economic (and military) power of the future will be in Europe (cf. Revelation chapters 13, 17, and 18). Look also for the Europeans to make trade deals with China and other parts of the world.

3) The UK will be officially separate from the EU.

Now, with the latest deal, note that some in the EU are concerned that the UK may NOT implement the deal the way the EU wants.

There will be trade friction between the EU and the UK.

As far as the departure of the UK from the EU goes, Church of God writers predicted Brexit decades before the Brexit vote. Including myself about 30 years ago, and Raymond McNair over 50 years ago.

Bible prophecy clearly shows that Britain will not be one of the … NATIONS comprising the final United States of Europe (McNair R. A Strong United Europe. Tomorrow’s World, February 1970, p. 17).

the soon-coming resurrected “Holy Roman Empire” – a sort of soon-coming “United States of Europe” – a union of ten nations to rise up out of or following the Common Market of today. Perhaps it should be mentioned that the general position within the Churches of God is that Britain will not remain in the EU and will pull out at some point. (Thiel B. It should be understood that ultimately, Britain will NOT thrive as part of the EU but will be taken over by the final European Beast power–yet its former Prime Minister is promoting something that will not help the peoples of the UK. Ephraim (modern Great Britain) will not be part of the “Beast” power, so we can expect some significant change that will push the British out of the EU. (Davis. D. Ireland says “No!” to EU power grab. Commentary, July, 1 2008)

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland will not be an equal part of the European Union. Britain will either pull out or be forced out or at least truly lose its sovereignty. Many of the Anglo-peoples of the UK, USA, etc. that are not killed will to be scattered and many will be made slaves (Will the Anglo-Nations be Divided and Have People Taken as Slaves?). That is what the Bible shows will happen during the Great Tribulation.

As far as this “Beast King” goes, he could possibly be the next EU president, but a restructure ultimately will be needed in Europe for the King of the North to have the type of power that the Bible indicate he will have (Revelation 17:12-13). The EU is not ready for that yet.

However, Tony Blair’s statements today are pointing to one more step towards certain biblical prophesies being fulfilled as he is realizing that the UK wants to pull out of the UK–and that is something will happen (directly or indirectly).

The final King of the North (Daniel 11:27-40) will take over the UK, USA, and their Anglo-allies according to Bible prophecy (cf. Daniel 11:39). While more people in the UK are starting to realize that the EU poses dangers to it, most have no idea how dangerous the rising Beast power in Europe will become (cf. Revelation 13:1-4; Daniel 11:39). Britain will ultimately NOT thrive as part of the EU but will be taken over by the final European Beast power. (Thiel B. Back in the early 1990s, when I was vice president of an irrigation equipment manufacturer, I told our British sales representative, who was visiting the factory in California, that one day the UK would separate from Europe. He flat out told me that could not possibly happen. And he gave reasons, but they were not biblical ones–I told him he was in error. The British exit from the European Union shows that he, who was not part of the Church of God, was in error.

What happened with Brexit is consistent with what Church of God writers have predicted based on our knowledge of the Bible, its prophecies, and aspects of world history.

I warned that “Brexit will cause some economic harm to both the UK and the EU.”

The latest trade numbers are consistent with that.

Furthermore, as regular readers of this COGwriter Church of God News page are aware, for over a decade I have stated that the UK would get closer to the USA on trade and farther away from the EU (watch, for example, Trade Disputes: CCOG Warnings Are Coming to Pass and/or Trade Wars: Are COG warnings coming to pass?).

That being said, ultimately Brexit will be a disaster for the UK and even the USA.

The Bible shows that Europe will dominate world trade (Revelation 18) and also become a military power that will shock the world (Revelation 13:1-4).

The Bible also shows that the USA (Daniel 11:39) and UK (Daniel 8:24-25) will be taken over by a German-dominated Europe (Isaiah 10:5-11; see also Germany in Biblical and Catholic Prophecy).

Do not think that this latest Brexit deal will change that.

Actually, it has features that will help lead to that.
